Robert Gibbs Disgusted With You, With All Of You

by Josh Fruhlinger

  • But ... what *is* a TARP?Republicans who were hoping to make votes in favor of health care a defining line of attack in the midterm elections are finding that votes in favor of TARP are proving much more effective — which is unfortunate for them, because many of them voted for it. Still, it’s a healthy sign when citizens question even the consensus legislation that emerges from the political elite, right? “People would walk by my booth and say ‘TARP, TARP, TARP, TARP!’ But when you tried to talk to them about it, they did not know any of the details. They confused TARP and the stimulus plan. They confused TARP and the omnibus bill. They confused TARP and the president’s budget.” Uhhh. [NYT]
  • Even so, Robert Gibbs is all like “Oh, no, we’re totally going lose control of the House in the midterms, probably, unless you lazy whiny liberals buck up.” [NYDN]
  • The White House has assured everyone that the new director of Medicare and Medicaid will not bring a British-style health care system to the U.S., not least because he has absolutely no power to do anything remotely like that. [Fox]
  • This finanical regulation bill is totally going to pass any day now! Speaking to a crowd waiting to see President Obama in Las Vegas, a fired-up Harry Reid showed the sort of rhetorical skill that has made him beloved to all, proclaiming, “We’re going to finish that conference report!” [NYT]
  • The Democrats lost badly in the midterm elections, but the administration insisted that it would press forward with its agenda. A news item from the future … or from Japan? Eh, same difference, right? Have you seen their cell phones? [BBC]

If you re-arrange the letters in TARP it spells TRAP. Libruls wanna TRAP our childrens in debt. Debt is slavery for white people–just like the tanning tax. Nobama is making white people into slaves.

freakishlystrong July 12, 2010 at 8:55 am

I’m disgusted with us as well. Only in this stupid country would voting for a recovery act or reforming healthcare and a criminal banking system be used AGAINST you.

ManchuCandidate July 12, 2010 at 8:59 am

[re=615187]freakishlystrong[/re]:
And that is why US Americuh can’t have nice things.

Monsieur Grumpe July 12, 2010 at 9:11 am

The thought of Boehner being house leader makes my skin puke. Gibbs knows Boehner has this effect on liberals and is trying to scare them into voting. It just might work.

WarAndG July 12, 2010 at 9:14 am

I so hate me.

JMP July 12, 2010 at 9:19 am

Speaker Boner could be fun; after all, we haven’t had a functioning alcoholic in such a high position (who hadn’t at least supposedly given the bottle up) since Nixon. Think of the possibilities if he shows up to work drunk.

Herman the German July 12, 2010 at 9:30 am

[re=615189]Hopey dont play that game[/re]: What is so bad about the tanning tax?
It prevents white people from becoming coloured people.

Katydid July 12, 2010 at 9:37 am

[re=615191]Monsieur Grumpe[/re]: Well then, it’s totally awesome that the Democrats have been screaming about what a prick Boehner is since January. Every time I turn on MSNBC, or read the NYT or the Washington Post, there’s a quote from a Democrat along the lines of, “A John Boehner-led House will drag this country back to the stone age.” And half the time they pronounce it “boner,” just to annoy that asshole.

What? This isn’t opposite day? Never mind then. We’re screwed.

Prommie July 12, 2010 at 9:42 am

The people are revolting!

weejee July 12, 2010 at 9:47 am

[re=615193]JMP[/re]: And just what function does he fill, exactly?

MarieDeGournay July 12, 2010 at 10:06 am

I’ll be voting. Not my fault there are so many idiots willing to let the crazies who blew the country back in charge.

Manos: Hands of Fate July 12, 2010 at 10:15 am

American want jobs. But they don’t want their representatives doing anything to create them. Cause if they do, they will get all pissed off and vote against them for adding to the national debt. Of course they don’t actually care about the deficit, they care about jobs. Which won’t be coming because Americans will vote out anyone who adds to the deficit.

Yeah, it’s pretty disgusting.

DemmeFatale July 12, 2010 at 10:22 am

How do you say “Karma is a bitch” in Afrikaans?

Malketeer July 12, 2010 at 10:30 am

No need to kick up a fuss Josh, I’ll have your TARP. I love it! I’m having TARP, TARP, TARP, TARP, TARP, TARP, Baked Beans, TARP, TARP, TARP and TARP!

comicbookguy July 12, 2010 at 10:35 am

Can I have the the TARP eggs sausage and TARP without the TARP?

Redhead July 12, 2010 at 10:40 am

[re=615215]Manos: Hands of Fate[/re]: Our representatives are supposed to wave their magic wands and create more money and more jobs and save the defaulted mortgages but without adding national debt or inflation or turning us into a nazicommiesocialist place. Hey, Harry Potter could fly and Jesus did miracles – if we had good KRISTIUN leaders, they could turn water into wine too!

SayItWithWookies July 12, 2010 at 10:46 am

[re=615210]MarieDeGournay[/re]: They blew the country? Hell, it couldn’t've been that good if I didn’t notice it.

snideinplainsight July 12, 2010 at 11:00 am

Mark your calendars: today, July twelth, two thousand and ten, Ross Douthat published an op-ed column in the New York Times with which I, Snideinplainsight, largely agree.

Weird, huh?

Were you asleep during the glorious days of Tip O’Neill?

BadKitty July 12, 2010 at 11:17 am

[re=615253]user-of-owls[/re]: Tip O’Neill? Have you forgotten GWB already? Lord knows I’ve tried to. The photos of him drunkenly groping volleyball players at the Olympics?

proudgrampa July 12, 2010 at 11:27 am

[re=615199]weejee[/re]: Heh. You said “Republican Psilocybin.” That rhymes.

proudgrampa July 12, 2010 at 11:30 am

[re=615198]Prommie[/re]: Oh, don’t be so hard on yourself.

SayItWithWookies July 12, 2010 at 11:33 am

[re=615253]user-of-owls[/re]: I wouldn’t put it past Denny Hastert to be a raging alky either — I’m sure he could enable his colleagues’ pedophilia just as easily drunk as sober.

It’s the story of America:
Once upon a time, people were stupid.
They still are.
The End.

Limeylizzie July 12, 2010 at 12:13 pm

[re=615277]SayItWithWookies[/re]: The foul Hastert the Bastert has lost about 9 of his former selves , have you seen him lately? He is a trim ugly fuck now.

proudgrampa July 12, 2010 at 12:26 pm

I’m pretty disgusted, too. Democrats have about as much spine as a Palin Hookworm.

(FINALLY found a way to work that into conversation!)

PS. I won’t link it (NSFW), but have you seen the hookworm colonoscopy on YouTube? Now THAT’s disgusting!

Enslave the Whales July 12, 2010 at 12:27 pm

[re=615184]Hopey dont play that game[/re]: If you reverse it, you get “PRAT”, which is, I believe, Tim Geithner’s Secret Service code name.

gertrudis July 12, 2010 at 12:54 pm

[re=615184]Hopey dont play that game[/re]: I thought for a second you said “Nobama is making white people into salves”, like to rub into our open wounds ’cause we can’t afford health insurance and the ERs are full. I don’t think he can do that, any more than the CMS administrator can give us a National Health Service, but it made me think for a second.

“SOYLENT HEALTHCARE IS PEOPLE!!”

roseonpolitics July 12, 2010 at 1:41 pm

It’s been really frusterating to see Dems (especially in the Senate) not get the things done they said they were going to do during the campaign.

What Gibbs did say on Sunday is that they haven’t been forcefull enough on their message, and he’s right. That’s why Obama has been out there more recently touting what the stimulous has done. Hopefully this is a good start.

GOPCrusher July 12, 2010 at 1:54 pm

I underestimated the stupidity of the American voter. Who knew that by repeating the phrase “Kenyan Socialist” enough times would actually provide the Republiklans an opportunity in November? You would have thought that the last 30 years of fiscal malfeasance would have been enough to convince the American public to not vote against their best interests.

beezie687 July 12, 2010 at 10:45 pm

Don’t get me started… I work for a Very Large Bank in loss mitigation, and if I had a dime for every complaint I see that starts off “Taxpayers gave you TARP money now change my $600K loan into $700/month payments WHARGARRRBLE!” First, the program you want is HAMP, not TARP and second, you don’t qualify because your payments are $4800/month and you make $1500. Good day, sir!
