Some Yakima, Washington-area anti-taxers have stirred up a little controversy for a unique parade float they made in honor ofNachosNaches Sportsman's Days, one of Real America's favorite holidays. The float featured a person wearing a Barack Obama mask whipping another fellow dressed up as a "future tax payer" and pulling a wagon full of oldsters clutching anti-taxation signs. You might be surprised to find out that these paraders were not post-racial performance artists from some hippie school, but Teabaggers from a group called "Remember Us...We the People."
Here they are making their big splash at the parade:
Some people have charged that Remember Us...'s float was "racist" or very bad manners or both. But the local NAACP presidentdidn't think it was racist -- only "sad," he says. Remember Us... President Kirk...Groenig agrees with the NAACP guy (except for the "sad" part, which he doesn't like), the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports:
"It's ridiculous when people say it is racism. I reject any of that," Groenig said, adding that the group is trying to bring attention to overspending and the growing national debt. "We need accountability."
Accountability is good! It's like a "principle," of which Remember Us... has nine. Though your Wonkette's favorite is #7 -- "I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable," which demonstrates ATTITUDE -- the most practical one for our analysis is #8, "It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion." With this in mind, it is not un-American but actually good to make slavery floats.
Remember Us... describes itself as a "non-partisan grassroots organization," but unfortunately they just don't seem to like any Democrats right now. (Check back later, and maybe they will.) On their Facebook page is this picture of one of their ranks enjoying the "cushy" seat of U.S. Senator Patty Murray, a Democrat:
But as the comments show, they were only taking advantage of Murray and her hospitality, because they are actually scheming to hand her "a pink slip" in November. It's because she doesn't hold town meetings or not-racist parades.
Keep your government hands off my fears and bigotry!
The Teabaggers' claim that they are not racist is pretty much identical to the Clinton-Gingrich conviction that oral sex isn't sex.
