Yesterday the websites were very upset with Alan Grayson for calling some some Bernanke staffer a “K Street Whore.” Because yeah yeah, he’s a loose cannon and it’s like soo crazy or whatever, but “whore”? Well apparently it’s a term that’s often “correctly” viewed as offensive to women, he… deadpans? “I offer my sincere apology. I did not intend to use a term that is often, and correctly, seen as disrespectful of women.”
Then Anthony Weiner was forced to apologize to Grayson for calling him “one fry short of a Happy Meal”:
“Alan Grayson is a friend and an extraordinary member of Congress. No obviously playful comment from me should distract from the important role Rep. Grayson has played in focusing on the true and tragic costs of our broken health care system. He is a leader and a patriot.”
“French fries” is a term that is often, and correctly, seen as disrespectful to Alan Grayson.

Salon ran the “K-street whore” story and was critical of Grayson, and the commenters (except for 2 or 3) were piiiiiissssed at the author (yes, I posted). I know at least one of them called Weiner’s office to say “shame on you, you big fat coward, and I’m sending my campaign donation to Grayson instead of you.”
Get with the program Alan, the correct phrase would be “K-Street Ho”.

He should have gone with “fluffer”. That would have skirted the entire controversy caused by the word “whore” which can refer to a person of low morals as well as a sex worker. A fluffer, on the other hand, is just slurping genitalia for the cash.

I agree with Egregious. I applauded Grayson for being a loud jerk on the floow of the House becasue he was saying what we are were thinking, but this kind of thing just distracts. I like a firebrand but not, what appears to be a sexist bully.

Lobbyists sell their credibility and identity for money. Prostitutes sell their bodies for money. Totally different things.

The term “whore” has become quite popular for describing both men and women — for example Jon Goslin and the father of Balloon Boy are both “fame whores.” The only problem with Grayson’s characterization is that he forgot to mention that before the staffer became a K-Street whore, he was a whore for Enron.

It’s not that he thinks anyone is a “whore”. He’s just drawing attention to the fact that they’re cheap sluts who will do anything, include tawdry sexual acts, for money. But he meant it in a good way.
