Ken Buck To Defend Himself This Week For Not Prosecuting Rape

by Jack Stuef  1:43 pm October 12, 2010

This is where you hang out when you want to forget the stresses of not prosecuting rapes. It’s generally not a good thing for a candidate’s election chances to be accused of raping someone. But is a good thing for a candidate to be accused of not prosecuting some rape cases that maybe should have been? We shall see! That’s what is happening to Colorado GOP Senate nominee and Birther-hater Ken Buck this week, as part of “three-part series” by the Colorado Independent, an Internet World Wide Web site. First up is a lady who says she was raped but was told by the boy-ranching prosecutor Buck there was not enough evidence this was actual “rape rape” to get a jury to convict. Except lots of lawyer people told this woman her case actually probably would have been successful.

A rape victims’ advocate in Greeley told the Independent that this case seemed to be a turning point for Buck. The Weld County DA’s office “learned a lesson from that case,” Deana Davies said. Davies is coordinator of the Assault Survivors’ Advocacy Program in Greeley. [...]

“The way he handled that victim was unfortunate, but he did learn from that experience.” Davies said that shortly after this case, Buck helped start the SART Program (Sexual Assault Review Team), which includes law officers, victim advocates and others who review cases that may fall into gray areas or look difficult to prosecute.

“I’d heard that as well,” the victim said. “That’s great. I appreciate that. Maybe something good came out of this, but it doesn’t change anything with my case. If he had just called me once and said, ‘I’m sorry, I screwed up,’ then I would have let it go. I would have said ‘I’m good’ and moved on, but that never happened.”

Buck responded by saying the story originally came from a disreputable news source and his district attorney agreed with the decision not to prosecute. So we will have to see how he is forced to respond to these other stories about rapings this week! If they are worse, he will probably have to come up with another excuse, such as, “I was too busy at the Colorado Boys Ranch at the time, ranching boys, like most voters.”

And that’s how news about rape gets boring but may still have an effect on female voters. We want to see an investigation into that boy ranch. [Colorado Independent/Weigel]

She was asking for it; should have left her pussy at home where it belonged. Oh, she was at home? Well, she was still asking for it.

Doglessliberal October 12, 2010 at 1:49 pm

Pretty much what he said, noting it was a case of "buyer's remorse." Classy.

WhatTheHeck October 12, 2010 at 1:54 pm

So she was asking for it. Just like Colorado was asking to be Bucked.

metamarcisf October 12, 2010 at 1:47 pm

Bungling the rape case should put him in good with the dumb-ass vote. I've got my own issues; I just had a comment deleted on Breitbart for referring to a mormon church leader as Elder Boyd "The Fudge" Packer. My afternoon is now ruined.

Monsieur_Grumpe October 12, 2010 at 1:59 pm

I now see how you got that awesome Pee Point score. Carry on.

elviouslyqueer October 12, 2010 at 2:05 pm

I wouldn't fret too much, seeing as your comment probably reminded Andy B. of what he wasn't getting to do with our Riley.

H Curve October 12, 2010 at 3:42 pm

Andy B's thoughts turned to our man Riley as a single, glistening tear welled in the Breitbart right eye, the good eye, at the thought of so much fudge left unpacked. *Wistful sigh*

Monsieur_Grumpe October 12, 2010 at 1:52 pm

He was just protecting her from those activist judges.

kenlayisalive October 12, 2010 at 1:56 pm

They rape the constitution.

ph7 October 12, 2010 at 2:49 pm

The Constitution was asking for it after adding 19th amendment.

LionelHutzEsq October 12, 2010 at 3:57 pm

Serves it right for being a living document!

Extemporanus October 12, 2010 at 1:54 pm

"First up is a lady who says she was raped but was told by the boy-ranching prosecutor Buck there was not enough evidence that the evidence was actual rape rape to get a jury to convict."

You should be prosecuted for raping that sentence, Jack.

user-of-owls October 12, 2010 at 9:26 pm

That sentence was asking for it.

carlgt1 October 12, 2010 at 1:54 pm

what I find amazing about this is not that a Repug fails to help a raped woman (Palin's pay-as-you're-raped test kits anyone?) — but the defense from his team seems to be along the lines of "ooooh – the people making the accusation are some outfit with "progressive" in their name — so of course they're evil terrorist commies, eh, they have "progressive" in their name!"

Oblios_Cap October 12, 2010 at 1:54 pm

He also said people should vote for him in the primary instead of former Lt. Gov. Jane Norton because he doesn’t wear high heels.

I don't believe him. He wears high heels, suspenders, and a bra.

Terry October 12, 2010 at 2:00 pm

After a hard day or lumberjacking?

Oblios_Cap October 12, 2010 at 2:11 pm

Just like his dear papa.

Swampgas_Man October 12, 2010 at 2:34 pm

Meh, he's OK.

Serolf_Divad October 12, 2010 at 1:55 pm

I'm not saying you were asking for it… I'm just saying that someone who was asking for it would have done all the same things you did and maybe even dressed a litle bit less like a whore than you did, honey.

taylormattd October 12, 2010 at 1:56 pm

If Jesus and Moses implant a baby in your cooter, it can't be rape. Shuh.

doxastic October 12, 2010 at 2:01 pm

Every time God closes a rape-door, he opens a rape-window. That just so happens to also be the Colorado Boys Ranch slogan.

Extemporanus October 12, 2010 at 1:58 pm

"Sexual Assault Review Team"?

SART fappin', you guys!

V572625694 October 12, 2010 at 1:59 pm

See, rape isn't a simple crime, like theft. If someone steals your car, you don't have a car. But if someone rapes your mother, you've still got a mother, right? So what the Buck are you whining about, people?

Think of the bumper-sticker possibilities:

"Don't let Buck Buck up Colorado!"
"What the Buck is going on here?"
"Who gives a Buck?"
"Bucking for Colorado!"

GuyClinch October 12, 2010 at 2:46 pm

Uh, totally off-topic, but I just came across a commenter on an automotive blog that has exactly the same userID as you. Thought it might be you, but other V572625694 not as funny

V572625694 October 12, 2010 at 2:53 pm

That would be me. Not much opportunity to make fun of 'tards over there, and the faux-libertarian element is fierce: Govt ownership of GM is socialism, whereas a six-lane freeway to carry my SUV from my McMansion to my job is a fundamental requirement of a civilized society.

Gratuitous World October 12, 2010 at 2:02 pm

When will this "victim" go on the record with her name, address and measurements?!

what the buck.

JMPEsq October 12, 2010 at 2:03 pm

Well sheet, if he started prossecutin' cimes again' women they'd start gettin' it into their perty little heads that they's people with equawl rights an' stuff.

Oblios_Cap October 12, 2010 at 2:18 pm

It's "she-it". Drawl correctly.

Kidneys4Sale October 12, 2010 at 2:05 pm

John McCain once 'helped start' reform of the S&L biz.

riverside68 October 12, 2010 at 2:06 pm

I heard that part of the reason Buck wouldn't prosecute was that the rapist told him that the victim had a motive to lie since she had aborted his child months before. The victim said it was a miscarrage not an abortion, and why was that a motive. She said she was considering a private prosecution, but Buck told her everything about her would be 'very public' and advised against it.

Let this be a lesson ladies: If you have an abortion, consent is no longer necessary!

This class act was polling at 50.1 a few days ago.

JMPEsq October 12, 2010 at 2:12 pm

And here I thought the "she had consensual sex in the past, therefore is a slut, therefore can't be the victim of rape" defense had thankfully died decades ago.

Oh wait, this is Colorado, home of the Kobe Bryant acquittal; although that showed they will at least prosecute a rapist if he's black.

Winnie_Cooper October 12, 2010 at 4:06 pm

It's not actually a valid defense that prosecutors are required to refute, but even here in Philly defense attorneys introduce that stuff under the guise of "creating reasonable doubt," which I like to call, "distracting the jury with twaddle."

realmurkin October 12, 2010 at 6:32 pm

I've seen a high school girl reduced to tears by a defense lawyer who basically berated her for being a prostitution hoo-er because her skirt was so short that clearly any janitor EVAR would be forced to take upskirt photos of her to fappity fap to later. I can't even imagine what kind of shit these people must pull when it comes to cases of actual rape.

mumbly_joe October 12, 2010 at 2:22 pm

And if you had a miscarriage, it's basically an abortion, because you didn't love your Trig enough. So basically, serving an extra dose of guilt with what is already a traumatizing and deeply upsetting event.

Republicans love women so much.

Baconcat October 12, 2010 at 2:08 pm

He's got my respect. Boy ranching is way harder than Boy farming. Anybody can plant a bunch of boys in a row and water them, but you try collecting the morning eggs from a bunch of free roaming Jersey Reds.

JMPEsq October 12, 2010 at 2:20 pm

It's fairly simple; Buck's not gonna run one of those hippie free range boy ranches, but a proper factory ranch, where the boys are kept in confined quarters and fattened up so they produce plenty of boy meat per acre.

natoslug October 12, 2010 at 2:47 pm

They might fatten up sooner if he'd quit dragging them into the milking shed.

x111e7thst October 12, 2010 at 2:22 pm

It's not so bad. You buy the boys young, let them roam free for a season, then round them up and ship them by rail to the feedlots. After a month or two on high fructose corn syrup they are ready for sale to the porn industry and to senior Republican politicians.

Baconcat October 12, 2010 at 5:05 pm

can you keep them kosher?

DashboardBuddha October 12, 2010 at 2:26 pm

The trick to ranching the Jersey Reds is to get them to wear noisy bling…that and use frosted lip gloss.

nounverb911 October 12, 2010 at 2:08 pm

“I was too busy at the Colorado Boys Ranch at the time, ranching boys, like most voters.”

Buck will fit right in with the republican teabagging caucus.

Ruhe October 12, 2010 at 2:08 pm

Boy Ranching? Is that activity part of the Super Adventure Club agenda?

LionelHutzEsq October 12, 2010 at 3:59 pm

You have to understand, Boys raised on a ranch are extra-tender, and beloved by Conservatives of all stripes.

Tommmcatt October 12, 2010 at 2:10 pm

I have some movies about Boy Ranches if you think seeing them would help, Jack. I mean, the boys average around 22 -years old and the only way you can tell it is a ranch is that they wear cowboy hats and there are ropes involved, but I'd love to help out with your research. How many beers should I have on hand?

LionelHutzEsq October 12, 2010 at 2:22 pm

Wait, in Colorado, isn't it only rape if the sheep gets preggers?

tcaalaw October 12, 2010 at 8:15 pm

Well, in Weld County at least, yes.

Sue4466 October 12, 2010 at 2:27 pm

This is the same guy who would prohibit women from getting an abortion in the case of rape. Could it be that he just doesn't think rape is a big deal? No, that couldn't be right? cause he's a pro-family conservative.

SayItWithWookies October 12, 2010 at 2:28 pm

The victim expected a prosecutor to say he was sorry? No prosecutor anywhere — and I've always wondered why this makes them especially fit for elected office — has apologized for doing anything wrong, ever. She's probably fortunate Ken Buck didn't jump over his desk and start caning her for leading an innocent Colorado fratboy into perdition.

iburl October 12, 2010 at 2:31 pm

When Republicans are in charge you'd better hide your kids, hide your wife, and hide your husband too, cuz they're rapin' everybody out here.

weejee October 12, 2010 at 2:34 pm

Okay, so when it comes to rape in Colorado the Buck stops clear, but what about pillage? What is Buck's position on pillaging? The voter needs to know.

CrankyLttlCamperette October 12, 2010 at 2:54 pm

Pillage first, THEN burn!

gurukalehuru October 12, 2010 at 2:49 pm

Ken Buck
don't give a fuck

Ducksworthy October 12, 2010 at 3:05 pm

Keep rasslin them dogies Buck. Hogtie & brand em.

Mort_Sinclair October 12, 2010 at 4:32 pm

Eh?

“The way he handled that victim was unfortunate, but he did learn from that experience.” Davies said that shortly after this case, Buck helped start the SART Program (Sexual Assault Review Team), which includes law officers, victim advocates and others who review cases that may fall into gray areas or look difficult to prosecute.

Ohhhhhhh, I see. Let me get this straight. So instead of just deciding outright that the victim's complaint doesn't rise to the level of "rape rape," he thought it best to start a committee to determine whether or not a victim's complaint rises to the level of "rape rape." Is this guy for real?? No, 'fraid not, there, sweetiepie, you just go home and soak yer lady parts in the tub for a while and you'll be good as new. WTF?

likeits1999 October 18, 2010 at 2:01 pm

Honorable mention to Colorado Boys Ranch:
