Tampa Town Hall Packed To Rafters With Yelling Nutballs

by Sara K. Smith

Here, here is one of a bajillion videos out on the Web about Town Hall meetings full of belligerent shouting jackasses. People are just animals. (Especially in Florida.) [CNN]

Nice to see that the common man is so in touch with the insurance-industry-drafted GOP talking points. No manipulation here at all, no sir, pure grassroots activism.

Be curious to know how many Repubicans are holding face to face town halls. My Repubican Senator is only doing them over the telephone.

hobospacejunkie August 7, 2009 at 11:33 am

So how long has it been obvious that this will happen at pretty much any town hall? And they still haven’t figgered out how to keep these clowns out?

So will Obama step up his game to get a good bill passed or, as seems more likely, will he just pawn off health care failure on the nutburgers, neatly side-stepping the complete lack of discipline in the party he should be controlling? He’s going on vacation, so I choose Plan B. Bye-bye real change in health care.

Today, we are all Joe the Plumber, meaning self-righteous Republican plants paid to bray GOP messaging in public places. Our name is really Sam, and we are not certified plumbers, also.

memzilla August 7, 2009 at 11:37 am

I like the idea of having black cops deciding that white wingtards constitute a threat to public safety in these town hall disruptions. Especially in the South.

It p***es off the Glen Becks of the world while neatly reversing 300+ years of racism, which is, of course, the root cause of these town hall putsches in the first place.

[disclaimer: I myself am OG... Old Guy (OWG, if you want to get technical)].

Really gotta hand it to TPM for their dick move of plastering the still image of the black policeman yelling at the little old white lady on their front page. YAYYYY FOR OUR SIDE!!!!

ExecutorElassus August 7, 2009 at 11:44 am

See, this is why the Democrats will consistently get their asses handed to them in every debate: they think that everybody can just sit around a roundtable, say their piece, listen to one another, and reach consensus through mutual respect. Republicans know that they can just yell louder and more frequently, and eventually they’ll win. They’re not playing out of the same rulebook.

I wonder how long it will be before the Republicans in Congress start using the same tactic. They could bring everything to a halt, and then win the next election running against the dysfunction they created.

I only ask because the shrieking woman featured prominently in the first minute of the video said something about cancer, as though she knew someone who had it (husband?). [re=380783]AnnieGetYourFun[/re]: One of the wingnut talking points is that the US has better cancer survival rates than Great Britain. Beck and Hannity have both been pounding that one.
Surprisingly, neither of them has felt the need to point out that France and Japan have very similar cancer survival rates to the US (slightly lower), or that the poor and uninsured in the US have much worse cancer survival rates than everyone in Great Britain. Ha-ha, why would they do that?
Complex issues are hard, telling people they’ll die of cancer because of Obamacare is easy.

Great Article!
I really am starting to miss John Edwards. I don’t care who he blanks. Really. Edwards mantra during the Prez campaign was: I will not under any circumstances negotiate with insurance companies, pharma companies or hospitals. He considered them criminals. Now look at this mess. How does this administration expect to pass Health Care Reform after months of screaming Rovian insurance tactics? Did you all see Olbermans list of the paid off Congress, and how much each member is getting paid by the Health Insurance Industry, including a bunch of Dems? He is the only pissed off person on T.V except for Bill Mahr & Ed Schultz. Where is Ted Kennedy this is suppsosed to be his baby?

[re=380797]fromhils[/re]: Nah, that stuff was for pussies: they just wouldn’t vote for anything. I’m talking about actually screaming and *losing their goddamn shit* every time a Democrat opens his/her mouth on the House/Senate floor.

As I recall, Republicans didn’t shut down the government until after they took power, and it blew up in their faces. This way would be much more fun:

Committee Chair (D-Wherever): we now open the floor to consider HR-256…¹
Nutball (R-Jesusland): Boooo! SOCIALISM!!1!
*bedlam*

¹Note that – typical to Democrat style – the Committee chair will just keep droning on about the bill as if nothing is happening.

Say what you will about John Edwards this would have been done in Feb. or the minute Franken became a real Senator. Edwards said he would take the Congress’s health care away from them if they didn’t pass reform. Where is John Edwards &/or Teddy Roosevelt when you need them?

As someone who lives down here in “God’s waiting room” THIS is all anybody talks about, especially the over 60 crowd. These codgers are pissed but don’t be too scured, they’re all in bed after the early bird special so you won’t be seeing them on the teevees at night holding torches and throwing their adult diapers or bedpans around. They only venture out in the daylight, so to solve the town hall disruption dilemma, my advice is to hold them after 10 p.m.

Rev. Peter Lemonjello August 7, 2009 at 1:07 pm

Living in Florida, Sarah, I can tell you this is the EXACT scene that plays out when they change from lunch to dinner prices at the Golden Corral. No surprises here.

Nerdalicious August 7, 2009 at 1:10 pm

Whatever. There are no angry voices in this White House & Congress over this Fail. The only angry voices on giving a damn about sick poor people were John Edwards, and a handful of TV news people. There will be a split screen as I said above with the screaming mobs & Prez lounging at the cape. Pelosi had the guts to say Congress should stay in session in August to finish this. The rest of them are cutting and running. I’m disgusted. I’m not the only one here who sees the writing on the wall, read the other posts.

Dreamer August 7, 2009 at 1:16 pm

Nerdalicious August 7, 2009 at 1:19 pm

Marthas Vineyard has been a Kennedy haunt for decades along with the Cape. Jackie Kennedy had a house there. The Clintons vacationed with the Kennedys there. Please don’t try to tell me that Prez won’t be hanging out with the Kennedys on vacation. He will & it looks bad with this Health Reform fail going on while he’s gone.
