14th Street Wins The Gentrification Wars and Oh, Yeah It’s Halloween

by Arielle Fleisher

Today through Sunday, November 22: While everyone else is selfishly eating candy and putting together super creative costumes for Halloween, Rosa Mexicana is using the day to honor the dead, because that’s what they do in Mexico. The restaurant has put together a special menu for the occasion, including such delicacies as pumpkin margaritas and stews with duck and other tasty animals.  [Day of the Dead Celebration]

  • Saturday, October 31: It’s Halloween. Do everything listed here.
  • Sunday, November 1: Buy pie and save America. It’s that easy and it will only cost you $34.99! [Slice of Life Pie Sale]
  • New Food: DC is now home to the (self-proclaimed) World’s Best Philly Cheesesteaks, a new burger joint (because there are certainly a lack of those in the District), as well a contemporary Irish gastropub, Againn, which is Galeic for “with us.” The more you know. [JJ's Cheesesteaks, The Burger Joint, Againn]
  • Food To Look Forward To: 14th Street continues to outpace Columbia Heights as the most up and coming neighborhood in the District. Proof? It will soon be home to a crepe place (The French have mastered gentrification) and a restaurant that serves upscale slushies. [Crepes on the Corner, Estadio]

Dude. When I was in college, I got a bunch of Grateful Dead t-shirts at a massive discount when a head shop went bankrupt. I had much better dancin’ skeleton t-shirts than that. That’s when I realized failed captialism is good.
