Glenn Beck’s wingnut bitch is still, shockingly, losing in the famous NY-23 race — and this after a real-life campaign appearance from Fred Thompson and his trophy wife! Ha ha ha it is 49% to 46%, Owens over Hoffman, with 78% or so of precincts reporting.

The big city in this district is Watertown, and Dave Weigel is there, talking to its wingnut mayor: “SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. – I caught Watertown, N.Y., Mayor Jeff Graham, who endorsed NY-23 Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman this weekend, looking very glum at Hoffman’s election party. I asked him what happened in Jefferson County, where Watertown is located, and where Democrat Bill Owens is leading the vote… Could Hoffman still pull out a win? Graham grimaced. ‘It’s over.’”

Come on, ACORN, close it out!

When does Palin get to make her concession speech?

PabaBritannica November 3, 2009 at 11:50 pm

Don’t they just get to do this over again next year? What we really need is a crazy 4 way race with a wacky 3rd party candidate for the left (played by Zach Galifinakis!).

Hooray For Anything November 3, 2009 at 11:50 pm

I really want Owens to win because with VA and NJ going GOP, the Republicans are going to do nothing but preen and strut about their two big whopping off-off-year Gubernatorial victories and there’s nothing that’ll shut them up faster than the defeat of their Tea Bagging Hero.

magic titty November 3, 2009 at 11:52 pm

btw, Joshua Goldberg got pwned, 80% – 20%.

chascates November 3, 2009 at 11:54 pm

NORML.org sez med pot passed in Maine & Breckenridge, CO voted to remove all laws against up to one OZ!!!!!!

mattbolt November 3, 2009 at 11:55 pm

Odds on Michael Steele’s response:

5:1 – “This was the best result because man, was that Hoffman guy fucking crazy or what, am I right homies?
3:1 – “Well, the Republican candidate endorsed the Democrat, so, let’s call this one a push”
2:1 – “Who gives a fuck, there was no Republican in the race, can a playa get some apathy in this bitch?”
Even odds – [spins this as a win for the Republicans, somehow, I can't even imagine how yet]

SayItWithWookies November 3, 2009 at 11:58 pm

If this happens, then thank you, Glenn Beck. Maybe with a Democrat representing NY-23, they’ll get some of that public education that 45% of the voters so desperately need.

El Pinche November 4, 2009 at 12:00 am

I can’t wait for Billy Corgan’s take on all this.

AxmxZ November 4, 2009 at 12:06 am

I’d like to thank Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, and all the other luminaries whose tireless work on Hoffman’s behalf gave the Democratic Party two more votes in Congress tonight.

coochiemama November 4, 2009 at 12:07 am

I’m just FUCKING ECSTATIC that Susan Hutchison is apparently losing King County (WA) executive race. Woman grates on my last nerve.

jagorev November 4, 2009 at 12:08 am

Summary results: Democrats have lost EVERYTHING. VA, NY, NJ, EVERYTHING. EVEN GAY RIGHTS.

Tomorrow, Bbarack Obama should be stripped of his office and cast out into the wilderness.

hobospacejunkie November 4, 2009 at 12:08 am

Graham ghoulishly grimaced, griping garrulously, gripping his grimy, greasy groin-ferret. Because his carpetbagging, Admiral Stockdale analog, clown of a candidate has only helped republicans aim their gun more accurately at their foot.

MSNBC just reported that Hoffman has conceded.

CapnFatback November 4, 2009 at 12:15 am

According to a local gazette, apparently Hoffman has conceded.

President Beeblebrox November 4, 2009 at 12:16 am

Look, if the media had any shred of credibility they’d admit that Corzine lost because he was a horrible person, a terrible non-seat-belt wearing governor, and a former Goldman Sachs executive in a time when such folks aren’t really popular. And that Bob McDonald’s won because he is a fucking wingnut in the cradle of the Confederacy, NOVA excepted, kind of.

Instead the meme will be “O NOES OBAMA HIT THE WALL NOW HES TOAST LOL!”

Until the next political or natural disaster, such as a random Republican being caught in bed with a live boy or a dead tranny.

OK, this is priceless. From Erik, son of Erik:

In NY-23, Conservatives Win

The race has now been called for Democrat Bill Owens.

This is a huge win for conservatives……

iburl November 4, 2009 at 12:23 am

Corzine losing is because he is a sleazebag and everyone in New Jersey hates him. Simple as that. No larger message needed. Corzine radiated sleaziness.

Meh, gay marriage gets closer to passing each time. In 24 months, voters in two or three states will have approved it and then the floodgates will open.

Owens won? Ha. Beck’s robo-candidate was an embarrassment.

As far as referenda on Obama go, this one’s an A+ endorsement. The national race gave Dems another net 2 votes in the House. Who cares how the gubernatorial executive races play out, anyway? Nate Silver, the head Jew in charge of all politics everywhere, says authoritatively that gubernatorial races are not predictive of national party performance. Ergo, Q.E.D., vis-a-vis, we fucking won.

jagorev November 4, 2009 at 12:31 am

[re=449819]AxmxZ[/re]: the most amazing result of the night for me is how f*cking close Thompson came to Bloomberg in NYC. 51-46, and it was basically tied early on, when people were expecting a blowout. I’m not one to blame Obama every time a Democrat loses, but this is one of those cases where if Obama had even done a brief photo-op with Thompson (who had basically no name recognition) and said a few nice words, it might have been enough to push him over the top. Thompson had very little name recognition or funding or media coverage, and came within 5 points of the quarter-billion dollar Bloomberg campaign.

AxmxZ November 4, 2009 at 12:32 am

[re=449821]PoignancySelz[/re]: The best part will be watching the wingnut punditry spin this as solid evidence that Palin, Beck et alia simply need to just do a bit *more* next time, push a bit harder, and they’ll definitely get that waskawy wabbit next time!

hobospacejunkie November 4, 2009 at 12:38 am

[re=449815]SmutBoffin[/re]: After calling him a retard, an Admiral Stockdale analog and general cad & mountebank, I have to complement ol’ Hoffmaniac for conceding when he could’ve made it uglier with accusations of voter fraud, conspiracy, etc. This doesn’t excuse his inbred supporters, but at least he seems semi-honorable in defeat.

NotthatLC November 4, 2009 at 12:43 am

I was so wrong about how this race would end up, and you know what? THANK. GOD.
Suck on it, wing nuts!

magic titty November 4, 2009 at 12:45 am

[re=449827]jagorev[/re]: It was definitely surprising to see the race so close, but I assume the turnout was epically low, which would favor a guy expected to get mauled. It was certainly a ghost town at my polling place (the local synagogue, of course).
I did indeed vote for Thompson, after voting for Bloomberg in ’01 and ’05.

Sooo…Mayor Mike ’13??

SmutBoffin November 4, 2009 at 12:55 am

[re=449835]hobospacejunkie[/re]: Yeah, maybe you’re right. He was insane, but he played by the rules. Of course, his unwillingness to embarrass himself further will just be considered a form of betrayal by the ‘baggers…

AxmxZ November 4, 2009 at 1:02 am

[re=449827]jagorev[/re]: Yeah, but you’re assuming Obama wanted Thompson to win. He *likes* Bloomberg. Bloomberg is Obama’s kind of people: a super-smart fairly competent business-oriented centrist Jew. Obama is not gung-ho partisan enough to be psyched about endorsing a Dem when the Dem is displacing someone he actually likes.

chascates November 4, 2009 at 1:02 am

You know, it’s really strange but I just checked the pages of Drudge, Washington Times, and Fox News and there is no mention whatsoever of Hoffman.

The past week you’d think he was Jesus standing on a street corner eating Life Savors or something.

AxmxZ November 4, 2009 at 1:05 am

[re=449827]jagorev[/re]: Also: do you realize that this basically means Bloomberg owes Obama for not sinking him? I wouldn’t be half-surprised if Obama’s team checked off some ticky-box in a notebook looking at those numbers.

Fat Turd beats Hairy Turd in Polutistan, Virginiq proves again it really IS for lovers; it loves pain. NY 23rd proves you can only push a fat girl so far! Bloomberg proves once again that in a Democracy, money trumps everything else.
ps. anybody but me freaked out by the photo of the new 1st “Stepford” Family in Va?

finallyhappy November 4, 2009 at 9:22 am

[re=449956]ttommyunger[/re]: 39% voter turnout in Virginia- 74% turnout when Obama won. In the NY 23- the first Dem in 120 years was elected so it just goes to show Sarah P is working for us again!. I think she is Rahm’s secret weapon.

gracie November 4, 2009 at 10:30 am

May have concided with a semblance of dignity but not without a pitching a fit about the democrats being mean to him.. this from North Country Public Radio’s site.

“Cops debunk Hoffman’s “Dems stealing election” claim in Plattsburgh

Conservative candidate Doug Hoffman is accusing Democrats of dirty tricks in Plattsburgh. This from the WSJ:

“We just had a report that one of our pollsters in Clinton County just had their tires slashed,” Hoffman told reporters at his campaign office in Plattsburgh, N.Y. “So I think the Democrats are doing everything they possibly can to steal this election away from the 23rd District.”
Turns out, not so much:

Capt. Michael Branch of the Plattsburgh City Police Department said the incident wasn’t criminal mischief, but rather a tire-meets-bottle affair. “This was not a tire slashing—this was some guy who drove over a bottle and cut his tire,” Branch said.

The police captain added that he had personally driven past all of Plattsburgh’s polling places and found “no disorder, no crowds, nothing going on. Peace and quiet here in Plattsburgh.”

May I also add that seeing my hometown of Saranac Lake, NY mentioned in Wonkette is one of the proudest moments of my life!

Hutchison is Washinton’s Sarah Palin – a creationist wacko (on the board of the Discovery Institute until just before the campaign started) with zero government experience, who newsroom colleagues thought dim and referred to as “Lazy Susan”. Hutchison was the worst Washington candidate since Ellen Craswell.
