A new poll from Zogby (grain of salt!) shows Arkansas Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln slightly ahead of her possible 2010 opponents for the moment, but when people are asked how they would vote if Blanche Lincoln voted for health care reform, she is losing by double digits. Televised pundits and such will see this and scream about how Blanche Lincoln simply CANNOT afford to support health care reform now, IT WOULD BE POLITICAL SUICIDE!
We don’t understand how “Blanche Lincoln’s re-election” is anyone else’s problem but hers, or why we should care about it so much. No one forced Blanche Lincoln to run and get elected as a Democrat in Arkansas. She and Mark Pryor and Mary Landrieu and the Blue Dogs in the House shouldn’t come into Congress expecting long careers. Like COME ON. You’re in the South, in the same party as a black president, and the economy is shit… it’s *probably* not going to be a victory next year. Sorry! But don’t screw it up for everyone else, please?

V572625694: The League of American Voters, which is opposed to the healthcare bill. In one question, opposition to the bill went up after the interviewer offered the pollee (as it were) a rundown of the bill. Here’s that rundown:
17. Supporters of the healthcare bill say healthcare is a right and that this legislation will assure that every American has health insurance. They say it will lower health care costs and reduce the federal deficit. They say that anyone who wants to continue their current healthcare policy can do so and that it will stop insurance companies from denying coverage to people with existing conditions.
Opponents say the bill will cut Medicare $400 billion and cover 36 million new patients without more doctors, leading to possible shortages, long waits for care and rationing especially for the elderly. Opponents also say it will require all uninsured to pay $15,000 for health insurance or pay a fine of two and one half percent of their income and that it will drive up premiums for those how have insurance by $2,000 a year.
I don’t think anything more needs to be said about this poll.

There are an awful lot of us here that wish our Senator would follow the example of her namesake and take in a showing of ‘Our American Cousin’ at Ford’s Theater.
Oh, and the deal is she’s gonna lose EITHER way. If she votes to kill it, every Democrat/Independent even marginally to the left of Francisco Franco will either sit on their hands or write in lizard people.
1) it is a bad poll. The poll sample seems skewed to the GOP. If you look at the 2008 Presidential vote the poll says the sample was
32.1% for Obama
51.3% for McCain
16.6% for “Other”
The actual result was 38.9% Obama, 58.7% McCain, and 2.4% Other
With a margin of error of +/- 4.5%, there is no way this is an accurate sample, or at least 10% of respondents are being dishonest in their response.
2) She should understand that she is trying to stake out middle ground where there is none. No one outside of AR wants to support a conservative Dem. However, the GOP/Club for Growth and Freedom Works, will spend a sh!tload in AR to ensure that voters think she voted for the bill, whether or not did. She might as well vote for cloture, as otherwise I for one will see to it she has a strong challenger in a Dem primary. I won’t be contributing to her in the general regardless unless she actually votes for the bill itself.
Ok ok ok. I have a confession. I voted for Blanche in 2004. I know, but the alternative was worse, I swear. She used to be pro-choice which is what I mostly cared about then.
That said, 1. I don’t think that picture is very old at all and 2. Blanche Lincoln is just not voting for this because she, like our other representatives, enjoys the media attention. It gives her an excuse to pay for more hair curling.

Well, if I’ve learned anything from my pretend boyfriend Nate Silver, it’s this: If Zogby says you’re just a tiny bit in the lead, it means you’re actaully either WAAAAY in the lead or WAAAAY behind.
What the hell? They switched the candidates! The original question was “If the elections for U.S. Senate were held today, and the candidates were Democrat Blanche Lincoln and Republican Kim Hendren, who would you vote for?”, with Lincoln coming out on top with 45% (though note all the not sure votes). The later question, though, was “Knowing that Lincoln supports the healthcare bill, if elections for U.S. Senate were held today, andthe candidates were Democrat Blanche Lincoln and Republican Gilbert Baker, who would you vote for?”
What am I missing here? Where did Kim Hendren go?

4tehlulz: I know, right? It just goes to show how brilliant a politician Bill was. Though, to be fair, Arkansas did used to be slightly less crazy in its politics. The Reagan revolution took quite a few conservative Democrats and Republicans from untenable territory, to bat-shit crazy in like 0-60 in three seconds.

And we should all keep in mind that after this bill is voted on and signed into law nobody will mention it in the news or think about it again for years and years because the Energy bill will take up all the crazy batshit attention whoring.
Just vote yes Senator Blanche Lincoln or give up your own health care plan that I and the rest of the entire United States of America pays for you and your family to enjoy.
