Climate Change Campaign Makes Gross Video, Tries To Hide It, Fails

  hey it's that xfiles gal

A bunch of Hollywood types in, uh, England got together to make a fun movie about how people should try to reduce the carbon emissions, even though it’s too late. (Ha ha, what is happening in Los Angeles today? How about DC and New York?) Anyway this is the movie the group made and then hid, and then apologized for:

And now it’s all over the Internet and the usual people who say “Agh the pagan environmentalists want to kill us all, for Mordor” are saying these things on the Internet.

I wish I had one of those button things for when I'm driving in traffic and some motherfucker cuts me off. Or still has a W'04 or McCain/Palin sticker on their car.

Yeah…I get that urge all the time driving in Oregon. You wouldn't think it would be so here but since we're so majority liberal our wingnuts have to be extra super deluxe assholes to keep their mylar bubbles sealed. In fact, I wish my digital camera wasn't broken but I saw the posterchild for trucknutz just the other day. It was a giant, lifted early 2000's Chevy pickup with K.C. headlamp covers, stickers of Calvin pissing on a Ford and vaguely threatening bumper stickers about guns and beer and the confederate flag. To top it all off it had a glorious pair o' trucknutz festooned underneath, just swaying in the wind. The guy next to me literally had the same "god, what an asshole" look on his face as this magnificent relic of devolution revved his engine at a red light and then peeled off probably headed to god…for only the lawrd could truly appreciate such a wonderful, mighty creature as he….I caught a glimpse of the back of the drivers head…yep, bald…classic Oregon neo-nazi and also, wingnut calling card.

I've always wanted a Revenge Horn. Honk the Revenge Horn, and it sends out an ultrasonic wave that causes all the paint to fall off the offensive target car. Of course, all the paint falls off your car, too, but revenge is sweet.

This is where you pull beside the guy, give him a smile and a thumbs up, tell him "Nice ride!" and then ask what kind of mileage he gets.

      3. transfatz

Yeah, but my Subaru always beats them off the line and for the first 1/8 mile or so. As they finally pass me I can almost hear the sound of their gas gauge falling.

  2. CthuNHu

Um, confuse "make persuasive, participation-inspiring pro-environment ad" with "make expensive personal vengeance fantasy wish-fulfillment video on the clients' dime" much?

These morons would've taken the script to The Wedding Crashers and turned out Kill Bill.

    1. Lost_Teabaggers

Yes and touchy feely vidoes work so well, don't they? I mean Obama's entire inspiring campaign of how we're all Americans, not Democrats and Republicans, liberals and conservatives really brought the reality-free bigots out of their smokey netherworlds, didn't they? The video wasn't also what you posited as well….that would have been more something like Al Gore dressing as a ninja and taking out an Exxon board meeting…which would also have been funny.

  3. SayItWithWookies

Well that's a little drastic — can't we start with the concentration camps and if that doesn't work, we can start thinking about other approaches?

    1. GeneralLerong

Well, we already have those Death Panels, maybe we could get some extra mileage out of them?

Good lord that was the most British thing I have ever seen. From the politeness that masks their sheer brutality to Peter Crouch to Weird Fishes . . . all it was missing was an old fashioned cane beatdown and Dave Cameron thinking about cocks.

EDIT: The South Park guys did something kinda similar to this, with the complete opposite message, and it was funny.

    1. Lost_Teabaggers

Yeah that makes sense…but of course liberals have the ability of self deprication so they don't get so easily offended. It reminds me a bit of the way conservatives used to cry every single time anyone called Bush stupid which meant they cried a lot while even Obama makes teleprompter jokes. Just goes to show who doesn't live in a fortress of solitude and idiotic self agrandizement and who does…

      1. mdotsota

Yeah, it's amazing looking back on how upset they used to get with Will Ferrell's W impression during the 2000 campaign, which was actually pretty tame.

    2. Bluestatelibel

Now you understand what the Irish have been putting up with for the last four centuries.

  5. natoslug

I'm doing my part. I'm shutting off the lights and the video cameras and the computer when I rub one out. Should cut my emissions down by 90%.

  6. SexySmurf

If I understand this video right, we can stop global warming by blowing up Frenchmen. I can get behind that.

  7. not that Dewey

Wouldn't a simple chair-tipping-back-into-a-trap-door have sufficed? If it was good enough for Dr. Evil…

Talk about the violence inherent in the system! I'm NEVER voting Green Party aga____________________________________________

  9. emberglance

I'm kind of staggered to see these were written by Richard "Notting Hill" Curtis – a man who's been endlessly vilified for his gentility and tweeness. I'm impressed!

  10. Guppy06

Oh, no, News Corp. isn't going to make any hay out of that at all!

I hope they at least think of a better name for it than "Climategate II."

  11. DCHatesMe

I would'nt want pieces of Matt Drudge and Tucker Carlson on me, nor would I wish them upon on anyone.

  12. Guppy06

Of course they're not being serious! It's a joke! And Sarah Palin and Sharron Angle are only speaking metaphorically when they talk about "reloading" their "Second Amendment remedies!" Everybody understands that nobody is talking about assassinations or explosive summary executions!

    Right?

There's a lesson to be learned here, something about wrestling with a pig.

    1. Lost_Teabaggers

Yes but I'm going to borrow a line from that classic slob-comedy "Super Troopers" to establish demarcation. "Our shenanigans are cheeky and fun" while "his shenanigans are cruel and tragic". I think that's the difference between a video that's absurd on its premise and people brandishing weapons while making real (especially with this country's history taken into account of white southerners brandishing weapons over hatred of black men and considering the racially charged 'baggery) dangerous threats. They don't even compare and it's disingenuous to say they do. Another example of difference is when wingnuts took our satire of Curious George the moronic monkey and applied it to President Obama. What was light-hearted and actually pretty funny in its mocking suddenly transformed into cruel and deliberately cynical racism especially with history taken into consideration. That to me describes the difference between what you're seeing here (including when the South Park guys did almost the same thing to liberals) and Sarah Palin and Sharron Angle's violence fantasy "metaphors" and racistly connatative phrases, etc.

      1. Guppy06

Whether the interpretation is right, or justified, or intended, or whatever, we're talking about people with a persecution complex. Give them ammunition to work with ("The Radical Left wants to summarily execute all who disagree, the godless communists!") and that will only make them more powerful.

Stuff like this gives Boehner a boehner. Do you really want that?

  13. JustPixelz

They wrote in their so-called apology: " Unfortunately in this instance we missed the mark. Oh well, we live and learn.

That's kind of a metaphor how we got in this whole global warming situation. We just "missed the mark" in how we live. Now we'll just have to "live and learn", although little chance of the former and none for the latter.

  14. kenlayisalive

Yeah, I don't get it. I'd happily have a button that exploded idiots though.

Reminds me a little of that video where the town decides to blow up the dead beached whale to get rid of it. Does not go well.

That teacher in the first bit is super fuckable in a hippie do-gooder with big glasses kind of way.

  15. Lost_Teabaggers

Yeah kenlay you oil man from hell, I don't get it either. Progressives and Libtards are pissed at Obama and the Democrats for not standing up for themselves (which I happen to agree with the criticism). But many of the commenters on here including Ken Layne seem to be pissed or at least midly offended by British libtards standing up for themselves in satire (which is how we Lefties do it, Wingnuts bring signs threatening violence and we satire that violence thus defusing it and exposing its base stupidity). Make up your goddamn minds, people! This ad is funny and none of you can tell if such a button existed you wouldn't say pop that giant bag of gelatin Limbaugh or explode that cuntlips from the taint of a demonic goat, Malkin. Face it people, we're going to have to take the gloves off for a while and hit back lest we lose even more of this country then we've already lost. There's an old saying, "better to be strong and wrong than weak and right", now think about it…process it; yes it is moronic but it describes unfortunately how you win a debate in the US. What we need to do is not only be right, but be strong and tough while making our points.
