Great. I’m breathlessly awaiting a Politico headline saying “Obama Won. Get Over It.” Turning blue….

Politico really is the asscrack-lint of the news world.

  9. SayItWithWookies says at 1:16 pm, June 15th, 2009

“Moreover, these irregularities do not, in themselves, amount to electoral fraud even by American legal standards. And, compared to the U.S. presidential election in Florida in 2000, the flaws in Iran’s electoral process seem less significant.”

Hey everybody, calm down. Politico says the Iranian election is more legitimate than Florida 2000. I’m going to go drink some formaldehyde in an effort to get that to make sense.

  10. Tell it to the marines.

And yet, and yet, Politico *does* have two other articles “Iran’s Election Process a ’sham’” by John Bolton and another quoting John Sidney, father of the lovely Megan, stating it’s a ’sham’, as well. Politico is all over the board on this and fails to win the afternoon.

    Other possible titles:

Revolution is futile! Ask the Paultards.

Ayatoldya to accept the Supreme Leaders’ election results.

Hussein is insane if the thinks he won, ’cause he didn’t.

Who needs free speech? It’s totally overrated, case in point this website. Also.

  18. Scarab says at 1:22 pm, June 15th, 2009

Politico also has an article by McCain saying the election is ‘a sham’ so expect the fighting and violence to continue… among the GOP.

  19. That would be such a burn, if anyone in Iran stopped rioting long enough to read Politico.

    Reformists will rue the day
    Once again, a sham
    Florida=Iran.

  23. Rosie Scenario says at 1:28 pm, June 15th, 2009

Is Antonin Scalia writing a guest post for Politico? This is just what he said re: Bush v. Gore. That turned out well, didn’t it?

    Iran: NO U

  27. Politico needs to rethink about what is newsworthy!

  28. Patton says at 1:44 pm, June 15th, 2009

Politico to Iranian protesters: ‘Go f%@# yourselves with large rusty pieces of metal and aluminum baseball bats for wanting to have a fair election.’

Iranian protesters to Politico: ‘Who the hell are you, and why should we give a shit about what you think?’

  29. Extemporanus says at 1:47 pm, June 15th, 2009

Politco really needs to hire better proof readers. They spelled “Armand Assante” totally wrong.

  30. Vulpes82 says at 1:51 pm, June 15th, 2009

I love how this is in the “Ideas” section. Because “Yeah, Iran, just suck on it already!” is one of the Great Ideas of Our Time. Surely our children’s children will have to read, or at least download into their brains, this history-shaking expression of Ideas, the better to know that to rebel against the Overmind and its Benevolent Robot Overseers is futile and juvenile and they should just “Get over it!” (And by “it,” I mean endless toil as slaves in the TruckNuts mines of Altair V.)

  31. Perot le fou says at 1:52 pm, June 15th, 2009

Read the article. He’s absolutely right. There’s no proof at all of any rigging. All the articles that say otherwise just name “irregularities” but mention nothing specific. Khatami won re-election with 80% of the vote and no one called that election a sham.

How does Iranian security forces killing students prove the elections were rigged? Because if the elections had been generally fair and the students rioted anyway, the government would have been totally cool with it?

I’d love for there to be a secular democratic left-wing revolution in Iran. It won’t go well if that revolution is based on a lie though.

  32. SayItWithWookies says at 1:52 pm, June 15th, 2009

  33. Mr Blifil says at 1:54 pm, June 15th, 2009

Well if the New America Foundation is saying it, it must be so. Good on the New America Foundation for conducting a meaningless poll in May, and correctly taking the political temperature in Iran and so presciently pointing out the likelihood of mass uprising. Oh waitaminnit…

It is amusing that Flynn Leverett tries to get cute and suggest that any possible voter fraud in Iran fails to meet the US legal standard for voter fraud and that Florida 2000 was EXPONENTIALLY WORSE. I think a few people had formed that opinion already.

  34. Mr Blifil says at 1:55 pm, June 15th, 2009

Perot le fou: That’s why the guys on motorcycles are turning out to beat on women with steel pipes. For the electoral legitimacy.

  35. hobospacejunkie says at 1:59 pm, June 15th, 2009

Some clown kept tweeting this same sentence, Ahmadinejad won get over it, many times last night. So I personal-tweeted him, suggesting he take Ali Khamenei’s dick out of his mouth and have a look around. I received no reply so it was probably a fagbot re-tweeting the same crap every few minutes. Or else after Khamenei’s dick he moved on to one of the other bags of clerical leader dicks waiting for his attention.

  36. Monsieur Grumpe says at 1:59 pm, June 15th, 2009

80% of the people voted, the vote counting is all done by hand and they declared the counting was done 2 hours after the poles closed, yeah, right.

  37. Perot le fou says at 2:01 pm, June 15th, 2009

So what’s your angle? You think you’re standing up to the neo-conservatives? How does Iran being a dictatorship that rigs its elections play an less into neo-conservatives’ hands?

  38. norbizness says at 2:08 pm, June 15th, 2009

I assume, as do all non-brain damaged Americans, that the best course of action is to see how John McCain (who personally knew Emperors Darius and Xerxes) reacts, and then do the opposite. And here it is: WE SHOULD ACT, meaning the policy formulation is not to act.

  39. Hooray For Anything says at 2:14 pm, June 15th, 2009

Mr Blifil: I feel much better knowing that our elections are more rigged than the Iranian elections. Good thing the writers and Politico have been doing so much work lately in exposing all of the problems with our electoral process and exposing the 2000 election for the sham that it was.

    Oh wait.

  40. glamourdammerung says at 2:20 pm, June 15th, 2009

  43. FLYNT LEVERETT and HILLARY MANN LEVERETT must think the footage of Iranian outrages is simply a massive hallucinatory projection of Western distaste at Ahmadi.

It’s the same attitude displayed when Bush “won” twice.

  45. trondant says at 2:32 pm, June 15th, 2009

And let me add that this is worse than FLA 2000. It’s more like Ohio 2004. In both cases (Ohio & Iran), an incumbent asshat redneck belligerent fundie motherfucker who was already a known and loathed quantity shit all over democracy and thereby secured a second term.

Everybody in the streets there is out there because they exactly what’s in store over the next term, just like we did in ‘04. At least they have some fucking balls about it.

The so-called “main stream media” didn’t want the rubes over here to see graphically how citizenry is willing to take to the streets in attempting to reclaim their “democracy.” Nothing to see here, move along now, is the watch-word on the teevee…

    Suck it, Politico!

norbizness: WIN for ref to Emperor Darius & Xerxes! ha!

  51. sad tortoise says at 1:21 pm, June 16th, 2009

If everyone would calm the fuck down and read the damn article, it actually makes a lot of sense.

  52. sad tortoise says at 1:26 pm, June 16th, 2009

Which is to say: Ahmadinejad was in the lead in pre-election polling, and there’s no real evidence that the election was rigged. Basically a bunch of Western media elites talked to a bunch of upper-middle-class urbanites in Iran, assumed they were representative of the rest of the country, and reacted with shock when it turned out that this wasn’t going to be another purple-finger-waving color-coded youth revolution.

The bottom line is we have to deal with Iran regardless of who’s running it. So Ahmadinejad DID win, and we SHOULD get over it.
