Sharron Angle Should Just Quit Her Campaign

by Lauri Apple

Here’s Nevada Senate hopeful Sharron Angle’s latest vote-for-me mini-movie, “Right Here Right NOW,” in which she stands before a group of nodding, concerned-looking olds and tells them that “government is not the solution to the problem, government is the problem.” Yet she still wants to be a part of the “problem.” Is she not watching her own ads?

Angle seems perfectly content being part of everyday Real America. Look at how she lights up when she points to herself and says, “We the People.” Those words are like home! Her heart knows that she can serve her country best when she’s just “hanging around” like an ordinary person–down at the Kroger stocking up on Anytizers, Bagel-fuls and other patriotic fun-foods, or in her front yard sweeping up tumbleweeds, or at her neighborhood shooting range, experimenting with “Second Amendment remedies.”

Don’t get caught up in that Beltway lifestyle hocus pocus, Sharron! Just stay home — preferably inside your home, away from the computer, with the curtains pulled and the phone disconnected.

She went Jesus Jones on us? Now THEY had some staying power.

ManchuCandidate July 21, 2010 at 10:47 am

A woman on the radio talked about teabagging
when it’s already passed her by
Harry Reid didn’t have this to sing about you
you know it feels good to be stupid
I was stupid and I waited, waited
I was stupid and I waited for this
Right here, right now
there is some other place I want to be
Right here, right now
watching Nevada shake off “gub” tyranny

Mad Brahms July 21, 2010 at 10:48 am

So the opposite of “liberty and freedom” is “debt and deficit”? Somehow, I don’t think Ms. Angle did so well on the SATs…

Though if she did actually want to talk about poverty as being a form of unfreedom, she might do well to think more about, you know, the poors.

They’re no “Men Without Hats.”

actor212 July 21, 2010 at 10:50 am

She’s telling old people she wants to cut Social Security?

Brave woman.

Lazy Media July 21, 2010 at 10:52 am

If you let “We the People” run things, taxes would be zero while everyone would get $10,000 a month at their defense contractor/post office job, and everyone without a U.S. passport would be rounded up and shot.

Aguacatero July 21, 2010 at 10:52 am

Liberty OR freedom — pick one, we’re at war(s)!

Baby who ate the Dingo July 21, 2010 at 10:55 am

I hope she is wearing Preparation H lipstick when I vote in Nevada. She can kiss my ‘roids anytime!

KilgoreTrout_XL July 21, 2010 at 10:57 am

That entire audience suffers from a crushing addiction to gleemonex and freedoms.

Monsieur Grumpe July 21, 2010 at 10:58 am

Just maybe people who say they hate the job they are applying for shouldn’t get the job.

loquaciousmusic July 21, 2010 at 10:59 am

It figures that she’d name her campaign after a Jesus Jones song from 1991 — you know, the same year in which her hairstyle and pantsuit were popular.

I’m sorry. That was sexist. But still.

noodleman July 21, 2010 at 11:00 am

Back in the day, students at my high school complained about government, too … the student government. But we did more than just complain and then run on anti-government election platforms, exacerbating the problem ad infinitum. We actually abolished the student council and created an ad-hoc system in its place. IIRC the ad-hoc system worked well during my last two years there before graduation.

Sparky McGruff July 21, 2010 at 11:01 am

Don’t tell her to quit. If she quits, her poll numbers will go through the roof! She needs to get out there and knock on doors, if we want any hope of keeping this nutjob out of office.

Sparky McGruff July 21, 2010 at 11:03 am

[re=622167]Monsieur Grumpe[/re]: When hiring for a position, I always look for people who show utter contempt for the job and their would-be supervisors. It sounds counter-intuitive, but it saves time… Otherwise, it can take several weeks for them to fit in with the rest of the crew.

norbizness July 21, 2010 at 11:03 am

BTW, I’ve seen mental hospital patients with theories about CIA messages transmitted through the buzz in fluorescent lights that make more sense than her.

[re=622159]ManchuCandidate[/re]: Don’t forget about “Pop Goes the World”!

We the [white] People [in this room].

BOOBIES! July 21, 2010 at 11:04 am

When she told the nodding, concerned looking olds that she wanted to cut their Social Security, I hoped they tackled Angle and ripped her intestines out. I’d like to see a video of that on YouTube.

RPolanski July 21, 2010 at 11:07 am

Don’t they have any coloreds and Messicans in Angletown? That was one white, old, gray audience.

loquaciousmusic July 21, 2010 at 11:07 am

[re=622153]norbizness[/re]: I seem to remember Jesus Jones’s “International Bright Young Thing” as being a good song.

Oh, wait. I just watched the video. Never mind. It makes The Candyskins sound like The Beatles.

doxastic July 21, 2010 at 11:10 am

Sharron Angle is not the solution to the problem, that’s for damn sure.

She certainly supports the liberty and freedom of losing candidates to assassinate their opponents, which not many Senators do.

[re=622161]Lazy Media[/re]: You say that like it’s a bad thing. Commie!11!

Jim89048 July 21, 2010 at 11:16 am

She cut her political teeth on the board of education in the county (Nye) I call home. Which is why I’m surrounded by dumb fucks. A guy who used to work for me was his high school valedictorian. Let’s just be kind and say he wasn’t hired for his intellect, but rather his strong back.

I’m not sure, but she probably told those olds that she’ll be cutting SS for future olds, not the current crop of olds. They don’t fucking care about their kids, as long as they get theirs…

guangho July 21, 2010 at 11:16 am

@RPolanski there was an Indian fellow. No doubt he is the one they turn to when they can’t get online to claim their Soc. Sec. benefits.

Big Liver July 21, 2010 at 11:18 am

[re=622185]JMP[/re]: Yeah, seriously, is she the Provisional wing of the Tea Party Movement?

RPolanski July 21, 2010 at 11:24 am

[re=622188]guangho[/re]: Was he an Indian fellow? Or was he just an out of work Blackjack dealer sporting the tan of the unemployed?

Mr Blifil July 21, 2010 at 11:24 am

Q: Why do you feel you’re the most qualified candidate?

A: Because I’m the only one who perceives that the job is a relic that has long outlived it’s usefulness, and therefore if I’m installed I resolve to sit there like a log, day in and day out, and not do shit.

Q: Are you a middle-aged Black Woman?

A: No.

Q: YOU’RE HIRED!!11!!

If Sharron Angle is the solution, I don’t even want to know what the problem is.

Juan Cholo July 21, 2010 at 11:38 am

It gives me some small amount of solace that not all of the Republicans out here are jumping on her whacky band wagon. The Republican mayors of both Reno and Sparks came out in support of Harry Reid.

For what it’s worth – out here in Nevada the Krogers are actually called Smiths.

JMP July 21, 2010 at 11:39 am

[re=622190]Big Liver[/re]: Although even most of the teabaggers probably don’t agree with her plan to bring back the 18th Amendment. Which doesn’t exactly support freedom or liberty; the 21st Amendment enshrined our right to party, so we shouldn’t have to fight for it anymore.

Clancy_Pants July 21, 2010 at 11:41 am

Seeing all the fucking bobbleheads watching that tool I thought we was maybe watching the assembly line at Alvin Greene’s financial stimulus factory.

Manos: Hands of Fate July 21, 2010 at 11:45 am

I find this ad to be evocative of the Clear Pepsi fad that stormed through our nation during the presidency of Bush I.

Gorillionaire July 21, 2010 at 11:46 am

[re=622176]norbizness[/re]: Likewise. When I worked for the county mental health system, we had a number of clients who beam at you smiling broadly when they said things like “Jesus told me to try to drown my baby” and well let’s just say that Sharron Angle has that look down pat.

you didn't ask, but July 21, 2010 at 11:55 am

[re=622169]loquaciousmusic[/re]: Yeah. And being surrounded by the oldsters makes her look even older. Bangs can’t save the day w/ that face, dear.

This chick and her PR wing are out to fucking lunch. The oldsters nodding look like they’re on medication and would be agreeable to anything, the room looks like the rec room of an institution and she’s trying way too hard to look “vital”. Epic fucking fail.

Oh, and she’s saying some crazy shit. You’re no Abbie Hoffman, so just drop the routine, crazy lady.

weejee July 21, 2010 at 11:56 am

[re=622217]Clancy_Pants[/re]: Did they shoot this at the home and all the bobbleheads in the front rows came from the 4th floor. You know that’s the one where there are no buttons to push by the elevator door.

“government is not the solution to the problem, government is the problem.”

So elect me and I’ll show you.

S.Luggo July 21, 2010 at 11:59 am

Did My Sharrona tell the doddering Geritol Generation that her solution to the bad bad bad evil evil evil Big Government was to abolish Social Security? Bite me “Right Here, Right Now“, you perfidious, pusillanimous personage you.

[re=622160]actor212[/re]: Angle-bangle did not propose cutting SS. She proposed repealing it. Currently Sharrona the Slippery is proposing to allow people to opt out of the system. (And into what? Goldline? Mexican pesos? Retirement property on the glistening shores of the Mare Tranquillitatis?)Because under the SS system the generation behind pays FICA tax to support SS benefit payments to the generation ahead, money withdrawn from the system by those who opt-out will have to be compensated for by either increased taxes or cutting benefits. So maybe you’re right.

mumblyjoe July 21, 2010 at 12:15 pm

[re=622245]S.Luggo[/re]: You would think this would be an easy concept to understand, that if people are putting their money in “private accounts” that, presumably by magic, are economic cycle-proof, but social security is paying benefits out at the same time, this means whoever came up with this idea is counting each dollar twice, and shouldn’t be allowed to do anything with other people’s money, ever. Seriously, this is like paying my rent by check, then using my rent money to buy a new TV, but it’s okay, because the check’s already in the mail, so that’s taken care of.

Woodwards Friend July 21, 2010 at 12:18 pm

Then she led those old people in the burning of their tyrannical Social Security checks, right?

[re=622179]RPolanski[/re]: That’s because ancient white persons are easily bamboozled and will believe just about anyone who can speak w/ an aura of confidence. This is why Cindy McCain put CallBlocking on John’s phone, keyworded to the CallerID phrases “George Will” and “Richard Madoff”.

[re=622245]S.Luggo[/re]: [re=622259]mumblyjoe[/re]: There are some basic problems with “private accounts” in social security. First we have the prospect of privatized retirees who have lost everything. That happened during the Great Depression when company pensions collapsed, sending people into poverty or onto unemployment rolls. That trauma led to creation of Social Security.

To avoid that risk, we can require those private accounts be relatively safe and secure. That kind of “regulation” would chafe the ass of private account advocates. And it would reduce the investment growth to less than overall market averages.

Private, market-hosted retirement accounts would discourage people from retiring in a down market. But that’s when we most want them to leave the workforce to relieve pressure on unemployment. A guarantee like Social Security encourages people to retire in that down market when fixed cost items can be more easily adjusted – move, sell extra car, etc.

(OK, I got that off my chest.)

One Yield Regular July 21, 2010 at 1:19 pm

[re=622160]actor212[/re]: Really. And in Nevada of all places, where pretty much the only income possibilities for the olds are a) casino security guard; b) hitting the jackpot on a Wheel of Fortune machine, and c) monthly Social Security check.

mumblyjoe July 21, 2010 at 1:29 pm

Incidentally, in other “Second Amendment remedies” news, there was this guy who shot up the freeway in LA recently, on his way to attempting to shoot up the ACLU and the Tides Foundation. If you’re like me, you might be asking yourself “What’s the Tides Foundation?” And that would be, because to most of the country, it’s a relatively obscure liberal foundation helped found V-Day and the Pew Research Center. And that’s if you’ve heard of it at all, which let’s face it, is really fucking unlikely.

Unless, that is, you happen to watch Glenn Beck religiously.

When do we get to send the predator drones after this guy?

Never did understand the level of mental disconnect that someone has to have to vote for someone that tells you, that government is the problem, vote for me.
That phrase sets my spidey-sense to tingling.

JMP July 21, 2010 at 2:27 pm

[re=622333]just pixels[/re]: Nah, it would work perfectly. See, the people putting in their Social Security money into the stock market will cause the market to rise, making more money for everybody. Then, all each of those people have to do is convince five of their friends to invest their Social Security money into the stocks as well, and each of those five will find five more, etc. etc. Everybody will keep making more money forever!

Capitol Hillbilly July 21, 2010 at 3:55 pm

Did she forget to tell all those codgers about her plan for Social Security?

And what could be a better bequest to our children than a nice nuclear waste dump?

Last but not least, speaking of patriotic foods, don’t forget Hot Pockets.

[re=622326]RoscoePColtraine[/re]: You got that straight. I love how they’re nodding even as she BEGINS a sentence, let alone completes one or expresses a somewhat cogent thought.

The incessant, out-of-place nodding is JUST like what you see the paid audience do all the time during infomercials.
