Newt Gingrich Continues To Be Terrible On Mosque Issue, Is Joined By Anti-Defamation League
Newt Gingrich is very busy! Look, there he is, saying Sarah Palin will run for president! And wow, he wants us to explode the other two members of the "Axis of Evil!" But more importantly,it is his job to stoke fear over the proposed mosque near the World Trade Center site, so it is no surprise he is using that hate to raise money for himself. You know what is a surprise? The Anti-Defamation League is joining him in this hate.
Newt Gingrich is now fundraising off of his opposition to the Muslim community center in Lower Manhattan (the so-called Ground Zero Mosque), telling conservatives in an e-mail appeal to "Please SELECT HERE to STOP the Ground Zero mosque! Your decisive DONATION to Real Action will help us to RALLY and ACTIVATE all Americans, to TAKE REAL ACTION!"
The fundraising appeal...was blasted out to the e-mail list of WorldNetDaily Thursday to raise money for Renewing American Leadership Action. Gingrich is honorary chairman of the group and his spokesman Rick Tyler is its director. Founded last year to help Gingrich reach out to evangelicals, it is "dedicated to defending and advancing American civilization by restoring our Judeo-Christian heritage."
It is good to see Newt Gingrich is not being cynical about this. He KNOWS how important he is and that he needs LOTS OF MONEY to stop the building of mosques in the United States, which is HIS JOB.
When Salon talked to Gingrich's spokesman about this, he had a great response:
Newt Ginrich's spokesman told Salon in a phone interview today that building a mosque at Ground Zero "would be like putting a statue of Mussolini or Marx at Arlington National Cemetery."
Asked what the 19th century German philosopher had ever done to America, Gingrich spokesman Rick Tyler said: "Well let's go with Lenin then." Tyler explained that he was talking about Lenin, who died in 1924, as representative of the Cold War and ideologies opposed to America.
Not even going to try to make fun of the logic of this one. It is too hard.
Of course, there are others who know how IMPERATIVE it is that we hate people for their religion and try to keep them from practicing it. And those people are called the Anti-Defamation League. What?
We categorically reject appeals to bigotry on the basis of religion, and condemn those whose opposition to this proposed Islamic Center is a manifestation of such bigotry.
"Hah, I don't think you guys know what 'categorically reject' and 'condemn' mean! For future reference: 'condemn' does not mean 'join,'" said Pareene. Yes.
However, there are understandably strong passions and keen sensitivities surrounding the World Trade Center site. We are ever mindful of the tragedy which befell our nation there, the pain we all still feel – and especially the anguish of the families and friends of those who were killed on September 11, 2001.
The controversy which has emerged regarding the building of an Islamic Center at this location is counterproductive to the healing process. Therefore, under these unique circumstances, we believe the City of New York would be better served if an alternative location could be found.
Oh, we get it. Because there is controversy stemming from idiot bigots and scum like Gingrich about this, these Muslims have to stand aside. Hey, Anti-Defamation League, if the "healing process" is still going on, part of that process should probably be learning not to hate all Muslims because of what a handful of extremists did . That idea should maybe be confronted, don't you think?
You know, it was once controversial that Jews existed and lived among society. Do you think Jews should have just given in to and accepted what the people who hated them wanted for them? We should probably know what you think about that from what you named your group, but we don't. [ Salon / Salon / ADL / Salon ]
