Sociopath Republicans Sabotage DC Voting Rights Bill With Gun Insanity

by Ken Layne  1:33 pm April 20, 2010

The (white) American Dream: shooting coloreds during the Apocalypse.
Sorry, Washington DC! Maybe you can have a voting member of Congress if there’s ever a black president or something. Steny Hoyer announced this afternoon that the House won’t vote on the DC voting-rights bill because the National Rifle Association got its bullshit attached to the legislation, thanks to wingnuts in Congress. “Sociopath Republicans”
“CNN Idiot”
“Idiot Republican Bobby Jindal”

When exactly did our Wonkette merge with the Department of Redundancy Department?

Katrina was simply a rehearsal for the Apocalypse.

Citizen Kang April 20, 2010 at 1:39 pm

I love how even the NRA realizes they’re so unpalatable that it’s akin to giving the black man the vote. Today, we’re all disenfranchised black gun owners.

steverino247 April 20, 2010 at 1:40 pm

Sounds like it’s time for DC residents to refuse to serve known Republicans. Don’t clean their offices, serve them food, pick up their trash, respond to their 911 calls about being ripped off by tranny hookers, whatever. They really do view you all as inferior to them and not worthy of voting, so perhaps withholding your labor is the only option you have.

ph7 April 20, 2010 at 1:41 pm

NRA makes a simple argument – Don’t give blacks the right to vote unless you also give the citizenry the ability to kill the black voters.

Lionel Hutz Esq. April 20, 2010 at 1:42 pm

Thanks again to Democrats, we will never know what an editorial meeting of National Review Online would be like if everyone was packing heat.

Those darned wingnuts. They’re the reason we can’t have nice things.

Troubledog April 20, 2010 at 1:47 pm

So let me get this straight. The net result is that wingnuts, staunch defenders of the founding fathers and Protectors of the Constitution, have ensured your continued taxation without representation.

Way more than a dildo mallet. Maybe a dildo mallet the size of a dolphin. Maybe.

I propose the Chris Rock Solution: let the guns in, but make bullets cost $5000 each.

DC residents should be allowed to shoot all elk running at large. Wolves too.

WadISay April 20, 2010 at 1:53 pm

Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch’s (R) oppose[d] it because his state would be granted an At-Large congressional seat, rather than a new district whose lines the state’s leaders could draw on their own.

Seriously, is there any imaginable way you could draw district lines in Utah that wouldn’t come out all-Repub?

Troubledog April 20, 2010 at 1:53 pm

Also it’s basically NRA “sweeps month”, they are building up to their convention in Charlotte next month. Expect more grandstanding. My love muffin Sarah Palin will be there. Ted Nugent, also. I’m wondering if this might be the last milking of the cows.

I think the Tea Party should be paying more attention to Goldman. Goldman stands for everything they hate. Except blacks. And gays. And women. And foreigners. And poor people. And muslims. And fetuses. But they sure as FUCK don’t believe in Jesus, okay?

ManchuCandidate April 20, 2010 at 1:54 pm

[re=560337]Troubledog[/re]:
Damnit, why do you keep using logic?

Next you’ll be saying that cutting the government’s main source of revenue, taxes, doesn’t help reduce deficits.

But actually, it’s a strict interpretation of the constitution if you’re a raving white entitled loon with a problem with black people.

Joanie April 20, 2010 at 1:56 pm

Ugh. These gun idiots seem to think it’s federal overreach if they can’t buy 18 guns a day sans ID at a gun show hosted by a national park.

Citizens paying federal taxes with no representation in Congress, on the other hand? Eh, that doesn’t matter. Who needs votes? Let them eat guns!

I_KILL_ZOMBIES_ALSO April 20, 2010 at 1:58 pm

Okay, are Republicans capable of doing any decent thing? I mean seriously, are they born with the Penis Head gene or something, because at this point, that’s the only thing that would explain it all.

PineyWoodster April 20, 2010 at 2:03 pm

Look, I realize that my sort of backwoods-liberalism thinking might be out of place here, but isn’t it at least possible that letting the residents of DC legally carry guns so that they could attempt to deter DC criminals who are already illegally carrying guns might be a good thing?

Just saying…

Diabeetis April 20, 2010 at 2:05 pm

[re=560354]mumblyjoe[/re]: Interestingly and ironically enough, the NRA had no problem with gun control in the late 1960′s when the Black Panthers were getting active, which just proves that they’re also craven hypocrites.

ArkansasFred April 20, 2010 at 2:08 pm

I dunno. The Republicans have some pretty good arguments against it, namely:

“ARROGANCE ARROGANCE ARROGANCE ELITISM ELITISM ARROGANCE INTELLECTUAL ARROGANCE DC INSIDER ARROGANCE ELEITISM!’

On the bright side, they won’t have to change the design of their license plates for another year. Unless they decide to secede from the Union — for which they have far more justification than Rick Perry’s little bailiwick does.

bitchincamaro April 20, 2010 at 2:17 pm

JMP April 20, 2010 at 2:18 pm

Thanks, Blue dogs; without you the Republicans would be irrelevant in House votes! Dipshits.

[re=560354]mumblyjoe[/re]: The NRA doesn’t mind black people having guns in the city; in fact, here in Pennsylvania they’ve pressured the state to prevent Philly from creating its own gun control laws; because they figure it’ll mostly mean black people killing other black people, and they’re fine with that.

whiterabid April 20, 2010 at 2:20 pm

[re=560360]PineyWoodster[/re]:

Our appellate court here in Colorado ruled yesterday that CU in Boulder can’t prohibit students and others with concealed carry permits from carrying their weapons on campus. That way we won’t have a Virginia Tech shooting on our hands. But I’m not sure most students care. There are expected to be thousands gathering on the quad today at 4:20 for the annual 4/20.

Extemporanus April 20, 2010 at 2:21 pm

Is it still illegal in DC to possess a loaded black person?

[re=560362]Diabeetis[/re]: Funny how that works.

Fran Rogers April 20, 2010 at 2:23 pm

Sadly, the current bill was probably unconstitutional anyway; giving DC Congressional representation will likely require an amendment, like how the 23rd Amendment gave DC representation in the Electoral College. So the death of this bill is probably a good thing in the long run.

meyotch April 20, 2010 at 2:54 pm

Manos, exactly. SLC is a deep lavender with city politics much at odds with the rest of the state.

I can’t say exactly what the district boundaries are now or how they’d be changed, but I imagine that Sen. Hatch at least wants to preserve the option of splitting the urban area into different districts to dilute their influence. An at-large seat might be a ‘gimme’ to the metro voters given their numbers relative to the rest of the state. Any Utahrd who knows district boundaries have any specifics? (Forgive the slur, we Ida-hos have to get our digs in now and then.)

Not that a liberal Dem from Utah would be a bad thing. Small independent custodial firms would enjoy a bonanza from cleaning up all the a’sploded heads. It’s a free-market solution that ‘right-sizes’ government, so it should enjoy broad support.

Well, I dunno, let’s try some of those other things mentioned in the Bill of Rights and see how it sounds:

Sure, it might be better if the citizens of DC had freedom of speech, but then again it might not. Seems like a question best left to the citizens of DC and their duly elected representatives in government, no?

Sure, it might be better if the citizens of DC had the right to peaceably assemble, but then again it might not. Seems like a question best left to the citizens of DC and their duly elected representatives in government, no?

Sure, it might be better if the citizens of DC had freedom from unreasonable search and seizure, but then again it might not. Seems like a question best left to the citizens of DC and their duly elected representatives in government, no?

I think there are some rights that are just fundamental and don’t get to be voted away, short of a new Constitutional Amendment, even if the majority want it that way.

Lono65 April 20, 2010 at 5:17 pm

Seriously, the only folks in the country who actually have the right to march on DC and complain about taxation without representation are already living there! Forget the problem with the gun control part, this is a shitty bill because DC only gets 1 Congressman, and the ever fair-minded Dems have given Utah a vote with which to cancel it out. Why Utah? Couldn’t they come up with a more white, ass-backwards state to give it to? Those fuckers make Arizona look good.

Fuck that. Full statehood and representation for DC (including 2 Senators) and not a goddam thing for Utah or get the fuck out.

One Flew Over the Wingnut April 21, 2010 at 1:13 am

And yet again wingnuts on the hill, so afraid of DC being an automatic Democratic seat, place something so crazy and ridiculous into the bill to cause it to be cancelled entirely. I have to admit, I’m curious about what they stuck in there…knowing how unhinged wingers are being, I wonder if it was some NRA bill to make black people legal for target practice…or gheys, something disgusting no doubt.

The teanuts won’t react negatively of course, they only care about fantasy “taxation without representation” to quote that idiot wingnut rapper, not the real thing. Plus, interestingly enough, the GOP is more popular with the teaparty then they are with….Republicans. Bush is wildly popular, 57% approval with the tea-wingers. This proves that A) the tea party isn’t that numerically significant of a voting block and B) they don’t give two shits about spending and deficits. I know this qualifies as redundancy, just sometimes the hypocrisy sickens me; you can tell I don’t live anywhere near DC where Newell, etc. has near immunity to wretch inducing hypocrisy.

One Flew Over the Wingnut April 21, 2010 at 1:20 am

[re=560684]Lono65[/re]: Not to mention DC I think either equals or has a larger population than the entire state of Utah does. As a once Utahn (not mormon, they throw holy water when I would come near…mormon girls really are easy if you’re non-mormon though) the Democrats actually offer to cancel out a new seat for DC by making sure some asshole wingnut fairytale pants wearing Utahn gets elected…fuck that shit! If the census gives new seats to shitholes like Texas just ‘cuz they reach a certain threshold, DC gets the same consideration. Now I’m not up on D.C.’s current population, I know when I was there last you all do enjoy offing one another in certain parts…well, nowhere near the capital where I was thanks jeebus. But my guess is D.C. should get 3 seats, not one and Utah can eat shit-flavored jello (trust me they would) and like it.

plowman April 21, 2010 at 8:15 am

That’s right, gun control is the reason D.C.’s streets are so safe today…

Sussemilch April 21, 2010 at 9:08 am

What we really need is an alliance of minority street gangs to wage a campaign of public support for the NRA, thanking them for the ease of access to weapons. Have them all join up as registered members and show up at NRA events shouting “Death to the weak” and burning flags in protest of limitations on assault rifles.
