80-Year-Old 'Pentagon Papers' Hero Arrested At White House For Protesting U.S Torture of Bradley Manning

While your country was starting another war and also still losing twootherwars and also ignoring some of our closer Arab Dictatorship Allies as they massacredtheirown people, 80-year-old Daniel Ellsberg peacefully protested outside the White House on the eighth (!) anniversary of America's occupation of Iraq. And he was handcuffed and hauled away by the federal police, because why not? All he ever did was expose the lies of several U.S. administrations regardinganotherbloody lost cause (our war against the Vietnamese). Back then, of course, the president specifically ordered Ellsberg's assassination -- and then, on second or third paranoid/drunken thought, decided to just expose Ellsberg as acrazy person, by ordering the White House burglary of Ellsberg's psychiatrist's office. Good times! Anyway, these days it's easier for a war president to just ignoreeverybodyand give bland assurances that our various torture operations against citizens and foreigners are all totally cool, above-board and just what we need for Winning the Future:

Eighty year-old Daniel Ellsberg was arrested on Saturday in front of the White House when he refused to leave at the request of police. He was one of 113 people who were arrested, handcuffed and taken to the police station on March 19, 2011 for protesting President Obama’s continued torture of Bradley Manning.

President Obama has voiced his firm support for Barnes’ actions. At a recent press conference, he said he personally asked the Pentagon if the conditions of Manning’s confinement were appropriate. “They assure me that they are,” said the President. Obama echoed Barnes’ justification for stripping Manning naked each night when he said “some of this has to do with Private Manning’s safety.”

Obama also recently forced State Department spokesman PJ Crowley to resign after he said that Manning’s treatment was “ridiculous,” “counterproductive” and “stupid.”
