Nice to see that the common man is so in touch with the insurance-industry-drafted GOP talking points. No manipulation here at all, no sir, pure grassroots activism.

  2. StripesAndPlaids

Be curious to know how many Repubicans are holding face to face town halls. My Repubican Senator is only doing them over the telephone.

  3. hobospacejunkie

So how long has it been obvious that this will happen at pretty much any town hall? And they still haven’t figgered out how to keep these clowns out?

So will Obama step up his game to get a good bill passed or, as seems more likely, will he just pawn off health care failure on the nutburgers, neatly side-stepping the complete lack of discipline in the party he should be controlling? He’s going on vacation, so I choose Plan B. Bye-bye real change in health care.

  4. AbstinenceOnly Ed

Today, we are all Joe the Plumber, meaning self-righteous Republican plants paid to bray GOP messaging in public places. Our name is really Sam, and we are not certified plumbers, also.

  5. memzilla

I like the idea of having black cops deciding that white wingtards constitute a threat to public safety in these town hall disruptions. Especially in the South.

It p***es off the Glen Becks of the world while neatly reversing 300+ years of racism, which is, of course, the root cause of these town hall putsches in the first place.

[disclaimer: I myself am OG... Old Guy (OWG, if you want to get technical)].

  6. LittlePig

The old Roman that said “democracy will only last until the people learn they can vote themselves bread and circuses” was shooting *way* too low. All it takes is juice to AM broadcast towers.

  7. eclecticbrotha

Really gotta hand it to TPM for their dick move of plastering the still image of the black policeman yelling at the little old white lady on their front page. YAYYYY FOR OUR SIDE!!!!

    Idjuts.

  8. norbizness

Bum: Got any spare change, man?

Grandpa Simpson: Yes! And you ain’t gettin’ it. Everybody wants something for nothing. [walks into the social security building] I’m old! Gimme gimme gimme!

  9. ExecutorElassus

See, this is why the Democrats will consistently get their asses handed to them in every debate: they think that everybody can just sit around a roundtable, say their piece, listen to one another, and reach consensus through mutual respect. Republicans know that they can just yell louder and more frequently, and eventually they’ll win. They’re not playing out of the same rulebook.

I wonder how long it will be before the Republicans in Congress start using the same tactic. They could bring everything to a halt, and then win the next election running against the dysfunction they created.

  11. RoscoePColtraine

Basically what their doing is what we do all the time here at Wonkette, only they do it in public to each other’s faces. It’s quite fun really.

  12. LittlePig

[re=380757]StoneAge[/re]: I was a bit taken aback by all the surprise about Gog and Magog. I remember Georgie saying that stuff on television back in 2003. Maybe it was only broadcast here in Jeebusland.

  13. bearbait

Wow. Just fuckin’ Wow. Pretty soon some nutjob will kill someone and the right-wing-noise-machine will say, “See! I told you Obamacare would kill you!”

I hope the rest of the middle of the road majority is getting as sick and frightened of these whacks as I am.

I am not an expert on the philosophical foundations of modern American dialectic. When was it, exactly, that it got so retarded?

  16. blader

screw the crazies…i’d just like the dems to hurry up and finish their forced euthanasia abortion bill so we can get the pogroms started

  17. Monsieur Grumpe

See that all you communist countries out there? That’s democracy in action. Get with it or eat carpet bombs pinkos.

  18. AnnieGetYourFun

[re=380772]finallyhappy[/re]: I have my money on under aged, for sure.

I was able to watch exactly 1:14 of that video before remembering how much I hate people, but how do we know that all the screaming people were Republican plants? And don’t say “logic”. I only ask because the shrieking woman featured prominently in the first minute of the video said something about cancer, as though she knew someone who had it (husband?). I could be crazy, but maybe she actually was attempting to get a word in edgewise about reform?

  19. Kaylub

If they were wearing pink and shouting about stopping war, wouldn’t they just be cold getting tasered and arrested left and right?

  20. LittlePig

[re=380779]SmutBoffin[/re]: About the time the 24 hour news cycle got cameras out next to the Wendy’s so that the Republican base can express their opinions without getting out of line at the buffet.

[re=380784]AnnieGetYourFun[/re]: No way. Look at Byrd and Thurmond- they were dead and Byrd is still in the Senate. I guess Thurmond started to rot so they had to move him out.

  22. EdFlinstone

Clearly when our founders began the townhall concept they envisioned one side screaming so there would be no questions and answers, just fucking yelling and screaming and birth certificates in plastic ziploc bags. Cue Lee Greenwood song…….

  23. hobospacejunkie

  25. fromhils

ExecutorElassus: that sounds familiar I think cause its exactly how they took congress in 94 and eventually got W. “elected”…

  26. Advocatus_Diaboli

This reminds me of that time when John Adams was going on about the virtues of an independent judiciary while Bill Blount and the rest of the North Carolina delegation shouted and yelled the pledge of allegiance. Was it Pickney or Rutledge who had his birf certificate in a zip-lock?

  27. Hominidx

Man, that was so disappointing – loony talking points, but simply loud arguing vs. exploding into a gooey mess!

  28. spencer

It will be sad when all these teabaggers get ass cancer and get kicked off of their insurance.

    Actually, it won’t.

  29. Car Ramrod

[re=380799]Advocatus_Diaboli[/re]: Which proves that they were British citizens. Which makes them ineligible for the 2008 election. Orly needs to get on this tip, stat.

  30. SmutBoffin

Jeez, I do not oppose minority opinion-holders resorting to disobedient/guerrilla tactics when their voices are systematically excluded from the debate, but you Republican twits do not qualify. Your mealy-mouthed representatives are on the TeeVee, all day long, shoving your fucktarded policies in our faces. WE GET IT YOU DON’T WANT TO SIGN UP FOR A GOV’T PROGRAM, WADDYA WANT FROM US?

  31. honkyman

This reminds me of back in the sixties when the CIA handed out liberal doses of bad acid to the crazies so they could disrupt the well-reasoned deliberations of the SDS etc.

OTOH everything reminds me of the sixties these days. I think it’s my hippocampal prostheses leaking…

  32. Cicada

[re=380783]AnnieGetYourFun[/re]: One of the wingnut talking points is that the US has better cancer survival rates than Great Britain. Beck and Hannity have both been pounding that one.
Surprisingly, neither of them has felt the need to point out that France and Japan have very similar cancer survival rates to the US (slightly lower), or that the poor and uninsured in the US have much worse cancer survival rates than everyone in Great Britain. Ha-ha, why would they do that?
Complex issues are hard, telling people they’ll die of cancer because of Obamacare is easy.

  35. Nerdalicious

I call these anti-health care paid by the insurance industry town criers angry mobs “The Night of the Sick Fat Ass” because they are mostly olds being paid 1.4 mill daily by the insurance companies to scream their lungs out about nothing. Fail. Also, most of them are on Medicare which is Socialism don’t ‘cha know and they are shuffling off this earth soon from being old and sick and they don’t care about who they leave behind to suffer. These screaming mostly Grey panthers are narcissistic lunatics.

  36. Slobodan Milobsterchopz

On the bright side, this is Tampa, so most of these people will be dead soon, right?

    Great Article!
I really am starting to miss John Edwards. I don’t care who he blanks. Really. Edwards mantra during the Prez campaign was: I will not under any circumstances negotiate with insurance companies, pharma companies or hospitals. He considered them criminals. Now look at this mess. How does this administration expect to pass Health Care Reform after months of screaming Rovian insurance tactics? Did you all see Olbermans list of the paid off Congress, and how much each member is getting paid by the Health Insurance Industry, including a bunch of Dems? He is the only pissed off person on T.V except for Bill Mahr & Ed Schultz. Where is Ted Kennedy this is suppsosed to be his baby?

  41. ExecutorElassus

[re=380797]fromhils[/re]: Nah, that stuff was for pussies: they just wouldn’t vote for anything. I’m talking about actually screaming and *losing their goddamn shit* every time a Democrat opens his/her mouth on the House/Senate floor.

As I recall, Republicans didn’t shut down the government until after they took power, and it blew up in their faces. This way would be much more fun:

Committee Chair (D-Wherever): we now open the floor to consider HR-256…¹
    Nutball (R-Jesusland): Boooo! SOCIALISM!!1!
    *bedlam*

¹Note that – typical to Democrat style – the Committee chair will just keep droning on about the bill as if nothing is happening.

    [re=380792]ExecutorElassus[/re]: Excellent link.

“He’s going on vacation, so I choose Plan B. Bye-bye real change in health care.”
I can’t believe this insanity is going on because he just has to vacation in Martha’s Vineyard with the Kennedys, instead of keeping everyone in session in August until Health Reform is passed. This was supposed to be Ted Kennedy’s baby? Where is his voice?
Say what you will about John Edwards this would have been done in Feb. or the minute Franken became a real Senator. Edwards said he would take the Congress’s health care away from them if they didn’t pass reform. Where is John Edwards &/or Teddy Roosevelt when you need them?

  44. Joshua Norton

Good thing I already have health care. I think I threw my back out from cringing at all that audible ignorance.

  45. Dreamer

My friends and I were attemptng to change the lyrics of coldplay’s song “viva la vida” to document the fall of the GOP – because we were so drink nothing useful came out of it (they were drunk, I was stoned because as a good half muslin I cannot drink) but we still think it is a good idea.

  46. Nerdalicious

I do not want to see a split screen of Prez on vacation in Marthas Vineyard with the angry screaming anti-health care mobs loonies. It will happen believe it. Very bad.

  47. DoctorCulturae

[re=380857]Nerdalicious[/re]: Interesting. Another major Dem project shot down cause some guy couldn’t keep it in his pants?

Imagine if Edwards was clean(er), he might have gotten a post in the cabinet to do just that: be the bad cop at those guys, as he said he would. Of course it’s fantasy. The slime he could have hurled at the Med Cabal he threw at himself. Sheriff Taylor is upset.

As someone who lives down here in “God’s waiting room” THIS is all anybody talks about, especially the over 60 crowd. These codgers are pissed but don’t be too scured, they’re all in bed after the early bird special so you won’t be seeing them on the teevees at night holding torches and throwing their adult diapers or bedpans around. They only venture out in the daylight, so to solve the town hall disruption dilemma, my advice is to hold them after 10 p.m.

  55. Rev. Peter Lemonjello

Living in Florida, Sarah, I can tell you this is the EXACT scene that plays out when they change from lunch to dinner prices at the Golden Corral. No surprises here.

  56. Nerdalicious

Whatever. There are no angry voices in this White House & Congress over this Fail. The only angry voices on giving a damn about sick poor people were John Edwards, and a handful of TV news people. There will be a split screen as I said above with the screaming mobs & Prez lounging at the cape. Pelosi had the guts to say Congress should stay in session in August to finish this. The rest of them are cutting and running. I’m disgusted. I’m not the only one here who sees the writing on the wall, read the other posts.

  57. Nerdalicious

Marthas Vineyard has been a Kennedy haunt for decades along with the Cape. Jackie Kennedy had a house there. The Clintons vacationed with the Kennedys there. Please don’t try to tell me that Prez won’t be hanging out with the Kennedys on vacation. He will & it looks bad with this Health Reform fail going on while he’s gone.

  58. Tundra Grifter

Wait, wasn’t there one big debate that they won? What was it called? Oh, yeah: The 2008 Presidential Election. You know, it’s that thing, that when you win it, the other side becomes the minority and doesn’t get to call the shots anymore.

I was thinking last night, how it’s kinda “funny” that little old hippy ladies who make human chains at anti-war protests get arrested, but these vicious little talking-point spouting bullies get to disrupt shit with no consequences at all, all in the name of the mega-rich insurance companies who are in direct conflict with their own interests.
