Yesterday the websites were very upset with Alan Grayson for calling some some Bernanke staffer a “K Street Whore.” Because yeah yeah, he’s a loose cannon and it’s like soo crazy or whatever, but “whore”? Well apparently it’s a term that’s often “correctly” viewed as offensive to women, he… deadpans? “I offer my sincere apology. I did not intend to use a term that is often, and correctly, seen as disrespectful of women.”

Then Anthony Weiner was forced to apologize to Grayson for calling him “one fry short of a Happy Meal”:

“Alan Grayson is a friend and an extraordinary member of Congress. No obviously playful comment from me should distract from the important role Rep. Grayson has played in focusing on the true and tragic costs of our broken health care system. He is a leader and a patriot.”

“French fries” is a term that is often, and correctly, seen as disrespectful to Alan Grayson.

  1. I thought “whore” was specifically disrespectful of prostitutes and other kinds of lobbyists. Again I learned something new today!

Now I want a Happy Meal.

  2. Erm, Juli, it’s “loose cannon.” Loose canon would be like when The Fountainhead is incorporated into The Modern Library and actually taught as a regular read in high school/college. Which is to say, never.

  3. [re=445175]queeraselvis v 2.0[/re]: It’s coming, actually: shortly after the Everyman edition of the Complete Ken Wilber (eighty-four volumes) and the Viking Portable Art Bell (comes wrapped in til foil you can refold into a hat)

  4. Wait, I’m confused–are we banning French fries again in the Capital cafeteria? Is Alan Grayson French…my God, that explains everything!

  5. Salon ran the “K-street whore” story and was critical of Grayson, and the commenters (except for 2 or 3) were piiiiiissssed at the author (yes, I posted). I know at least one of them called Weiner’s office to say “shame on you, you big fat coward, and I’m sending my campaign donation to Grayson instead of you.”

  6. now… if it turns out she actually fucked flabby old congress dudes or their nubile staffers to get votes… then he can un-apologize. Paging Larry Flint.

  7. He’s right. Whores do it “often” and “correctly” except when they do it incorrectly. At which point you have to pay them a little extra.

  8. As an extraordinary member living on F street, I am shocked, shocked by the capitol letter prejudice in this affair. I can ho it up through a range of letters.

  9. [re=445196]CaiteeCruelle[/re]: That’s a heartening story. Propaganda is a motherfucking battlefield. Ain’t no time for balance when the future of God’s America is at stake.

  10. He should have gone with “fluffer”. That would have skirted the entire controversy caused by the word “whore” which can refer to a person of low morals as well as a sex worker. A fluffer, on the other hand, is just slurping genitalia for the cash.

    A fluffer for big oil….
See, it just rolls off the tongue.

  11. [re=445214]dijetlo[/re]: Plus using fluffer would create a teachable moment for the prudish wingtards, many of whom did not know an alternate meaning of teabagging/teabagger.

  12. I am a full fledged libtard. Nonetheless, I feel the need to call out Mr. Grayson a bandwagon jumping douche. You can just see his wheels turning…”Gee, Joe Wilson got millions for yellin’ at the President. If I become the Left’s flamethrower, I too could move from back bencher to the big bucks!”

  13. I agree with Egregious. I applauded Grayson for being a loud jerk on the floow of the House becasue he was saying what we are were thinking, but this kind of thing just distracts. I like a firebrand but not, what appears to be a sexist bully.

  14. Quick somebody get me a fainting couch a Democrat said something slightly colorful.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming: Republican congressmen calls everyone he disagrees with a Nazi cannibal child rapist. Ho hum.

  15. [re=445167]freakishlystrong[/re]: exactly I never saw a problem. Lobbyist and whore are pretty much interchangeable no matter how they dress. This one just happens to be a female.

  16. where’s the rest of the story? there needs to be more reporting done: is the lobbyist an actual prostitute or not? is there a slutty k-street version of tila tequila? or is she a coke whore?

  18. [re=445305]Terry[/re]: Heh. And a “lose canon” would be the Discount Wingnut Book Section at your friendly neighborhood Sam’s Club, n’est-ce pas?

  19. [re=445241]mush[/re]: He looks different in person- his hair isn’t so dark and his face is thinner. Also there was no American flag waving behind him when I met him.

  20. Okay, somebody please separate these two incidents and ‘splain the difference.

    (1) A hooker engages a john and does a job and receives payment (“campaign contributions”).

    (2) A legislator engages a lobbyist and does a job and receives payment (“campaign contributions”)

    Go ahead.

  21. [re=445292]BlackEuro.Observer[/re]: Hear, hear! The term “whore” has become quite popular for describing both men and women — for example Jon Goslin and the father of Balloon Boy are both “fame whores.” The only problem with Grayson’s characterization is that he forgot to mention that before the staffer became a K-Street whore, he was a whore for Enron.

  22. The following just occurred to me, too: did the lobbyist herself ever complain about this, either at the time or just now when Politico publicized the story? If not…

Nope, getting pissed-off and unironic again. Stopping here.

  23. I guess teh N.O.W. made him apologize, those floozies. They have no sense of humor.
I say to them, ‘context, ladies!’.

Grayson was certainly right according to:
[re=445292]BlackEuro.Observer[/re]: this was NOT a sexist statement.

  24. Wasn’t this the same microdick that said highlighting the dumb things Congressmen do for laffs has a corrosive effect on politics? Or is that only when Jon Stewart does it?

  25. Anyone notice Rep. Grayson is trying to get some of that Liberterian / Ron Paul / Money Bomb action by bashing the fed. Probably won’t work. Don’t think the force is with him.

  26. It’s not that he thinks anyone is a “whore”. He’s just drawing attention to the fact that they’re cheap sluts who will do anything, include tawdry sexual acts, for money. But he meant it in a good way.

A Happy Mean and a happy ending. Who could ask for anything more?
