LABOR DAY WEEKEND NEWS DUMP

President Fires Black Man To Please Wingnuts

It's a good summer color! In the secret quiet of labor Day Weekend, the White House fired black person Van Jones, who had some administration position related to “green jobs.” The White House confirmed that Jones was out “early Sunday,” which is right now. Why did this Van Jones get axed? Because wingnuts were angry about ….

Uh, let’s see, he said something they didn’t like at one point, in the past, before they’d ever heard of him. Wise Latinas, probably? No! He called Republicans “assholes.” Which is true! [AP/NBC Washington]

  1. Well, I guess Van Jones, like a clock, is correct twice:
    1. Republicans are “assholes’
    2. You don’t see black kids shooting up or blowing up schools.

You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.

Can’t say I saw this one coming, at all. Personally, I always thought Van was exceptionally smug, but that has no bearing on anything. lol Calling Republicans ‘assholes’, though, is rather nice, no?

Sorry, I just typed four sentences, none which connect to the other. I apologize and promise to come with the snark down the road.

  3. Someone needs to tell Barack Obama that you’re not supposed to bring a white flag to a gunfight.

BTW, can Politico get a fucking life, already? I thought I hated Huffington Post, but The Politico has finally proven itself to be a waste of bandwith. As if there weren’t enough wingnut outlets that could have ran this story of the GOP calling for an advisors head, right?

Politico is proof that you can, indeed, out-Fox Fox.

LoweredPeninsula: “Finally”? You mean the way they’re a megaphone for the raving lunatic right and the Beltway insiders who support it took a while to…sink in? Manifest itself? Just got worse?

Politico has been a right wing joke every time I tried to read it, which was a total of about three times, over its lifetime.

  6. LoweredPeninsula says at 2:18 am, September 6th, 2009

Oh, and one more thing. When is that sorry-shit Ensign, who boned his married campaign staffer and then had mummy and father pay off the entire damn family, going to resign? If they want to play this war of attrition, we should actually play, ourselves. Every single time want to scream about a Democrat and/or liberal, or what offends Republicans, if I were Obama I’d hold a short press conference, and repeat “Foley, DeLay, Craig, Ensign, Pickering, Sanford, Fossella, Vitter…” again and again and again until the cameramen and journalists got bored or freaked out and left.

  7. ShaqsDong says at 2:19 am, September 6th, 2009

Man, you just KNOW the Republicans have known about all about this guy since the day he joined the administration and were just waiting for the right time (ie; sandwiched in between Health Care Reform and brainwashing the youth of America) to unleash his strange on self-righteous-red-baiting-Caucasian-Middle America through the “impartial” medium of the AP and the rest of the MSM.

Silly, immature, Drudge induced fear and innuendo has been their MO for the last 12 years and will continue to be their MO as long as their are still paranoid morons out there to be frightened.

  8. Uncertainty Vice-Principal says at 2:23 am, September 6th, 2009

Well, uhm, “Do whatever the Wingnuts demand and hope that they’ll be nice afterwards” DOES have the word “hope” in it.

If I had known that that’s what it meant though I wouldn’t have gotten my, you know, hopes up. Ah well.

  10. mrsinnister says at 2:35 am, September 6th, 2009

What is going on here? I mean, I hear that Van Jones has just been asked to and accepted resignation over comments so very light and so far removed from either his current position or “inflammatory” as the MSM has tried to portray it w/o explanation, clarification, or context; that I don’t feel Americans actually live in a real world with adults occupying any kind of position of influence or accountability anymore. I mean, all of us have seen Bush admin officials say far worse about every class, race, and social orientation of not only every American, but of every person on this planet, with very little hubbub and NO resignations. It was actually scoff-able to attempt to have them answer for them. Obama is the ultimate capitulator. By doing this which is no more than a win for Fox News, Glenn Beck, members of the Birthers, Deathers, Seccessionists, Imbred, Uneducatable, Old, Feeble, Feeble-Minded, and Those Who Have Yet To Have Hardship That Opens Their Eyes So That They Plead To Anyone For Help Despite Railing Against Any Such Offering When They Were Mobile And Stable, and any such people who have started with health care reform to start pulling the thread away from this Cosby-sweater Jimmy Carter-lite administration; to achieve not only a win, but a supreme justification for waging this battle. The lowlife version of the Republican Party was DEAD!! with the loss of Sarah Palin (yeah, I know it was McCain’s bid but no one thought that past September), but this administration with its failure to hold anyone accountable for anything that when on with the Bush admin for expediency alone, coupled with its near sycophantic need for Republican approval on every little thing that was needed to be passed despite majorities in both houses and the bully pulpit of the presidency because of Clinton’s woes have amounted to a definite calculation of FAIL. Add to that no way of trimming rotten fruit (ie Lieberman, Nelson, Arlen “late to the party, don’t really believe in you, you just hired so many GOPhERS to the admin and I need to keep a job too” Specter, and the failure to even be able to crack some heads to get a bill signed that EVERYONE in every REGION but the SOUTH wants…..and you have a disaster. Count in throwing them Van Jones…I won’t even give the negative effects for racists will try to destroy my overall point. Suffice it to say, this is very much not change that anyone thought was possible. This is the Lazarus touch than NO ONE knew existed to a comatose party, that screamed every expletive it could think of, instead of giving up the ghost. This was a party that showed its corruption and ineptness at every level in the Bush admin, and as it died, wanted all to see how morally and ethically bankrupt it was too. Like Wall Street’s stranglehold until near death of our banking industry, Obama felt obligated to save it too with no strings attached. It will only become worse, as it looks now as he has things to hide. Hell, could’ve even kept Daschle, long as he paid the back taxes. Now this? What a weak man/president/puppet/rope-a-dope Barack Obama is.

So, a rich white guy just got a black guy fired from his job?

  12. mrsinnister says at 2:51 am, September 6th, 2009

Nah, Glenn Beck knew he had an easy target, searched for with the help of Fox News ANYTHING that would make him seem less than completely apathetic about American’s political and racial history and POUNCED. It’s VERY easy to destroy a minority in this manner, if Sonia Sotomayor’s struggle to be on the supreme court was any indication. We’ve all seen many officials of the GOP at every level say far worse. But oh know, you can’t have a black guy with any kind of who knows what it is anymore. I just wish these Liberals had the spine of Repubs sometimes. For once, let them talk, just keep forward in your mission. Obama, YOU’RE NO BILL CLINTON! You can’t afford to let people keep chipping away and getting stronger questioning your credibility. You only make your opposition stronger in congress and scare your own base, that will start to fracture with you not really giving us anything to hang onto with your need to grow your independent and Repub margins, which you will lose anyway as you fire people over nonsense and let them question your judgment. Be careful. But no defeatism, it wasn’t overt racist, it was just enabling a overt racist to win to enable others.

Jones also called for investigations into whether the Bush administration was negligent (not complicit, as I maintain, but merely negligent).

Upon reading the AP story, there’s something else (which, TBH is kinda decent grounds for giving him the boot) … APPARENTLY, Van Jones signed some petition at some point, and the upshot is that he seems like a 9/11 conspiracy theorist.

    So w/e.

  34. facehead: That’s what I’d thought the resignation/firing was about.

facehead: I agree with aleks; that had been all the bad news I’d heard previously. But, I’d been willing to discount it - signing a petition is an easy thing to do, and as we’ve seen (well, some of us, looking around) signing something like that doesn’t mean you know what-all is going to be presented in the end.

I take as vague parallel a recent poll which attempted to equate right- and left- wing paranoid fantasies, as in equating birthers with truthers, yet the questions were completely unbalanced. As in, on the “truther” side all that one needed to be counted was thinking that some investigation was needed because Bush might haven’t paid enough attention to the warning that bin Laden was intending to attack. Not at all equivalent.

    I dunno.

I’ll never wear my “Van Jones” hat again.

  42. LoweredPeninsula says at 6:21 am, September 6th, 2009

Ok, I’ve done a bit more research on the two things he’s being called on. The first is this fully quote:

“The answer to that is: They’re assholes. That’s a technical political science term. And Barack Obama’s not an asshole. I will say this, I can be an asshole. And some of us who are not Barack Hussein Obama are gonna have to start getting a little bit uppity.”

Yep, can’t find any fault with this. The Republicans are assholes; Van can definitely be an asshole; and the president generally isn’t an assholes. Here’s where it gets a bit tricky, though, and it has to deal with the petition he signed with these exact words:

“The statement called “for immediate public attention to unanswered questions that suggest that people within the current administration may indeed have deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen, perhaps as a pretext for war.”

The key term being “deliberately allowed.” I think the problem is that he’s never denied not reading the petition, and even if he hadn’t read it, that’s a question of judgement/competence. Either way, this is being blown way out of proportion. The folks in the last administration actually tortured, bombed, and lied their way away the around the world, and on more personal levels were far nastier and conspiratorial than anything Van could have ever been.

Somehow, though, it’s completely within reason for conservatives to seriously consider whether our president was born here or not. Somehow, that’s not controversial or crazy, right? God, these death panels can’t be implemented soon enough.

  43. Hooray for America, A Racist cost a black man his job. Republican are assholes, they are maitre d’assholes, and as a burgeoning asshole I find that extremely attractive. With these kinds of results how can one not help but become a fan.

  44. So Dick “Go fuck yourself” Cheney is ok, but the White House had to let this man go? They probably wouldn’t want me in meetings either.

  45. mrsinnister says at 6:52 am, September 6th, 2009

Kinkster: Well, you got me?? If having to watch what could still be the greatest civilization on earth fall because of a whoring, whoremongerish ghetto media; which constantly tries to turn everything into a left-right argument of two equal sides and tilts to what can cause the most drama BUT never let the GOP’s really lose any arguments until 10 years after their assertions are proved without a shadow of a doubt wrong despite the cost to our treasure, civility, army and economy makes me some kind of a cokehead; then high am I.

I just believe that we should stop being so selfish and cheerleaderish ALL the time and try to be fair down the line. I mean, if Bill Clinton had ran off for a full week without telling anyone, including his Lt. Governor, chief of staff or probably even his security detail to not just another state but another COUNTRY (aren’t we still scared of terrorism) just to bop his mistress after winning because he railed so much against some youngish, good looking GOP to get his seat, I’m pretty damn sure he’d be tar’d and feather’d; much less had his family pay hush money, got his mistress’ husband a child a job only to be fired after it was over, on top of being a part of some shadowy philandering gang in some weird sex house (alleged). That’s not even including it’s a part of some Christian power-grab cult. I mean, no firings, and not even a squeak from the same media that inflated Al Gore’s Love Canal to like Strangelove proportions!

I know I’m overwrought, but this kind of thing is extremely worrying. I mean, it has real life consequences; we are feeling them now. I just want to know who’s driving and do they even serve the will of the people anymore. I live in the South, and they’ve been programmed for like 60 years to hate all conflicting views, even when they don’t challenge their already insanely myopic world or region view, told to keep my qualms that directly affect me or will, while they go rant about every conspiracy theory known to man, favor secession when their leaders are out of power, can’t find out what their own interests are and how they can be served when the country NEEDS to make them whole, all for the hate they have in the man in office, based on NOTHING! I mean, it’s gotten to the point that not just PhD’s, MDs or graduate students are being labeled elitist and thus irrelevant, but also just simple college students that don’t get their opinions from extreme right-wing sources. Our only counter is the MSM, but they are so threatened by net reporting, that they can’t risk losing what little viewership they think they have, ceding all that ground to Fox. Hell, Fox controls my Rock station, so I get propaganda there, FROM THE DJ!

In fuller disclosure, I’m an young Black male, so people think I automatically have some biased foot in this fight. Everyone I know though, know that I didn’t think Obama was up to it, and wanted Al Gore to try this time. He deferred, so I was left with a pretty thin field. I always knew Edwards was empty, so I wanted (since everyone was rooting for Obama because of 2 great speeches) a reverse of what we have now, Biden-Obama. But the progressives had to have their pretty boy and I didn’t like the entitlement that Hillary brought and everyone counted out the only true candidate with principle, Dennis Kucinich, cause he looked like an elf. He mustn’t have been to bad cause he scored big time with is wife and his region. Still, I’ve watched him get beat up wrongly in the campaigns by the same people he’s bending over to please now, under the moronic hand of Rahm and the effiminate duffus Axelrod. If he had immediately sent Holder to investigate ALL crimes, there would’ve been so many people trying to shred files that they would’ve never been able to mount the echo chamber they have now, blue dog or GOP. His failure to stick to the principles he ran on now threatens his presidency. Yeah, Van Jones seems pretty inappropriate for such a response, but I’ve watched him make mistake after mistake in not trying to reward his base, as Bush made damned sure he did even AFTER 9/11. Keith Olbermann now suggest pulling a Ted Kennedy and finding someone to run against him on the Dem side in 2012, and if we lose the majority in 2010, I’m following him. He needs to do like he said on Jon Stewart and FIRE THE BUSH DRIVER! not BAIL HIM OUT or shred his blood alcohol test. We are still in the ditch when a mandate of Americans built him a crane. He’s too busy trying to make the perfect speech to sway people with white sheets on (and nooses in hand). Come down from the mountaintop Obama, you’re not seeing us anymore. At least chew some gum to stop the popping ears so something past 10 feet or people can get in.

We need to start caring about things and each other BEFORE they directly affect us or someone we know. I’m tired of watching townhalls where people beg to their senators for things and because it gets on tele, they move heaven and earth to help THAT individual, when the reason they’re there is because it’s about plans that affect us ALL, or will. If you enact healh care reform, you won’t have to worry about the individual cases. If you stop don’t ask don’t tell, you don’t have to worry about troop depletion. They’ll feel obligated to serve because you showed you think they’re human beings. If you allow gay marriage, you become a boon to the travel and catering industry overnight. Am this is a straight guy saying this. Let’s think ahead and not be so small and petty. That’s my piece, hate as you will. My fiance’s in another land, so I don’t have to worry about this impotent s00t too much longer.

Teachers can tape the speech and show it later - to spark “debate”. I guess that debate would be whether it makes sense to work hard and stay in school???

But no homework will be assigned (can’t let the younger kids at home be exposed to our black president and his communism) and parents can ask for their kids to be excused from any of this Obama indoctrination.

All of this due to “concern by some parents”.

The reason Obama fired this guy is the part of the quote where he said we need to get more uppity. He was speaking about Democrats, but the subtext is clear. He speaks in praise of uppity negroes, and that will not go over well with the Southern (a.k.a. Republican) Party.

  58. house of the blue lights says at 8:40 am, September 6th, 2009

So let me get this straight. Asshole republicans can call the President a terrorist, spread lies about his motives and character, through the word racist around like it’s a birthright, and they’re American heros, but someone who is NOT working for the administration (at the time) can call these assholes “assholes” and he gets fired for it. Just to clarify.

2 things: if they vetted him and knew about all this extraneous crap that’s being thrown at him, and Obama picked him anyhow, then they should have stuck with him because you KNEW the Repugs (and their media howler monkeys) would make a huge stink. If they didn’t vet him and didn’t know about all that stuff, then they should have.

Either way, it’s an O-fail big time. When Blenn Geck wins, we all lose.

  68. BlueStateLibtard says at 9:55 am, September 6th, 2009

Ugh, bad move Obama. You do not want to give in to the Glenn Becks in any way shape or form. By firing this guy, they’re perceive you as weak and easy to cow. Think of them as spoiled brat kids or Hitler, the more you concede to them, the more they’ll try to take.

  69. An Outhouse says at 9:57 am, September 6th, 2009

A black, former Maoist, outspoken, honest (Rethugs are assholes, white people dump their shit where poor people live) administration official is like fly paper for the mouth breathers at Faux. They should have kept him on just to give Hannity and Beck something to obsess about.

  70. teebob2000: I read this on Dailykos “…….. Democrats and Republicans share only two characteristics in common in my experience: they both fight Democrats all the time and would never make common cause with one. Republicans defend war criminals. Democrats only defend perfect and spotless Democrats, and not even then, generally.”

I think they vetted him but as typical gutless Democrats at the first sign of contraversy they caved.

4tehlulz: Obviously, Obama’s failure to expend every bit of political capital for a 9/11 troofer just shows that he’s no better than McCain.

    That’s funny.

“Refusing to jump and do whatever Glenn Beck demands” = “expending every bit of political capital”

Ignoring idiots on the extreme right is always an option too. If you respond to any idiotic demand they make it just makes you look weak, and then what happens to “political capital”?

For example his refusal to even acknowledge the demands that he “produce” another birth certificate, is this “expending political capital” too?

Perception is everything in politics, and this looks like the tiny percentage of Wingnuts now call the shots.

Bad move. Any way you look at it.

Your response to me, even though I pointed out to you that it doesn’t matter whether Axelrod is effeminate or not, shows that you don’t get it.

Someone’s sexuality should not be a topic for ridicule. I don’t think I disagreed with anything else you wrote, so why would I address anything else you wrote? And I didn’t get personal, I didn’t even get nasty. Why can’t you understand it’s wrong to label someone as “effeminate” as a slam?

  109. slappypaddy: Fine, the bar needs to be raised when it comes to political discourse in the country, but just as it shouldn’t be set too low, it also shouldn’t be set too high.

His language may have been caustic, but he wasn’t a diplomat. He may be a truther, but he’s not attorney general. He may have been a pseudoscience mystic, but he’s not secretary of energy or education. Unlike so many Republicans who were put in charge of things they loudly proclaimed to despise and want to dismantle (from John Bolton to Kristin Maguire), he simply ascribed to rather odd views that ultimately didn’t affect his ability to do his job.

Firing for gross negligence or incompetents will help your cause, but firing for simply being a potential political liability only serves to vindicate your enemies while ultimately appearing weak and vulnerable.

Improving the standard for political discourse in this country is a noble goal (albiet one that’s probably incompatible with the way elections are conducted in this country), but that should be kept a secondary goal, with the primary goals being “stop killing people and letting people die” and “stop being corporate shills at the expense of the citizenry.” Fix the fundamentals, then worry about something as esoteric as political discourse.

Remember: in five days Obama will have been in office for just as long as Bush was when he let a few thousand people die on his watch. Get past that milestone and the bar has already been raised, without having to fire everybody who’s ever had impure thoughts or otherwise acted like a human being.

And then as “White House scandals” like this pile up, we’ll end up electing a Republican in 2012 to “bring dignity back to the White House.”

The independents are the ones who elected Bush in ‘00 and ‘04, and they liked “centrists” like Clinton and McCain in ‘08. Obama was elected by crazy libtards who actually got the number of registered Democrats up during a time when party registrations overall had been on the decline. It might remind them of how Bush made the head of the national Arabian horseshow association the head of FEMFA, and how well that all turned out. But they’re hardly likely to notice this at all anyway, much less care. The thing about Obama is that he always comes across as reassuring, normal and smart, whereas the other side just keeps coming across as impulsive, crazy, paranoid and hot-tempered. If he can get the economy back, the independents will vote for him again. Just my humble, humble opinion, but I’m usually right.

  143. mrsinnister says at 4:22 pm, September 6th, 2009

this is the reason none of the fundies will ever be in power.

  147. ForTheTurnstiles says at 4:29 pm, September 6th, 2009

trickyrick: Look, Bob McDonnell is probably going to be governor of Virginia in spite of his Regents University credentials. The fundies *like* the fundie, and they have allies with money. The GOP machine still works in many parts of the country, and those places have two senators each. Congress, consequently, is a total monkeyhouse.

  148. mrsinnister says at 4:29 pm, September 6th, 2009

BlueStateLibtard: But how long before the loudspeaker carrying right starts to muddle the overall message and we just want them to stop. Yeah, the political wonks and activists will keep up the charge, but the people who just wanted to believe in a bigger plan will simply either go back to being cynical and/or apathetic, as with the Republican revival in 1994. The Right knows this playbook, which is why Rush received a half a billion dollar contract just after Obama won, and in turn, assumed the mantle of bouncer. He helped them win before, and he knows the ways to sow distrust, fear, hate and apathy, as I seen it back then, with just the volume of conjecture and flat out lies. With so much venom then out there, people will start forgetting that this guy was good when they picked him, and will just think he found a nice hustle over them to bring in his kin. There’s plenty of examples of this with how the right wing personally attacks Michelle as being extremely uppity and Ritzy, but I’ll stop before I arouse more SNARKS (lol).

  150. mrsinnister says at 4:39 pm, September 6th, 2009

trickyrick: Now he seems like it. Just you wait…that calm deliberative (fake), conciliatory manner will seem like elixir to the red ears of the populace. Plus, the MSM who is already right-tilted will bow to his story as a chance to stick it to Obama, to negate charges (don’t make me laugh!!) that they were easy on Obama. If McCain had picked ANYONE except Sarah Palin, they would made it a 46-42 race (still a coin flip as who would’ve won). But expect all the low hanging fruit journalists (ie Chris Matthews, David Gregory, Wolf Blitzer, George Stephanopoulos) to try to reestablish credibility by bashing the hell out of Obama. If Huckabee makes it through the primaries, he’s then almost insured a close race. All the rest of the current field seems either wacky or boring. You couple him with a good VP chose like Tim Pawlenty, and they steal the press coverage and keep Obama on the defensive. This is not Bob Dole’s party anymore.

idiot son of an asshole: He’s nuttier than a fruit cake. The difference is, as George W. barely showed to such high praise in 2000, he knows how to present his thoughts far better than other wack jobs. He’s charming, charismatic, and already has connections to many late night shows (which will feel hesitant to just start attacking him if he stays close to the mainstream, INCLUDING Jon Stewart) and cable news outlets. He left the bright lights at exactly the right time, making sure he was at least as close to a household name as a loser of a primary could be. He’s attacked Obama in Isreal, which brings him back closer to the right wing fold and helps him with both conservative and Libermann (lol), along with other quasi-Democratic Jewish leaders (the one issue only types not to disparage all of them AT ALL). He’s their best shot, and I see him pulling it off, if his past statements are not too damaging, if Barack fails to inspire his base and loses the middle by giving easy wins to the Glenn Beck, Rush and conspiracy ilk.

But, on-topic, Hopey is really making me wonder. I mean, this is the dude that came from Chicago to take down the Clinton machine, and these fuckers are afraid of their own shadow. I dunno, I always thought the Clintons were tough as nails and to beat them you’d have to be, you know, tougher than them?

Did he just BS some college kids and get us all to send him money and he organized a couple of communities Did I get Rickrolled? because I would gladly trade that t-shirt for the money I gave him.

And who the hell is watching Glenn Beck at 5 pm EST? They’re not young people working. They’re old white folks wishing the country could go back 50 years, which it can’t and won’t. And not all old white folks are mean, crazy racists like those townhallers either, so even they’re a minority.

And to your earlier point, people will at first try to go against the grain. If you can’t, however, articulate a plan past a dream, and they other side, which can also include your friends, relatives, bosses and coworkers, are constantly gaining traction on destroying your savior, it’s human nature to desist. Obama needs to feed his base for awhile to reward them and have them fight his battles on the ground. At least a sacrificial few lambs…. But he’s above all that, and prefers us to do his work, while he, Axelrod (effeminate, not GAY), Emmanuel, Gibbs, and Sebelius, and Holder constantly stay conflicting things if not nothing at all.

But you’re got a great act there, I’m impressed with the way you kept yourself from shouting by NOT TYPING IN ALL CAPS. Must have taken a lot of will power on your part.

  176. BlueStateLibtard: I’d wager that the demographic that watches Glenn Beck also tends to be the demographic that actually bothers to go out and vote. The 18-40 year olds who voted in ‘04 voted for an idea, a pre-packaged dream that would stand up to anything that Disney puts out. But now that Hopey is actually in office and supposedly doing things, the young’uns aren’t all that keen on seeing what goes into that particular hot dog.

I’ll agree with what others have said, that Obama is on the verge of turning those first-time voters off from voting at all in the future, possibly for the long-term. And with the way elections are rigged in this country, I really don’t blame that majority of the enfranchised that won’t bother voting next year.

  177. mrsinnister says at 6:55 pm, September 6th, 2009

zhubajie: Thanks dude. Although you miss a lot of context there I think. I mean, I would’ve never known how Bush beat Gore if I wasn’t here to see such far slanted, very personal media coverage. And he still needed the Supremes, when they’re always yelling about state’s rights. Then go with the new electronic voting machines with no paper trail made by a company whose founder is a huge Bush contributor, followed with reports that Jeb Bush’s spokesperson asked for hypothetical’s on a source code to change the voting results in plain sight, lol. I definitely won’t miss this place, but I really wonder how we’ve looked to the rest of the world while you were abroad.

  178. BlueStateLibtard says at 7:12 pm, September 6th, 2009

Barack’s first instinct is to bend over for some reason. Props to the poster that broached it earlier and to Guppy’s great instinct in knowing that the ones we’ve mobilized to believe in this hope could get turned off for a long period of time. The Dems were given a great gift by the Bush admin, seeing that we survived it: 2 failed wars, a horribly mismanaged and damaged economy and bank structure, graft and corruption in nearly every industry tying directly to Bush officials and campaign contributions, war crimes and Geneva treaty violations, domestic spying even those of political enemies (Bill Clinton accidental, yeah right!)….and for fear of jumping the snark I’ll stop here but listed is not even a twentieth of what went down. WTF happened, here? It’s like a Peggy Noonan bourbon & percocet OD. That is to say that it’s an utterly and wholely beautiful disaster.

  238. LoweredPeninsula says at 4:51 am, September 7th, 2009

gurukalehuru: I do prefer my weekend Noonannies, though, to be the result of misguided snark (and copious amounts of alcohol if the poster is a ‘fun’ drunk) and sometimes even idiot wingnut trolls as opposed to pure bitterness and bile from our own. I get my fill of bitter, and then some, on the other political sites I haunt.

Please, for the love FDR (may he be showered with praises foreverly, amen), let the bitters hijack other sites. I’m as bitter as the next, and was never an Obama fan as fanboys and fangirls go, but I come here seeking refuge from bitters, and I imagine I’m not the only one.

So, with that said, let’s continue our full-frontal funnies against The Beckness and his crotch-pheasant brethren.

  239. artbot2000: “Maus,

Nah, I don’t think he’s a GOP level of worthless, but he does have a history of poor choices. I could probably search for a more reliable source and I could possibly stick up for him, but there are probably better choices for the role that have less baggage and less stupid decisions behind them. Ultimately I think he seems kind of suspect for the role, but that’s my personal opinion and has less to do with the choice for him to resign than the GOP and Glenn Beck’s reasons to demand his resignation.

  240. Also lord knows I have enough dumbshit libertarians and LaRouchies to deal with in Seattle :(

Nerdalicious: You need to get some bill out of the Senate. It could be one that says that the insurance companies have the right to harvest your organs while you’re still alive and you (the insured) have to pay for it. Doesn’t really matter what it says.

Then the House passes their bill. Then the two houses negotiate a bill that will be presented to both houses. (Hopefully the House Bill will be the model of that).

Now here’s the tricky part. You have to present the bill as a budget reconciliation when it goes to the floor again. Then you no longer need 60 votes to pass what comes out of that. There are rules that a reconciliation bill must abide by, including one in the House that forbids reconciliation from raising the deficit.

    http://digital.library.unt.edu/govdocs/crs/permalink/meta-crs-551:1

But you do need something in the Senate that will get 60 votes first.

    fishskicanoe:
Thanks :). Spector & Daschle are for reconciliation bill. Jesus, Grassley & Conrad. They know what they can do with their co-ops & triggers. Pull the GD plug on them.
Congress Daily: “Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pa., told Fox News Sunday that the tactic should be viewed as a last resort but is something he would consider supporting. Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D., said last week after meeting with President Obama that it could be the only way to advance a bill. … Senate Finance ranking member Charles Grassley, who joined Conrad on CBS, trumpeted his committee’s plan to establish a co-op system of healthcare coverage as an alternative to the health insurance public option that many Democrats support” (Noyes, 8/23).

  283. Quasi: Actually, coming back to read from where I left off, I noticed a typo.

World Nut Daily is claiming their stringer in Israel, Aaron Klein, brought down the green czar. Beck is graciously claiming it was Americans who did it, his own efforts not withstanding.

From Washington Monthly on the subject czars:
Bush/Cheney not only kept some of the czars left over from the Clinton and the H.W. Bush administrations, but also oversaw the creation of a “food safety czar,” a “cybersecurity czar,” a “regulatory czar,” an “AIDS czar,” a “manufacturing czar,” an “intelligence czar,” a “bird-flu czar,” and a “Katrina czar.”

I doubt naming the head of a single issue something different, i.e., ‘Health Patriot,’ would mollify any loons but it would be nice to grab their key phrases. And instead of little flag lapel pins make up little pins of the Constitution. With the Pledge of Allegiance on the reverse side.

  319. plowman: Actually I hate Michael Steele because he’s the RNC chair and has been kowtowing to the Limbaugh and Hannity crowd at a time when those folks are veering into whacko “let’s start a violent revolution” territory. It really pisses me off.

And Alan Keyes is just fucking nuts. I sort of feel sorry for him, except when he’s prattling on about abortion. Then he really lets his hate flag fly and it’s hard not to have a visceral hateful reaction.

OTOH, the folks who are raging the loudest about Van Jones are the same ones who have been saying Obama hates white people, not to mention calling liberals reverse-racists for decades . I believe the phrase you used, “reap what you sow”, is quite accurate here.

Now, I don’t feel too sorry for old Van here, for some of the reasons you mentioned actually, but the rest of your statement is grade-A BS. I kind of think you know it, too.

  321. RoscoePColtraine says at 7:56 pm, September 7th, 2009

plowman: Yeah, about that, uh, could you enlighten me as to why a (sane) grown adult would want to go around washing other men’s feet? Is it a fetish? I’m aware that Jesus washed his disciple’s feet, but he probably had the same fetish, and anyhoo, that was a whole different era. But it didn’t bother me personally that Ashcroft had a foot fetish, as the fact that he wrote this crappy piece of shit excuse of a song. That was more than enough reason to haul his ass back to the snake handling backwater he sprang from. To stay O/T, did Van ever pull shit out of the toilet and smear it to paper, then claim to have composed music? If not, I’d be cool with it if he hung around a while.

  322. imissopus says at 7:57 pm, September 7th, 2009

plowman: I hate to contribute to this meandering humor-free thread, but your Ashcroft comparison is a false equivalency. Van Jones was working on green jobs initiatives while John Ashcroft ran the Justice Department and was the most powerful law-enforcement official in the country, and there was concern that he carried out his duties from a biblical perspective wholly at odds with that whole “separation of church and state” thing you may have heard about. Saying ye have reaped what you sowed is an insultingly flip way of dismissing the point.

As for Keyes and Steele, neither one of them is either as accomplished or anywhere close to the same intellectual class as Obama. Keyes is a full-fledged Birther and religious nut, and Steele is just a buffoon who lacks a basic understanding of many of the issues he’s talking about and an ego wholly out of proportion with his accomplishments. And yeah, I also hate him because he plays for the wrong side. Couldn’t care less about either man’s skin color; they’re just as dumb as Limbaugh or Beck or Hannity or Breitbart.

The hatred of Obama is in a class by itself, but I’m not going to take the time or space to write a sociological essay on the reasons why. Just know that your assertion that the whole racist thing is “transparent and stupid” is wrong for a list of reasons longer than the cumulative length of the warehouse full of lightly salted rat dicks I now invite you to eat.

  331. 2 things to remember guys.

1: Glen Beck is a child molesting Cannibal. Granted, his favored prey is young boys (between the ages of 3 and 5, I’m told) but Van Jones is a big black liberal. That’s like a giant chocolate Easter bunny for a hell-spawn flesh eater like Beck. Without Secret Service protection, what chance did Van have, really? I understand at this moment Van is fleeing for the Canadian border where the socialized medicines act as a silver plated garlic crucifix to conservatives like Beck, he need only worry about Sara Palin and her liberal hunting helicopter at this point. I hope all of you will join me in the following…

    Run Van! RUN!!!!

2: The battle is health care. Sometimes, to take a hill, you have to accept some casualties. We can’t stop the offensive to medivac Van to safety, he’s standing on a landmine, to quote my favorite Sgt in full metal jacket,”when he lifts his foot, it’s going to go off. Get away from him, he’s a dead man”.
Maybe that was Boys of Company C, as I come to think of it, but what the hell, this is the Internet, if a say it’s a line from Full Metal Jacket, then that’s what it is.

You have contractors drinking out of each other’s assholes, but apparently that’s too much a challenge for the witty here…I like how you think I give a damn about what you think..and for the record, only commenting on what’s funny…isn’t funny. Good luck posers.

Dude, you’re post 125, 144 and 205 of 270. Newell will likely hit the PC literally bleeding from every orifice after a long weekend of rough sex, vodka and mescaline, immediately google “trig Palin” and in moments (perhaps sooner), this entire thread will disappear into the memory hole that is the Library of Congress and everybody will attempt to go back to the funny (with varying levels of success).
If you want the ban hammer, try linking to your blog. The Gods of Wonkette really hate that, being incontinent and unfunny is not normally a ban hammer level infraction, it’s just considered bush league and not really notable.

  348. RoscoePColtraine: Thought they were one and the same, to hear Baptists tell it they are the only real Christians. I think we all completely understand your discomfort with Ashcroft’s songcraft but what part of “Though it’s not even on the same scale (attorney general vs. advisor/basketball-pal…” can’t you grasp? If Van is such a peon then why the enormous outpouring of angst in this strange thread? Because Hopey is smart enough to retire a very junior person who’s source of pointless controversy when he needs everyone’s attention focused on things that actually matter? Or do you lunatics actually think this is a great injustice done a great man by the evil Bushies who actually run the world from the secret underground Skull and Bones command center? The guy is a loudmouth who doesn’t pay attention to what he’s getting involved with, he never should’ve been there, there’s only so much room for folk like him AND Joe Biden in one administration… (damn it, those caps again)

Grew up in the hood, didn’t think the fair had them too, although they’re creepily attached to their nightspots. They seem to always want to bouncers to feel you up extra good, and still look like you don’t belong there. Still, you people don’t know me. I’m like 210 of muscle with a great disposition, but I just have a bullshit allergy. I don’t get how anon people love to talk shit, and if someone without cause calls me a bitch again, I’ll provide my address to settle this out. If I say on topic, I expect others to do the same. Be funny around me, there’s plenty for everyone. I know much of the snark comes from dwelling from the closet, but I get too much vitrol directed from me just for living. I need some time off. Now if I was shitty enough to vent at a member, I could understand the treatment. But you lot wanted me to take it personally, and I have.

  356. dijetlo: Word. It’s hard to tell coming into realm of others, but I try to be respectful. I had only ranted twice, then interacted. Sorry if that doesn’t fit in your micro-jet setter world, but constantly seeing the lame attack the minor is also boring and tedious. I get you don’t like Denby, but damn, stop fucking projecting your lack of any awareness on me. I understand how you fucks feel already. I’ve said so. Still, I’m interacting, I’m not going to pack up and go cause a few morons want jokes. They have plenty of immediate resources.

El Pinche: Dude, in three months I’ll be happier than you’ll ever know. And a lot higher. There’s plenty of threads with issues I haven’t spoke about. I know that’s what these attacks are about, but I was through venting. This place will not be a home for me. I won’t have to attack people for cred…I’m just not that sad, despite the current discourse. Have fun though, not being sarcastic but there’s much to gain for it. I wish you lot well.

The point is that the controversy is pointless. Yes, Van Jones was forced out. Yes, it was Glenda Beck et al who stirred the pot. We’re not here to argue the reality of it, we’re here to mock and ridicule the stupidity of it. There is a very good reason why you failed to grasp this.

I admit I was ignorant about this place, it was the first that popped up on Google when I saw the news on MSNBC (it was breaking then, it’s just heartbreaking to see how the libs and other americans eat each other here now, but I’m in the wrong place). I never knew “failure pile in a sadness bowl” could be applied to a person..

  393. dijetlo: I am not a guy, and I’m pretty sure I’m doing it right. At least i haven’t gotten any complaints. And, as a female (if not a lady) I have to say that just the idea of 8 hour orgasms and tantric sex sessions makes me chapped and sore.

  394. LoweredPeninsula says at 11:54 pm, September 7th, 2009

I’m like 210 of muscle with a great disposition, but I just have a bullshit allergy. I don’t get how anon people love to talk shit, and if someone without cause calls me a bitch again, I’ll provide my address to settle this out.”

How in the hell did I miss that? It’s fucking comedic GOLD! You ain’t lookin’ for a fight, you’re looking for dick, son! “210 of muscle with a great disposition but I just have a bullshit allergy.” sounds like one of the many freaky Craig’s list personals, to me.

    Oh, “fat bitch”. Also.

  395. Smoke Filled Roommate says at 11:56 pm, September 7th, 2009

LoweredPeninsula: Bullshit allergy means he’s a bottom.

  396. memzilla: AMC = American Movie Channel, right? Heh-heh. Oh golly, I’ve wasted my life. :)

  397. dijetlo: “You’re internet Uncle is seriously unimpressed, Gup”

What, do you expect me to spend my entire weekend posting in some warblog thread? Oh, wait…

It’s not like I was getting laid in high school! Or college! Or lately!

  398. El Pinche says at 12:00 am, September 8th, 2009

    RoscoePColtraine , Cicada:

    :) I like blog like I fuck. …? almost.

  399. Is this one of those 72 hour avant garde art things? Because it is sort of funny in a 1974 kind of way. If it isn’t then we’re going to have to pull this car over and make you kids ride up top with Seamus for a few miles.

  401. 102415: Shhhhh….don’t ruin the surprise. We have Andy Kaufman’s zombie waiting in the wings. He’s gonna totally blow the socks off of everyone by wrestling mrsinnister!

    Too soon?

  402. Guppy06: HAHAHA DISREGARD THAT, I SUCK COCKS

  403. El Pinche says at 12:10 am, September 8th, 2009

102415: I wish I could see Layne’s and Newell’s faces when they see the El Topo of threads.

  404. Mr Blifil says at 12:10 am, September 8th, 2009

mrsinnister: That impressive monologue will sound much better when you are reading it aloud as I sit on your face.

  405. the problem child says at 12:11 am, September 8th, 2009

And on the eighth day, wonkette rested.

  406. El Pinche: An El Topo reference? I fucking love you.

  407. Quasi: I saw what I wanted to see.

  408. El Pinche says at 12:28 am, September 8th, 2009

Cicada: Tonight, we’re all female dwarfs.

  409. lulzmonger says at 12:31 am, September 8th, 2009

When a Wonkette thread & a long weekend love each other very very much, something magical & mysterious happens … & I missed it.

Ooh-WHEE. A thread as big as a pornstar’s schlong, complete with ubiquitous prolix InternetToughGuy.

Anyone make a joke about the rising rate of black-on-black political violence yet? No? Then neither will I.

  410. Bearbloke says at 12:53 am, September 8th, 2009

El Pinche: Cicada: El Topo is far more rational and coherent than this thread… but don’t trust me, cos I’m just a dirty furriner - see for yourself!

  411. LoweredPeninsula says at 12:59 am, September 8th, 2009

    Mr Blifil: Bwhahaha!

Hellish car wrecks are the best car wrecks. Somewhere in Hell (most certainly the non-minority section of Hell), Nixon is jerking off and laughing in pure ecstasy at this sadism.

  412. pinko-commie says at 1:00 am, September 8th, 2009

mrsinnister: [Insert humorless insult here.] Your mama, also.

Can we get to 1,000 ridiculous, insulting posts, people? I need something to hope for, now that a government-sponsored healthcare plan is hopeless.

  413. RoscoePColtraine says at 1:04 am, September 8th, 2009

I have one big muscle that people say has a relatively pleasant disposition.

    Also, bitch.

  416. Is this much-vaunted bullshit allergy some sort of environmental sensitivity like chronic fatigue, or some sort of electromagnetism-based bullshit, like an allergy to radio waves?

  417. mrsinnister says at 1:52 am, September 8th, 2009

I’m just waiting until some adult realizes this isn’t really a funny topic in the first place and just is the better person and just move on. Pretty much the conflict killed what was dying anyway.

  418. mrsinnister says at 1:55 am, September 8th, 2009

Again, there’s like Kabul assdrinkers up there just asking for it..lol. What’s this really all about? I know I encroached on the club but DAAAAYYYYYYMMMMMM, I’ve never seen so many closet cases needing to vent on the new person. I have other shit to do now…won’t be back..keep blasting away until you come out or get cum into, don’t care.

  419. Rats. Mrs. Innister is leaving us! And I was starting to warm to her too. I’m sure, given time, we could have dropped the hostility and come closer as human beings. Maybe even grown to appreciate each other’s better qualities, not to mention learned some valuable lessons about friendship, judgement, and eating a bag of dicks.

  420. shortsshortsshorts says at 2:17 am, September 8th, 2009

You’re a cruel lot of savage beasts. If anything, no less than 25 of you should receive the gas chamber. THERE ARE LAWS, you brutes. You cannot lead somebody into the realm of suicide. Poor, poor “mrsinnister.” You fucks got hold of the news and ate her faster than a plate of deep-fried buffalo wings. You should be ashamed. While however that machine was pumping out strange, innate piles of human cum, you cannot blame the machine. The very fact that it existed is a scorn for us all to bear. To hell, the whole lot of you.

  421. idiot son of an asshole says at 2:21 am, September 8th, 2009

mrsinnister: You are starting to remind of any number of commenter on youtube.
Don’t you get that this site isn’t about ‘winning’ arguments yet?

  422. El Pinche says at 2:21 am, September 8th, 2009

Bearbloke: Yes, it’s an insult to Jodorowsky. This thread is more like Mannequin 2: On the Move.

mrsinnister: “Give me cheekbones, or give me death! “

  423. El Pinche says at 2:23 am, September 8th, 2009

I dont know about “innate piles of human cum”, more like a sticky sock.

  424. idiot son of an asshole says at 2:23 am, September 8th, 2009

idiot son of an asshole: proofread your posts, jackass.

  425. I want heads to roll for this thread.

Won’t Ken or Jim please feed my bloodlust? Pretty please? We haven’t had nice public executions in a while.

  426. Holy shit this thread.

    There will be blood.

  427. LoweredPeninsula says at 4:54 am, September 8th, 2009

Awwww…no fair, mrsinister. You brightened up what was an otherwise boring Labor Day weekend (given that so many folks are unemployed, these days). And, since everyone that criticized you is a homosexaul, threaten the board with some more physical violence; speak dirty to us, chump. Come back, chump; daddy like.

  428. house of the blue lights says at 8:37 am, September 8th, 2009

Si it was ok for Dick Cheney to tell Patrick Leahy to go fuck himself on the floor of the Senate, but it wasn’t ok for Van Jones to call Repbulicans assholes years before he got a White House job? When are the fucking Democrats going to grow a pair? The Republicans and their lackeys have been practicing this kind of intimidation for decades and no one stands up to them. There is only one way to deal with a bully. Kick his ass, and he crawls away crying. Let’s get to it. Fuck them, they are assholes.

  433. DoktorZoom: Dead rabbits, dwarves and heavy black clothes in the desert.Drunk will be better than stoned I know that for a fact.
