Jesus Christ, Caroline Kennedy: next time you think about running for any office (/harassing blind people for Senate jobs), just ignore it and throw a fundraiser for poor illiterate kids or whatever instead? Her surprise dropout yesterday, once she realized that she was out of her element and/or NOT THE PICK, has taken yet another hilarious and tragic twist that probably could have been avoided: Ted Kennedy is mad at some of her people for blaming her exit on Ted’s “declining health,” as in, Caroline had no idea just how bad her uncle’s RAREST AND MOST DEADLIEST POSSIBLE FORM OF BRAIN CANCER was until he started floppin’ around at that luncheon Tuesday. Ted and his people obviously want to be kept out of this terrible failure’s failure, and also don’t want her screwing up his work in the Senate, which he attends once every six months for a “victory lap.”
Since Caroline and Ted Kennedy are, along with Arnold Schwarzenegger, the only living Kennedys, it is tragic that they have to fight and ruin each other’s career:
Of all the many ways in which Caroline Kennedy’s brief and unofficial candidacy for Senate was mishandled, one final ungraceful note is striking particularly close to home. Sources close to Senator Edward M. Kennedy tell TIME that his circle — including his immediate family — is furious that his brain cancer is being cited by some in her camp as the reason for her decision to withdraw her name from consideration for the Senate seat being vacated by Hillary Clinton.
“It looks horrible,” says one former aide to Ted Kennedy. “It makes him look like he is at death’s door.” In fact, those close to Kennedy, 76, say that while the Senator is suffering occasional seizures, such as the one that sent him to the hospital on Tuesday during the celebratory Capitol lunch for the newly inaugurated President, he is generally doing well. And they add that Kennedy is fully engaged in the effort to pass universal health care legislation — a cause for which he has fought for decades, and one in which he will play a crucial role as chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
“It makes him look like he is at death’s door.”
Well, when will he be, then? Is he actually capable of REVAMPING AMERICAN HEALTH CARE ENTIRELY when he can’t even show up for a lunch without being hospitalized? Do any of these Kennedys understand that they raise many more questions than they answer?
Ted Kennedy’s Circle Upset By Caroline’s Awkward Exit [Time]

Um’s the word.
Caroline Kennedy appears to be a basically good person.
Which is why it is so puzzling that she’s a bigger FAIL than Blagovich and Palin.
Whatever happened to Pat Kennedy, you know, the one who got all ripped on Robitussin and Oxycontins and ran over a dead hooker or something in DC? Is he still kicking? Let’s give the Senatorship to THAT d00d, he sounds like a real party animal. Oh, and someone take poor Ted out “to the farm” or something….
I don’t know much about NY politics, but I’m guessing they’re all glad Illinois is absorbing much of the stupid right now. Meanwhile, California’s gone bust and nobody cares. Jim “the LuvGuv” Gibbons has started an a civil war with the Nevada GOP and nobody cares.
Thank you, Blago, for being an enabler.

Jim, you are so crool. Don’t you remember what Elvis Presley said about croolty? Besides, who would be a better advocate for universal health care than a rich guy with brain cancer? The end.
I take it that “Sweet Caroline” won’t be played in the, uh, er, Quimby, uh, er, Kennedy Compound.

…he sounds like a real party animal!
Seconded. Without Coleman, the Senate’s gonna need someone who can do competent keg stands.
“Is he actually capable of REVAMPING AMERICAN HEALTH CARE ENTIRELY when he can’t even show up for a lunch without being hospitalized?”
Yes. End of story. His staff is the best and he is brilliant. This is just uninformed blather.
“I can handle things, I’m smart, not like everybody says. Not dumb, I’m smart, and I want respect!”
Further proof that Dead Kennedy’s haven’t been pushed into obscurity.
[re=225856]Merry Christen[/re]: Patrick Kennedy is an idiot and an incorrigible pill-popper, and is therefore an excellent representative for Rhode Island. The ginge factor, though, is a whole nother issue and is probably what’s holding him back from a Senate seat.
It’s NOT a tooomar!
Buried at the end of the earlier posting on Caroline is my question: Where’s Ed Schlossberg in all of this? Is his the name that must never be mentioned? Or is he one of the reasons she’s now back to Junior League and not Junior Senatrix?
It’s both sad and kind of hilarious that Caroline Kennedy says Ted Kennedy’s brain tumor is keeping her out of the Senate, when it hasn’t kept Ted Kennedy out of the Senate.
[re=225863]Packherd[/re]: Aw, fail.
[re=225876]Josh Fruhlinger[/re]: Nice.
[re=225865]eudaimon[/re]: Actually, I think it is informed blather.
BLAME SARAH JESSICA PARKER
Maybe if she started calling herself Caroline Schlossberg it would make a difference.
Is that picture of Ted from Tuesday’s luncheon?
Too soon?
This Caroline story has been Epic Stoopid from start to finish.
So Maria Shriver is basically running on Botox?
But I wanted a pony!
[re=225876]Josh Fruhlinger[/re]: Hah!
[re=225855]hockeymom[/re]: If you talk to people in NY, like, say, me, you’ll find the sentiment is less about her inexperience and more about her sense of entitlement.
Personally, I thought she’d make a fine Senator. She would be my third choice, with Cuomo (or “CUM-o” as we call him here, referring to his genetic lottery win) lagging behind Eliot Spitzer for fory millionth in a state of ten million.
So we can suspend the search for live virgins to bury with him?
“Where did your long hair goooooo?
Where is that girl I use to knowwww?”
Okay. Now I have to say something. Caroline. I am not impressed with your antics. First, you say, “Oh gee, it might be fun to be a senator, but I don’t want to have to campaign and all. Oh look! This is just rich! I’ll ask for Hillary’s seat, and then I won’t have to go through that whole tacky campaign thing.” And then, a few months later, you say, “Fudge! I’m not even campaigning, and people are criticizing me. Plus I might not even get appointed. This is so not fun. I’ll just drop out and blame Uncle Ted, so people won’t think badly of me.”
[re=225871]Bronkers[/re]: yeah, and she used to be Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg. That last name quietly disappeared recently.
[re=225897]chascates[/re]: She stopped calling herself that!
[re=225897]chascates[/re]: Maybe if she were just schlossed it would make a difference.
Ungraceful?? WTF? Does Time even employ editors to check for reporters’ unsmartness?
Graceless uneducated shitheads…
