Woo! Party! Fewer than 100,000 jobs were lost last month. High fives, everyone! It could have been 100,000, but it wasn’t!
The unemployment rate stayed at 9.6 percent as the overall economy lost 95,000 jobs for the month. Most of that loss came from a decline in government employment, and particularly from a drop in temporary Census 2010 jobs. The private sector added 64,000 jobs for the month.
Good. We would rather be unemployed and destitute than have that Scary Big Government waste money by giving people jobs. [The Hill]

Who says Dems don't know how to shrink government?
I can't wait to hear the November tally when they add in all of the Senators and Reps that lose their jobs on Nov 2nd.
They can all come and build the new, completely unneeded Department of Homeland Security building that's going up in my town.
Or they could just come and and fix the big potholes in our neglected roads, by climbing into the potholes and dying.
How come the stock market goes up every time employment goes down? Is it because the hourly rate for gardeners and maids market in Greenwich declines commensurately with employment, which makes the brokers happy, so they buy more stock, and the price of stock goes up?
Makes sense to me. Duzzit to yew?
The reality is, unfortunately, just a variant on the snark. The private sector thinks that when unemployment is high, it's cuz people are getting laid off, which makes the companies more profitable. As long as a company is profitable, Wall Street is indifferent as to whether it does the job with 2 or 20,000 employees.
The Republicans will now call for patience, exactly as they did after Dubya was elected and cut taxes and complained about how nobody could appreciate that things were getting better when the economy was just "ooching along." And I am Marie of Romania.
Plus 10 for Dorothy Parker reference!
Remember how Talk Radio and the Conservative Blog-o-sphere were all claiming that Obama was hiring Census workers just to inflate the job numbers in the spring? Bet they don't talk about that much now.
Yes, Obama was following the "plain language of the Constitution" — the lyin' African bastard.
staying the course!
It's OK, Chris Christie has just made sure that unemployment should start skyrocketing again, at least in north Jersey and New York City.
He is such a bloated turd, and yet, apparently an up-and-comer for the Republicans…what a bright future we have.
Christie is the biggest rising star the Republicans have today. Literally, because he's fat.
Oh, you haven't heard his plan for floating rickshaw taxis then.
Am I the only one here who worries about the banks? They are apparently going to be FORCED to pretend to produce legit paper before they can toss lazy shit stains who don't pay their mortgages out into the cold. Socialism. This is not a Moral Sentiment I can believe in.
Not only that, but some people are actually trying to make them prove someone hasn't paid their mortgage before getting a foreclosure, just because some banks happened to seize a few houses from people who had been paying.
Socialism again!
I thought I read somewhere that banks can burn down houses that don't pay every penny of every fee. It's a Christian duty or something like that.

It's unfair to apply logic to the arguments of the wingtards. In that battle, they're unarmed.
What we need is another census!
How about a tree census or a squirrel census?
A census of those who have been a victim/perpetrator of a con perhaps? A sort of a con-sensus.?
Right. Productivity increases with increased unemployment. Hey, what's with the low consumer confidence anyway?
I, for one, am not going to buy anything until the wealthy get the tax cuts they so richly deserve.
When a major US conglomerate can get their shit designed and built in China, with the back office in Bangalore, why should they care about jobs?
They wonder why we aren't queuing up for those thousands of great, $10 hour WalMart jobs stocking shelves and being cashiers.
Walmart's paying $10/hr? Time to re-evaluate my career options.
