- A Jacksonville, Florida, high school named after KKK founder and Real American hero Nathan Bedford Forrest voted to protect its name and all the white women forever. [Matt Yglesias]
- Meanwhile, Barack Obama wants to let thousands of white women needlessly perish. Help us, Nathan Bedford Forrest High School. [RedState]
- North Korea is now on Twitter! @U.N. will impose Twitter Sanctions in 3,2,1… [The Hill: Twitter Room]
- Rich person “Steve Schwarzman” insists Barack Obama’s tax increases are basically re-invading Poland. A good effort Steve, but most Americans don’t even know what Poland is, so next time maybe try a different angle, such as “no taxation without representation, burn King George Obama III in effigy,” etc. Either way you sound like an idiot! [Daily Intel]
- The Blagojevich Jury has requested several million dollars, because they’re not going to come to a decision for “fucking nothing.” Just kidding, but they did ask Judge Zagel if they could review some boring testimony. [The Caucus]

“We can parachute out of this motherfucking court house”
FUN FACT: King George III spoke in public sometimes, and also, like every other English monarch, had a of variety personal emblems.
Therefore, King George=Obama=Hitler=Jesus. QED.
Hey, it’s a Chicago jury. They’ve already announced that they won’t work Fridays, and soon they will tell the judge that they need to go to Maui to review evidence — and they won’t fly coach. And then there’s the Bears opener, and Halloween, and going to Serbia to background the Blago family, and maybe St. Thomas for the holidays. This jury might single-handedly end the recession by siphoning stimulus money — away from corporations that give it to stockholders who don’t need it, and towards consumers. Consuming, after all, is the only industry we have left. And when the stimulus dough is gone, they will hang and we’ll do it over again, maybe, or perhaps the d.a. will quietly accept a deal so Blago can be on a game show. After all, “crooked Illinois governor” isn’t so much a felony as it is a tradition.
Nathan Bedford Forrest High to become Malcom X High next election. Or Communists’ Martyrs High.
Considering this is for the Blago trial …
===
First, they requested a copy of the oath that they took when they were sent to deliberate the case against former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
“Do you and each of you solemnly swear that you will well and truly try and a true deliverance make between the United States and ______, the defendant at the bar, and a true verdict render according to the evidence, so help you God?”

Nice conspiracy theory there from Mr. Lane-with-no-y. The FDA will deny that cost considerations were behind the withdrawal of approval from a drug because because they are not considered; health care reform (and anyone who calls it “obamacare” proves their opinion on it can’t be taken seriously) actually has nothing to do with the FDA’s decisions on drug approval. Oh, but here’s what will and does actually kill women with breast cancer – lack of insurance.
Since taxes will still be lower under Obama’s proposed revisions than under Reagan, I suppose Ronnie’s budget was like when Hitler invaded France.
I like the idea one of Yglesias’ commenters had to rename Southern schools from Confederate traitors to Sherman.
So Moe Lane (his Craigslist pseudonym) from RedState is all up in arms because the FDA (i.e. not Obamacare, but who’s counting?) is withdrawing support/subsidies for a very expensive drug used in end-stage cancer that has serious side effects and is not proven to do anything. Well, that’s a great spot for a last stand, Col. Custer — let us know how the battle goes.
[re=640208]chascates[/re]: More Sugar!
“Forrest High got its name in 1959, when the Daughters of the Confederacy, angry about the Supreme Court’s 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision forcing school integration, pushed for the name.”
Oh, this is the best part about that Jacksonville school’s name. It was done specifically to give the name of the founder of the Klan to a school because of the Brown decision. Stay klassy, Daughters of the Confederacy.
Loved the comments from the Hitler=Obama. I especially like the ones that predict he’ll lose in 2012. Maybe he will or maybe he won’t. But if he wins again in 2012 I will probably laugh until scotch shoots out my nose.
[re=640212]JMP[/re]: God I fucking hate those disingenuous assholes at RedState. I hate them so hard. The argument is “under ObamaCare, poor people get less care than rich ones!”, which you know, is SO RADICALLY DIFFERENT from how republicans envision things. And you gotta love the “17,500 a year” statistic; even while he admits that the drug’s benefits are dubious and that it isn’t a cure, he then assumes for headline purpose that it has 100% efficacy. What an asspipe.
I suppose they could modernize things and change the name to David Duke High School. Tom Metzger High School?
[re=640212]JMP[/re]: I like the Avastin death panels for women with breast cancer, like this fool cared about women with breast cancer but no insurance. Avastin does sound like an interesting drug but if the panel thinks it has a better chance of causing “gastro intestinal perforations” than it does of helping with breast cancer then that might be a reason not to encourage its use by paying for it.
So, just to summarize for the kids following at home: when the government, in its capacity as the government, decides to rename a school after the founder of a terrorist group that brutally murdered thousands of people to achieve the political end of either reinstating slavery, or failing that, keeping a minority group from participating in civic society, and they do this specifically because they’re pissed off that they can’t maintain an apartheid system in the face of the law, that is a decision that we should all respect and understand, because different values, etc.
When the same people who made that decision get mad that a religious group wants to build a house of worship in lower Manhattan, because of “sensitive feelings”, etc. etc. we absolutely need to listen to them, because we don’t want to offend anyone.
And all of this has nothing to do with the fact that in both cases, the people who should have the final word are lily white, and the minority groups in question are not. And the mere suggestion that that might be the case is the real racism, here.
Seriously, just fuck everybody.

Bristol Palin And Levi Johnston Agree On Custody Arrangement
….
The agreement, filed with an Alaska Superior Court, states that Sarah Palin’s daughter and the aspiring Wasilla mayor agree not to “speak badly about the other parent in front of the child… or allow anyone else to speak badly about the other parent of members of their family in front of the child.”
They also agreed that they will not allow the child to visit or interact with any family member who publicly or in front of the child criticizes the other parent or the other parent’s family.
.…
Definitely workable.
[re=640208]chascates[/re]: Malcolm X, if there were any justice, Douglas.
O/T next shabbat, the 28th, Glenn Buck will be havin’ his “I have a 100 year plan” memorial of the 47th anniversary of the MLK “I have a
nightmare named Glenndream.” Aside, Stalin & Mao only went with 10 year plans, but WTF. Will our Wonkette have a team there live blogging all day and night long until Glenn Beck is dead or has raptured? Will Wonkette be putting Liz Glover and her camera out there with the interns in watermelon costumes? weejee and his bride will be up in Vancouver Canadaland for a Warshington buddy ghey marrying a BC budder. BC is where everyone is ghey married, but they haz the Tweet if Wonkette haz the Twat-on.[re=640208]chascates[/re]: That’s “Commie Martyrs” to you, Mudhead. And keep that bitch Bottles away from me.
My personal favorite on this “Lost Cause” bullshit is that Mississippi “celebrates” the birthday of the Sainted Robert E. Lee, and the birthday of The Evil Communist Southern White Woman Chasing Darkie [MLK,Jr.], on the same day.
“SHOES FOR INDUSTRY!”
I want to know why the average tea bagger, with an income ranging (judging from the wardrobe and dental wok) between SSA and $34,000 a year is so committed to defending Steve Schwarzman and indeed would willingly die to defend Steve’s freedom to not pay taxes. What is that?

LOL!
* gold clap *
“It doesn’t cure the cancer; it has side effects; and its beneficial effects are disputed… ”
Translation: the drug doesn’t actually work, but despite all that I’m going to insist that Obamacare meands the death of some 17,500 women every year.
Seriously, this is the level of discourse on the right at the moment. 12 of 13 FDA scientists reviewing followup studies recommended de-certifying the drug because IT DOESN’T FUCKING WORK. The drug was “fast tracked” because early studies showed promise, but when followup stuides were made, the showed that IT DOESN’T FUCKING WORK. The reason the FDA is considering withdrawing its approval of the drug is because it DOESN’t FUCKING WORK. And Medicare won’t cover it because what’s the point in wasting millions of dollars on coverage for a drug that DOESN’T FUCKINg WORK.
But hey… never mind all that. Obama wants to kill your mom with breast cancer, so bring it on.
I’d rather see graphic slaughterhouse footage than a photo of Glenn Beck.
[re=640225]Mad Brahms[/re]: Actually the Republican health care plan is how the Indian health care system operates today. Cash and carry. No insurance distorting the market. If you got the cash, you live. Else, die and decrease the surplus population. This is the logical end point of the evolution of free market based health care. And the present system provides too many opportunities for people like Rick Scott.
[re=640230]S.Luggo[/re]: better sell the TVs.
[re=640225]Mad Brahms[/re]: It’s so completely, baldly disingenuous it’s infuriating. The right-wing loves it’s conspiracy theories, but here it’s even more blatantly a lie than usual; pretending to care for the welfare of poor women, who conservatives doubly don’t give a shit about, all to attack a program designed to help the poor and middle-class who actually are dying in ways the reform is meant to prevent.
From the linked Newsweek article:
“Schwarzman is also angry at the president … for not having a prominent former CEO in his cabinet or inner circle.”
Not all of us can walk in the footsteps of George Bush.
[re=640234]Neilist[/re]: I recall seeing the phrase “niggerlovinpinkocommiejewliberal” in some States Rights Party campaign literature but I believe that due to oppression of stout hearted good ol’ boys by politically correct freshmen college students this has been shortened to “liberal”. The intent and the degree of malice are the same.
[re=640249]Ducksworthy[/re]: To be fair, though (I do my fieldwork in India) essential pharmaceuticals are one *hell* of a lot less expensive than in the states, though incomes are generally much lower and distribution to rural areas is problematic. Because of restrictions on patents and the willingness of the private sector to make generic drugs other companies might not due to intellectual property restrictions, it’s certainly much easier to get, say, anti-retrovirals than in Sub-Saharan Africa, for example.
And private insurance does exist in India, though the vast majority of people can’t afford it. I do worry about how the recent (since the early 90s economic reforms) proliferation of private hospitals and insurance companies will affect state-run healthcare operations in the future. The Americanization of health care in South Asia could create even more of a nightmare than already exists.
According to the blogs I read and the late night comics I hear, every American hates politicans. So, when 12 of them have a chance to put Gov. Hair in the Big House, they punt?
Fox News need to ask (but not answer) the question: “How many Blago jurors are ghost employees of the Chicago Park District?”
Riley: You can’t forget about Poland. Our entire mission in Iraq was based upon Poland.
Steve Schwarzman may only be the 50th Richest Man In America, but he can console himself today with the fact that he is truly the #1 Douchiest Man In America.
[re=640211]rafflesinc[/re]: The jurors all have to be residents of Illinois who have never heard of Gov. Blago or his scandals; so it’s no wonder they’re all morons.
Like, just to clarify how awful the Nathaniel Bedford Forrest High School thing actually is, it would be like if, instead of planning a community center three blocks away, Feisal Abdul Rauf (who in this alternate history is every bit the boogieman that right-wingers are making him out to be) had actually succesfully lobbied New York City’s mayor, (who in this alternate history, is also a muslim extremist) to rename Stuyvesant High School to Osama Bin Ladin Memorial High School. That is literally what it would be like. This is also so far away from what’s actually happenning, in terms of everything down to the power dynamics, as to be absurd.
By contrast, the actual “ground zero mosque” controversy? It would be like if a random Christian denomination that didn’t actually have any thing to do with the Protestants that did all that lynching, and were actually kinda despised by them (let’s say Quakers, or Unitarians, or Catholics) tried to found a church somewhere in the South, and a bunch of people hysterically claimed that this was a secret Klan plot to declare victory, and that they should relocate out of “sensitivity” to all the lynching victims.
As Steve King would say, hmmm. Tried earlier to post this but it got eated. Basically I said that I’d looked up NBF High’s sports name and was sorely disappointed that it was not the Nathan Bedford Forrest Lynchers. The mascot is, comfortingly, a slave-owning plantation master with a vicious sneer on his face. So there’s that.
The real reason the right needs to repeal “ObamaSatanHitlerCare” is that the “circa-50,000 needless deaths per annum” stat is an obvious metric by which to judge its success … & if it drops by even as little as 25%, someone’s party are sure as fuck gonna look like Nazis, alright.
PS: AROO! AROO! BREAKING NEWS!
Drudge Report signs deal to carry ads for Sarah Palin’s new line of human-skin lampshades – each one embossed with a crying eagle at no extra charge!
Yeah Steve Schwartzmen is an idiot and as par for the course a rich, selfish misanthrope. Isn’t it funny how concering corporate welfare the corporatists always claim Hitler? I remember when they were debating Graham-Leah-Bliley and some asswipe actually referenced the “First they came for the Jews and I did nothing” (I’m being lazy and not looking up the name and author for proper citation) poem as a reason to deregulate. I guess the subtext was “They came for the rich fatass CEO and told him he couldn’t screw other people out of money to line his pockets and I did nothing” Then….Holocaust! See the slippery slope, people? But I do love how the modern right loves to toss around naziism at the most inane topics possible. I love it so much I’d practice my love by hitting each one of them over the head with a tack hammer as an expression of my joy….
In Jacksonville’s defense there is a mostly all white school named after Stanton, Lincolns Secretary of War. They mostly just send the black kids to the schools named after the confederate generals…oh yes, there is also a Jackson (Stonewall), Lee (Robert E.) and Kirby Smith.
[re=640208]chascates[/re]: A Fireside Theater reference. You made my day, or a least a large imprint on it, like Stevens. In the NW. Also.
[re=640234]Neilist[/re]: And shoes for the dead!
[re=640262]S.Luggo[/re]: Interestingly, there are those on the left who are upset at Obama for not having a prominent former CEO in jail.
