Fox News is a mentally retarded cable channel, you know that, but this weekend one of its anonymous blonde death monsters did a “story” about how after weeks of “doom and gloom,” the Obama administration “is now singing a slightly different tune” re: the economy. Then we view this a montage of “clips from this weekend” of administration officials being HYPOCRITES, including one where Joe Biden is shouting “THE FUNDAMENTALS OF THE ECONOMY ARE STRONG.” It was on Drudge this weekend, that wacky Joe Biden said that, and the administration is all a bunch of frauds etc. So, let’s discover how this was made up!

Here’s the 6-month-old clip from which the Biden line was taken:

Ladies and gentlemen, I believe that’s why John McCain could say with a straight face as recently as this morning and this is a quote, “the fundamentals of the economy are strong.” That’s what John said. He says that “We’ve made great progress economically in the Bush years.”

That about covers it.

Fox News Edits Clip To Suggest That Biden Recently Declared ‘Fundamentals Of The Economy Are Strong’ [Think Progress]

I’m shocked and outraged* that Faux has such low journalistic standards.

*not really

V572625694 March 16, 2009 at 3:49 pm

To think that Fox would use a clip from six months ago and represent it as something that just happened — shocking!

Was Biden speaking from a Teleprompter? Cuz that’s all that matters anyway.

Advocatus_Diaboli March 16, 2009 at 3:50 pm

I’ve got a solution to fix the economy: how about a tax on stupid.

4 minutes of faux news and 30 seconds of Flush would wipe out the deficit and put stimulus checks in everyone’s hands.

Woodwards Friend March 16, 2009 at 3:52 pm

I can’t form an opinion on this matter unless and until Joe the Plumber weighs in.

freakishlystrong March 16, 2009 at 3:56 pm

This is the latest wingnut meme, Blow Scarborough was all over it this am, yelling about how Obama said “we are focusing on the stronger fundamentals in this economy, of course, Blow heard; “the fundamentals of the economy are strong”. I heard; “HHHEEENNGGGHHHH”…

shortsshortsshorts March 16, 2009 at 3:58 pm

[re=266355]V572625694[/re]: TELEPROMPTER!!!!!11!!!!

And why does the administration LIE so much before it was an administration? It is as if Barack Obama and Joe Biden LIED all the time when they were in charge when Bush was president. I don’t understand it, WHICH IS WHY I WILL POUND MY FISTS AND SHAKE THEM IN THE AIR LIKE A GORILLA.

TELEPROMPTER!!!!!!!11!!11!11

Giant Robot March 16, 2009 at 4:02 pm

[re=266359]Advocatus_Diaboli[/re]: And a huge estate tax on inherited stupid, because it’s the worst kind.

Botswana Meat Commission FC March 16, 2009 at 4:04 pm

I really only depend on Fox News for one thing: Telling me the lastest news from inside the Octomom’s vagina.

joezoo March 16, 2009 at 4:04 pm

Oh man, that clip is going to come back and haunt him in the coming SarahPAC armageddon.

Gorillionaire March 16, 2009 at 4:06 pm

Fox should have just gone all out FTW and never even announced that Obama won the election. They could have just used the hundreds of hours of Bush footage they’ve got and re-edited it to create an infinite Bush administration for their audience.

BillyClubb March 16, 2009 at 4:06 pm

And who is running the teleprompter!? The Illuminati? The Masons? The “real” Catholic church? Wake up sheeple — our nation is being run by the people who control the teleprompter!!

problemwithcaring March 16, 2009 at 4:06 pm

…there’s better clip editing in the Obama Rickrolled video…

you cannot be serious March 16, 2009 at 4:06 pm

So, can Fox please use this time traveling magic machine to fix everything Michael Steele will ever say?

Cicada March 16, 2009 at 4:07 pm

Okay, so a couple weeks ago the right wing punditry was all pissed ‘cuz Barry was making sad noises about the economy, THUS DESTROYING THE ECONOMY 4EVAR. Now they’re annoyed ‘cuz the administrations is talking positively about the economy.

Got it.

Hooray For Anything March 16, 2009 at 4:11 pm

Fox News should just start off every new segment with the disclaimer “these stories are based on true events”

AnnieGetYourFun March 16, 2009 at 4:12 pm

I’ve made up a little placard that I can hold up whenever Fox News does pretty much anything: http://www.classicopostcards.co.uk/scans/postcard%20scans/246%20gif/246-205.jpg

Tommy Says Soooo, Jugdish! March 16, 2009 at 4:14 pm

I refuse to criticize any network that at least has the courage to put on Steve Doocey as its answer to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow and CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

Lionel Hutz Esq. March 16, 2009 at 4:17 pm

I can’t wait until O’Reilly spends half of his show debunking this sloppy journalism and and the bias that feeds it…., What? O’Reilly is having Dick Morris, Ann Coulter and Karl Rove on to discuss how Obama has failed? Well, I’m sure he will get to this before the end of the week.

lawrenceofthedesert March 16, 2009 at 4:18 pm

Out of context, out of mind.

skyinator March 16, 2009 at 4:18 pm

How dumb do they think we are? Oh, that dumb. My sister, who is a rabid flux news stoner, exclaimed after viewing your videos, “Is that legal? They can really do that and get away with it”?

Advocatus_Diaboli March 16, 2009 at 4:28 pm

[re=266417]Lionel Hutz Esq.[/re]: It’s that liberal bias in the media at it again. And Think Progress had the nerve to show the entire piece, in context; and then point out that Biden’s statement was not made last weekend. Leftist pantaloon moonbats.

Oh and [re=266404]Hooray For Anything[/re]: Win! Also.

Texan Bulldoggette March 16, 2009 at 4:29 pm

Meh…seems like I remember Fox using 2004 footage of Walnuts during the campaign last fall to make it seem like he wasn’t as old as the crypt keeper. So 6-month old footage is nothing.

Suds McKenzie March 16, 2009 at 4:33 pm

And when Pam looked in the shower and saw Bobbie Ewing standing there, she knew it had all been a dream.

Hooray For Anything March 16, 2009 at 4:33 pm

[re=266417]Lionel Hutz Esq.[/re]:I think O’Reilly will get to that around the same time that he tells his viewers that the Nancy Pelsoi/military plane story for which he spent about twenty minutes bashing Pelosi for was complete and total bullshit.

Udargo March 16, 2009 at 4:33 pm

Don’t you people get it?

It’s bait. It is so clearly bait laid out for Jon Stewart. Will Stewart take the bait? Probably, how could he not? And then they can do a whole segment on how Jon Stewart likes to take overly-optimistic quotes on the economy out of context to make people look bad, but when FOX does it he can’t wait to point out how wrong it is. It’s bait, I tell you.

Here, I’ll let my friend Admiral Akbar explain it…

OReillysVibrator March 16, 2009 at 4:35 pm

Don’t lie to me about Fox News, liberal traitors; this must be a clip of Joe Biden running for McCain’s Senate seat WHILE ALSO BEING VP! This is PRECISELY what happens in socialist states, with ACORN.

S.Luggo March 16, 2009 at 4:35 pm

Had Fox been able to hire that “news anchor, whose copy is crisp, delivery is sharp and FOX-like”, this mix-up would have been avoided. So no blamin’ Mr. Murdoch. Stuff, it just sometimes happens. (I believe that the Imperial Japanese Navy said the same thing after Pearl Harbor.)

JSDC007 March 16, 2009 at 4:50 pm

Tomorrow Fox News will photoshop socialist Obama and his marxist gal pal Michelle onto old footage of the Caecescus dancing on the graves of gypsies, Romanian gymnasts and the like.

The wingnuts will say “see, we told you he wasn’t really black.”

SemiCharmedQuark March 16, 2009 at 4:58 pm

[re=266390]Botswana Meat Commission FC[/re]: I disagree. They are also the go to channel for attractive young ladies who go missing.

SayItWithWookies March 16, 2009 at 5:05 pm

Now that the DOW has been up five days in a row, they can’t use the “Is Obama bringing the stock market down?” meme. But they’re setting up for the next downturn when they can use the headline “Did the Obama administration’s irrational exuberance overinflate the market?”

sati demise March 16, 2009 at 5:20 pm

Tomorrow Fox and Friends will have on the esteemed:

SJDoc

He will explain “Liberal angst”

krlars March 16, 2009 at 5:22 pm

SayItWithWookies…don’t you know they can’t us the “Is Obama bringing the stock market down?” meme, because Perino is using the “Bush deserves a little credit for the latest rally bullshit:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/03/15/perino-bush-deserves-cred_n_175062.html

hobospacejungle March 16, 2009 at 5:55 pm

[re=266502]krlars[/re]: Perino

I would totally hit that.

DP March 16, 2009 at 6:01 pm

Well it must be true that he said it…I just watched both clips and he said exactly the same thing BOTH times!!!Right? I mean, that proves it, Right??

Come on, somebody back me up…

SayItWithWookies March 16, 2009 at 6:04 pm

[re=266502]krlars[/re]: The Bush tax cuts will get us out of this Obama recession!

psilage March 16, 2009 at 6:48 pm

Soon it’ll all be like Daniel Schorr’s cameo in “The Game”. On FoxNews, Obama’s mouth will be seen to stretch out and say, with eyes rolling back in his head, “I for one, welcome our new socialist overlords.”

mush March 16, 2009 at 6:57 pm

I understand that FuxNews has just hired Bagdad Bob as their latest blond reporter/anchor/paperweight.

assistant/atlas March 16, 2009 at 8:31 pm

[re=266394]BillyClubb[/re]: LIBERAL MEDIA, ALSO!

assistant/atlas March 16, 2009 at 8:33 pm

[re=266404]Hooray For Anything[/re]: Hehehehe. While Fox is undoubtedly the worst, I think a lot of news programs could benefit from that disclaimer.

Palin Comparison March 16, 2009 at 10:32 pm

I love how the first Fox video edited out the bottom scroll from the original Fox video:

“Biden: McCain is profoundly out of touch”

Ouch.

davesnothere March 17, 2009 at 12:50 am

Jeebus, it really is more of a flagrant smoking gun than usual. Hasn’t the FCC recently been risen from the dead? Opinion is one thing, but surely there is a law against use of the public airwaves to just demonstrably lie your ass off about public policy issues…

missionmom March 23, 2009 at 3:54 pm

Enough with throwing around the mentally retarded diagnosis. No matter how you feel about something or someone, try calling them a name that doesn’t demean and hurt people with special needs. It’s not such a difficult request.
