Haha, CBO Says That Budget Deal Actually Increases Spending

by Jack Stuef

Crying a river.John Boehner’s tear-soaked budget deal was said to make $38 billion in cuts and SAVED US FROM SHUTDOWN (not that anyone in America who’s not paid by the federal government cared), but it turns out, according to the Congressional Budget Office, that number’s far off. This year, the CBO says those budget maneuvers will only amount to a $352 million cut in non-war spending. “But wait,” you say, “America is in a bunch of wars right now! That must have an impact on spending!” You’re right. When you include war funding, this budget increases spending by $3.3 billion in relation to current levels. Whoops! Time for that Teabagger insurrection!

Republicans promise that when fully implemented and repeated year after year, the cuts in the measure would reduce the deficit by $315 billion over the coming decade.

Yes, “fully implemented and repeated year after year.” Not like politics could ever get in the way of that. Little publicity-garnering gimmicks like these are always kept around year after year.

The House and Senate still have to pass this thing, and members of Congress from both parties are yammering about not supporting it. After all, that shutdown seemed kind of fun. It was all so anticlimactic. And if they don’t have this to argue about, it becomes pretty obvious they’re not passing much of any legislation these days at all.

But is Obama secretly winning? According to the CBO, is winning all over your FACE, naysayers. [AP]

Trying times like these call for the power of poetry. I present …

"Ode To The Incandescent Boner"

Weep no more, John Boehner,
You pudgy, flaccid prick.
Your tanning booth flourescence
Will soon rise, full and thick.
That glowing orange tumescence
Will pound away, sans lube,
You'll hump your favorite Rent Boy
We'll catch it on YouTube.

The real bottom line: we are all totally fucked until we get Wall Street out of the Oval Office, SCOTUS and Congress. So, in summary: we are all totally fucked.

They didn't work the last half dozen times, so that means we need to cut those taxes even harder.

That would be funny, other than it is probably exactly what will happen.

anti0aquabudda April 15, 2011 at 10:28 am

No, we will make it so 75% of the population pays zero federal income taxes instead of the meager 50% that currently doesn't pay.

So, why don't we eat the rich? Fat is flavor and Dumb is delicious. Whaley Barbour and Donald Rump alone ought to feed about 25 families for a year, properly butchered and prepared. And some deserving poor person can have their jobs, provided they actually do anything.

Problem solved! Dibs on the spleens!

My, next thing you know the CBO will report that it's not really possible to eliminate the deficit without either touching military spending or raising taxes, and that water is wet and the sky is blue.

Oblios_Cap April 14, 2011 at 11:11 am

“But wait,” you say, “America is in a bunch of wars right now! That must have an impact on spending!” You’re right. When you include war funding, this budget increases spending by $3.3 billion in relation to current levels.

CalamityJames April 14, 2011 at 12:39 pm

OT, this reminds me of an actual comment I coaxed out of some self-denying t-tard. He seems to believe that Obummer is hiding his birf stificut because it shows that his father is Malcom X, cause, you know, they look alike.

Now, back on topic, most "Real Americans" think the CBO should just go back to Atlanta and study diseases.

If we raise the upper rate from 35% to 39% like Obama suggests, the deficit this year will drop from 1.6 Trillion to 1.45 Trillion. So what else do you suggest to balance the budget?

Even if you confiscate all of the income from the top 2% of this country, we would STILL have a deficit. We have a spending problem people!!!!

chicken_thief April 14, 2011 at 11:44 am

Is the CBO somehow under the impression that Republicans give a fuck about their estimates?!

JustPixelz April 14, 2011 at 11:48 am

I'm always stunned by the minimalist artistry of the Repubicans, where less is more. And not only in terms of money. Look at their reductions to the size and scope of government. It's almost ovary-sized, yet ubiquitous.

WinterOuthouse April 14, 2011 at 11:48 am

Leave it the Boner to screw the nation.

4TheTurnstiles April 14, 2011 at 11:52 am

It's counterintuitive, but I'm proud of Barry on this one simply because he just divided the Tea Party from the GOP with this move. (Leave it to the egghead to do his homework first…) Now all this Big Bad Spending is hanging on Boner's neck like a "KICK ME" sign. If they could get to the streets, the Baggers would be in the streets screaming for blood. It's a recipe for a third-party wingnut divide-the-right situation, and hence it's strategically brilliant.

Too bad about the casualties and collateral damage…

BlueMonkeh April 14, 2011 at 11:57 am

yeah…it kind of explains why he was letting the Boner take most of the credit (at least i hope that's it….)

Callyson April 14, 2011 at 12:17 pm

It's a recipe for a third-party wingnut divide-the-right situation, and hence it's strategically brilliant.
So, I should root for The Donald after all. Got it. I just hope he makes Orly Taitz his press secretary, to make O's triumph complete…

imissopus April 14, 2011 at 3:00 pm

Yeah, I have mixed feelings. On the one hand we got sold a bill of goods about responsible financial governance yet again and some people who did not deserve a screwing got screwed. On the other hand Barry just told Boehner "You want to tolerate and even embrace the Tea Party and their infantile, unrealistic whiny bullshit? Fine, now you own it. Good luck with that."

Plus the collateral damage could have been worse, but Barry did get a few things out from under the hammer. Which is yet another object lesson for all of us to not freak out and assume the worst simply because someone said a particular number.

hooray4anything April 14, 2011 at 3:07 pm

Yeah, the only one's with more orange tan on their face is all the people once again all the libtards for doing their usual angsty emo routine over the budget deal. The damage still sucks but could be worse and now Boehner has to go face a pack of angry Teatard wolves out for blood. That should be one fun meeting he'll have

imissopus April 14, 2011 at 3:21 pm

Hendrik Hertzberg has a response over at the New Yorker today that pretty much captures how I feel about Barry. The gist of it is that plenty of us libs like Obama and appreciate the substantive accomplishments he's gotten in the face of tremendous opposition, even if we don't always agree with some of his decisions, but we can't figure out why he doesn't more often explain his moral vision and contrast it with the Republicans.

The upshot for me is that I think Barry essentially has a liberal worldview; he just has his own way of going about achieving it. It's not bare-knuckled so it's not always emotionally satisfying, but he's not selling us down the river either.

hooray4anything April 14, 2011 at 8:16 pm

I agree too. For a guy who ran such a smart campaign and is such a great, intelligent speaker, I can't figure out why the Administration just completely sucks at messaging. Like so bad they suck at sucking and excel in lameness.

backbaconzgood April 14, 2011 at 11:53 am

It's a budgetary "slam dunk".

BarackMyWorld April 14, 2011 at 11:54 am

Paul Ryan was on Fox News a little while ago having an unedited hissy fit because the president's budget speech yesterday was a speech instead of a plan.

I think Ryan was expecting Obama to open his mouth and numbers, tables, and graphs would come pouring out like a vomited powerpoint.

4TheTurnstiles April 14, 2011 at 12:03 pm

This kind of "Why don't you love me more, Barry?" material usually comes from a certain scorned Northerly figure. What's her name again?

Anyway it seems like Republicans are resentful old closet cases who have long memories and short dicks. (with apologies to Kurt Vonnegut.)

imissopus April 14, 2011 at 3:03 pm

Don't know if that was a new hissy or tape of the one he had immediately afterwards yesterday when he complained about being invited to the speech and then having to sit there while Barry gave his opinion of Ryan's plan. That was fun to watch. Poor Paul, so butthurt.

DahBoner April 14, 2011 at 12:09 pm

That's right: the main purpose of the GOP budget is to cut services to poor & middle class and then give the money to the Rich as "tax cuts".

# WHY ARE POOR PEOPLE SO GREEDY?

Gopherit April 14, 2011 at 1:27 pm

As long as the rich got their tax cut, that's the important thing. The economy will be purring like a kitten just as soon as they start throwing their scraps down to us.

anti0aquabudda April 14, 2011 at 4:59 pm

We have no bread because 50% of the population pays nearly zero in federal income taxes.

So in essence, our government is giving free bread away to 50% of the population. Why should people make their own bread when the government gives it away to anyone with a pulse.

CookiE_MonstA April 14, 2011 at 7:08 pm

Well, you can't tax the income of the unemployed. Of course, they still manage to pay sales tax, gas tax, carpet tacks… Or did you mean the 50% that pay no Corporate Tax?

anti0aquabudda April 14, 2011 at 7:21 pm

So 50% of the population is unemployed? You do realize that 50% of the population is nearly zero in federal income taxes, don't you? Yes, they pay social security and medicare taxes, state taxes, gas taxes, etc, but they pay almost zero in federal income taxes, which funds most of our government.

With regards to corporations, I own a limited liability coorporation (LLC), whatever money the company makes as profit is included on my personal tax return. My company doesn't pay the taxes, but I do. I just had to write a 25k check for my federal taxes last year.

CookiE_MonstA April 14, 2011 at 8:41 pm

You honestly expect someone who makes less than 25k annually to pay income taxes on top of all the other taxes they pay? You're an asshole.

anti0aquabudda April 15, 2011 at 10:25 am

Typical liberal trick: bring emotion to the table, shun facts, and then throw out insults.

First, someone that makes 25k annually is in the lowest federal tax bracket. With deductions and earned income tax credits, they not only pay zero federal income taxes, but I can almost guarantee that they will get a check back from the government for more than they paid. They will also quailify for food stamps, wic programs if they have kids, and medicaid. So in essence, our government is helping them out with nearly everything. I honestly believe that we should help people in need, but for how long? Two years, until they get on their feet, for their entire life?

Now, the question is given the fact that OUR government is 14 Trillion in debt and running a 1.6 Trillion dollar deficit this year alone, can we continue to give out so much money? That is the principal question. Can we afford to allow people to be essentially lifetime welfare recipients? If we are going to do that, we need to cut spending elsewhere. Raising taxes on the "rich" to 39% as Obama proposes, will only bring in another 100 Billion per year and alone, will not even come close to balancing the budget.

CookiE_MonstA April 14, 2011 at 8:52 pm

Oh, and for the record; "For 2009 Social Security had 150,917,733 wage earners." Out of a population of about 300,000,000. WOW that's about 50% of American not working.

anti0aquabudda April 15, 2011 at 10:17 am

That includes children and retired people you doofus!!! I didn't think we considered chldrend as "wage earners". Nice try, but you fail!!!

A Nation of Congressmen Left Behind.

tessiee April 14, 2011 at 9:26 pm

Wolves too?

Sue4466 April 15, 2011 at 7:55 am

Yes. There's a provision in the authorization to strip the grey wolf of protected species status. This is a big deal because it's the first time Congress is delisting a species rather than the EPA, setting a pretty dangerous precedent. This puts about 1500 wolves at risk.

Negropolis April 15, 2011 at 12:24 am

So, we cut off things like high-speed rail so that we could immediately increase spending? So, we're increasing spending in the short-term, and having even less to show for it than if we were to invest it in something on the ground?

You know, I feel bad because we have to suffer, too, but I'm just so happy to see the tea party used and abused. If I can't get anything tangible out of this budget, the least I can do is find pleasure in their pain.

CookiE_MonstA April 15, 2011 at 2:06 pm

Yes, I actually do. I have presented my own research based on data from IRS publications. Your argument implies that you believe that no one needs a hand out or certainly do not deserve one because we can not afford to had out anything. I disagree with those priorities in regard to our tax policy.

If people at poverty do not get assistance because we can not afford it, you ARE stating that you do not care what happens to anyone who NEEDS this assistance, whether they die or just suffer is of no concern. The debt is more important to you than their suffering. I have no basis for thinking you heartless other than the very words you have typed. If this is the wrong conclusion, then blame yourself for giving me the basis from which to draw that conclusion.

The fact that Liberals often have similar opinions comes not from talking points. There is no central Liberal authority that we look to. There are other ways to balance a budget without puling the net out from under the poorer of us.

There is no question that millions of people need help, but how many of them could get a job but chose not to? How many of them have learned that the government will support their lazy lifestyle? Unfortunatly, millions!! I have seen too many examples around me where people choose to not look for a job. I have seen people that milk the system and suck from the rest of the tax payers. This has to stop!!

CookiE_MonstA April 15, 2011 at 7:31 pm

You keep heaping derision on these poor people, calling them lazy and acting as if they can just demand that someone employ them. I do not believe you have ever been poor. If you have you either forgot what that is like or never learned the hard lessons of those times. You're right, this has to stop. I'm done. You're an asshole.

CookiE_MonstA April 18, 2011 at 4:39 pm

Yes, you are. I'm glad you can accept that. The government TIT, had plenty for everyone until we pissed it away on Empire building over the past 10 years. Your opinions seem more informed by the antipathy you harbor for your in laws than by actual facts or statistics. Did it ever occur to you that your limited personal experience may not extrapolate into a global truth?

anti0aquabudda April 18, 2011 at 5:15 pm

I thought you were done. Just can't help the need to get the last word in?

Did it ever occur to you that the current welfare system definately helps millions of people in need, but also enables some people to be lazy and live off the tax payers?

with regards to my "experience", I have traveled all over this country, lived in several states, and even lived in other countries. I think you are the one that is sheltered.

I truly wish that there weren't so many people that abused the system (including the rich), which is why this country needs so much tax and welfare reform.

CookiE_MonstA April 15, 2011 at 10:31 am

Exactly! That's where your silly figure of 50% are not paying taxes comes from, pure wing nut math. One need only consult the IRS tax tables to see that anyone with a taxable income pays income tax. After a standard deduction of $9,350, all the income you make beyond that is taxable. A single person who made $12 an hour grossed $24960 and paid $1,925 in taxes.

Do the Math before you go off, here's the reference document for ya;

Yes, I prefer to have a heart than to be heartless.

The best way to reduce the deficit and debt is to cut the biggest unfunded expenditures. SSI and Medicare have their own taxes and are mostly self funded. The DoD is not. Cutting defense spending and ending all military action, currently paid for with borrowed money. The vast majority of Foreign Aid is spent by our military policing the world and subsidizing the defense of our allies.

CookiE_MonstA April 15, 2011 at 10:39 am

The check that people get back is called a REFUND because withholding takes out more over the course of the year than the actual tax owed.

anti0aquabudda April 15, 2011 at 10:52 am

The wars at the peak were costing us about 300 Billion per year. Ending those still won't even come close to balancing the budget.

So you would be fine with people being lifetime welfare recepients? Look, my wife and I give a lot to charity and try to help others in need. We also do it anonymously. But if I give to one person each month and make it so they don't need to find a job, am I really helping them or enabling them to stay at home and life off of me? Again, I believe in government welfare, but we need a system which helps people get back on their feet, not one that enables people to live off the government their entire lives which the current system enables!

Are you familair with earned income tax credits? Do some research and come back to the forum because you are making yourself look foolish.

anti0aquabudda April 15, 2011 at 11:03 am

You are correct that a person making $24,960 should pay $1,925 in taxes. Now, with even modest deductions, that person will most likely get a refund for all of the taxes paid.

With earned income tax credits (if they qualify), that person could get as much as an additional $4,000 back from the government. So that person would make $28,960 for that year. So in essence that person will pay zero in federal income taxes and will be part of the nearly 50% of employed Americans that pay ZERO in federal income taxes.

CookiE_MonstA April 15, 2011 at 11:27 am

Quite familiar, I got one for each of my kids and another for the new windows I bought. However, I still paid in more than I got back. You ought to talk to a tax accountant, like my wife.

CookiE_MonstA April 15, 2011 at 11:32 am

If charity were sufficient to end hunger and poverty, it would have done so long ago. The people who you suspect of being life long welfare recipients are essentially unemployable. Where can anyone go get a job just because they want one? Where do you go when you want a job to DEMAND that someone hire you? I have lived in poverty. I have been homeless. It's NOT the couch ride of leisure you think it is. These people are not lazy, some of them don't see the point of making $500 a month from welfare or $500 a month at Walmart. If no one will give them a job, what do you suggest they do? Die quickly so they don't sponge off your precious tax money?

CookiE_MonstA April 15, 2011 at 11:47 am

So, you think that a person making less than $25k getting a $4,000 tax credit is unfair? Sorry, gotta bring emotion back into the discussion. That is pure bullshit, self centered heartless bullshit. Are you aware the poverty level in this country is 23k and a two income family making minimum wage only earns $30,160? You think these folks aren't paying their fair share? These people can barely make ends meet and you're asking them to pay more so that you pay less. You need to get a clue about where the surplus lies and with whom.

anti0aquabudda April 15, 2011 at 12:56 pm

I just met with my accountant this morning. Because of deductions and earned income tax credits, about 50% of the population pays zero in federal taxes. That is a fact.

Now, I am in the same boat as you. I have kids but still pay taxes because we earn a good living. But last year, I watched my brother in law who is 35 go back to school. He has 4 kids and becuase of earned income tax credits and because he only worked part time and made around 35k, he not only got all his federal income taxes back, he got an additional $5,000 due to earned income taxes. He was shocked that the government gave away free money like that. He also qualified for food stamps, wic, and all kids of grants to go back to school. FREE MONEY is AWESOME!!!

anti0aquabudda April 15, 2011 at 1:08 pm

Did I say it was unfair? I really don't mind the fact that people making little, pay very little. I am even fine with that person paying ZERO. But to actually get money back that you didn't pay to begin with is not right. We cannot continue to give out money to everyone in this country. We have a $14 Trillion dollar debt and will put an additional 1.6 Trillion onto it again this year.

Second, I am not saying I should pay less. Show me where I said that!! I am fine paying my fair share. I also think tax loopes and deductions should be limited to the "rich" in this country. As a country, we are giving money to nearly everyone: corporations, other countries, the rich through bailouts, etc. We need to revamp the system and quit giving away some much money to EVERYONE!!!

CookiE_MonstA April 15, 2011 at 1:21 pm

Fair enough. Personally, I'd accept paying more in taxes and leaving the poor to collect what they are collecting. I think they need it. Back in the last century, we had a tax surplus. Now we don't, because of wars on credit and tax cuts to people who didn't need them. Reaganomics created no jobs. You have your delusions, I have mine. I've had enough of teaching pigs to dance.

CookiE_MonstA April 15, 2011 at 2:12 pm

*Sigh* According to the IRS, the EIC is only for people making less than $18,470, in your brother in the law's case. So he didn't qualify for that. He got $4000 for his 4 kids. I'd have to see his return to figure out where the other $1000 came form but, since he worked part time, it's probably his refund making up the remainder.

The great thing is, all of that money will be taken back when he gets a better job and pays more in taxes, assuming he can demand someone hire him. His kids will pay back the credit that Dad got once they start paying taxes as the single filer rate. It's not really free money, it's all calculated and INVESTED in our people.

anti0aquabudda April 15, 2011 at 6:54 pm

*Sigh* – I emailed my accountant and asked him about EIC. This was his exact response

"Earned income credits are for low income people normally with dependents. The maximum income you can have is around 45k, so most people are phased out and don't get them."
