Has Robert Gibbs Been High On Liberals’ Marijuana?

by Ken Layne  8:33 am August 11, 2010

  • Hey wait a minute isn't *Obama* the one who loves smoking drugs so much?Obama’s talky person Robert Gibbs is in big trouble with the dudes who used to sell him dope: the Professional Left. Now that he’s safely in the White House and no longer subject to the daily drug tests America’s few working people are forced to endure thrice daily, Gibbs can point and laugh at the libtards for liking communists and Canada so much that they’ll even pay attention to Dennis Kucinich. Uh, but didn’t Kucinich sort of choose to help Obama win the nomination, in 2008? It’s hard to remember through the Fog of War & Fog of Bongs, but Kucinich did indeed tell his supporters to back Obama in the crucial Iowa primary. That sort of “changed” things, didn’t it? As John Nichols of The Nation writes, “On the day of the 2008 Democratic caucuses in Iowa, Kucinich told his supporters that if they did not have a critical mass of backers at individual caucuses, they should throw in with Obama as the most viable progressive. That was a critical decision, since Obama only narrowly beat former North Carolina Senator John Edwards, who was making a big play for liberal backing.” First Lady Rielle Hunter would be doing witchcraft in Spain today if not for this clutch Iowa assist from Dennis K., right? No, but Acting President Sarah Palin would probably be nuking Spain today, to kill the Mexicans in Arizona. [NPR/LA Times/Vanity Fair]
  • Still, the Obama Administration has actually done much of what it promised, despite this awful Great Recession and a wall of sandbags in Congress called “Republicans” and “Some Democrats.” Health care for kids, a big health care law for adults, “glass ceiling” legislation, jobs and education bills, stimulus, etc. Staying in Afghanistan and that idiotic call for more offshore drilling really is stuff that annoys the “Professional Left” more than “mainstream Democrat voters,” and most of the latter still love their Barry O, and he actually had a pretty good night at the polls, last night. (And Obama personally called Kucinich to plead for the worthless communist’s crucial vote on Health Care Reform, but who can remember such things, right?) [USA Today/The Plum Line]
  • Why didn’t Connecticut voters appreciate Linda McMahon’s very relevant and crucial experience running the World Wildlife Federation when she spent an insane $20 million to win a three-way GOP race to run for Senate in November? Experts say it’s because she actually ran the slob-entertainment company WWE, which is what the idiot wrasslin’ teevee shows are called now — but because sourpuss Linda refused to ever mention her career broadcasting garbage to poor Americans, we can all be forgiven for thinking she’s actually the daughter of teevee huckster Ed McMahon. • Speaking of last night’s quadroprimary, we liveblogged the HELL out of it, and you can relive the excitement (?) here and here and here and even here.

Think Linda McMahon would like to try a Celestial Soul Portrait? It would definitely bring the Dr Phil Power of Now Oprah Secret clan into her OOOOHHH YEAAAAHH club.

And Guantanamo being open is a minor thing that we never really cared about, and the spying wasn’t something we really wanted changed, and the whole “it’s a secret, and you can’t know about it” thing was something we only pretended to be upset by, and the “reverse the Unitary Executive bullcrap” stuff was just a slogan, and the whole business about “war on terror” being nuts was just an illusion we had because we didn’t get to see the “real intelligence” that was marked secret so that we couldn’t see it because we weren’t trustworthy enough to be in the unitary executive, and the complete inability to actually take on, tackle, and take down the Republicans and “some democrats” was what we were voting for.

Yeah.

Oh, and the whole “increase DoD budgets, no-bid contracts, paying Xe, expanding private contractor work and mercenaries” was something we didn’t really care about changing.

Sure. Gibbs has his finger on the pulse, alright — Dick Cheney’s pulse.

McMahon’s mistake was not creating the type of show America loves, one that either begins with “America’s Got..” or ends with “…The Stars.”

America’s Got The Stars might have been ideal, come to think of it.

[re=636370]Geogre[/re]: Thanks, I couldn’t have said it all so well.

weejee August 11, 2010 at 9:02 am

Does this mean Gibbs will get drop from Kucinich & babe’s holiday card list?

freakishlystrong August 11, 2010 at 9:05 am

[re=636370]Geogre[/re]: Dick Cheney no longer has a pulse.

But I’m picking up what you’re laying down. I’ve created an inbox rule for my mail; anything from Democrats currently begging for money is now forwarded to the trash.

Mr. Gibbs:
Nice gratitude. Who the fuck do you think you are, France or something?

Who are “the Professional Left”? Does he mean the cable news talking heads? The ones who are watched with fervent rapture nightly by less than half of 1% of the population? (People like me, I mean.) It’s not like they’re all that harsh on Obama, either. They don’t sing his praises like FoxNews sang George W. Bush’s, but there’s a lot of room for more criticism that they’re not making. Gibbs should be grateful.

freakishlystrong August 11, 2010 at 9:20 am

[re=636380]Larry McAwful[/re]: According to Doucheborough this a.m., it’s Olbermann and Maddow. He kept harping on how Gibbs says he “watches too much cable”, and came to the conclusion that they’re the culprits. Not that suddenly concerned and outraged Dylan Ratigan, and certainly not Doucheborough himself. Mornin’ Blow only spends three hours of prime time running down libruls, democrats, electing the grifter as the next POTUS and trashing the Obama administration.

chascates August 11, 2010 at 9:21 am

Meanwhile the Professional Left is busy trying to figure out what to do with Charlie Rangel.

Ducksworthy August 11, 2010 at 9:23 am

[re=636380]Larry McAwful[/re]: FuxNews was like CBN with W as Jeebus. Barry is clearly the anti-Jeebus. But whose their Jeebus now?

[re=636382]freakishlystrong[/re]: What Doucheborough needs to recognize is that the suggestion that there’s a “professional left” implies that there’s a “professional right.” Of course, Doucheborough, like most all righties these days, calls himself a “moderate,” as if Stalin, Marshall Tito, Abby Hoffman, Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow were all part of the same movement, so Doucheborough would claim there is no “professional right.” I’d like to know just who it is that Doucheborough thinks is to his right.

I’d think Dylan Ratigan would have tried to start a fight with Doucheborough, but if he did, he wouldn’t get invited back on his show again and bask in the company of such luminaries as Harold Ford, Pat Buchanan and Willie Geist.

Gibbs said what everyone else was thinking. Note: Blogs are not “everyone else” although they seem to think they are.

freakishlystrong August 11, 2010 at 9:37 am

[re=636388]Larry McAwful[/re]: Ummmhmmm. Because “both the left and the right have crazies”. Though he, nor the insufferable Mika, can ever seem to name one. Even when asked directly. Who on the “professional left” is as much of a facebiter as Blecch? Even their elected members are certifiable, yet, the false equivalencies go on and on.

I think that’s what pissed me off the most about the Gibby thing. Presenting anything left of the moderate Doucheborough as though we need drug testing or want to abolish the Pentagon.(??!) What?

[re=636377]freakishlystrong[/re]: Pretty soon we’re going to get e-mails from Sasha and Malia.

Larry McAwful August 11, 2010 at 9:53 am

[re=636394]freakishlystrong[/re]: Yeah, I know. Robert Gibbs is about a year and a half younger than I am, so he doesn’t remember the year 1974 much better than I do, if at all. And since he and I are of the same generation, he must be aware that the abolish-the-Pentagon crowd was much stronger in 1974, and has since moved on to open organic jewelry shops in northern California, or to campaign for Ronald Reagan. Liberals these days are not calling for the abolition of the Pentagon, the military, the CIA, NATO, or what have you–even though you’ve got FoxNoise incessantly insisting that they do.

Gibbsy’s been watching too much cable, I’ll agree: too much Fox. (We know he hasn’t been watching too much CNN, or else he’d be saying more about how we’ve got to do something about the latest missing white female hiker in some national park, which seems to be a daily feature on that network.)

Geogre August 11, 2010 at 9:59 am

[re=636377]freakishlystrong[/re]: Cheney’s pulse does not exist… much like Gibbs’s feeling for the mood of “the left” and “the professional Left” (or the New Left, which is old now, but still not Old Left, or the Left Behind, who comprise everyone Tim LeHaye doesn’t like, or the Left Over, who are the people who don’t get a seat, because they got there late, or….

Geogre August 11, 2010 at 10:06 am

[re=636392]mustardman[/re]: “Blogs are not everyone else?”

Dude, “blogs” are not blogs.

The very term needs to be retired. When I hear “blog,” I think of the teenager writing a web diary. For the most part, sites like Kos are political sites that function as political newspapers, and the magazine-tied sites like The Nation and Mother Jones online are obviously magazine and news journalism with reader input. The hybrids like Slate and Salon are online journalism (of varying quality; some is very high, some is very low).

These are just journalism and advocacy. There is nothing amateur or amateurish about most of them these days. They have active kiddie/crank input (like me!), but the Letters to the Editor column in the local paper has always been a hoot. Take their readership, their numbers, their demographics, and they are “everybody else” among “likely to vote” people.

[re=636370]Geogre[/re]: If you were angry about the NSA wiretaps but voted for Obama even after his FISA vote, you have nobody but yourself to blame.

People bitch about how the left has to vote for the Democratic moderate lest the Republican wins, but forget just what “moderate” really means nowadays.

sati demise August 11, 2010 at 12:11 pm

The professional left is the only group who wants to “take back our country” from the giant corporations.

Gibbs just likes that sweet, sweet corporate cash more than the American people.

Because they aint gettin’ any of that corporate love in the form of jobs right now.
All the while corporations are sitting on record amounts of cash while the layoffs/outsourcing continues.
And the increases in health insurance premiums keeps rising.
While food and energy keep getting more expensive by the day.

And if they keep getting screwed they aint going to go to the polls.

GOPCrusher August 11, 2010 at 12:53 pm

I will agree with one point. In the quest to be “bipartisan” Obama has spent way to much time being concerned with what the Faux Noise crowd thinks. It was apparent to everyone about this time last year, that it didn’t matter what the man did, they were going to bitch, moan, and complain. After seeing the antics of the lunatic fringe at the town hall meetings last summer, the order of the day should have been “Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead!”
Going to be a one-term President? Go out in a blaze of glory.

Dredd August 11, 2010 at 2:47 pm

Hey Gibbs …

Jack an Jill went up the hill
each had a dollar and a quarter
Jill came back with two and a half
do you think they went up for water?

Now that Iraq will become the number one oil producer in the world soon, do you think the war was not really about oil now?

Or is that a lefty thingy?

desertwind August 11, 2010 at 3:47 pm

Gibbs needs a vacation in the worst way and boy, the admin’s PR shop has done a super crap job all along.

Not to mention that, in the next election cycle the professional left is badly needed at the polls.

But, hey, really now, Professional Lefties… I don’t see Obama as significantly different than he presented himself on the campaign trail.

Rome wasn’t built in a day!

Ever since Barry, Robin, and Maurice told youngest brother Bobbie to “shag off mate, ya cannut carry a tune”, he has been busy planning the strategy that surfaced recently. “I,ll get even someday, somehow, with all the hippie scum left that enjoy that sad, sad rock’n'roll bullshit.
Barry only hired him because Bobbie has a forged American birth certificate like the Kenyan In Chief. Back to Manchester Bobbie unless you straighten the fuck out!
