Obama Writes Op-Ed With Friends Promising Never To End Libya War

by Jack Stuef

Oh this is cute! Barack Obama got together with his friends David Cameron and Nicolas Sarkozy at the war treehouse, pulled out some construction paper, and wrote an op-ed together in blood-colored crayon.

so long as Qaddafi is in power, NATO must maintain its operations so that civilians remain protected and the pressure on the regime builds. Then a genuine transition from dictatorship to an inclusive constitutional process can really begin, led by a new generation of leaders. In order for that transition to succeed, Qaddafi must go and go for good.

Gaddafi may think he can just wait this out, but he underestimates America’s love of protracted, never-ending wars. Yes, now that we’ve admitted our goal is to get him out of power, we could take him out with our troops and weapons very quickly. But what would be the fun in that? A good war is meant to be savored. Wonder what color crayon Sarah Palin will use when she Tweets her rebuttal?

$exy$murf April 15, 2011 at 11:44 am

A blood libel-colored crayon?

Lionel[redacted]Esq April 15, 2011 at 2:41 pm

Just be happy: We have found a war against the Browns that Palin is against.

Adorable. All that's needed is Dionne and Gladys taking turns crooning while Stevie & Elton take turns tickling the ivories. You're welcome, Libya! Feel-good partnership — that's what allies are for!!

Maybe he thinks we're about to bankrupt ourselves with our stupid plutocrat/war-friendly policies, and he'll be like Afghanistan after the British/Soviets/ourselves? finally give up the ghost.

P.S. Totally unrelated on topic: If you have not yet gotten around to downfisting this loser, please take full advantage.

That's an epic downfist score he has – negative 237.

Buckminster April 15, 2011 at 5:21 pm

And going more negative as we speak.

Reminds me of the time the Little Rascals had their "He-Man Ghaddafi-Haters Club" meeting. I believe that episode ended with Buckwheat getting volunteered to take care of the problem while Spanky and Alfalfa took turns snorting blow off of Darla's belly.

What part of "regime change" don't these assholes get? Viva la 2003!

Badonkadonkette April 15, 2011 at 11:47 am

If Obama really wanted to channel Reagan, he'd just blow up Gaddafi's daughter with a poorly aimed bomb and call it a day.

harry_palmer April 15, 2011 at 11:47 am

Just when you thought the NYT could sink no lower than Ross Douchehat, Jayson Blair and Judith Miller, they up the ante.

GuyClinch April 15, 2011 at 11:49 am

Ghaddafi is an eminently reasonable person; no doubt this op-ed will convince him to resign and hand himself over to the ICC so that we can all cease military operations. Also, I think Donald Trump would make a fantastic president.

SorosBot April 15, 2011 at 11:51 am

Nice of Obama to place his op-ed in a paper the majority of people can't read anymore because it's run by morons who don't understand the internet.

Check out FreeNYT on Twitter–things are a bit jumbled but they have most of the NYT articles. Freedom! USA!

MildMidwesterner April 15, 2011 at 11:54 am

The French will be instramental in demonstrating to the Libyans the techniques for a proper surrender.

SayItWithWookies April 15, 2011 at 11:56 am

Oil-colored people everywhere yearn for freedom — and as long as America has H2s, we aim to give it to them.

proudgrampa April 15, 2011 at 12:11 pm

Jesus. That is definitely a promise to drag this thing out forever. We are freakin' doomed.

Hatrabbit April 15, 2011 at 12:14 pm

Even Reagan wasn't that fucking dumb.

Hatrabbit April 15, 2011 at 12:17 pm

War is peace, and all.

Watch out Finland, you're next you genial motherfuckers.

hagajim April 15, 2011 at 12:53 pm

Could we just nuke the entire middle east into a parkling lot and be done with it – please!

Lionel[redacted]Esq April 15, 2011 at 2:43 pm

Everyone stop their whining. Can you imagine how many wars we would be in right now if John McCain was elected? Hell, if Hillary was elected?

pinkocommi April 15, 2011 at 2:58 pm

Kim Jong-il must be really happy his country does not have any oil right about now.

KenLayIsAlive April 15, 2011 at 8:28 pm

But his people would probably be happy if it had some rice.

BZ1 April 15, 2011 at 3:48 pm

Qaddafi is going to read op-eds?

WinterOuthouse April 15, 2011 at 5:38 pm

"A good war is meant to savored" just like an excellent wine or great sex or spaghetti.

ttommyunger April 15, 2011 at 6:26 pm

And when Gaddafy is gone, at the ripe old age of 87, we'll just be putting the finishing touches on our new Embassy in Tripoli which will easily eclipse the dinky little one we built in Iraq, complete with showers and ovens.

KenLayIsAlive April 15, 2011 at 8:29 pm

Showers and ovens. Well, a clean, well-fed people is essential to the democracy we will bring them.

Er, oh, I see what you're saying.

ttommyunger April 15, 2011 at 8:43 pm

Yup!

fxgeorges April 16, 2011 at 11:19 pm

Wow. Libya bookmark.

Low-e window film is a low-cost alternative to window replacement to transform existing poorly-insulating windows into energy-efficient windows.

For high-rise buildings, smart glass can be used as an alternative.
