Washington Post Claims Brigade’s Strategy Is To ‘Strike and Destroy’ D.C.

by Ken Layne  1:43 pm October 14, 2010

Hooray, the Capitol is finally being destroyed by some American Army Brigade!

This is the same kind of can-do “give us a couple hundred billion dollars and we’ll get the job done” Army strategy recently used in Iraq and Afghanistan. But ever since teevee dildo Pat Sajak said U.S. soldiers cannot vote in American elections, we all knew the Army would eventually turn its massive firepower upon our own U.S. Capitol. Oh well. Washington, D.C. will be Obama's Korea.

BaldarTFlagass October 14, 2010 at 1:51 pm

Yeah, but Kirk Douglas will let the president know about it and that evil military genius Burt Lancaster will get his comeuppance before the coup takes place.

Serolf_Divad October 14, 2010 at 1:51 pm

"In March, the platoon's first lieutenant and sergeant were removed from their posts because their soldiers had been caught shooting at dogs, according to Army investigative records. In contrast, no disciplinary action was taken after platoon members shot and killed four Afghan men – who were allegedly unarmed – in as many incidents"

I blame PETA.

(BTW: I think I've figured out Ken Layne's new writerly strategy: make some silly, superficial joke about a news story, then link to an article so dreadfully awful in its imlpications that you just want to drop everything you're doing, go home and lock yourself in a closet with a bottle of gin and a handgun).

Lascauxcaveman October 14, 2010 at 2:02 pm

He's invested heavily in gin stocks.

DoktorZoom October 14, 2010 at 5:22 pm

He's a gindenerate.

SayItWithWookies October 14, 2010 at 1:52 pm

Fortunately DC is defended by an array of incomprehensible traffic circles, which should give Michelle Obama sufficient time to rescue the Nefertiti bust and the ibex horns and other precious artworks from the White House before the British brigade burns it to the ground.

mumbly_joe October 14, 2010 at 1:53 pm

And to think, we here at Wonkete all foolishly mocked those atrocious idiot Oathkeepers, and now there is literally nobody let to prevent this awful, real, real, non-imaginary thing that is clearly actually happening.

GOPCrusher October 14, 2010 at 2:30 pm

And I can guarantee you, that those Oathkeepers are cheering on the brigade, especially the "killing Afghan civilians for sport and desecrating the corpses" part. If they had their opportunity, they would do the same thing here.

mumbly_joe October 14, 2010 at 2:37 pm

Oh certainly. Why do you think I'd rather pretend that that some rogue General is crossing the Patomac, than actually read the actual WaPo article about US-lead death squads in Afghanistan?

SimonGirty October 14, 2010 at 4:31 pm

They came first for the inbred, wet-brain, crankheads.
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Republican.

Then they came for the hate-mongering, lying Christian Identity gangsters
and I didn't speak up because I was heterosexual, ethical and sane.

Then they came for the sleazoid, criminals in the Financial, Insurance and Real Estate sectors, who destroyed our nation. But I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Fox viewer.

Then they came for me…

Well… EXCUSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeee MEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeee!!!

petejayhawk October 14, 2010 at 1:55 pm

What is that in the picture? It looks like a website, only on…paper? Weird.

johnnyzhivago October 14, 2010 at 2:16 pm

Must be something REALLY new, because it seems to be bigger and more ergonomic than an iPad, plus it curves and bends to fit in your pocket….

Pop_Socket October 14, 2010 at 2:37 pm

Maybe you can even take it to the washroom with you to read it there.

elviouslyqueer October 14, 2010 at 2:58 pm

This is the WaPo, sir or madam. "Reading it" in the washroom is hardly the most appropriate use.

Bonzos_Bed_Time October 14, 2010 at 1:57 pm

It's a British brigade, right? Because they have a bad habit of burning D.C. and environs.

fuflans October 14, 2010 at 2:01 pm

it's baggers – coming for wonkette.

elpinche October 14, 2010 at 2:02 pm

slappypaddy October 14, 2010 at 2:04 pm

omfg, a brigade of soldiers in a combat zone has a "kill team" in it. don't they know they're supposed to be "winning hearts and minds," not "winning the war"?

can't win that fucking war thing nohow, doesn't matter who or what they kill in whatever number.

GOPCrusher October 14, 2010 at 2:33 pm

Have to create more terrorists, otherwise the War On Terror would stop, and then peace would break out.
Besides their Muslins, it's not like they're real humans or anything like that.

mrblifil October 14, 2010 at 2:05 pm

John Stewart Rally…your days are numbered.

JMPEsq October 14, 2010 at 2:06 pm

They should never have invited those Martians to speak.

V572625694 October 14, 2010 at 2:07 pm

The story really is depressing, in that a brigade commander just decided, "Fuck it, I don't care about nation building. I just wanna kill some dudes," and nobody noticed, not even Certified Genius General Petraeusâ„ ™®©.

CapnFatback October 14, 2010 at 2:07 pm

These Super Bowl halftime shows are getting harder and harder to understand.

ttommyunger October 14, 2010 at 2:09 pm

Spend billions training and conditioning people to kill, and then act surprised and offended when they do so. A Brigade is supposed to kill people and break things, just like a Division is, just on different scales.

V572625694 October 14, 2010 at 2:14 pm

Or a brigade (or a corps or battalion or a squad) could do what the Prez sez, rather than whatever it feels like doing. Maybe all that training to win WW II again in the Fulda Gap isn't working out so well.

Chet Kincaid October 14, 2010 at 2:37 pm

Yes, but officers are supposed to be college-educated warrior-scholars with some kind of higher agenda. This "Colonel Harry D. Tunnel IV" is no better than Michael Vick. Bad News Brigade.

ttommyunger October 27, 2010 at 10:58 pm

I'm always depressed/amused when people try to apply humane rules to the most inhumane of professions. As you might as guessed, I was not a commissioned officer, neither did I make a career of either the Army or Corps.

US TO LENDERS:
NO MORATORIUM, BUT FIX THE MESS.
PLEASE.

Failed_2_Menace October 14, 2010 at 2:13 pm

The preservation of American freedoms here enjoys a confluence with the surest route to rescue American cinema.

Kill Michael Bay.

I'm (sadly) reminded of the old joke about the difference between the Boy Scouts of America and the United States Army. The Boy Scouts have adult supervision.

2/1 Inf was a part of my division at Ft. Lewis in 1973. They were damned sorry then and haven't improved.

Chet Kincaid October 14, 2010 at 2:33 pm

Jesus fucking christ, that WP story is appalling. It's like Casey Affleck got imbedded to do a mockumentary remake of "Apocalypse Now." "Colonel Harry D. Tunnell IV"?? Somebody send Charlie Sheen up the river to kill the sonofabitch.

No seriously, this will be a movie, some day soon. It's so fucked up no libtard director could resist.

Monsieur_Grumpe October 14, 2010 at 2:33 pm

So much for those world renowned American values.

Pop_Socket October 14, 2010 at 2:38 pm

Rum, buggery, and the lash?

HistoriCat October 14, 2010 at 2:34 pm

I'm guessing someone needs to have his Patton DVD taken away. Doesn't that whole "Chain of Command" thing work in the Army any more?

aguacatero October 14, 2010 at 2:47 pm

SHOCKING AND SICKENING!!!!1!!!

I had no idea the Post still had home subscribers!

Chet Kincaid October 14, 2010 at 2:51 pm

That story doesn't make up for the Tony Perkins op-ed, but thanks for the effort, WaPo.

"Col. Harry D. Tunnell IV." I still can't get over that.

mavenmaven October 14, 2010 at 3:06 pm

The scary thing is that this is exactly what the Soviet's Afghanistan strategy was, almost in the same words. (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/report/2001/soviet-afghan_compound-warfare.htm)

mavenmaven October 17, 2010 at 10:08 pm

Thanks, never noticed that before. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/re...

Oblios_Cap October 14, 2010 at 3:08 pm

It would be nice if the military would just stick its given role of defending the US instead of always running off and getting involved in large corporations' trade wars.

I certainly don't see how any military actions on over in Asia Minor these days are making me any more "free".

SecretMuslin October 14, 2010 at 10:34 pm

Richard H – the last home subscriber to the Washington Post. Perhaps he still wears a Members Only jacket as well?

I kid Richard H, I kid…

SecretMuslin October 14, 2010 at 10:52 pm

Damn you Ken Layne – while visiting the WaPoop I read Dana Millbank's lame piece about the O'Donnel/Coons debate and THEN I read the comments. Note to self, avoid Washington Post like the hideous soul-sucking plague that it is.

transfatz October 15, 2010 at 1:07 am

The Stryker is one of the dumbest pieces of military equipment in history. How many of these $2.8 million dodos have been destroyed because their tires burn? Imagine that. Those wily insurgents have learned to use fire. What's next, bullets?
