Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani — the only mayor in American history to have commercial airplanes take down his city’s two most prominent buildings — is now “thtumping” for Mayor Bloomberg in New York City in his campaign against Democrat Bill Thompson. Did you know that Bill Thompson is black, old Jewish people? Rudy fears a return to the New York of old — “You know exactly what I’m talking about.”
Raising the specter of a return to higher crime and greater anxiety, former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani warned on Sunday that New York could become a more dangerous city if Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg is not re-elected in November.
Mr. Giuliani did not mention Mr. Bloomberg’s Democratic challenger, William C. Thompson Jr., by name. But during the first of two campaign events alongside Mr. Bloomberg, he said that not long ago many parts of the city were gripped by “the fear of going out at night and walking the streets.”
“You know exactly what I’m talking about,” Mr. Giuliani said at a breakfast sponsored by the Jewish Community Council in Borough Park, Brooklyn. “This city could very easily be taken back in a very different direction — it could very easily be taken back to the way it was with the wrong political leadership.”
Okay so it’s not like, “I use the N-word all the time because of my racial superiority theories”-type racist, but based on Rudy’s history — 4% approval rating among black people! — he is more or less always speaking in code about black people, or muslins. Is Bill Thompson muslin too?

You’re all overreacting. Rudy hates blacks and Jews equally. He’s just trying to get them to kill each other, in the hopes of a)reducing congestion in NYC, b)re-electing Bloomberg and c)paving the way for him to win the NY gubernatorial race. That way, Rudy defeats not only Patterson, but EVERYONE. The only drawback is that a good day for Rudy is a bad day for earth.
I used to have some work connections with the Jewish Community Council of Boro Park. It’s not old Jews who are creaming all over him, it’s super crazy off the charts racists xenophobic Chassidic Jews.. I think Rudy would like to bring back the Crown Heights craziness that was so wonderful in the NYC days of old.

Y’know what I hate? Rudy getting all the credit for New York being safer. The crime rate dropped considerably under Dinkins’ watch, which can partially be attributed to the police tactics adopted by the police commissioner Dinkins hired (and Rudy ran off). The rest was just demographic and economic change that led to a large drop in crime rates everywhere. Oh, and the crime rate continued dropping after Rudy left office.

I don’t know why Bloomberg is bothering to pay Giuliani to campaign for him. Bill Thompson isn’t even ADVERTISING as far as I can tell, while I get 2 or 3 Bloomberg mailers a week and his commercials are on TV all the time.
Rudolph Giuliani doesn’t want a return to the “old days,” he’s as tired of Giuliani Time as any of us.

To be perfectly fair, it’s unclear whether he’s talking about black people or Democrat mayors.
So, it’s unfair to say that it was definitely thinly-veiled racism. An equally likely explanation is that he was simply injecting unnecessary and inappropriate Republican partisanship into a mayoral race between an Independant and Democrat, both moderates. See, doesn’t that sound *much* more appealing?

Woe is the Democrat that has to run for the Mayor (Autocrat) of the City of New York. It’s really a lost cause. To be sure, though, there is no such thing as a New York City Republican in the traditional sense, anymore. The national Republican Party simply fields a business (Wall Street) party in New York, and stamps their name on it.
