NRA Declines To Endorse Harry Reid Despite $61 Million Monument To Gun Crimes He Built Them

by Jack Stuef  5:05 pm August 27, 2010

Remember when RedState put up a Drudge Siren about how the NRA was going to endorse Harry Reid? Yeah, not happening. They say they won’t support him because he voted for Justices Sotomayor and Kagan. So why did taxpayers fund a $61 million earmark for a gun range in the middle of the Nevada desert?

Americans work HARD to give their government the money it needs to buy your endorsement of its Senate majority leader, NRA. How much taxpayer money are you going to need before you finally fork it over to him? What a waste! We need you to endorse Harry Reid, but it should only cost us taxpayers $50 million, tops. This would almost be a reason to vote out Reid. That is, if Angle wasn’t a complete closet case.

I thought I made lousy investment decisions.

That’s a very good reason not to endorse Reid, voting for two justices who haven’t given any indication on how they’d rule on the NRA’s sole issue.

Gesh.

If the NRA would give me $61 mil, I’d vote for ANYTHING.

(Got to wonder, though: Was that the Dove of Peace that Harry and his brothers were blasting out of the sky?

I hope so.)

Remember, guns don’t kill people. This is true.

Bullets, fired from guns, fired by idiots, kill people. Give em all the guns they want, but take away their ammo. And NASCAR, too, if they bad, too.

Kissing up to asshole bullies ALWAYS makes them like you.

Sounds like the NRA doesn’t like girls. But maybe it’s just a phase, the NBA is experimenting, finding out who it really is … deep down.

Jesus christ you could build 100 of the ranges I go to and have $60 million left over.

Lascauxcaveman August 27, 2010 at 6:07 pm

$61 million for a shooting park? In my nabe they use the local abandoned gravel pit (BYOApliances) and all it costs is the gas it takes to get your truck out there and back.

What are they doing with the $61 mil? Hiring naked ex-Playboy models to chase and retrieve your spent bullets for you, then massage them back into shape with their tongues so they’ll fit back in the shell casings?

(OK, I admit I added that last bit just see if I could Neillist to cream his panties via word-pictures.)

Harry should unilaterally re-designate the whole blasty-bangy park into the Burning Man National Monument and watch the endorsements roll in! Oh, wait. Hippies are de facto bindlestiffs, aren’t they?

Miss Kublik August 27, 2010 at 6:34 pm

Pfft. Not too late to tweak some legislation banning NRA members from the Clark County Shooting Park. Even better, tear down the park and build the nation’s largest Islamic Cultural Center on the land. That should be far enough away from The Most Sacred and Hollowed Out Ground of 9/11 for most people.

Howabout a “Recovery and Re-Investment Act” for bullets that wind up lodged in people. If you shoot someone, accidentally or on purpose, you immediately owe a million dollars to recover the bullet and re-invest in the program.

GreyPanter August 27, 2010 at 6:42 pm

Are you implying that Harry Ried voted for the gun range for some reason other than that it was the best thing for the citizens of the United States? I hope not.

Serolf Divad August 27, 2010 at 6:56 pm

Basically, the NRA was going to endorse Reid when they were pretty sure he was going to win. That’s pretty much how these groups operate.

WalkinwiththeKing August 27, 2010 at 7:09 pm

I said it once and I’ll say it roughly again. A multi million dollar firing range? For that price the targets should be able to shoot back on full auto.

[re=647578]user-of-owls[/re]: My daughter is hippy-ing it up at Burning Man (I’m so proud!) this week. How fun does it sound to spend a week of 100 plus temps. and baking Porta-potties in the Nevada desert?
I hope that Reid’s “Fun in the Sun with a Gun” park is far, far away!

The NRA is just a cocktease. I’m not saying that someone should dig up Charlton Heston’s corpse and rape it on a pinball machine. I’m not saying that. But if that happened, well, the NRA would have had it coming.

There’s actually a tiny bit of possible wahoo in this news. It’s not absolutely certain that Harry is going to lose. His opponent is visibly a lunatic to any neutral observer. That might not be enough in Nevada, but there is at least a slim chance he might win another SIX-YEAR Senate term.

Suppose for a moment that he does prevail. What might his attitude be towards the NRA?

Also, I’d be seriously down with a ONE million dollar range here in Tuolumne County. But this is not the sublime state of Nevada.

The Foundering Fathers were adamant that Americans should have the right to bear arms (or, in the Sun Belt, the right to bare arms). I think that every US family should be entitled to a muzzle-loading musket and dueling pistols as their Constitutional legacy. But anyone supporting the mania for magazine-loaded automatic pistols, machine guns and dynamite promoted by the NRA — as if being a cop isn’t a thankless enough task already — fails to push my enthusiasm button. To whit: Reid is better off not getting the NRA endorsement as long as his opponent doesn’t get it, either.

[re=647514]Chernobyl Soup[/re]: Yeah, but you were using YOUR money. What did Harry care? It wasn’t his cash, just Uncle Sam’s…. This is the first thing that AL Franken and I disagree on – even if Reid wins, he should be FIRED as Majority Leader. What a limp, spineless tool.
