Hey you guys, Pat Buchanan has heard about an interesting new science called “eugenics.” In fact, you could even say he is an expert race scientist! He was able to become so smart because he has one of the two good types of brains (white or Chinese) and thus can provide us with valuable insights. For example, American schools aren’t so bad! American white kids perform better than whites in other countries, Asian-Americans outperform kids in Asia, American black kids do better than Africa, and Hispanic kids in America do better than “the kinfolk their parents or ancestors left behind.” The problem, you see, is that we have too many minorities in our schools, and minorities have inferior “brains.” It’s so simple!
What American schools are failing at, despite the trillions poured into schools since the 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act, is closing the racial divide.
We do not know how to close the gap in reading, science and math between Anglo and Asian students and black and Hispanic students.
And from the PISA tests, neither does any other country on earth.
What are we going to do? Replace the brains of black and Hispanic kids with the brains of white and Asian kids? Fat chance! I was reviewing the NAEP scores for my state in the Sunday edition of my hometown's paper & it seems while Math scores are holding steady/improving slightly, Reading scores have stagnated/begun to decline. OK, I read the article and it is obvious that Buchanan is simply doing a statistical analysis of the data.
He was careful NOT to make any racist or eugenic remarks. There was no mention of killing babies, of final solutions or of lobotomies for the criminally insane.
He only said When children show no capacity and/or willingness to learn, move them out and let those who can/want to learn do so.
It is a hopelessly idealistic, of course, because the new generation has been trained very well by the conservative media to blame the teachers and schools for their lack of knowledge and/or intelligence.
No he isn't "simply" analyzing the data, for Christ's sake. He's proposing concrete policy, turning large percentages of what will usually be poor kids out of the educational system. And he is basing this call to arms on a heinous idea, the idea that members of some ethnic groups tend to have less of a measurable thing called academic ability than members of other groups. This is not as horrific as calling for a Final Solution, but it is certainly not nothing, certainly not mere analysis.
