Robert Gibbs To Ban Jake Tapper, From Life

by Jim Newell

Here’s America’s favorite traveling Bob Saget impersonator, ABC News’ Jake Tapper, sort of… yeah… destroying Robert Gibbs with relative ease. Gibbs ends Tapper’s time by ignoring his question, ha. Was “Gibbsy” really the best choice for this job, hmm? Guess we won’t be seeing these two together at the Hawk ‘n’ Dove anymore. [YouTube]

Jake might get his answers if he weren’t such a smug jerk.

The Unfairman February 5, 2009 at 4:35 pm

Ah, yes, the silent treatment. Is he going to start asking Jake why he keeps hitting himself next?

illnoise February 5, 2009 at 4:35 pm

more like Kevin Nealon impersonator.

Kwame' February 5, 2009 at 4:36 pm

David Gregory Wannabe. What a douche.

Hedley Lamar February 5, 2009 at 4:36 pm

Ok, name a white house correspondent who isn’t a smug jerk…. waiting, waiting…

ColHeightsChic February 5, 2009 at 4:36 pm

SMACK! Hey, give him time, it takes a few months to develop 47 tactful ways of ignoring a question.

groove February 5, 2009 at 4:37 pm

“So did your boss not tell you about all this stuff…or…what…cuz I’m pretty sure me and five hundred million other Americans are pretty crystal clear on the President’s opinions, you absolute moran.”

…is what Tapper should have said.

Rosalindavenue February 5, 2009 at 4:37 pm

I was listening to this on XM POTUS (I know, I know, sorry) and I wondered which Fox News jerk this was. He was giving a speech, not asking questions. Why not just send Hannity in?

Tra February 5, 2009 at 4:38 pm

I don’t like either of these people. I refuse to watch. When will Wonkette give us the cute puppy videos we so richly deserve! Or perhaps something with a snake attacking a badger.

Doglessliberal February 5, 2009 at 4:43 pm

And my other problem with Tapper is that every time I hear his name, I remember that he launched his career on a story he wrote about a date with Monica Lewinsky. Apparently dating Lewinsky= great resume.

Doglessliberal February 5, 2009 at 4:45 pm

[re=237203]Rosalindavenue[/re]: right, they use it as a platform to proselytize instead of doing actual journalism.

[re=237199]Hedley Lamar[/re]: Helen Thomas? She be jus cray-zee.

TGY February 5, 2009 at 4:51 pm

Wake me when we long for the return of Dana Perino.

V572625694 February 5, 2009 at 4:54 pm

[re=237225]TGY[/re]: She’s so pretty.

NoWireHangers February 5, 2009 at 4:58 pm

The best part is the look on Helen Thomas’ face. She looked like she was going to slap the shit out of Jake.

hockeymom February 5, 2009 at 4:58 pm

Tapper took a valid question and wrecked it by being a smug ass. The dripping sarcasm was not called for…you can make a point (or better yet, get an actual answer) without being a jerk.

Texan Bulldoggette February 5, 2009 at 5:06 pm

Ha! I love how he totally annoyed Jake-off. Go back to tapping fat, Jewish girls.

SayItWithWookies February 5, 2009 at 5:08 pm

Wait — I thought the press secretary was supposed to be this giant black hole where questions get sucked in and pulverized and no information ever comes out. No wonder Tapper is angry and nit-picky — he was hoping for a morning of vapid bemusement and if Gibbs delivers copies of the waivers he’ll actually have to read stuff. Dana Perino never made anyone do extra work.

HUN February 5, 2009 at 5:09 pm

Transparency Jake. I believe the forms in question were being flashed around on one of the networks and what was contained in them were reported. It’s also common knowledge that two appointee’s received exemptions regarding the no lobbying for 2 years requirement. You can argue that no exceptions should have been made, but since this was reported you can’t make an argument regarding transparency. In other words, the question has been asked and answered. As far as I’m concerned this is not even news anymore. Move on.

mylesfromnowhere February 5, 2009 at 5:10 pm

[re=237248]hockeymom[/re]: you can make a point (or better yet, get an actual answer) without being a jerk.
Tapper has proven he can’t.
When I hear his name, the image is Larry Craig.

Coffee Clutcher 187 February 5, 2009 at 5:12 pm

As much as I think Tapper would be the guy at the keg spouting off and, when his back was turned to ogle the blond freshman, several would jostle to hock a loogie into his cup, his question was totally fair and Gibsy looks like a bigger douche. Easy question, simple answer, wtf? The Obama team seems to have collective amnesia about basic communications strategy.

Send Hopey out into the field to talk to the folks directly. Distribute info packets to every paper/blog/etc. as to how much would be gained in each community through passage of the stimulus. Leave tomorrow. Use what you got, dumbasses.

Dreamer February 5, 2009 at 5:16 pm

Jake Tapper is an ass – Gibb should ignore him from now on..

dasNeonlicht February 5, 2009 at 5:19 pm

Ha ha, that was really smooth. Well done, Gibbs.

But seriously, that reporter really needs to get over himself.

DemmeFatale February 5, 2009 at 5:22 pm

He should just stick with calling Jeff Krasinski “Big Tuna.”

Pelagius February 5, 2009 at 5:37 pm

Are you sure that isn’t a viral marketing ad for the next “Leprechaun” movie? Otherwise, what’s that sitting next to the Tapmeister?

AngryBlakGuy February 5, 2009 at 5:40 pm

…my biggest issue with the “Press Corp”, is the fact that they never felt the need to do their job over the last 8 years until now. I have no problem with them being ASSES and asking questions in a crude way, but where the FUKK was Jake Tapper during the “W” years?!?!?!

picadillythirds February 5, 2009 at 5:41 pm

If I had known that the press conferences were going to be battles between two smug ass hats, I would watch more often.

CuntryFirst February 5, 2009 at 6:03 pm

[re=237275]Coffee Clutcher 187[/re]: As Hope-filled as I am, you’re right about Gibbs being the bigger douche. That is quite a feat considering that Tapper is the king of douchebaggery.

C’mon, O man, tell us Gibbs had a tax problem and dump his inept ass.

KittyLitter February 5, 2009 at 6:04 pm

Damn, I wasted all morning tearing the house apart looking for my douchebag, when it was right in the White House press room all along…

Purple Tide February 5, 2009 at 6:12 pm

They need to just let Biden be Veep AND press sec’y:

Well, Tapper, that’s a damn good question. You’re an eloquent young man, with a shrewd and judicious mind. Have you considered a career change, Chief Justice perhaps? Because the clown we got now can’t even recite a paragraph without sputtering like a brokedown AMTRAK Delaware Express. Nahh, not really, you’re a twat. Next!

Internally valid February 5, 2009 at 6:20 pm

[re=237275]Coffee Clutcher 187[/re]: Agreed on both accounts, also.

And too, even if he didn’t/couldn’t answer the question, Gibbs could have moved past the question with his first non-answer, but he then tried to challenge Tapper for no reason whatsoever. Nobody cares about Tapper or his question, so either just answer it or say “I’ll look into it” and wait for him to forget.

hobospacejungle February 5, 2009 at 6:28 pm

[re= 237197]Kwame’[/re]: David Gregory Wannabe. What a douche.

The right questions were asked. I think there’s a lot of critics — and I guess we can count Scott McClellan as one — who thinks that if we did not debate the president, debate the policy in our role as journalists, if we did not stand up and say, “This is bogus,” and “You’re a liar,” and “Why are you doing this?” that we didn’t do our job. And I respectfully disagree. It’s not our role.

The role of the White House press corps under W: stenographers

The role of the White House press corps under Obama: challenge every little nitpicking thing, demand an explanation for everything, write “news” stories about how Obama’s administration is singularly disastrous after three weeks, meet at bar and talk about what tough journalists they are.

Mr Blifil February 5, 2009 at 8:43 pm

[re=237397]hobospacejungle[/re]: Well, sadly it would be “pertinent” if Robert Gibbs were to point that out every once in a while. I was under the impression Obama’s people like to do their homework. The honeymoon’s not over yet, but the after party has been for a while. Crack the books, poindexter, or step aside.

NoNewKidontheBlock February 5, 2009 at 9:22 pm

I can’t stand this “NERD”…. he thinks is kool to make an ASS of him self in front of the cameras. “WE WON… WE WON… WE WON and my shi#$% don’t stink”… that’s all they can say. They just need to keep in mind that if they keep saying the same shi@#$%^ one day the house is going to stink. !!!

Tony AZ82 February 5, 2009 at 10:35 pm

Just give Gibbs time, he will eventually ease out of campaign mode, and stop being so dismissive.

With practice he will get better at speaking polite political-bullshit. Just like any other second-language fluency will come with time.

InKnockYouUs February 5, 2009 at 11:18 pm

Robert Gibbs thought balloon: “Will you just shut UP you sanctimonious little cocksucker.”

gurukalehuru February 6, 2009 at 7:53 am

[re=237620]NoNewKidontheBlock[/re]: Your shit stinks.

sanantonerose February 6, 2009 at 8:57 am

Gibbs needs to roll tape on Ari Fleischer. Now that was one bad ass mofo taking questions from the press. MAKE THEM AFRAID, GIBBS.

sanantonerose February 6, 2009 at 9:07 am

Gibbs needs to talk faster, also.

neocon May 2, 2009 at 7:59 pm

I thought that this new administration was supposed to be articulate. Gibbs is the poster boy for the Obama White house. What does that say about Obama? I say keep it up Gibbs, keep it up Joe.
