Friday’s biggest political news item… is something else besides this: snow-topped O-bot Greg Craig has stepped down as White House counsel, following in the footsteps of such previous Great Recent White House Counsels as Alberto Gonzales and Harriet Miers. There has been speculation for months that he might do this. “Everyone” blamed him for bungling the now-delayed Guantanamo closing, because he didn’t prep the dandies in Congress with the steps such an action would require, and they resorted to NIMBYism, which was somehow Greg Craig’s problem. But maybe it was something else? Craig has not given an official reason. Fortunately, Congress’ #1 asshole, Rep. Steve King, has provided one for him: Obama wanted to bring in some ACORN goon instead.

Bob Bauer has a public record of defending Barack Obama’s relationship with ACORN. Bauer has acted as the agent between Obama and ACORN, and now he will be perfectly positioned to be tasked with erasing the tracks between Obama and ACORN. Bauer’s hiring appears to be a tactical maneuver to strategically defend the White House exactly one week after Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell raided ACORN’s national headquarters in New Orleans and seized paper records and computer hard drives that may lead to the White House.

Are Congressmen allowed to do this kind of thing? It’s just weird. Every time a Bush appointee left, I remember Congress and the press being like “well, let’s hope this one isn’t as evil as that last one” - they always were - but did Congressmen go out of their way to announce why they thought the new guy was an evil, horrible person 5 mintues later?
Wait, there’s a third Bauer brother, and he’s personally defending the President? I predict that he’ll either turn out to be a mole for the teabag terrorists, or heroically sacrifice himself sometime around hour 21 or 22.

Since the Catholic Church is planning to cancel all its services to the homeless in DC, I was thinking of stepping in with a solution. How about I drive a big bus all over DC, pick up homeless people and drop them off in some deserving Congressman’s district? Steve King would be a good candidate, but winter’s awfully cold in Iowa’s 5th District — it’s hardly fair to the homeless. Anybody have any better ideas? South Carolina’s 2nd? Surely it’s warmer there…

Sleeves: as in, told the dept of elections their contract field workers had collected some voter registration signatures that they (acorn) themselves knew were not valid. ACORN ratted on itself for this - even though there was zero possibility a single illegitimate vote could eventually be cast as a result - because that’s how they believe things should be done, by the book.
