Hey! We stuck out a finger and suddenly it was covered with yet another crap reaction to this shooting: Congressman Bob Brady (D-PA) has decided to make it illegal to put crosshairs on a map like Sarah Palin's PAC did. He says he's introducing legislation to make it a federal crime "for a person to use language or symbols that could be perceived as threatening or inciting violence against a Member of Congress or federal official." Could be perceived , eh? Members of one political party would never perceive something a member of the other political party says the wrong way, right? So this law is perfect! We always understand each other, especially when it comes to the difference between wanting to destroy someone politically and wanting to destroy them. We are all going to jail.
Brady is particularly incensed over a web posting by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin during the 2010 election in which she targeted 20 House Democrats, including Giffords for political defeat. The posting showed a map of the United States with the 20 Democratic congressional districts identified by gun sights.
"You can't put bulls eyes or crosshairs on a United States congressman or a federal official," Brady said. "I understand this web site that had it on there is no longer in existence. Someone is feeling a little guilty."
Hmm! Wonder who that someone could be?
Yes, it would be nice if we stopped saying mean things about each other. And it doesn't help that people keep trying to make Teabaggers jizz in their pants by telling them to rise up with their guns against the government. But without that, politics wouldn't be politics, right? The problem is finding out how to hurt politicians politically when they say their opponents should be murdered or whatever. That, somehow, doesn't seem possible anymore. And also our elected officials are allowed to cry constantly now. What?
But if this country and its empire is just going to collapse into a violent heap of stupid anyway, it would be nice if we are allowed to talk freely in the meantime.
"Hey, if you can't beat the Second Amendment, why not take out the First?" Good work, Democrats. I don't think this is the Brady Bill we had in mind. But it is nice to see you're at least trying to come up with new ideas, pathetic as they are. [ CNN ]
