Rick Scott Wins Contest To Be First Candidate To Cut Mosque Ad, Does Hilarious Pagels Impression

by Jack Stuef

By the voice and cadence and crazy words coming out of his mouth about things that have nothing to do with being governor of Florida, you would think Florida gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott is a dim paranoid schizophrenic like our pal Ernest J. Pagels, Jr. Is he? Who knows? But with this video, Scott has officially won the campaign ad-making portion of the 2010 Miss Bigot USA Contest. Congratulations! You have some stiff competition (Newt will stop at nothing!), but maybe you will take home the tiara. [YouTube]

Opportunistic much Rick?

chascates August 16, 2010 at 5:47 pm

He’s just pissed that he lost his hair so early in life.

Ground Zero would make a great place for an all-white, evangelical BIBLE BELIEVIN’ Church! (But no progressives or loud women.)

Johnny Zhivago August 16, 2010 at 5:50 pm

He’s won my vote! I’m sure he’ll also do something about the strip clubs and go-go bars in downtown Manhattan too!

Accordion-o-rama August 16, 2010 at 5:53 pm

With the mellow guitar background, I was sure he was going to break into song at the end. Hopefully an amanedes.

kenlayisalive_dot_org August 16, 2010 at 5:54 pm

I don’t know If Ground Zero is a good place for a mosque, but I am positive that Florida is a great place for morons to take a stab at getting elected to something.

Buzz Feedback August 16, 2010 at 5:56 pm

We’ve turned into a right lot of pussies, haven’t we? Good grief.

eyegoneblack August 16, 2010 at 5:58 pm

“Just yards from Ground Zero.”

Hundreds and hundreds of Jesusy, no Muslins allowed yards. And a couple of buildings.

kenlayisalive_dot_org August 16, 2010 at 5:58 pm

I don’t know if Ground Zero is a great place for a Mosque, but I’m positive that Florida is a great place for morons to rise to the top of the political dung heap.

And congrats to Harry Reid on selling out Obama on the Mosque issue! I mean, the republicans, if George Bush says we ought to torture children (and, I think he did) no one in their party make’s a peep. But our guy takes a principled, righteous stand, and it everyone for the exits.

They never miss a chance to froth the bubbas up do they. If they manage to get this blocked, and take it to the supremes, who will no doubt go along party lines and shred the constitution and okay the zoning of religious establishments, will it ever dawn on the fucking idiots that their places of religion might be next? I’m betting not.

Just a cleaner shirt this time?

Not_So_Much August 16, 2010 at 6:12 pm

Why does he keep saying ‘brown zero’? Is it a speech impediment or some code for ‘teh gayz’?

ella August 16, 2010 at 6:13 pm

What does he think about Target getting the okay to open a store in Harlem?

weejee August 16, 2010 at 6:14 pm

Just like the old saw, Rick Scott is the turd-in-the-hand while Michele Bachmann and Sharron Angle are the two batshit biddies with a bush. Or something like that.

SayItWithWookies August 16, 2010 at 6:16 pm

“The leader of the mosque refused to admit that Muslim extremists use terror tactics…”

So is Mr. Scott’s assertion here that religious leaders who make blatantly erroneous statements about empirical facts should not be allowed to worship as they choose? Because I’d love to see that put into action.

Unfortunately that’s not his point, and Mr. Scott — as a real estate speculator who got filthy rich off the foreclosures of thousands of American dreams — really doesn’t have shit to say about the sanctity of a fucking square inch of real estate that anyone should listen to.

Lionel Hutz Esq. August 16, 2010 at 6:23 pm

Wow, a year ago, we were worried about Obama and his death camps killing grandma because she wanted a flu shot. Now he is building a Mosque. I guess by next year the main complaint of Republicans will be that he won’t pick up after his dog…, just like Hitler and Stalin wouldn’t do either.

BlueStateLiberal August 16, 2010 at 6:24 pm

These are the same morons who scream, “Read the Constitution” and yet are the first ones ready to stomp on it. And it’s not “yards” from Ground Zero, it’s two blocks away, where a super-patriotic Burlington Coat factory stands. Opportunistic jerk like this one probably hates “elitist” New York anyway.

Midway117 August 16, 2010 at 6:26 pm

What the hell is “tere?” And since when is Ground Zero in Florida? And why doesn’t the Miami-Dade area have any of those traffic-light changey-thingies for their ambulances?

BarackMyWorld August 16, 2010 at 6:44 pm

So ground zero is in Florida now?

TeddyS August 16, 2010 at 6:45 pm

Let’s build a mosque next door to Rick’s house instead, because Flodrida is a real long way from Ground Zero.

BTW, why does a candidate in FLA give two shits about what is going on in NY? STATES RIGHTS!!!!

edgydrifter August 16, 2010 at 6:51 pm

At this very moment, known homosexuals are riding UN-provided bicycles–right in the middle of downtown Denver, USA! Why won’t Rick Scott (if that’s even his REAL name) take a stand on this issue? What is he hiding, and why is he sidestepping Florida’s most urgent moral crisis?!?

[Boy, amazing how handy a classic Catholic education can be, you know?]

DustBowlBlues August 16, 2010 at 7:16 pm

Is anyone else tired of this fucking mosque? Will I be targeted for calling a mosque fucking? If the builders of the proposed luxury community center (think of it, people: muslins doing laps in an Olympic sized pool just yards from ground zero) wanted to really change the debate, they could take all that money and put it into aid for Pakistan. Those are muslins who are doing far too much swimming.

SufiSaurus August 16, 2010 at 7:19 pm

[re=639777]kenlayisalive_dot_org[/re]: Heya! I just want to thank you all for not lumping all of us muslims in with the terrorists. I can’t believe Reid sold out to hatemongers to get elected. I am so disappointed in him. Basically what Reid said is that all muslims in America are guilty for 911. This hurts.

Just so everyone knows – there are plenty of muslims who are very liberal minded, who support gay rights and gay marriage, who don’t hate Israel or Jews, who love America and were horrified by what OBL and his ILK did.

All of this hatemongering about the Islamic cultural center is so depressing. It helps to read comments like the ones here.

Thanks

[re=639840]DustBowlBlues[/re]: Speaking as a dirty furriner, I don’t understand why the whole area wasn’t federalised and memorialised a few years back, like the Pearl Harbour memorial. That way, your govt would have much more control over what was built there and the issue of this upcoming mosque would be moot… I blame Bush!

Capitol Hillbilly August 16, 2010 at 7:45 pm

This is a good thing. He wins GOP nomination over much more solid guy with actual experience.

[re=639844]Bearbloke[/re]: The space in question is two city blocks away from Ground Zero. Even if the Feds had taken over the foot print of the buildings destroyed on 9/11, this wouldn’t be part of it. This whole issue is just pure fear mongering and rabble rousing. It’s disgusting. Christ, the ONE thing I kind of admired about Bush was his care to make very strong statements about not blaming an entire religion for the act of a few radicalized assholes.

THIS ISSUE HAS ME DEFENDING GEORGE BUSH PLEASE KILL ME THE FUCK NOW!

DustBowlBlues August 16, 2010 at 8:10 pm

This mosque would be like allowing white crackers to demonstrate against the guvment practically alongside the OKC Memorial where 168 Oklahomans died at the hands of Timothy McVeigh who targeted them precisely because they were government employees.

Wait a sec: let me check me check the archives.

Oh, damn. Boy, is my face red. The teabaggers actually did just that, a few blocks up from where the Murrah Buidling was blasted.

Blocks from the holy Trade Tower sacred ground is the Stage Door Deli. There you can buy corned beef, chicken oreganato, lettuce and tomato salad in vinagrette dressing, and Greek style roasted potatoes in a buttery sauce. How can Obama encourage these kitchen militants to desecrate holy ground, by continuing to sell this mish-mash of Un-Amerikan foods? Where is the Kraft macaroni and cheese that our martyrs died for?

[re=639863]Bearbloke[/re]: The Murrah Building in OKC was federal land already. The Twin Towers site was and is private land. Or perhaps it was owned by the NYC Port Authority and the Towers were privately owned. Seems to me there has been a whole debate about who gets to develop the site because of that issue, but I’m too lazy to check teh Google.

In any case, I can only imagine the reaction if the federal government tried to seize the private land of Ground Zero plus the surrounding land for a two-block radius to build a memorial. It couldn’t be done. The government would have to pay through the nose for the land, as I’m pretty sure it had to do with the land where United 93 crashed in PA, where a memorial is now going up.

Enslave the Whales August 16, 2010 at 10:29 pm

And, you know, I’m actually prepared to listen to objections from either (1) people who lost family or friends on 9/11, or (2) New Yorkers whose jobs or housing require them to frequent the area. (Listen to, not grant an automatic veto).

But few, if any, among the yammering class fall in either of those categories. In fact, most commentary from (1) or (2) is drowned out by the unfocused and dishonest hate spewed by assholes like Scott and Gingrich.

I have to stop myself now, but I will clarify my use of the term “dishonest hate”. I very much doubt that Newtie Patootie, or Rick Scott, or Sowah Palin, et al, really hate Muslims. I doubt that they know many Muslims. But they’re willing to act hateful, and foment hate among people who don’t know any Muslims, for the possibility of political advantage. They cheapen the human brand.

I guess what I’m wondering is how many people could have died for it still to be considered a, ‘Miracle’

Like what’s the cut off?
Would it still be a Miracle if only one person survived? That would be a miracle right?
what if the 130 people that, “lived” are all armless, legless and skinless? Would this be a little less miraculous? Are there degrees of Miracles? Like big M, little m Miracles?

[re=639841]SufiSaurus[/re]: Officially, over 200 Muslims died in the 9/11 attacks in NYC, as President Obama noted. There were more in the unofficial dead. After the attacks, there were a few papers who talked about the uncounted dead. The street vendors, the unregistered workers, who wouldn’t have shown up as scheduled or have filed their identities would have been overwhelmingly Pakistani or from Central America (and thus Catholic), so the actual numbers of dead are unknown, and the numbers of Muslim dead are unknown.

To credit “Islam” with the attacks is to elevate al Qaeda, to make Osama bin Laden the spokesman that he wishes he were, to agree with al Qaeda that true Islam is Wahabi, Islamacist, and in a peculiar form of jihad. In other words, Newt and his friends are supporters of Osama. Rick Scott has just come out in favor of al Qaeda. By saying “Islam attacked America” when a small group of a small group of an unpopular view did, it’s tantamount to saying “Buddhism is Pol Pot” or “Shinto is the Rape of Nanking” or “Christianity dropped atomic bombs.”

Besides, I can’t believe Rick Scott would say that, just yards from Ground Zero! (He obviously doesn’t know what it is, and everything is yards away.)

slappypaddy August 17, 2010 at 8:02 am

too bad more americans can’t get their panties in a bunch over actual important matters. for instance, their (our) nation is bankrupt, and a mosque being built just yards away from the sacred ground of wall street, where so many dreams have died, has no bearing on that. except that it will provide a few jobs for construction workers, which you would think would be a good thing.

why to the republicans hate construction workers?
