  • POLITICAL INTERNET ALMOST FULLY UNREADABLE: Jesus goddamn, it’s healthy to be frustrated with certain legislative proposals, but more and more enclaves of the liberal Internet are reading like tragic post-op RedState diaries by the hour: “In the past few weeks, the two most famous and arguably most successful black men in America have taken a huge fall. It has become clear that both pro golfer Tiger Woods, just named Athlete of the Year by the Associated Press, and the American president, Barack Obama, the first black person to lead the country, suffer from a surfeit of hubris which has finally caught up with them.” To put it nicely: anyone who fits actual complex real-world events into this simplistic a storybook narrative should not be granted publishing privileges on Movable Type. Jesus goddamn indeed. Thank you, Jim, for saying something sane.

So I guess that’s it for black men. I guess the Jews (or Joe) are on top now. Any word on Hispanics or Asians?

Tommmcatt December 16, 2009 at 7:43 pm

What is this “Movable Type” you speak of? Some kind of masturbation club thingie?

Is there a picture of Obama and Woods in the same room together that is, for sure, not a photoshop?

C’mon, it must just be the same guy leading two, well three…er make that 11 different lives.

Michael Jackson is dead so with Tiger & Obama on the ropes I guess it’s up to Clarence Thomas and Michael Steele to be role models.

The Huffington Post has been retarded for a long ass time. I understand the non-liberals who hate liberals based on HuffPo and Daily Kos, because both sites are totally insufferable.

pampl December 16, 2009 at 7:53 pm

Wait, what the fuck is “surfeit of hubris” even supposed to mean? Is there some optimum amount of hubris they exceeded? Now that they’ve been smacked down are they going to be under-hubrissed?

Jim89048 December 16, 2009 at 7:54 pm

The TeeVees are about the same, unfortunately. Just saw a graph on Tweety’s show stating that:
35% of poll respondents approved of the Democrats
28% approved of the Republicans and
41% approved of the Teabaggers for a total of
104%
Sweet eagle mother of skyjeebus.

Canmon (the Inadequate) December 16, 2009 at 7:54 pm

Well, they’re both mixed race. Obama could be called the most prominent white man in America or Tiger the most prominent Asian.

Jesus H. Christ, thank you! Shame that it takes Wonkette to get even a little perspective. Yes, there will be disappointment, and I too would seriously like to skewer Joe Lieberman with a rusty screwdriver in his glory hole, but it’s just gotten completely ridiculous! The same five or six senators who were jerkholes before are the same as they ever was.

And, just to keep things from getting too serious: Sarah Palin. Also.

…a surfeit of hubris…. A what? “Surfeit” already means “too much.” Coupled with “hubris,” which means “excessive pride,” “a surfeit of hubris” means too much excessive pride, which is a redundant pleonasm.

Or maybe the author thinks “a surfeit of hubris” has something to do riding the waves on sperm whale secretions. Mmmmm. I could go for some of that right now! It’s kinda slippery when you ride on it, but afterwards you can eat it and smear it all over yourself. Yum!

So we’re wringing our hands because a president hasn’t delivered everything he prommised, is that it? Actually, Obama has accomplished far more than the previous two presidents by this point. Clinton had barely started on healthcare a year in, and it never got this far. And 3,000 Americans didn’t die this year in a well-coordinated terrorist attack on our soil, so that puts him ahead of Dumbass on national security.

So what’s the problem again — that we’re not done? Jesus fucking Christ. Dry your tears and pull your fucking socks up, Lisa Warren. He said it was going to take work. He said it was going to be difficult. And he said we would encounter hardships and disappointments along the way. Now there — that’s three campaign promises he’s already fulfilled, okay? I’ll bet you feel better already.

My wife keeps asking me why I don’t like Huffington. Between turdballs like this piece of shit article and having to listen to her BS introduction on Left Right and Center each week (which has, itself, become nothing more than a thirty minute zen-like Obama hatefest)… (Oh, right, HuffPo is called something like a liberal independent blog or some junk. Bullshit, she bought her way in), I just wish she would have stayed with the Republicans. I mean, honestly, I think these Kos/Hamsher/Huffington/Aravosis jackasses are really just in love with their own damn opinions and should any politician fail to take their marching orders from these assholes, that politician is a “sellout” or a “failure.” Which is itself damn rich. It’s easy to sit on the sidelines, ignore the parliamentary structure that is our legislative branch, and bitch up a hurricane from the sidelines. Seriously, get some skin in the damn game. From now on, any blogger that says, “I would have done…” in relation to legislative process, should be kicked in the jimmer unless he/she has actually held office.

As for this piece of shit article (sorry for the rant, my hate levels are bordering on zen-like these days), I had to keep checking my url to make sure I wasn’t on Stormfront because visiting stormfront at work could get me fired. I have to save my neo-nazi hate browsing for home.

In other words, nothing about our sausage-making legislative process has changed. I’m not letting Obama completely off the hook but considering the forces arrayed against him on nearly every issue I think it’s a fucking miracle he’s gotten Congress to push through anything he’s proposed. [re=480141]Way Cool Larry[/re]: Obama’s not much better than Dubya? Now you’re being hyperbolic — this is the worst president in the history of the United States we’re talking about here. And dug us into giant holes in every field you can name — so President Obama’s starting from a horrible position, which might affect everyone’s perception about where we are.

And yet, he’s already passed an SCHIP bill that was stymied for two years; he passed the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act; he’s kicking all the corporate goons out of the executive branch advisory committees; he passed a huge stimulus that (regardless of what the Republicans say) has created or saved a million jobs and kept the GDP from falling through the floor; he created a program to keep homeowners from being foreclosed on; he kept GM and Chrysler from completely imploding; he made TARP more accountable and toughened what was once a giveaway.

As far as projects still in the works, he’s closing Gitmo (no, it’s not closed yet, but the government just bought a prison for them); he’s changing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, at least by telling generals to ignore it rather than enforce it; he’s getting us out of Iraq, if not fast enough; he’s actually implemented a plan to do something about Afhanistan other than let it fester; he’s started on the path towards healthcare reform and reform of the finance industry.

And that’s just what I can come up with off the top of my head. He’s done more good in less than a year than any president in my lifetime. I for one am willing to keep donating, writing letters, bitching, and supporting him and the direction he’s going. I mean, the alternative is to sit back and let the Republicans run things, right? At least when the country’s moving in the right direction it can be shoved further to the left — I don’t want to throw up my hands and then make the next liberal have to stop the ship and turn it around before it’s going this way again.

[re=480161]OffTheRecord[/re]: Holy crap, and thank you. I wonder if it’s too late to get 2010 calendars printed up…

[re=480161]OffTheRecord[/re]: Either that or you can have them published as another posthumous Nabokov novel.

[re=480169]I_KILL_ZOMBIES_ALSO[/re]: Well according to FireDogLake it is all Rahm’s fault. Jane whateverthehellhernameis becomes unhinged at the very thought of Rahm whispering sweet nothings into Barry’s ear.

If I didn’t know better, I’d swear he stood her up at her senior prom or something.

[re=480165]glamourdammerung[/re]: I fear a lot of Americans, left, right, up, down, and sideways, want some kind of lightly disguised autocrat. They’ll end up getting it.

obfuscator December 17, 2009 at 1:53 am

[re=480232]Holding Out for a Hero[/re]: according to ezra klein, it’s not rahm’s fault, but not really harry reid’s fault, either. staffers in reid’s office were the sources for the “rahm was mean to harry and made him eat lieberman’s shit” angle because they were running interference and trying to save face.

reconcilation, anyone? i know that it would be a risky path, but the public option would be intact. you lose anything related to the private sector(insurance regulations), but a strong public option would require nothing more than a simple majority.

Two words: Glenn Greenwald Glenn Greenwald

That guy is the shizzle.

(OK then that was seven words.)

LowerdPeninsula December 17, 2009 at 6:26 am

Ah, yes. Progressive racism, the mean-well, feel-good type of racism. In many ways, it’s even worse than the vile, in-your-face, conscious racism. Good god. Truly, this is what it is and I’m surprised no one’s used the word.

5th Level Halfling Rogue December 17, 2009 at 7:35 am

[re=480234]obfuscator[/re]: Without regulation, any public option just becomes a dumping ground for sick people and will either (a) have to start acting like any other asshole insurer or (b) go bankrupt in about six months when no one can afford its insane premiums anymore. This is why regulation is the key to the whole thing and why reconciliation exists only to give the kos kids a ridiculous premise for their stupid arguments. This is also why the whole “nonprofit insurance” idea has failed in the past, and it’s also why the “them regulations won’t work, we need a public option” argument being tossed around by the kos kids is the even more Downs-laden half of whatever misshapen zygote gave rise to the reconciliation argument.

I_KILL_ZOMBIES_ALSO December 17, 2009 at 8:43 am

[re=480251]LowerdPeninsula[/re]: Are you sure no one used the word? I think quite a few people called her racist in the comments to the original post, and then you go and read some of the reactions around the rest of the interwebs and the r-bomb are a-flyin’. I think the only reason why “racist” isn’t said around here so much is because it isn’t imaginative enough.

SemiCharmedQuark December 17, 2009 at 9:06 am

[re=480122]InKnockYouUs[/re]: Yeah. Wonkette hates the racisms even if it comes from Progressives. Oh the horrors!

Final word, it does my heart good to read the comments to the original post, basically all of them blasting the hell out of the original author.

Or that fires burns.

[re=480480]S.Luggo[/re]: Thank you. Thank you for this. This is quite possibly the most entertaining thing I’ve seen in the past five minutes. It’s like, five tweets in and she says, “You’d be surprised at how many black people I know.”

Some of my best friends are black but…

S.Luggo December 17, 2009 at 12:22 pm

[re=480504]I_KILL_ZOMBIES_ALSO[/re]: Including Storm and Captain America, that would make 2.

Gumboz1953 December 17, 2009 at 12:29 pm

Now if that don’t beat all. Here we take the good time and trouble to slaughter every last Indian in the West, and for what? So we can appoint a President that’s blacker than any Indian. I am depressed.
