Switzerland Is Feeling Just “Ehh” About Its Neutrality Lately, You Know?

  • In March, Obama will be sending 13,000 more mostly non-combat troops—in addition to the original plan of 21,000 combat troops—to Afghanistan. This is the stuff of surges, people! [Washington Post]
  • Big changes afoot at your local mall, as Disney will be looking to revamp its store there, I Thought That Closed. [New York Times]
  • Russia admitted that while yes, diplomacy is important, not having sanctions with Iran is perhaps even more important, and therefore more diplomatic? In a way? Like dialectically maybe? [AP]
  • Do not miss the crucial deadline of this Thursday if you have yet to tell the government about your illicit off-shore banking goings-on! [Los Angeles Times]
  • Switzerland is rethinking its whole neutrality schtick. You see, being so relied on is so boring. [WSJ]

  1. Swiss neutrality? I guess they’ve still maintained it if you consider hiding money from EVERYONE neutral.

The Swiss are better positioned to take over the Vatican and replace the current regime there than any other country. I’d totally support that. Of course their troops that are already prepositionsd there might consider trading in their current uniforms for some urban camo.

  4. Terry: The Swiss don’t hide money, they just make it neutral. In the battle between private ownership and the rights of government, the Swiss take your money and put it on the sidelines, with them. They are kind of like a monetary “Red Cross” in that regard.
Then there is the well documented fact that if it weren’t for the Swiss, the entire Von Trappe family would have spent the war years singing “Do-Re-Mi” inside Buchenwald and there is that “Heidi” thing they got going on over there….they make really good Chocolate, also, so “Yay the Swiss”, IMHO

Those filthy Neutrals have shed the tyranny of Neutrality and joined the ranks of people who take stands and fight wars. Who knows, the Swiss maybe known more than just for their cuckoo clocks, chocolate and banking, especially if they invade that lousy little ant’s fart of a nation Liechtenstein.

As for Roosha, they might want to take a neutrality stand. Considering that they built most of Iran’s air defenses and a lot of their ECM gear, some people might think that Roosha is merely involved in Iran to make a buck and protect a dear customer.

  6. It’s a burden
    Such a burden
O what a burden to be so relied on…

My plan for Afghanistan: surge during the height of opium harvest system, confiscate all of the crops, withdraw the troops, make a quick stop-over in Europe to unload the stuff, and maybe we’ll just have paid for our idiot decision to loaf around that hellhole for a decade.

norbizness: What a great idea! And let’s not forget to re-seed the fields with mutant poppy seed that will destroy the resident varieties and require future purchases from the labs of Monsanto.

norbizness: Excellent idea, only last I heard the Tallyban made like $100million/year from poppy growing. Plenty enough to get lots of people high. Not enough to retire our war debt.

qaf: goddammit, qaf! I only missed by an hour.

but that’s what they want and that’s what they choose

  12. norbizness: Considering the copious amounts of morphine that will be required for the upcoming death panels, this is a capital idea
