Texas Legislator Camps Out To Be First To File Clone Arizona Immigration Bill

by Jack Stuef  11:57 am November 9, 2010

Chair-or babies.State Rep. and terror-baby aficionado Debbie Riddle of Texas camped out in a folding chair in front of the legislative clerk’s office yesterday to make sure she was the first (OF MANY! USA! USA! USA!) to introduce a version of Arizona’s racial-profiling immigration law into her grand state’s legislature. This is an interesting new tactic for state lawmakers. Sure, everyone knows it’s cool to be afraid of the brown people and all the times they are planning on murdering your precious white brat children, but it’s hard to tell who is the coolest. Yes, there are those who each come up with the new idea that breaks the previous world record of hate, but those guys are immigration nerds. The real cool people are those who are the first to make this hate happen, and the best way to do that is to sit outside all night in a folding chair like you’re waiting to buy concert tickets. CONCERT TICKETS FOR THE ULTIMATE HATE CONCERT!

This is some really jawsome scary-Mexican B-roll footage, Fox affiliate. Somebody is going to get called up to the Fox major leagues. Also, haha, when this lady is talking to the reporter she doesn’t notice two scary old brown people walk down the stairs RIGHT BEHIND her, here in the people’s legislative building.

Meanwhile, other Texas lawmakers say they want to stop giving children and Medicaid recipients health care, because the federal health care reforms are too stressful for them or something. It must be hard to be a Republican legislator in Texas. Everything is a dick-measuring contest. [Houston Press/Texas Tribune]

In other news, Texas communities are following the lead of Arizona and are dismantling their curbside recycling programs.

Never forget!!!1!

nachoproblem November 9, 2010 at 1:03 pm

Wait a minute, they have curbside recycling in Texas?

Bonzos_Bed_Time November 9, 2010 at 1:19 pm

A bit of a stretch on my part, wasn't it…

HistoriCat November 9, 2010 at 2:11 pm

Depends on the community. Some locales do, some don't, some seem to be trying but the asshats can't be bothered to actually put recyclables in a separate container.

Beowoof November 9, 2010 at 1:49 pm

Recycle, that is for liberal pussies trying to leave a better world for their grand kids. Everyone knows the rapture is coming and all of the good people will be outta here. These guys seem to think it will be soon.

Bonzos_Bed_Time November 9, 2010 at 2:21 pm

I keep forgetting about that.

I hope it happens quick!

SmutBoffin November 9, 2010 at 12:02 pm

How does Debbie talk w/o her jaw moving like that? Can she even open her mouth?

Native_of_SL_UT November 9, 2010 at 12:04 pm

I think I saw this women on AMC's The Walking Dead the other night. Fortunately, the compassionate sheriff put a cap in her head.

sati_demise November 9, 2010 at 12:51 pm

Bad dentures.

hagajim November 9, 2010 at 1:14 pm

Only to suck Rick Perry's dick

elpinche November 9, 2010 at 1:14 pm

Too much corporate cock sucking.

SorosBot November 9, 2010 at 12:04 pm

Who could have suspected that the state which seceded from two different countries to preserve slavery would have bigots in the legislature?

metamarcisf November 9, 2010 at 12:05 pm

The Corrections Corporation of America wrote the Arizona law in order to incarcerate women and children and receive millions in federal funds for their trouble. Now Texas is following suit. Google Laura Sullivan / NPR for the story. This is the main reason the tea baggers want to cut funding for NPR. What a taxpayer ripoff. Fuck them!

Monsieur_Grumpe November 9, 2010 at 12:10 pm

I listened to that series. Writing legislation for profit is the newest hot industry apparently.

CrankyLttlCamperette November 9, 2010 at 12:11 pm

I heard this on the NPR a couple days ago and am quite shocked, shocked I tell you, that no other media outlet has picked it up. Now it's reduced to a Google search?

O tempora! O mores!

fatoots November 9, 2010 at 5:20 pm

Talk of the Nation had Laura Sullivan on today to revisit this. Maybe once "On Point", "Diane Rehm", and Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me!" cover it, we'll see it on Yahoo News feed.

Not_So_Much November 9, 2010 at 12:12 pm

Read that story with much anger and contempt. If only there were a way to create an incentive to corporate 'Murka to incarcerate and mistreat the steaming pantloads like Debbie here.

In other news, Texas is still (mostly) populated by mouth-breathing booger-eaters. Yosemite Sam would win any election in a landslide there.

jim89048 November 9, 2010 at 12:44 pm

They've moved into my community, too. Oddly, the 'baggers are opposed to this.

My home used to be in a solid 2 on the Bortle night sky darkness scale, now thanks to the prison lights 10 miles away, I'm at least a 3.

Ducksworthy November 9, 2010 at 1:03 pm

And isn't CCA and offshoot of the Frist family's HCA which privatized the formerly non-profit hospital sector? Teabaggery has its benefits.

BaldarTFlagass November 9, 2010 at 1:15 pm

Also Multinational United (MNU), whom the state of Texas will contract to shoo the unwanted aliens out of District 9 and into District 10. It's for their own benefit.

V572625694 November 9, 2010 at 12:06 pm

Love the image of the Illegal wading across the Rio Grande: an authentic Wetback! Ah Texas…anybody else see Gayhair Perry on Stewart last night? He's so much like Bush it's scary.

Perry/Rubio '12

KochFembot November 9, 2010 at 12:09 pm

Corrections Corporation of America approves!!

Serolf_Divad November 9, 2010 at 12:09 pm

Far-right conservatives are offering that possibility in post-victory news conferences. Moderate Republicans are studying it behind closed doors. And the party’s advisers on health care policy say it's being discussed more seriously than ever, though they admit it may be as much a huge in-your-face to Washington as anything else.

Yeah, no doubt Washington would suffer most from dropping Medicaid. Haha, Washington buuuuuuuurn! In your face! Suck on this!

State Sen. Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, who chairs the Senate Public Health Committee, said dropping out of Medicaid is worth considering — but only if it makes fiscal sense without jeopardizing care. Currently, the Texas program costs $40 billion per biennium, with the federal government footing 60 percent of the bill. As a result of federal health care reform, she said, millions of additional Texans will be eligible for Medicaid.

Holy FUCK, these people are INSANE! 40% of $40 billion is 16 billion. She thinks the state can provide better care than that afforded by a $40 billion program by replacing it with a state program that spends substantially less than $16 billion (remember, the whole point is to save money). FUUUUUCK!

Katydid November 9, 2010 at 12:20 pm

No, the whole point is to kill the poors, obvs.

nachoproblem November 9, 2010 at 1:06 pm

Well yeah, if it kills poor people, then it's better!

OneDollarJuana November 9, 2010 at 2:25 pm

And you know they'll never protest because they'll be too sick.

Ducksworthy November 9, 2010 at 1:07 pm

Mostly who they'll kills is the olds. And as we were taught about why black people should encourage privatization of socialist security, old people in nursing homes where most of the Medicaid money goes, as white.

V572625694 November 9, 2010 at 12:21 pm

Yeah, b'but $40 billion/biennium = $20 trillion per millenium. This is the kind of out-of-control government spending that will mortgage our great-great-great-great-great-grandchildens' futures!

Lascauxcaveman November 9, 2010 at 12:27 pm

I don't really know what this Medicaid thing is, but I know it's socialism and it's bad.

Why are we even talking about this? Cut the program.

One_who_wanders November 9, 2010 at 12:36 pm

Math is hard. We can do it for Frehdhum!

uncuntstitutional November 9, 2010 at 12:38 pm

The point is to break the government and every program in it so that private companies can do a worse job at it for a much higher price tag.

Gainsbourg69 November 9, 2010 at 9:13 pm

I wish the democraps had the balls to put that on a fucking tv ad.

chicken_thief November 9, 2010 at 12:40 pm

WTF? Are you stoopid or sumpin? All you have to do is CUT TAXES!!! Then everything will be fine.

One_who_wanders November 9, 2010 at 12:57 pm

Just think how much the death rate in Texas will go up – New study finds 45,000 deaths annually linked to lack of health coverage – http://goo.gl/fYlca

“The uninsured have a higher risk of death when compared to the privately
insured, even after taking into account socioeconomics, health behaviors, and
baseline health,” said lead author Andrew Wilper, M.D., who currently teaches
at the University of Washington School of Medicine. “We doctors have many new
ways to prevent deaths from hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease — but
only if patients can get into our offices and afford their medications.”

binarian November 9, 2010 at 1:04 pm

These people are insane. Who do they think funds their Larks and Rascals?

m_supercomputer November 9, 2010 at 1:30 pm

I bet they think the money can be saved by turning over management to a private company, for efficiency! Because that always works well! Never mind that private enterprise isn't all that much more efficient than the public one, in the long run, and that any amount saved is inevitably outweighed tenfold by out-of-control executive compensation schemes…

Gainsbourg69 November 9, 2010 at 9:19 pm

Privatization worked out great for Argentina. Menem privatized everything he could get his hands on and look where they ended up. If you think privatization is at all efficient look no further than I-rack.

comrad_darkness November 9, 2010 at 2:19 pm

Texas pays the most for the worst health care. Washington should just do them the express capitalist favor of cutting them off from all this crazy sokalist aid. Done and done. There, now they should stop bitching and whining . . .

CapeClod November 9, 2010 at 12:09 pm

She must have thought that if she filed it really early in the morning, all the brown people would be out collecting the white people's trash.

WhatTheHeck November 9, 2010 at 12:12 pm

So I take it, the Private Prison Companies are behind this legislation also.
Eventually they will have locked up 1/2 of the undesirable population. For profit, of course.

Swampgas_Man November 9, 2010 at 12:37 pm

Only HALF? What'll they do w/ the rest, hunt 'em for sport?

V572625694 November 9, 2010 at 1:21 pm

Not in the Peoples' Republic of California, praise Jeebus. Prisons– good old socialist prisons run by government employees — are our only growth industry.

freakishlywrong November 9, 2010 at 12:12 pm

Gaaahh! Jesus Christ wingnuts. Can you just take one day off from the hate and the crazy? Give us one fucking day where we're not viscerally reacting to some new monster. We're already deluged with the revisionist history that is Dubya's book tour. Enough. Uncle.

Radiotherapy November 9, 2010 at 12:28 pm

After yesterday's jar baby episode, its more like revulsionist history.

This kinda hooliganism wouldn't be happening if Texas had any kinda decent loitering laws.

BaldarTFlagass November 9, 2010 at 12:15 pm

binarian November 9, 2010 at 1:05 pm

Shit!!! that was last night????

BaldarTFlagass November 9, 2010 at 2:18 pm

Yup, and they sold them all, and they'll never make any more ever again, so if you missed it you are fucked.

hagajim November 9, 2010 at 1:13 pm

SorosBot November 9, 2010 at 12:16 pm

Can Rick Perry please just hurry up with that re-secession he promised us? Then the rest of this country wouldn't have to deal with that horrid state anymore.

CZL November 9, 2010 at 12:51 pm

When that happens, I'm applying for political asylum. Can I crash at your place?

hagajim November 9, 2010 at 1:12 pm

If they just left then the Repugs would lose half their electoral votes…mostly.

edgydrifter November 9, 2010 at 12:17 pm

I'll bet the Comanches are kicking themselves for not coming up with this "camping out to get rid of the Others" strategy first.

BaldarTFlagass November 9, 2010 at 12:21 pm

Wasn't "camping out" their primary mode of lifestyle?

NorthStarSpanx November 9, 2010 at 12:54 pm

Til they got hooked on those thirsty hungry petroleum products.

Lascauxcaveman November 9, 2010 at 12:18 pm

We just had a Walmart Superstore open in our town (Yay! More plastic Chinese shit, marked down.) The local paper had a story about the opening, in which some poor unemployed schmuck who camped overnight to be the first customer in the door. He was pissed when they didn't give him a prize.

Get used to it, sucker.

V572625694 November 9, 2010 at 12:23 pm

But he would've been greeted by a previously-unemployed Old in an orange vest, which is good enough for me!

Racial profiling law? we don't need no stinking racial profiling law!

CapnFatback November 9, 2010 at 12:25 pm

I honestly don't get why the coservatards are so outraged? All this insane HYPER-BOLE.
Is it spite?

Swampgas_Man November 9, 2010 at 12:41 pm

All I can think of is it's BIG GUMMINT, it's too complicated to really describe in a sentence, and we had so many looks at the sausage-making involved that everyone was heartily sick of it by the time it came out.

My Facebook newsfeed is filled with barely literate mo-fos (who voted for Obama) and their status updates decrying "government run healthcare."

IT'S TOTALLY SOCIALIST/COMMIE/FASCIST/MUSLIN TO PUSH THROUGH LEGISLATION THAT LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME AS REPUBLICAN PROPOSITIONS FROM A DECADE AGO!!!!1111111OMG

JustPixelz November 9, 2010 at 1:20 pm

First off, the Demoncrats should have called it Health Insurance Reform. It would be more accurate.

Second, there's more than a little xenophobia floating around. Illegal immigrants are ruining everything. Moslems are ruining everything. The Kenyan is ruining everything.

America is a weird and wonderful place, but these people think it is Hell.

m_supercomputer November 9, 2010 at 1:39 pm

Fear of minorities + fear of change + high unemployment and a growing population over retirement age leaving a lot of people without much to do = a whole hell of a lot of negative energy to be spread about. Take into account most people's lazy unwillingness to find out what law actually entails and well-funded corporate-sponsored misinformation about the plan spewed indiscriminately and, well, here we are. Sigh. I'm glad my one remaining grandparent isn't bored enough to get swept up in this nonsense.

Office_39 November 9, 2010 at 3:48 pm

Obamacare might fund ways to get an abortion no matter if some hayseed state/local authority decides to deny a woman's civil rights to get one. That's scary cause, god.

DemmeFatale November 9, 2010 at 7:25 pm

The content of what they say may not be (overtly) racist, but the TONE is.

Gopherit November 9, 2010 at 12:30 pm

There's nothing I like better than a politician creating a law that is superfluous under current state law to give their bigoted constituents something about which they can toothlessly smile. If you think Texas law enforcement types don't profile or call in background checks on every brown person they take into custody…….well, you've never been to Texas.

anniegetyourfun November 9, 2010 at 5:09 pm

My stupid friend who thinks that no other countries tolerate people speaking more than one language is married to an even stupider man who is as racist as all get-out. He told me that when he was a kid, whenever a car full of Mexicans would drive by his house, his mother would call up the neighbors to warn them ("There's a carfull of spics headed your way, Cletus!"), and the whole neighborhood would do the same, like a daisy chain of hatred, and all of their Aryan eyes would bore holes into the overloaded Toyota or whatever until it disappeared from view.

He was pretty proud of this united front against poor migrant workers. I was amazed that white people who live in a rural community that is approximately 30% Hispanic migrant workers would have the time to keep an eye out for every single car full of brown people that drove by, and then I remembered that most white people in the area live off of welfare, and it all came together.

SorosBot November 9, 2010 at 5:17 pm

Sounds like somebody needs new friends.

anniegetyourfun November 9, 2010 at 5:36 pm

Eh, you know, you can cut people off or you can hope to learn from each other. For instance, Stupid Racist Husband has taught me how to fire a shotgun without falling over, and I have taught him that not all gay men are interested in him.

Gopherit November 9, 2010 at 5:28 pm

Don't forget selling meth/crank. It used to be the redneck answer to keeping themselves in dogs and pickups when welfare just didn't cut it. I am convinced a lot of teabaggers are pissed at Hispanics because mexican druglords ran most of the rednecks out of the meth trade.

anniegetyourfun November 9, 2010 at 5:35 pm

Oh, god yes. My hometown economy is powered by meth and apple exports.

mavenmaven November 9, 2010 at 12:34 pm

I'd take in the Mexicans and begin to deport all scary white people with bad overbite. I don't think the Constitution protects women with nasty orthodontic issues. I'm sure the Founding Fathers would have preferred the well dressed woman in the last frame over this evil crone (certainly in Salem).

slappypaddy November 9, 2010 at 12:55 pm

when the white racists start lynching the browns, that is when we are in serious trouble, for that is when the prices for foodstuffs will skyrocket. once that happens, we can expect the lynchers to start lynching each other. if we can stand being a little hungry for a little while, the problem will clear up once the last lyncher has hanged himself (from austin's treaty oak, no doubt).

donner_froh November 9, 2010 at 1:23 pm

What's the point? Texas is already way beyond racial profiling or random stops of brown people. They don't have stop and frisk they have stop and beat to a pulp.

SecretMuslin November 9, 2010 at 2:02 pm

Texas has a law that states: "When two trains meet each other at a railroad crossing, each shall come to a full stop, and neither shall proceed until the other has gone." So yeah, they've gone full retard. Mexico wouldn't take that rancid turd back if you paid 'em.
