America Has Looted Beneath Its Couch Cushions And There Is No More Spare Change

  • Consumer spending, which tends not to flag even when every other area of the American economy suffers, has suddenly dropped. [New York Times]
  • Henry Paulson will be giving an update today on what effect, if any, the financial bailout has had. (This means you should get drunk before you turn on your TV this morning.) [AP]
  • A U.S. diplomat and his Pakistani driver were killed in an ambush in northwest Pakistan. [AFP]
  • Connecticut residents greet the legalization of gay marriage in their state with a collective Yankee “whatever, it’s not my business anyway.” [Hartford Courant]
  • The World Bank expects to triple the amount it lends to poor nations this year. [Washington Post]
  • Barack Obama acted all hopey and changey to get elected but now he is staffing up with a bunch of old Clintonites, as if he wants to run the government with people who actually know what they’re doing. That is pragmatic, not hopeful! Ten demerits. [Los Angeles Times]

Poor Connecticut. I Predict that by this time next year, there won’t be a straight married couple to be found in the whole state what with the way gay marriage threatens traditional marriage and all.

The way the economy is going for us regular little folks are going and from what I read about the economic hit Kaliphonia is taking because they stopped gay marriage that next year, many state govs will allow gay marriage as part of an economic stimulus package.

  4. EMERGENCY FUCK-WITH-REPUBLICANS ANNOUNCEMENT: I just surfed over to that rebuild the party nonsense, and it seems some nefarious actors have deleted Wonkette’s brilliant TruckNutz suggestion! The Paultards’ lunacy persists on the page. This injustice must be cured: a patriot has posted another TruckNutz suggestion, but it’s currently languishing with less than 300 votes: http://ideas.rebuildtheparty.com/pages/general/suggestions/68610

Act now before the chance for a socialist, TruckNutz redistributing utopia is lost forever!

Ohohoh, is he gonna tell us about how they also stole about $170B without asking and gave it to banks while we were too busy arguing about the bailout? PRETTY PLZE?

Yah, yah, yah. The real story is Ana Marie Cox on Maddow show. Nice new lesbian haircut there, Ms Time Magazine.

Sparks flew. Pretty soon we will be hearing about the casting couch at MSNBC, and I ain’t talking about David Gregory and Kathryn Lopez.

    Trollop:

You can still see the old thread HERE. Looks like it was pulled with 4424 votes, which is about 1 1/2 times as much as the closes Paultard competitor thread.

    We do so fucking rule!

Tommy Says Soooo: PICS OR DIDN’T HAPPEN

  9. What, you mean the folks in Connecticut spend time doing something other that fixating on other people’s sex lives? That’s un-American.

  10. Surely Obama should aim to become a heroic failure, constantly stumbling as he tries and fails to effect Change, so that he becomes a martyr of the reform movement for all time? That’s real progress.

He shouldn’t try to succeed. To this sentimental liberal, success is the worst kind of failure.

    Terry:

If you don’t have at least one gay pron mag hidden away in the attic somewhere that you review from time to time when your wife’s not home to remind yourself of all the awful things that those horrible gays do to each other, you’re probably not a true Christian.

  12. Serolf Divad: Sigh… the glorious Wonkette revolution is over…

A Russian friend of mine was right–Obama is America’s Gorbachev. Noble ambitions to make the country live up to its ideals, but it’s much too late, and those with ideas that might actually help are hopelessly marginalized. So… expect epic failure within three years or so.

Warren Christopher? Isn’t he the fossil that Jim Baker wiped his ass with in the Florida recount in ‘00? Jeebus.

My consumer spending haz a sad. I blew through my last economic stimulus by stocking up on bullets, beer, and BBQ nachos. Lots of BBQ nachos.

  16. Serolf Divad:

REAL Christians take meth and pick up gay hookers, from what Pastor Ted says.

  17. If I could still afford booze, I’d still get drunk before going online in the morning. Wonkette was a lot funnier back then, by the way.

Wait, I thought Hopey was going to staff his White House with unicorns, elves, leprechauns, and Hogwarts graduates. That’s not change, that’s more of the same.

  21. StephanieInCA says at 11:58 am, November 12th, 2008

Good god, consumer spending is down 2.9 percent? That means that if last year we would have spent $15,000 on shit we don’t need, this year we will only be spending $14,565. What are we going to do?!!!??1!1!!

  22. flyingspaghettimonster says at 2:33 pm, November 12th, 2008

Wolfgang compared the plight of groups such as the Family Institute… to the anti-abortion movement after Roe v. Wade. “We will work for the day when marriage as between a man and a woman will be protected and restored in Connecticut,” he said.

Restored? So they made it illegal for str8’s to marry?
