Joe Biden Reacts To Palin’s ‘Amazing’ Speech

by Sara K. Smith  9:30 am September 4, 2008

The Democratic vice presidential candidate has nothing but wonderful praise for Sarah Palin and how fantastic her speech was last night. He doesn’t know how he could possibly win a debate with her, because she will be such a master debater! And John Roberts is all, “You’re raising expectations!!” because duh. [CNN]

Ah Biden, you glorious passive aggressive motherfucker. Gently sink your teeth in and do not ever let go until the Republican party is a lifeless ragdoll. And then politely thank them for playing.

Serolf Divad September 4, 2008 at 9:45 am

Prediction: Palin brings “Trig” to the VP debate and every time she gets a tough question she’ll pull him out and start to breast feed him. Then she’ll put him away and accuse Biden of hating Baby Jesus and wanting to force his Northeastern, Liberal San Francisco homosexual agenda on (a geographically challenged) middle-America.

apocalypsethen September 4, 2008 at 9:48 am

snarkiness aside–that was nicely done. and I think that’s the way he has to play it: polite admiration that doesn’t quite dip into patronization.

and also he should rip everyone’s throat out.

Borat September 4, 2008 at 9:51 am

But does the VP-ILF have testicular fortitude? I’m not sure she’s been in a position to prove this to America yet.

[re=83864]Serolf Divad[/re]: He’d probably respond with something along the lines of “Yes, I’m sure that Putin and Ahmadinejad will be moved by your devotion to your children.”

Have any dates been set for the debates yet? I’ll need the next day off to recover from alcohol poisoning and laughter.

Biden should show up with a fat suit and a glass of water, then pour the water on the floor and say “ohh no my water broke… I think I’ll finish the debate then fly around the country for a while.”

I was worried about this crazybatshit woman (and being a woman/mom/voting american I use the term woman lightly) would get folks fired up. Glad to see that the Princeton Electoral Consortium does not bear that out: according to them, Obama is up another electoral vote this morning; 305-233. I don’t think I can make it to November.

Yeah, saw this on the Today Show this morning. It aired right after Meredith Viera announced she wanted to have sex with Palin.

The 3-Legged Man September 4, 2008 at 10:16 am

Gee, Joe, I hope you’ll mention that Palin accepted campaign money from Veco, the same people who bribed all the convicted, indicted, and investigated Alaska pols. Stevens: headed for Graybar Hotel after 9/24. Young: about to be indicted. Palin: lawyered up and avoiding investigation she “welcomed” a month ago.

Look, you can put up anyone to read one-liners at a convention speech. Palin was a warmup act. Most of the stomach acid should be saved for McCain tonight. She’s just a circle fly.

Serolf Divad September 4, 2008 at 10:31 am

Here’s the problem with Democrats trying to “lower expectations.” The Democratic candidates are, by and large, clearly intelligent, well spoken, well educated and attuned to the issues. So it’s kinda hard to buy it when they come on with this “golly gee willikers, Wolf, I hope I can at least stand my ground against Mrs. Palin. She’s one tough lady!” Meanwhile, the Republicans deliberately choose backwoods dipshits for their candidates, and the real brains operate behind the scenes, feeding them soundbites and talking points. So when they open their mouths and start going off with “You know, I’m just a backwoods redneck who was bottom of my class at Wogbury junior college. I hope I can use a little horse sense to get me through this debate without coming off too much like the simple farmer I am!” it’s difficult not to swallow that line. The during the debate they’re all: “I love baby Jesus and my opponent hates America… so you’ve got a choice in November. I hope y’all will find it in your kindness to pull the lever fer the one of us you most identify wiht. That’s all, Thank ya!”

apocalypsethen September 4, 2008 at 10:34 am

I said this earlier, but I hope it causes the smart, rich, country club republicans to stay home because they don’t want this bumkin anywhere near their trust funds. I think it’s too much to expect them to vote for Obama, though.

timeoutofmind September 4, 2008 at 10:46 am

Joe skewered her nicely; he was also lacerating media coverage, which JR was too thick to absorb.

With a few exceptions, the media couldn’t trip over themselves fast enough to sing her praises, except for the PBS guy Mark Shields — pointing out that she still has to (presumably) SPEAK to the media sometime, and defend her record and her ideas.

Too bad the rest of the idiot media can’t separate what they hear from the room they hear it in; you normally learn that in first year J-school.

She proved her willingness and ability to spew lies and distortions like the rest of the extreme right —- even blindly reading a line about the stinking washington establishment despite the fact the her running mate and half the room consists of same.

if they ever let her out of the bubble to answer any questions, she’ll be carved up.

DoctorCulturae September 4, 2008 at 10:49 am

[re=83918]Serolf Divad[/re]: The American social contract is about being “nice, being a good egg.” So if we can “have a beer with them” I can trust they won’t try to stab me in the back. Thus we share “values.” For decades now the Demrats have tried to persuade with ‘reason” which is looked on with suspicion because it’s seen as cold, calculating, not about commitment to belief. The emotion of “values” regularly trumps “reason” in America. Over and over the Demrats keep saying, “Yeah, but the facts, the facts!” Eventually they are going to have to run AGAINST these guys by proving they have the stronger backbones. They have to do that, and show that in the campaign because they are going to need that quality not just to win the election, but to govern. Too much coolness exacerbates the charge/appearance “weak elitist.” Time to double up on my meds.

I wish to God we had a media half as liberal as conservatives like to think it is, maybe they’d get off their asses and do a little footwork for us.

Snark aside, I loved Joe’s response! He couldn’t have played it better, taking the high road today. It would have been a major mistake to come out swinging. Complimenting her on her delivery but pointing out her failure to mention key issues is a great morning after commentary. I believe he’ll politely wipe the floor with her in the debate, but great judgment was shown in not being reactionary. Cool confidence will prevail right up until the coup de grace. Okay, it’s come to this. I hate viral emails (or whatever they’re called), especially when they’re right-wing hatemail effluvia about how Obama is a white-woman rapin’, crack smokin’, Muslim-luvin’, taxin’ n’ spendin’ … blah blah blah. Here’s a simple “fact check” on last nights speech: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080904/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_fact_check. From Yahoo!, of all things. Palin is a shill, pure and simple. Tell your friends and neighbors, and theirs, and theirs, and theirs, etc.

Yes, Palin is a re-affirmation of the “way things should be.” It doesn’t matter that she’s in a position of power. What matters is that she’ll be secondary in the White House. A true national “wife.”

Biden asks why they made no mention of how parents will be able to afford college for their kids. He forgets that all the teen gals will be KNOCKED UP in High School due to no sex education, forcing them to drop out and the teenaged dads can forget college cuz they’ll have to get a job and support their illegitimate brats.

the word “bitch” is so…. I dunno… reflexive, unoriginal, pedestrian. I like harpy, shrew… still feminine just a little more exotic. But I’ve been called “(fill in the adjective) bitch” so many times maybe I’m just sensitive

First of all, I want to thank all of you for making this election somewhat easier to swallow. I just found the site last week, and I can’t get enough. Well done.

Secondly, I wanted to say that while I had originally planned to sit and watch Palin’s speech last night, I decided not to. Instead, I called up my local Obama HQ and asked them what I could do to help.

Last night, from 5:30 to 8:30, I went door to door here in Colorado, talking to unaffiliated voters. The good news? All but one of them was heavily leaning Obama. All but one!

Snarky comments are awesome. (They bring much needed levity to something that would otherwise have us pulling out our hair.) But at the end of the day, the most valuable contribution anyone can make is their time. Please consider becoming active in some way.

Now, all of that said “Barack needs to give her a hysterectomy while he’s busy aborting her children’s children and drinking their cord-blood.” is one of the most deliciously fucked up comments I have ever seen. Keep up the good work.

javascript:reply(’83944′, ‘Botswana Meat Commission FC’); Yes to this. I tend to use my mother as a bellwether, as she’s a moderate who can be tricked into voting for far-right Repubs (as in 2004, which I still give her no end of crap about), and she’s horrified by Palin for a lot of reasons. Most of all for the condescension it shows on the part of McCain, that he and his people think they can plop just *any* woman in there and win them all over. This pick helps him with the base and with some of the dumber men who like her just because she’s hot.

What has struck me about the RNC convention is the unwillingness to discuss the Bush/Cheney legacy.
Bush appeared briefly via video, but he talked about McCain and nothing he accomplished.
No one has told us how we are better off now than we were under a Democratic president.

The only economic program the Republicans discuss is maintaining tax cuts for the wealthy.
Tax cuts for the wealthy have resulted in an obscene debt that our great, great, great grandchildren will be paying.

Obama and Biden need to remind the voters the Republicans legacy is 8 years of the most embarrasing, useless and dishonest presidency in US history.
