Just don't hurt their feelings by calling them racist, mmkay? The swirling toilet of American Public Life gained another floater this morning as NPR announced the immediate resignation of CEO Vivian Schiller — no relation to NPR executive Ron Schiller, who was secretly videotaped giving an accurate description of the Tea Party people and already left NPR. Again, this is because Ron Schiller said the Tea Party people are scary racists. (Tea Party people are scary racists.) If you’re getting a Shirley Sherrod deja vu thing about now, prepare to have this feeling every couple of weeks for the rest of your life (or, until you leave this dumb country forever), because this is America in 2011: a crumbling nation of fat slobs who ignore their kleptocrat kings and instead point their corn-dog fingers at Scary Mooslims and the “Kenyan president” and then get their little racist feelings hurt when anybody says, “Hey, look at those racist clowns.”

Stop calling them racist! That's a liberal thing, to call them that!NPR is a dull yuppie news network primarily funded by the industrial food and chemical conglomerates that keep the Tea Party people so plump and diabetic, so of course NPR is catering not to its listeners (liberal yuppies who ignore the Archer Daniels Midland sponsorship messages that bookend basically every NPR program) in this situation, but to Tea Party people and their cynical performers in the House of Representatives. Tea Party people don’t listen to NPR news, obviously.

If you don't stop calling Teabaggers racist, you'll be fired from your liberal job!Let us once again consider the quote from the NPR exec — Ron Schiller, not the Vivian Schiller CEO person who has now also resigned — and see why a liberal news-radio executive should not say such things:

At one point, he said Tea Partiers were “xenophobic, I mean basically they are; they believe in sort of white, middle-America gun-toting. I mean, it’s scary. They’re seriously racist, racist people.”

Hmm, well that’s completely true, so obviously someone who works for the political opposite should never say such a thing, especially in supposed private conversation.

Okay you guys if you don't stop calling the teabaggers racist RIGHT NOW then it will be time to impeach Obama, for being black. And this has been another chapter of American Liberals. Whether it’s Barack Obama or the head of NPR, an American Liberal can always be counted on to immediately freak out when somebody says something undeniably true that also sounds vaguely liberal. And then, the American Liberal can go back to the real priority, which is fellating corporate sponsors and hiring enough conservatives to provide the required 60%-right/40%-moderate “balance” and encouraging sound Democrat principles such as extending the Bush tax cuts and continuing endless failed wars against Muslims everywhere because that’s Good For America. Obama, if loving you is wrong, I don't wanna be white.

    • BarackMyWorld

Ma'am, I have it on good authority that the only racism left in America is reverse-racism youbetcha donchaknow.

      • V572625694

Colin Powell, Barack Obama, racism over. What part don't you get? Just like Benazir Bhutto ended discrimination against women in Pakistan, which now it looks like a giant Lilith Fair from Lahore to Karachi.

  • mereoblivion

At least NPR's finally gettin' with the pogrom.

  • BarackMyWorld

To be fair, I'm sure there are probably 5 or 6 Teabaggers who aren't racist (somewhere).

    • Texan_Bulldog

No, there aren't…sorry to disillusion you.

    • widestanceroman

      Those are called, 'fetuses.'

    • JoeBiteme

The 5 or 6 black people they've conned into the (bowel) "movement" don't really count…

    • Urban_Achiever

Some of my best friends are Teabaggers…..oh wait

  • baconzgood

Screw NPR. They guilted me out of two-hundred smackers one pleadge drive then turned around the next week and replaced Ken Nordine's Word Jazz with Sounds of India. And don't get me started on those Splendid Table recipes.

"Ask Dr. Science" = Tea Party Einstein

And O'Keefe orgasms as he makes another person lose their job. These evil, racist people just love causing actual suffering. Oh, thanks a lot to the judge who gave this creep probation for his little break-in of Sen. Landrieu's office! One of these days one of stunts should lead to him finally going to jail where he belongs.

Ken, your ranting is in rare form today. Bravo.

Has Ginny Thomas called NPR and demanded an apology yet?

    • Not_So_Much

Naw, too busy tending to Clarence's velvet-covered marble needs.

    • Well, it isn't 7:00 AM on a Saturday, so her bender hasn't begun yet.

  • BaldarTFlagass

Can I still listen to Click and Clack?

    • genxr

They have a deep-seated hatred of American cars. I once heard them recommend that a lady in Vermont by a socialist Volvo!

      • DustBowlBlues

No, no, no. You're confused, yet again. Buying American cars made by UAW members is the pinko thing to do. If you love America, you'll buy foreign cars.

Anyone remember when the sister–Lindsay– on Arrested Development made a copy of her new Volvo on the copier at the office party and showed it to Michael and he said, "This isn't a VolVO."

        Best comedy show ever.

    • If you dare!

The Outhouse Underground reports that the Teabagger Secret Police, James O'Keefe and hiz 3 closest dweebs, are tapping the Tappet Bros. Can't you hear how noisy those lifters are with all that tea on the camshaft lobes?

    • WhatTheHeck

Sure. But it will now be called “Click n’ Clack, the Koch Brothers.”

      • BaldarTFlagass

With a new law firm representing them? "Dewey, Fuckem, and Howe?"

    • MistaEko

Thankfully, yes. O'Keefe tried to get them to say something incriminating but all they did was laugh uncontrollably.

  • GuyClinch

All Things Ill-Considered. Well, there's always Pacifica… or is there? (just checked–still broadcasting in DC)

I'm glad we don't live in Japan (or am I?) because all the dishonor suicides by NPR execs would be filling NY Ave with blood by now.

      Much better music though

    • mavenmaven

Much better music in Japan though

      • jus_wonderin

In standard gravity that music would have to be clips, for the jumpers. What music does one pick for such an event?

    • bureaucrap

NPR can avoid the ritual suicide route by immediately selling itself to Fox News. That way it can continue to exist and still be "fair and balanced."

      • GuyClinch

Hearing “From NPR News, this is Steve Doocy” at the top of the hour just sounds wrong, so very wrong.

      • I was going to make a Rick Sanchez joke but then realized I made the exact same joke yesterday.

    • MsQuasimodo

Methinks if Wall Street et alia occurred in Japan, there would have been many dishonor suicides. The Japanese at least have some sense of morals, and personal responsibility, although suicide, however ritualistically accomplished, isn't necessarily the best response.

"The swirling toilet of American Public Life gained another floater this morning as NPR announced the immediate resignation of CEO Vivian Schiller." Congratulations, Ken. • PopeyesPipe

Why in the fuck are people still listening to serial liar O'Keefe and his goon squad of ca-ca sniffing weirdos?

Also, what exactly is the wingnuts' problem with NPR? They don't like bland middle of the road reportage? Dislike gravy voiced Minnesotans? What? What is it?

    • BaldarTFlagass

The international music segment that plays at the end of The World every day scares the shit out of them.

      • V572625694

They should understand, as every show on NPR has apparently learned, that a music segment at the end of the hour lets you play exactly the length of clips of tunes needed to round out the hour.

    • bureaucrap

The wingnuts feel that NPR is too niche-oriented, serving primarily the "truth-based community" (whose numbers are small and dwindling).

      • GayInMaine

So — reality. They just don't like or believe in reality.

Oh, and anyone having an opinion that isn't what they are told theirs are. They don't like that much either.

    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/

    • Um…that's not ironic, that's the plan. NPR is the last "opposition" voice in most of these areas. And by opposition, I mean opposed to the batshit insane, vile, lie-filled, right-wing talk radio that otherwise is the only source of news and/or entertainment in these areas.

    • GOPCrusher

And irony is lost on these wingnuts. Otherwise they wouldn't say stupid shit like "Calling someone a racist, is racist.".

  • Pithaughn

News Flash: NPR rejects funding contribution from Fascist Oligarchical Overlords Inc. I'm not making that up.

  • undeterredbyreality

I was going to suggest we send someone out to punk the Teabaggers–you know, catch them saying offensive, bigoted and embarrassing and/or factually untrue things–then I realized that we already do. It's called the daily news, but nobody seems to give a shit.

    • LesBontemps

"undeterred by reality" pretty much sums it up, dunnit?

    • MarshallBanana

If somebody on the Right says something like that, it's "a single wacko" and "not indicative of Republicans/conservatives/teabaggers as a whole". Whereas if somebody on the Left says something it's "proof of a deep-seated liberal elitist indoctrinated lamestream media plot". These are The Rules.

Let the American public really see just how grassrootsy these wingnuts really are.

  • NPR is getting close to streamlining the entire process but there is still some distance to cover to get it exactly right.

The in a perfect teabag world someone-Brietbart, Limbaugh, FuckYourMother, whoever they want–would announce that O'Keefe or some other scum is about to run an "undercover" operation against them. The next day there would be an Executive Order defunding the organization.

Simple and easy, cuts out the unnecessary steps, gets to the inevitable conclusion right away.

  • Don't. They don't need your money anyway — they've got AMD and Dow Chemical and every other evil poison maker writing gazillion dollar checks.

If you want to donate, donate to Pacifica. NPR and PBS live off the corporate teat and Ford Foundation grants.

    • V572625694

Ha ha, we had a local NPR station director say, and I'm not kidding, "just because listeners give money doesn't mean they have a say in programming."

Civility only comes up when the discussion is of people hurting the fee fees of those on the right. Fox is 24/7 uncivil to the left.

In their zeal to dismantle the federal government, piece-by-piece, the tea baggers should realize that they are going to need NPR next year if they want to hear Glenn Beck after he is booted from Fox.

  • ttommyunger

I've been witnessing the slow demise (shrinking nutsack) of NPR for many years now. It will be a relief when public funding is removed and the MegaConglomerates are its only dependable source of funding. Wonder how their programming will slant then? What will we be left with, CSPAN? They haven't the guts for a fight; they proved that when they refused to replay Colbert's Bush Roasting performance at the National Press Club's Annual Clusterfuck. Clinton's roasting by Don Imus was on a constant loop for weeks on CSPAN, but Colbert: crickets. This "series of tubes" is our last best hope. I rarely listen to radio or watch the tube now anyway, so fuckem.

    • genxr

Good point. We need to defund CSPAN! Now! Let it stand on its own in the free market. If people want to know what their government is doing, they can sit through a few "BP Cares" commercials, right?

    • fuflans

the problem with the colbert roast – which i think will go down in history as one of the more important speeches speaking truth to power – was that he also took out the media.

    • Beowoof

No they don't know, that is both sad and frightening. I have talked to these folks and the ones I have spoken with have no idea how racist they are, others know it and don't care, because the tea bag party affirms for them what they want to believe.

    • SorosBot

They believe they're not racist, because they've defined racism so narrowly that basically only people who actually have lynched a guy just for being blacked are atually racist; they think limiting their use of the n-word to when there are no black people around and not shouting it in their faces proves they're not racist.

I've certainly known some racists, and it's instructive how they behave if there are no minorities around, only white folks. All of a sudden they start saying horribly offensive shit, and they act weird if anyone is offended, because they assume all other white people are just as racist as them; a common phrase is "I'm just saying what you're all thinking".

  • MistaEko

The swirling toilet of American Public Life gained another floater this morning as NPR …

    Wait, wait! Don't tell me!

  • jqheywood

Okay, I've just tilted at the windmill. Here is my email to NPR management:

I have been a loyal listener since 1982, and today I am thoroughly disgusted with NPR. Why on earth have you fired both Schillers? James O'Keefe is a disreputable slime whose past "videos" have been horrible, deceptive, and fraudulent mashups designed to smear their targets unfairly. Ron Schiller spoke the truth when he said, in a private conversation, that the Tea Party was full of xenophobic racists. They are–just look at the signs from their rallies. And then to fire the CEO? Have you ever thought about standing up to your enemies and fighting for what is right?
NPR has been in a long, slow decline for me ever since you fired Bob Edwards. It was both wrong and shabbily done. You have followed that with a dumbing down of your content, and a retreat from actual journalism. You have enshrined the "report both sides equally, even if one is demonstrably false/fraudulent/etc" ethos. You have featured as "commentators" and "journalists," insipid Washington Villagers like Cokie Roberts, who blithely assume that their limited world view, spawned in the junior high school that is Washington Press Corps, is somehow all that there is. You have given air to that Fox News repeater of Republican talking points, Mara Liasson, whose lack of journalistic ethics and credibility should damn her to the confines of her Fox Propaganda Service hell.
I am sure that you don't give a damn about your share of my modest contribution to my local station (WAMU). But you should know that I am not alone in my disgust, and that you should not take your listeners for granted. The Tea Party doesn't listen to NPR; their antithesis does (for now). You can either stop cowering or lose us.

    • This is fantastic.

    • Well done. I will be copy-pasting large parts of this in my email to NPR. And I, too, fucking hate Mara Liasson. Why can't we get the handful of shitty people at NPR fired? (Well, I guess we did get Juan Williams fired)

      • GOPCrusher

I question whether or not Juan Williams is a true asshat, or just made his Muslim comments in order to gain some street cred with the Faux audience.

    • Radiotherapy

Applause. It's similar to the e-mails I was sending to Organizing for America after the lyin' African caved on tax cuts.

    • DustBowlBlues

Excellent. But, sorry, jwood, I take the Wonkette Tilting at Windmills prize of the day, ranting "as a Christian and a Sunday School teacher" to the staff people for our unlovable village idiot, Inhofe and Spooky Doktor Tom.

They need to get the Rachel M message to Obama (not that he listened) about courting Republithugs and trying to get them to like him: NPR–they're just not that into you.

  • snoopyfan2010

At one point, he said Tea Partiers were “xenophobic, I mean basically they are; they believe in sort of white, middle-America gun-toting. I mean, it’s scary. They’re seriously racist, racist people.”

If the comment hurts them this much, it must be true.

  • randcoolcatdaddy

NPR panics about everything. They're just scared they'll never unload all those damn totebags…

  • Steverino247

Important Safety Tip: When NPR starts calling Liberals "cockroaches" it's time to get the fuck up to Canada, everybody.

  • Welcome to KarTalk with Klick and Klack!

America is safe from liberalism once again.

  • comptoneffect

You got that right and an upfist, too.

  • Gleem_McShineys

Well, this is great news! It is always so satisfying to do-it-yourself, yes? I would imagine that totally includes subjugation! Also, doing it to yourself has the advantage that you get to administer the kinds of morale-lifting beatings that YOU like best!

So I guess "gave away the NPR totebag" should be a new Urban Dictionary term for turning over your balls/self-humiliation? Chuck's girlfriend sent him to the store to get tampons. Man, that guy totally gave away the NPR totebag!

  • Billmatic

I take everything I said back. Guys, we need to be more tolerant of dumb, fat racists on scooters. I'm turning off Godspeed You! Black Emperor and buying several Toby Keith albums, right now!

  • Wait Wait Don't Fire Me!

  • Radiotherapy

This relentless assault on anything that doesn't fit into their Capitalistic, hateful, backward worldview has got to be challenged. How about stopping faith based funding? Or, better yet, the tax break to churches? Aren't those biased entities too?

    • DustBowlBlues

Speaking of tax breaks, how much does the Westboro "church" scam off the taxpayers? And all that Xian broadcasting shit. As far as I'm concerned, if I were Czarina for the day, church would no longer be exempt. Real churches, like mine, wouldn't be affected. Winger mega-churches, however would find their "spiritual leaders" fleeing to greenr pastures–as in greenback.

  • lulzmonger

James O'Keefe = speaking power to truth.

  • Midway117

So there were two unrelated Schillers working at high-level jobs at NPR? Damn Germans control everything.

  • ALIVE!

If only Schiller would've talked about taking a baseball bat to the 'baggers, he'd still have a job.

  • user-of-owls

Goddamnit, Lizzie, I have a student coming in 10 minutes from now…a GIRL student. How the hell am I gonna explain the tent in my pants? You are an awful person.

Now I'll have to do it 'cut-'n-paste' style instead of 'fresh from the oven.' Boo!

    • Limeylizzie

Hi Owls! Oh darling, my heyday was 20 years ago now I am just "well-preserved", although I was thrilled a few months ago ,as I was strolling down to the gym ,to receive a phrase of appreciation unlike any other as I passed a group of neighbourhood denizens they said "Hi" and then as I walked past I heard one of them say -sotto voce – "Look at the shitter on that critter".

      • user-of-owls

Oh darling, my heyday was further back than that, so you'll always be that young chippie with a lust for, um, lust, to me. And I bet you have a righteous 'shitter.'

  • Pragmatist2

When you ponder the Tea Party, remember this:

  • Nationalist/Narcissist Propaganda/Pentagon/Palestinian Radiation/Relations (aka 'NPR') is the ONLY possible news outlet for America's Thinking Masses. The purse-lipped intellectual wit of Blob Siegel, the smoky sexiness of MeeShill Norris, the brilliant motormouthing of Steve Inskreep and the urbane mall-rat perspectives of Renaay Mundane are guiding lights for the future saviors of the American Empire, who pant for fun, even cheerful digestion of the world today.

NPR is America's Storyteller. People, if you'd only BELIEVE!

  • owhatever

Somehow, this is the fault of some first grade teacher in a little town in Wisconsin.

  • DahBoner

Whats so racist about calling a bigger a bigger?

Gee, those tea party racists are all honkies….

  • DustBowlBlues

Because I just found out that I'm not dying from having something weird in my lady parts (short version: the UM pastor at my little church healed me yesterday), I was in such a good mood I actually performed two acts of absolute futility: I called Inhofe's and Spooky Doktor Tom's office persons and ranted about my support for NPR and PBS and how I listen to Limbaugh and that Savage fellow on hate talk radio and find the twenty four hour a day vitriol they spew to be completely offensive to me as a Christian and Sunday School teacher.

I'm sure Idiotinhofe and Spooky Doktor Tom will immediately support public broadcasting.

    • jim89048

Good for you! My state just decided we no longer need a State Fair, so they sure as hell don't care about that one (two, actually) NPR station(s) located here.

And my naughty bits got a clean bill of health today, too. I need something new to worry about.

      • DustBowlBlues

Just turn on the news on NPR or the Newhour–better yet, rent Frontline episodes or listen for the newest news from Wisconsin or the senate going Republic in 2012 or global climate collapse or . . . You were being facetious, weren't you?

        Never mind.

PS Hurray for our lady parts. Although the Jim in your screen name has me very confused. About your bits, not mine.

    • Mariecohn

DBB, that's excellent news (about your ladyparts)!

      • DustBowlBlues

Thank you. My ladyparts and I are happy about it. And happy I won't be shelling out money on anymore medical care than usual.

  • HolyCow!!

So O'Keefe put up a fake Muslim smear website, cited extensively by not-racist-at-all conservatives, and offered a fake $5 million by posing as fake Muslim extremists to secretly record some guy giving his personal opinions? And then only after extensive editing, they had themselves a story.

America is so dumb it's embarrassing.

  • All I hope is that when the smoke clears, NPR is still on the air without Car Talk.

  • catholiccitizen

I am amazed at the depth of insight, the intelligent dialog of the American liberal intelligentsia, the tolerance that is displayed by so many of the commentators.

Vulgarity does not a cogent argument make. I believe Mr. Clinton, Mr. Biden, and a host of southern democrats who were enthusiastic members of the KKK engaged in quite a bit of racist behaviors.

  • onemoretime79

Tea Baggers prove they are not (simply) racists – they have it in for women too.

Also. The guy on tape has zero input into their news – he was in the fundraising arm. But that won't fit neatly into three second sound bytes as you have to explain the difference between opinion and news (will never fly with Fox viewers – obviously).

Further. NPR should have hit back at this slander. At the very least, pretend shock like, O'Keefe ! I thought he was in jail over that comical breaking and entering of a Senator's office. Oh yeah, another woman. So it never happened, and even if it did, no big deal.

Because NPR chooses not to mount their own defense, and instead are engaged in proving their liberal street cred by forcing out the CEO, well I guess they deserve the vitriol coming their way.

I'd feel sorry for the rural people who want something other than prayer and Rush 24/7, but it's not like they'll ever know and they probably don't want my pity thinking it's wasted.

They'd be sort of right, seeing I have a vodka in my hand right now.

  • June_Cleaver2.0

    uh, Ken… amen.

  • rocktonsam

this is good news for Scott Simon.

  • catholic4condom

I can't wait for NPR to totally cave to the conservatards. I can listen to A Steaming Pile of Hot Fresh Air with Bill O'Reilly, then No Things Considered. On weekends its, This American Life is Worth More Than a Million Meskin Lives with host Ted Nuggent, and sCARe Talk with your hosts Beck and Bachman.

  • Negropolis

If these organizations aren't going to fight for their lives when they are under unwarranted attack, why the fuck should any of us? Maybe, it's good that they are on their way out. I won't tie myself to an organization that won't even so much as curl up into a defensive fetal position when it's attacked.

Great way to fight for your listeners, NPR. How many other voluntary amputations will you preform on yourself to attempt to sate an insatiable beast?

  • smokefilledroommate

I don't give a shit. NPR is still good, worthwhile radio. Hmmph.
(Sorry, but I listen to NPR even with the ADM sponsorship (!) which, I guess, makes me a horrible ghastly person because I'm not planning some attack on a random ADM office and boycotting what I'm 'supposed' to boycott or whatever..)
Libs always fold like a lawn chair–why is this news?
