Allow me to make sweeping generalizations that I nonetheless stand behind.
A fair percentage of white women of, especially those of, ahem, a certain age, are fearful and resentful of black men. They were raised in white ‘burbs by white parents during a time when distrusting, disliking and discriminating against blacks was an overt fact of life in many communities. They may be a small minority but they vote in droves, and there are plenty of Dems in that mix. This anything-but-silent minority nearly made the difference in Hillary’s quest for the nomination and you can be sure that a lot of them appreciate how Sarah Palin, by dint of being a woman, gives them a rationalization to get firmly behind a McCain candidacy without having to admit to themselves that they are essentially racists, what with all that pesky cognitive dissonance to resolve.

My landladies, a nice lesbian couple, are both in their late 60s and will vote Obama (even though one was a fervent HRC supporter).

First let me blow the bullshit argument about black people voting for Barack Obama because he’s black out of the window. If this race were say between John Edward (D) and Clarence Thomas (R) I will fucking put my head on the chopping block that blacks would vote for John Edwards. So again, to say that most blacks are voting for Barack Obama “just because he’s black” is fucking bullshit. As a woman of the white persuasion, I have spent the last 18 thousand months being told that I luuuuurrrve Hillary Clinton more than my first best girlfriend who taught me how to paint my toenails but now absent her I luuuuuuurrrrrrve Sarah Palin more than even my second best girlfriend who taught me how to smoke cigarettes behind the mall.
Funny thing is, no one has ever actually ASKED me if I lurve either of them, except that one time in the voting booth when, in a fascinating turn of events, I did not check the box next to “My Bestest Gal Pal who is not the Black Dude”.
If there’s one thing this white woman loves more than nail polish and cigarettes, it’s being told incessantly by the media what she thinks about things! It’s so empowering!
Yay, McCain-Palin! Because you know, after I’m raped (and after I’m done sighing about how great it was) I want to fork over $1,600 for my own rape kit. Less money for the rape-child I won’t have any chance of aborting, whether I’m 40 or 14! I just hope the rapist doesn’t come back and try to beat me and my rape-child, cause I know I won’t get any help then since domestic violence isn’t important enough to do anything about. But that’s okay, cause women enjoy it anyway, right?

Why doesn’t anyone talk about the reverse-Bradley effect? You know, the one where white women vote for the black man, just to spite their parents?
I don’t know how you folks can seriously discuss Obama. Myself a Jew, a find him a familiar type of self-hating Muslim (more here http://samsonblinded.org/blog/obama-against-jewishness.htm ). He abandoned his roots, betrayed his religion, sides frantically with anyone from radical Christians to liberal Jews. From a nation of 300 million, cannot you find a president?

White women flock to Palin, African Americans flock to Obama, but no one calls it out (at least no politician). This is a perfect example of how the explicit discrimination of early 1900′s and years before has changed to more implicit in recent years.
In my current political science class we have recently learned about how racism towards blacks in particular has changed of the past century. The norm of the 1920′s and 30′s was blatant racism and discrimination. Politicians went out of their way to appear racist so they could appease the masses. Now the opposite is true. If a politician made a blatant discriminatory remark about someone it would be political suicide. So instead of blatantly using race some now turn to more implicit methods of bringing forth racial feelings to voters. With African-Americans in particular this often includes pictures of blacks when talking about crime or poverty. Viewers or listeners often will feel negatively towards in this case, African-Americans. If another politician calls them out on it however, people will usually reverse the effects because they do not want to feel racist. When I was helping to control the crowd when my local Obama HQ was passing out tickets for an event a white man came up to me and starting complaining about the line. The line was huge, as expected, and filled with mostly African-Americans, also to be expected in my area. The man made several racist comments using “them” and other racially charged remarks towards the crowd. Chances are, if I pointed out the possibility that I thought his remarks were racist out loud he would deny it and ramble off some excuses of what he meant. I doubt he wanted to be labeled a racist although the image of the long line of poorer African-Americans made him feel that way. While most debate on this issue surrounds racism towards African-Americans, it probably extends beyond that.
As women flock to McCain-Palin many wonder what is really pushing them in that direction. Many come up with excuses such as in original blog, that they are more approachable and easier to relate to. This is ironic as both Obama’s came from very poor backgrounds, with Barack being raised by his single mother or his Grandmother. McCain and Palin on the other hand come from more well off families, especially with McCain who was from a family with a tradition as high Navy officers. Even with this white woman seem to be persuaded by the fact that Palin is another white woman. This favoritism towards Palin is helped along by the fact that she is a white woman, although many will not admit it. White women are not “all awful and should be thrown in Gitmo…: but they are like the rest of us, persuaded unknowingly by less than blatant uses of discrimination.
