Episcopal Fundamentalists Declare Jihad On U.S. Senate

by Riley Waggaman

  • Some IDF soldiers did a funny dance while “on patrol” (trying to find flotillas to murder). This lighthearted music video makes everything better; it heals all wounds, big and small. [Telegraph]
  • The Episcopal Church is angry at the U.S. Senate for saying derogatory things about deceased terrorist Thurgood Marshall, who happens to be an Episcopal martyr. So basically the Episcopal Church, which = Hamas, put all Episcopalians on the No Fly List. [Think Progress]
  • If David Weigel was fired over a silly listserv, why wasn’t Dana Milbank and his Mouthpiece Theater shot by a Utah firing squad way back when? The punishment should fit the crime. [Matt Yglesias]
  • Here is your obligatory “it’s Independence Day so let’s pretend whatever Thomas Jefferson said about Freedom/raping slaves is still relevant” crazy-post. [RedState]
  • Hooray, one politician has pledged to be “civil in his public discourse,” so watch out Washington! [The Caucus]

Wow, a saint I would actually be willing to pray too.

WarAndG July 6, 2010 at 3:30 pm

That Pat Henry speecher sent shivers. When I get home I’m going to finally tell the king’s soldier housed in my…um…house to SOD OFF or die!

That Evening Sun July 6, 2010 at 3:34 pm

Snark-free question regarding the IDF dance video: Am I safe to assume those are NBC hoods being worn as headgear by the soldiers?

JMP July 6, 2010 at 3:35 pm

The attacks on Marshall are great, because the modern GOP is showing that yes, deep down they really do still resent the end of segregation.

Silly Matt, don’t you know that when someone’s a Democrat media professionals can say whatever shit they want to, but saying anything the least bit mean about a Republican is the worst thing a media person can do?

chascates July 6, 2010 at 3:37 pm

I love how our current political situation is compared to the 1770s! When these patriots take back America, what are they going to do with it? If Washington, D.C. is King George will we have a national capitol in Des Moines (or Wasilla) or just do away with a federal government altogether?

Oh, them RedStaters love ‘em some Patrick Henry — he and that Tory bitch Hamilton were the only ones who invoked The LORD and were sincere about it, as opposed to thinking religion was something you gave to the peasants to strengthen their characters so they could more easily endure the privation and suffering imposed on them by the ruling class that was their divinely-appointed lot in life.

Terry July 6, 2010 at 3:43 pm

I can’t recall the Episcopalian Bishop of Washington ever telling off Congressmen before. Bravo, your Eminence (excuse me if that’s not the proper title).

Oblios Cap July 6, 2010 at 3:44 pm

Waht is it with the wingnuts and their pledges? A “Civility Pledge”?

Fuck Off Assholes!

Oblios Cap July 6, 2010 at 3:48 pm

So Ewick thinks he’s this generation’s Patrick Henry, eh?

He’s not even close to being O. Henry.

bfstevie July 6, 2010 at 3:50 pm

The “bi-partisan” support for the Civility Project comes from Mark DeMoss, a spokesman for Liberty University, and Lanny Davis, a man long subject to the scorn and reprobation of all right thinking Americans who have any idea who he is.

Why would these guys want faux civility?

Some people deserve to be on the receiving end of a lack of civility.

“The punishment should fit the crime.”

Riley, stop posting this Alvin Greene propaganda, we now what you are doing.

[re=612465]JMP[/re]: Hell, they resent the end of slavery.

WadISay July 6, 2010 at 4:00 pm

[re=612481]Terry[/re]: Would it be fair to say they’re gay for Thurgood Marshall?

comicbookguy July 6, 2010 at 4:14 pm

[re=612468]chascates[/re]: Every redstate meetup is actually a dress rehearsal for the next Constitutional Congress, where the enlightened will draft a new document clarifying the intent of the oft-misunderstood original.

The fantasy is easy to imagine. Once they take up arms, the entire country will rally to their cause and the usurper-in-chief will be deposed without a shot fired. Hooray!

Then all of redstate gathers in Austin, TX to hammer out a more carefully worded constitution. They will stay true to their interpretation of the original of course, and only re-word portions for the benefit of those without their interpretive powers. Then they hit 6th street bars and taunt the hippies. Hooray!

With a special guest appearance by Sean Hannity.

None of this gets enough air time. Barton defending BP, Rand Paul and the Civil Rights Act, GOP Senators attacking the lawyer that argued Brown vs. The Board of Education, Sharron Angle calling for the execution of Harry Reid, etc.
This stuff cannot be hammered home enough to the American public. Tim Kaine is missing a golden opportunity to drive the final nail in the Republiklan coffin.

IDF Dance: I haven’t seen moves that stiff since Netanyahoo said with a straight face that he wanted piece.

Hey IDF…wanna dance? Here’s how to do it, bitches

V572625694 July 6, 2010 at 6:09 pm

“Yup: the baddest dudes and grooviest chicks are in the IDF.” Israel has mandatory military service, so it’s also true that the wimpiest guys and homeliest chicks are also in the IDF.

It’s so much fun being an occupying force! Why can’t our soldiers and Marines be so light-hearted?

Oh right: because they know their lives are being wasted. That’s true for the IDF too, but Yah-Weh told them to do it, so it’s okay.

maven July 6, 2010 at 6:24 pm

[re=612583]V572625694[/re]: Israel has mandatory military service, they are all kids around the age of 18, they would much rather be doing anything else in the world, most are left of center and would be happier in college than being forced to run around Hebron, and in fact, a significant number run off to India and such places after their service just to get it out of their system.
“Yah-Weh” and the like is strictly a Christian conception of what they believe “Jews” believe (Jews themselves don’t have that term). Most Israelis are very secular.

V572625694 July 6, 2010 at 6:50 pm

[re=612590]maven[/re]: Wasn’t mocking Jews, or even Israel. Just the current warlords in charge there, who, much like ours, seem to thrive on perpetual war. No offense intended.

zhubajie July 6, 2010 at 7:17 pm

[re=612468]chascates[/re]: Wasilla, please. Iowa is relatively liberal. (In spite of the false Stephen King.)

zhubajie July 6, 2010 at 7:19 pm

[re=612505]steverino247[/re]: I’ve been saying that for years. If you’ve ever been a working man, it’s been obvious for years.

zhubajie July 6, 2010 at 7:22 pm

[re=612583]V572625694[/re]: That’s where Israel’s Mafia learn to use explosives, etc.

Holding Out for a Hero July 6, 2010 at 7:22 pm

Wow, normally we Episcopalians only get upset if there isn’t enough gin for the cocktail hour. I mean when your church was founded because the King wanted to get a divorce and told the Pope to get stuffed, you pretty much have to live and let live.

The Right Reverend John Bryson Chane D.D. is a very impressive individual who actually does those things that Jesus taught like care for the sick and the poor. Oh and before he entered the priesthood, he was drummer in a rock band.

Yeah, our priests are so much cooler than everyone elses.

zhubajie July 6, 2010 at 7:24 pm

[re=612590]maven[/re]: What’s more, Israel’s home-grown religious nuts avoid service.

zhubajie July 6, 2010 at 7:28 pm

[re=612613]Holding Out for a Hero[/re]: C of E probably has most of its members in Africa. Their theology tends to be pretty conservative.

Holding Out for a Hero July 6, 2010 at 7:47 pm

[re=612615]zhubajie[/re]: Yeah, there has been a split in the church over the past few years even here in the US with the more conservative folks. The whole thing about having gay bishops got people’s panties in a twist.

Now we have a woman Presiding Bishop whereas 30 years ago it was a huge controversy about ordaining women at all. So time brings change.

maven July 6, 2010 at 8:10 pm

[re=612614]zhubajie[/re]: That is exactly correct. I get upset by these kind of jokes because these misunderstandings make it really hard for the peace camp. As “v” pointed out, its certain parts of the leadership (Netanyahu was a Reagan worshipper) that do these dumbass things (like the flotilla debacle) that keep setting peace back, sort of like Palin & co, they seem to really thrive on feeling persecuted and do everything they can to ensure the desired feeling of “the world is against us” continues…

Pat Henry was a special man, and Red State commentors will be the first to tell you this, and to shoot you dead if you disagree. Take Hootie’s contribution to the discussion over there, it fires off like an M-80 in your face.

“These men , our founders were special men. I believe they were hand picked and blessed by God. They were the right men, in the right place, at the right time. There is no such thing as coincidence…”

God bless America.

There aren’t enough internets to say how much of a lousy hack Dana Milbank is.

DC Hates Me July 7, 2010 at 3:35 am

The new Declaration of Independence … now with 80% more testosterone than previous declarations.

Geogre July 7, 2010 at 7:07 am

I’m an Episcopalian — the great Mugwump denomination — and I was pretty happy to see the bishop of Washington act like a bishop and repudiate that river of crap coming out of Sessions and Kyl.

Furthermore, Michael “Good Boy!” Steele went on to attack Marshall, and when his term as Entertainment Director of the GOP is up, he’s going back to Maryland, where he just annoyed a significant protestant religion.

Yes, they were trying to sing special tones that only the racists would hear, like Trent Lott’s “wouldn’t have all these problems,” and count of amnesia at re-election, but churches have memories, and I really, really hope that this affluent, apathetic church has some voice. Normally, when agitated, it gets fired up to say, “Oh, well, you know… it’s very complicated, so we’d prefer not to say.”

S.Luggo July 7, 2010 at 8:02 am

Trinitarians are a bunch of liberal cry babies. Charge the Republicans with your polo ponies, you Episcopalians. Chuke them with stale cucumber sandwiches. Scald the villains with Orange Pekoe.

Geogre July 7, 2010 at 8:35 am

Trinitarians are or are not, but Unitarians aren’t.

Episcopalian clerics are just the people pleasing people pleasing people afraid of displeasing people. Episcopalians themselves, though, are like the Democratic Party: an uneasy peace between groups that secretly wish the others would just leave held together by the weakness of the central authority.

I’ve seen priests swinging incense, hand building statues in alcoves, and swearing that there will be no emotions allowed in the walls, and I’ve seen priests presiding over civil unions and preaching about how cool it is to be in the church with a gay bishop. That they both call themselves members of the same church is mysterious. A British wag once said the three services are, “High and crazy, broad and hazy, low and lazy.” Today, it’s “crazy” sandwiching the haze.
