- And what did DHS secretary Janet Napolitano actually say about the pandemic yesterday? [LAT Top of the Ticket]
- Hey great news everyone, the economy will likely decline “for some time,” so we’ll all have a chance to enjoy it again and again and again. [Bloomberg]
- With concessions from the United Auto Workers, Chrysler is one step further from bankruptcy. [CNN]

- Californian victims of Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme would like to have back the taxes they paid on all their imaginary earnings. [Los Angeles Times]

Scrapping Pontiac is a great idea. After all Buick is so much more classy.
“The Courses at Andrews Air Force Base…Its three 18-hole courses are a part of the base’s recreation program for military personnel and Defense Department employees.”
Now why isn’t the GOP upset about this government waste? Oh, its part of the “miltary budget”
Bruno: hey! my pimp drives a Pontiac!
Bruno: Nah, stuff like golf courses don’t come out of the defense budget. Comes out of profits from base stores, so the military members pay for it. Now, tying up a bunch of taxable land, THAT comes out of local pockets, but they usually are willing to trade it for the dollars that bases inject into the local economy.
Buttseks.
I’m confused: Bush didn’t play golf to honor the troops (although they caught him on film playing golf) & Barry plays golf while troops are in harm’s way. So, if you play golf, you hate America??
How many of those Cali Maddoff victims would be volunteering to pay extra taxes if Maddoff’s investments really paid off big? Just asking…
Well, if it makes anyone feel better, at least one of the Andrews courses should be a Superfund site if the DoD would actually follow the rules applied to the rest of us.
Hopey hopey change change. Now, watch this swing!
Hey financial pundits! Where’s this talk about the light at the end of the tunnel? Is it because the light was actually a train called “Commercial Real Estate Collapse”? BTW, the 10:05 train is called “Credit Card Express.”
They used to say that Rush Limbaugh had Mad Cow Disease. What kind of jokes will they make about Swine Flu?
And why is teh president showing his legs?! That is worser than the first lady showing her arms!
Bruno: I rented one last year. As it was pointed out, Pontiac stands for “Poor Old Neophyte Thinks It’s A Cadillac.”
Can’t think of any other word for N that would make it work better, though, HMMM?
Mild Midwesterner: Clearly that one goes to Glenn Beck.
What the fuck is it with those presidents and their golf? Couldn’t just one of them buck the trend and take up bowling or something?
DangerousLiberal: Can haz bailout? Iz too big too fail.
NEXT WEEK: GM announces the end of the Chevy brand, as well as the GMC one.
The tragedy is that Larry Summer’s “nap” turned out to be his death from swine flu. Ironic?
DangerousLiberal: “How many of those Cali Maddoff victims would be volunteering to pay extra taxes if Maddoff’s investments really paid off big? Just asking…”
Or, extra taxes for regulation that actually works?
Next week Ford, GM & Chrysler will announce an historic labor agreement intended to preserve the good names of the Big Three automakers. The UAW workers will produce nothing in exchange for being paid nothing, while the union bosses & auto execs will take a small, voluntary pay cut, reducing their salaries to the low six figures.
Can I get back the taxes I paid on the imaginary value of my home?
It’s kind of amusing how the AP writer felt it necessary to comment on the Prez’s clothes and color choices. Did the NY Times style section just lay off some staff?
I’d say Chrysler is only a half-step closer to bankruptcy rather than a set-further from it.
Zadig: Time to start investing in classic GTO’s and bitchincamaros!!!!!
Is clearing some brush too good for Hopey?
Lazy Media: No no, you’re correct that the operation and staff of the three golf courses at Andrews AFB are sustained by operating revenue. But the courses were built with taxpayer money, and the third one uprooted wetlands and needed an environmental impact statement. All military installations have golf courses because….uh….Big sale on Truck Nutz!
Nice that our Homeland Security secretary can step in for the Health and Human Services secretary while the latter is still waiting a vote on appointment, having been delayed by pro-life teabaggers.
Not that a “during a pandemic” would be a good time to have an HHS secretary….
The Grand Prix wasn’t a bad car, until they ruined it up with the “street car” redesign a few years ago. Damn things drove like a go-cart and had enormous blind spots.
Texan Bulldoggette: If you play golf, you hate everything.
At least that’s the impression I get from the golfers I’ve met.
AllHat: Nixon was a bowler. ‘Nuff said.
