Yeah, Is That Image Racist Or Satirical, Guys?

by Jim Newell

Oh? Racist. Don’t give them too much credit, CNN. “(CNN) — Posters portraying President Obama as a witch doctor may be racist, organizers of Tea Party protests say, but they reflect anger about where he is leading the country.” Yes, racist anger. [CNN]

From Charles Krauthammer about Maureen Dowd’s column about racism:

The accusation of racism is a sign of desperation by
people who know they are losing the national debate and they want to hurl the ultimate charge in American politics.
This is dealing from the bottom of the deck and I agree that it is a
disgusting tactic. It’s done as a way to end debate. The minute you call someone a racist the debate is over, you don’t continue. Accusations of racism are the last refuge of the liberal scoundrel.

Apparently racism is only made real by the appearance of a burning cross or a noose.

“Posters…may be racist, but they reflect anger…”

This is a great meme, useful in so many ways: I may be throwing a Molotov cocktail in the lobby of your office building, Halliburton, but it reflects my anger about your gouging of the taxpayers for the past 20 years.

Lionel Hutz Esq. September 17, 2009 at 6:05 pm

The only reason this is an issue is because Conservatives are not adult enough to call out their racist and defend them by claiming that saying that some Conservatives (obviously) are racist, people are saying that any one that disagrees with Obama is racist.

There is a big difference between someone who wants to argue policy, and someone that wants to argue about birth certificates, death panels, and “czars,” when they didn’t give a damn about any of this until their was a black person in charge. Why is it that Glen Beck doesn’t get scolded by the right for saying the President is a racist and “hates white people,” but you dare suggest that a person who caries a poster of Obama as a African witch doctor you have committed a sin worse than Joe Wilson?

SayItWithWookies September 17, 2009 at 6:16 pm

And what the hell’s up with this anger thing, anyway? For most of my life, what I heard about liberals was that we’re inordinately angry — just a bunch of undergratified, spoiled kids getting outraged about everything they could find. And now all of a sudden the teabaggers show up, yelling about Obama’s birth certificate, death panels and bringing fucking guns to rallies (looking not at all like a lynch mob, of course) and the same people who were tossing around “anger” as though it was completely the wrong emotion to have about my country being induced to torture people and invade others for no reason, are now kneeling at the altar of God-given Anger, the redeemer. Not that I expect consistency from these assholes — though a little memory of what they were so against yesterday might add credibility to their cause.

Oh, and yes — racist. Like torture, deficit spending, WMDs, and whether smoking causes cancer, the jury’s still out.

It’s been forgotten in the Joe Wilson flap, but a couple of days before O’s speech Saxby Chambliss said that the president needed to show some “humility” before Congress. A white Southerner telling a black man he must show humility before a room full of white people is, to my mind, even more loaded with good ol’ racism then Wilson’s shout-out. Witch doctors are the most respected members of their society — It’s the Cato Institute subliminally defining the Right’s agenda:

We also need to rethink medical licensing laws to encourage greater competition among providers. Nurse practitioners, physician assistants, midwives, and other non-physician practitioners should have far greater ability to treat patients. Doctors and other health professionals should be able to take their licenses from state to state. We should also be encouraging innovations in delivery such as medical clinics in retail outlets.

Once people start thinking about witch doctors, pretty soon they can start getting treated by witch doctors. It’s all about undercutting the AMA.

Yeah. That’s it. So, see, it isn’t racist. It’s a laissez faire thing.

On a more positive note, at least the MSM is now acknowledging that perhaps there may be a wee touch of the RACISM involved in all this patriotic teabagging horseshit — an element they have thus far fallen all over themselves to deny. Fuck them too.

I mean, there’s always a requisite story about a dog, always a requisite story about a child abduction, always a requisite story about some crappy popular TV show, always a requisite poll one can’t possibly answer without losing millions of brain cells, always an obsession about the murder-du-jour, and sprinkled here and there little hints of something going on that *might* be significant in some way, but these pieces of lint are swiftly brushed off the next time Octomom opens her mouth. “If you get your information from liberal sources, the crowd numbered about 70,000, many of them greedy racists. If you get your information from conservative sources, the crowd was hundreds of thousands strong, perhaps as many as a million, and the tenor was peaceful and patriotic. Either way, you may not be inclined to believe what we say about numbers, according to a recent poll that found record-low levels of public trust of the mainstream media.”

“I happened to be in Washington, DC last weekend, and on the way to and from the National Gallery I had the opportunity to observe the March on Washington, which was in full swing. Once upon a time I had joined demonstrations, not out of some misplaced idealism, but to pick up women (I was still single at the time). The demonstrations were always full of pretty, high-spirited young women, and the context of marching and chanting slogans together rendered them approachable. And so my first question concerning the crowd marching around the Mall last weekend was, ‘Where are all the pretty young women?’ There weren’t any! Surprised, I observed some more. What I saw only deepened my consternation. Not only were there no pretty women to be seen, but the crowd included exactly zero blacks, Latinos or Asians. I don’t believe I have ever before seen so many middle-aged, obese, shabbily dressed, melanin-challenged individuals gathered in one place!” …

How about a Washington Times editorial cartoon of Obama, dressed as a witch doctor, fucking a white woman, doggy-style. Of course, the “Obama” character would have an obscenely large, black penis. The white woman would be labeled “American taxpayers”. Would that be acceptable political comment? Not racist, I guess?

I suggest that Obama open his next address to Congress with the following:

“ooo-eee,
ooo-ah-ah,
ting,
tang,
walla-walla-bing-bang.”

I love how Min comes in in typical fashion earlier in the thread dealing with obvious racist and offers up a kind of weasely and tacit “they kind of have a point” comment. Give it a rest. I’m really starting to get suspicious of why you’re trying to find nuance where there is none.

Nelson Mandela: Nobel Prize-winning South African Hero or Dastardly Xhosa Terrorist?

Kirstie Alley: Fat of Metabolically Challenged?

Seriously, one of my greatest pet peeves of today’s ‘progressives’ and much of the progressive media is the offering of undue deference to known evil because they feel they have to, because, somehow, searching for a happy middle, searching for a center, is more important than searching for the truth. What happens in this near-religious pilgrimage to find the ‘center’ of an issue is that the truth almost always becomes a casualty because the truth is very rarely ever found in the center, contrary to popular believe.

Let me just put it this way, when you deny obvious racism to try and make the other side feel better, you only end up hurting those who’s only defense against racism is the truth of its existence. To make it even more personal, every time Obama and liberals deny these things, they end up hurting black people like myself just trying to live a day at a time. It’s hard enough for people to be human without also having to shoulder the burden of racism.

Sorry for the snarklessness.

A few short years ago, CNN was 24/7 on how us Americans should band together and kill the Dixie Chicks for saying something vaguely bad about President W while singing songs in jolly ol’ England and now has those same type of Dixie Chick-haters in their teevee studio 24/7 screaming how bad the President O is.

Does this really “sell” their airtime to potential commercial buyers?

President Obama, who was elected last November in a landslide victory (to learn how elections work -click here-), and is possibly a Kenyan National (to learn where Kenya is -click here-), had no immediate response, other than that he was sincerely grateful to receive our email and was proud that his constituents cared enough to take the time to write him (to learn how to email your elected representatives -click here-).

Using a montage of monkeys to make an image of the face of a wealthy, white Yale alumnus, son of a wealthy, white, Yale alumnus, grandson of a wealthy, white Yale alumnus, and great-grandson of a wealthy, white Yale alumnus is not even close to as racist as depicting a Black man as a witch doctor or a member of a Jim Crow era Minstrel Show, no it is not.

CNN is preparing us for the day, not far in the future, when the N word will be common currency and no major media outlet will feel the need to respect a president of color. Anything not originating from the further reaches of the far right lacks legitimacy. CNN will save this country for white people.

sarcasticusername September 17, 2009 at 11:07 pm

the original piece was titled “calling obama a nigger: racism or policy critique?”
the author concluded that calling him a nigger is not racist, if you do it out of anger.

somehow that version didn’t make it past the editor.

I’m ready to just.give.up. Some chickenshit fucktard is papering my area with ObamaJokerSocialist posters – under cover of darkness of course. One day they were taped up all over a Starbucks and it’s immediate vicinity. Then the local library parking lot, then another strip mall. Today one of those big land-use signs at a busy intersection has a 4 x 5 version plastered on it (GLUED so I can’t remove it). Fucking lovely.

I thought it was his mother-in-law who was the witchdoctor? Anyway, he should have her cast spells on his enemies. Or ask her to ask her witchdoctor to do so. Papa Doc Duvalier claimed to have killed Jack Kennedy with voodoo. Sending the right-wing punditocracy and the 30 leading televangelists to their rewards would be a good thing.

I really don’t know where senile old Jimmy Carter is getting this “racism” stuff. It’s SO obvious that NO white racists are left in the Southland. The “new” Klan is all about prayer in schools, 2nd Amendment, and such; it says so right there in the newspaper ads for their meetings. He’d know this if he looked at a newspaper once in a while. Sheesh! Not only has he apparently gone gaga, but I guess he can’t read either.
