Chip Reid Wants To Know Where Ronald Reagan’s Medal Is!

by Jim Newell

CBS’ Chip Reid, who loves such things as Dick Cheney, is furious at the White House and Robert Gibbs for essentially giving Barack Obama the Nobel Peace Prize, and then accepting it. Where’s Ronald Reagan’s Prize? Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, and Barack Obama — all gays.

This is a PARTISAN THING and will split America in half, again, and if it keeps splitting in half, eventually it will reach zero. This is math. Didn’t win that prize, did you, Obama?

(It is kind of silly that Obama would win this when he is keeping a significant chunk of Bush’s detention policies in order and bombing the dickens out of Afghanistan. But hey, who cares? People are insane. They were insane when they awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to Henry Kissinger, the most amoral figure in American foreign policy in the last half-century. Who cares? Some dumb medal not worth the intrinsic value of its metals. Anyway. Congrats, Obama! The Corner is hilarious right now.)

Of course those three are gay and won the medal. It’s significantly harder to bomb brown folks when concentrating on your ‘ass-kegels’.

Jumping Jim October 9, 2009 at 1:00 pm

I voted for Obama, I think he could be a great President, and God Bless, but if he wins the Nobel Peace Prize it means there is precious little peace in the world. No one should win an award based on what they want to do or might do or inspiration they may offer.
Ronald Reagan didn’t deserve one either.
People who are aid workers in the Sudan or Red Cross workers in disaster zones or, well you can name a lot of organizations and people before we get to President Obama.

Crank Tango October 9, 2009 at 1:01 pm

Again, what adult male goes by the name of “chip”? And correct me if I am wrong, but wasn’t Reagan a warmonging motherfucker? I mean just cuz he didn’t actually start any real wars doesn’t mean he didn’t “mong” them.

greywindz October 9, 2009 at 1:01 pm

JAN OBERG, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE TRANSNATIONAL FOUNDATION FOR PEACE AND FUTURE RESEARCH:
I am concerned at the drift of the prize that is invariably going to politicians who have been, or who are still, involved in warfare.
Obama has not left Iraq, he has stepped it up in Afghanistan. It is somewhat paradoxical to give it to a president who presides over the largest military arsenal in world history.

Republicans aren’t the only one apparently…

Sharkey October 9, 2009 at 1:02 pm

Are you trying to break another of Nancy’s hips here?

Canmon (the Inadequate) October 9, 2009 at 1:02 pm

Maybe now Obama will be considered accomplished enough to get that honorary Arizona State degree.

Reagan didn’t win because he split vote that year with Roberto D’Aubuisson.

chascates October 9, 2009 at 1:04 pm

Ronald Reagan already won his prize. It’s the make-believe legacy he has with the GOP.

comicbookguy October 9, 2009 at 1:06 pm

Can I please point out that 1) 20% to 80% is not half, and 2) If you keep splitting something in half, it will not reach zero anyway. Also.

user-of-owls October 9, 2009 at 1:06 pm

[re=430847]Sharkey[/re]: If you keep breaking her hips in half, and breaking them again, eventually Nancy will have zero hips. Then she will win Dancing With the Stars.

Aflac Shrugged October 9, 2009 at 1:06 pm

Okay, aggrieved conservatives. The Nobel Peace Prize is indeed like a Best Head of State Video Music Award, and in a truly post-racial America, Kanye would have been there in Stockholm to interrupt the committee and tell them that Ronald Reagan tore down one of the best walls ever.

norbizness October 9, 2009 at 1:06 pm

It’s also funny to hear the party/ideological wing that lauded the gave Presidential Medals of Freedom to war-mongering, incompetent cockstains (Tenet, Bremer, that other jagoff) are up in arms about this.

Mojopo October 9, 2009 at 1:07 pm

Nothing says “fuck you Bush!” like a Nobel Prize. The world would be a better place if we told people to fuck off instead of bombing their wedding receptions.

Lionel Hutz Esq. October 9, 2009 at 1:07 pm

So, in the last week, we have learned that the only thing that makes Conservatives happy is America failing, and the thing that makes them go totally ape-shit insane is America being rewarded.

Chip Reid is an unbelievably ginormous dick. So, something Obama didn’t seek, but won, and Raygun didn’t, is somehow Obama’s fault that this will divide the Nation even more? How about: the right wing in this country is batshit insane and hateful and that’s why the nation is “divided”? Sheeeesh.

[re=430856]comicbookguy[/re]: Math zero!

Manos: Hands of Fate October 9, 2009 at 1:08 pm

Actually when they gave the prize to Kissinger they also gave it to his Vietnamese counterpart who negotiated the Paris peace accords. They fact that Kissinger got a “peace” prize was enough to convince Vietnam that the whole thing was BS and they turned it down.

Mr Blifil October 9, 2009 at 1:08 pm

Sometimes you need to crack a few heads to ensure peace in our time. And a little more discernment as to which brown people to incinerate is not a bad thing, if you’re looking at the overall, with the proper degree of moral relativism.

germansteel October 9, 2009 at 1:08 pm

The apoplectic wingnut subspecies among is being driven absolutely around the corner on this outrageous development. They – like a lot of the insane – are fully capable of holding two diametrically opposed ideas at the same time, but it makes them just about shit their pants: The Nobel Peace Prize is a great thing that they campaigned for Reagan to win, and, the Nobel Peace Prize is a piece of shit/meaningless left winger contrivance that no one, particularly Reagan, would want to win.

Seek October 9, 2009 at 1:09 pm

I knew Newell would get his lick in this morning. This, much like Al Gore’s prize, is a judgment on that cretinous dumbass Dubya and what a disaster he was. Someone commented earlier that this is the first judgment Dubya is getting when he said that “History” would judge his administration and its policies. Here ya go, first of many such judgments dipshit.

On the other hand Hopey made some relatively sane comment about how the Prize is awarded to boost momentum for causes. World Peace? Nukular Disarmamamenting? Pfft. Anyone can do that.

SayItWithWookies October 9, 2009 at 1:11 pm

Reagan won his Nobel Peace Prize for liberating the concentration camps back when he was a soldier in WWII. At least that’s the way he remembered it.

Really though, this prize isn’t for President Obama so much as it is a recognition of how fucking painful it was for the rest of the planet when George Dubya Dumbass was doing donuts all over the civilized world’s nice front yard and wiping his ass with the Geneva Conventions. That we’ve reduced the amount of pain and suffering by a smidgen has gotten them so ecstatic that, relatively, it’s a marvelous sight to behold.

Do these people really have no memory of the illegal selling of arms and drugs to finance a covert war in Central America? The difference between Reagan and Nixon is that Reagan could not operate a tape recorder.

TVarmy October 9, 2009 at 1:18 pm

Reagan did the opposite of what the prize rewards.

From Wikipedia: According to Nobel’s will, the Peace Prize should be awarded “to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.”

Reagan built thousands of nukes and acted like a nuclear cowboy intent on destroying all commies.

You know, its not just the Nobel prize thats splitting this country in half, why, any prize or even praise of Obama splits this country in half. You know, its splitting this country in half whenever anyone supports him, or when he accomplishes things. When you come right down to it, any positive accomplishment by Obama, any respect or deference given him, even smiling at him, these things are all tearing this nation apart. Yes, even letting him live another day, each day he keeps living, its tearing this country apart; what is Obama going to do to stop tearing this country apart?

This is what is killing me today – Chip, you ignorant slut – OBAMA DID NOT NOMINATE HIMSELF FOR THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE. He had nothing to do with it. And as he is also not a member of the nominating committee, nor is Gibbs, you complete jackass, how the hell would either of them know why or why not someone else didn’t get it the past. They do not have a list of the nominees, they do not have an insight into the secret workings of the selection committee, Jesus F’in Christ! I love the idea that winning the NPP is somehow Obama’s fault, when he had nothing to do with it.

I too am wondering why Reagan never got a Peace prize. Reagan strengthened the defenses of Americ and her allies in a period when the Russians had become quite aggressive. I lived through that time and believe me the old SOvit Union was SCARY. Reagan believed-and so do I -tgat true peace is accomplishe only by strength. His policies quite likely help prevent a war between EAst and West. As a result of his resolve the Russians were bankrupted trying to out do us and the poeple of Russia began to demand change so much that the Old SOviets had to liberalize. This led to the demise of THe SOviet Union abd THe Iron Curtain. Does Reagan deserve a Nobel prize? Darn straight he does.

Not sure what “senstive” or “sensetivity” are, but fuck you anyhow.

Everyone will head right over to Head-Up-My-Ass by Freedom-shover. Meanwhile go back to freeperland and we’ll catch up later.

Hello teebob2000
This is what I love about liberals such as yourself. It is very difficult to have a reasoned adult conversation ruled by civil discourse. The pattern is almost always the same personal attack coupled with an effort to demonize and marginalize the other party.

If that doesn’t work then resort to profanity. My Grandma always said people used profanity when they were too ignorant to use a different word, or had no point to defend, leading them to cuss at their own frustration.

teebob it’s been fun. Well I’m heading off to freeperland now to enjoy poking fun at fellows like you or fellowettes whichever may be the case. Lots of fun though:)

[re=431845]A freedom lover[/re]: We don’t have any problems with your politics of selfishness, self-centredness and narcissism freedom hater, the ‘I’m alright Jack stuff you’ attitude of the mean-spirited. Its not a particularly noble belief, one might even call it odious but its definitely valid. Our question is why are all your heroes so stupid? Bush? Cheney? Palin? Limbaugh? Hannity? and all the other rock spiders dwelling on the dark side of the human psyche. They don’t have enough neurones between them to challenge your average xerophilic mould.

What happened to your once great party of Lincoln, Greeley and the Pathfinder? What happened that it is now reduced to a rabble of incoherence? Is smart right-winger an oxymoron these days? Its certainly makes you unelectable in the fetid swamp of right-wing politics where the motto is “Brains are bad”. Good luck with your blocks in freeperville. Look forward to catching up in 2010.

Bitch, in case you didn’t notice, this isn’t a forum for political discourse. It is a venue for sarcasm, anal sex and TruckNutz.

(With apologies to MR. JUSTICE CARDOZO): Will not someone purge this vicious taint?

[re=432730]A freedom lover[/re]: “Why dou you libs always try to portray conservatives as stupid.”

Have you been asleep these last 8 years Rip?

“You know the problem with the French, they don’t have a word for entrepreneur”
“I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully.”
“Reading is the basics for all learning.”
“Rarely is the questioned asked: Is our children learning?”
“I’m the decider, and I decide what is best.”
“There’s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on –shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.”
“Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.”

A delicious combination of arrogance and ignorance that is the right’s sine qua non these days. If you didn’t know any better you would think they are the ravings of a child.

Oh and there is no u in do. hth.
