Fail-o-Meter Day Two!
Why did mean old John McCain ruin our favorite Klondike Snow Bunny’s happy life? It’s another day, which means it’s another day of embarrassing revelations about Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin — last week she was America’s Hottest Governor, and this week she’s a disaster!

  • Bum husband Todd Palin was arrested for drunken driving in 1986.
  • Sarah Palin has hired a lawyer because this “Troopergate” thing is getting serious.
  • McCain’s people didn’t ask anybody in Alaska about the Palins.
  • The FBI says no background check was done on Sarah Palin.
  • Through her friends Ted Stevens and Don Young, Palin got $27 million in federal earmarks for her tiny suburb of 6,700 people. McCain, of course, is 100% against federal earmarks.
  • Everybody back in Palin’s hometown knew her teen-aged daughter was knocked up, and knew the Baby Daddy was 18-year-old self-described “fuckin’ redneck” Levi Johnston.

Disclosures on Palin Raise Questions on Vetting Process [New York Times]

You know, most politicians and political parties would get her out of there… this one won’t. The fundies are 100% behind her and would rip Walnuts from limb to limb if she were pushed off the boat.

Oh and congrats on the ad– glad to see you doing business.

Oh-ho-ho, I get it, premature withdrawal because if her husband had withdrawn prematurely earlier in her life, she would today be scandal-free and would already be President.

  • AngryBlakGuy

…well Joe Scarborough is saying the MSM and blogosphere are being mean to Sara Palin and her daughter.

Awwwwww, well I apologize that her parenting philosophy blew up in her face. She has been beating the abstinence only drum for her entire(albeit short) political career and now she personally knows how affective the policy is. Sara Palin needs to get her own house in order before she tries and tells America how to run theirs, and until then put your big girl panties on and stop whining!

  • Michael Bauser

There’s just no end to her family’s screw-ups, is there? By Friday, I expect a press release announcing “Senator McCain knew the Palins are cannibals, but believes it is a private matter.”

  • Serolf Divad

What’s most disturbing about this (though, sadly unsurprising given our electorate) is that what most seems to attract her supporters is the fact that Palin’s thin qualifications and dysfunctional family life seem to remind them of their own. I mean fuck’s sakes, people, we’ve bankrupted the country and lost all pretense to global moral authority by electing the guy we’d most like to have a beer with, and now we’re getting ready to repeat the same mistake by going for the shallow beauty queen whose tragic life story most reminds us of our own. And yeah, I realize that we’re electing the 72 year old geezer, and not Mrs. Palin… but let’s face it… Palin’s the only thing about that ticket that seems to have energized the GOP base.

  • Nigerian Business Executive

You missed the most telling sentence in the piece describing how the process really works: “This was really kind of rushed at the end, because John didn’t get what he wanted. He wanted to do Joe or Ridge.”

You get that? McCain wanted to do Lieberman or Ridge, that dirty old man/typical Republican.

And what the fuck is wrong with Wonkette? Did a carebear eat too much cotton candy and spew all over the site? Yeesh!

  • Makeithurt

Anybody watching Scarborough this morning? YIKES!
So apparently DAILY KOS got Bristol pregnant.
Poor old Joe. He’s really completely losing it.

  • Skip2theEnd

I personally loved Cindy McCain’s argument that Palin’s proximity to Russia gave her oodles of relevant international experience. Because Bush’s proximity to Mexico sure did wonders for his government!

  • Terry

Oh, you KNOW there’s going to be more coming out.

Time to start popping the popcorn, this is going to be entertaining.

  • hatlesshead

Guess the Repug vetting team have gone to expunge any trace of gawd knows what else in Caribou Barbie’s past. Why don’t MSM like Morning Joe get off the mistreatment of poor ol’ Bristol and talk about the rest of it. There’s plenty to be had.

Background ad sucks a big one by the way.

  • RIred

My favorite quote from the NY Times this morning was from one of the Palin-related articles where one of Mr. Palin’s friends explained that “…They’re not trashy people.” It has been a while since we needed to be reminded about the trashiness of GOP candidates. Hypocrisy, morality, sincerity, yes, trashiness has been notably absent from the discussion of late.

  • DoctorCulturae

Whoa. Nice to see the ad revenue coming in… Thought I was at Jezebel for a second, I felt myself getting all bitter and everything till I remembered I’m me…

I tell you the MSM is being pwned on Palin and Babygate et al. McPain is going to run “against” the media and suck anything and anybody into his righteous rage since he can’t run against Hopesman. This way he gets to play “Maverick” again and with a lot of pretend indignation (Hopey called it “bluster”) get the wingnuts all sexed up.

Somebody somewhere is going to have to call bs. He and Rove are betting no one will.

  • Godless Liberal *

I think the background is the result of our esteemed editors leaving the site for two weeks in the hands of Intern Juli, who took the opportunity to make Wonkette as pretty as her dorm room.

In all seriousness, while I can appreciate that you need to get paid and ads bring in the cash, is it really necessary to have Wonkette look like the aftermath of a Juicy Couture store explosion?

  • the cold war makes me hot

I think McCain knew about this when he picked Palin, with the intention of getting her through this week and the nomination process. Once this week is over, she’ll bow out, and he can pick Ridge or Lieberman and not risk the floor fight.

  • Voted for Mondale

The smart move would be to cut her loose today. She hasn’t been officially nominated yet, she can say it’s because of “family” and blame it on mean old Daily Kos and come off a little sympathetic. If they wait and throw her under the bus after all the other stuff bubbles around for a while, it will look a lot worse – so that’s obvioulsy what McCain will do…

No wonder Joel Fleischman had trouble up there.

With this latest VP/pregnancy plot twist, Weeds has officially jumped the shark.

Huff Post is reporting that the town of Wasilla tried to recall her when she was mayor because she fired to town employees for not supporting her in the election.

Good thing she’s nice looking, huh?

[re=79012]trophy(forparticipation)wife[/re]: That is Levi Johnston’s sister Sadie in those pictures. I got some screencaps of her MySpace too (like everyone else) before she made it private.

I scoured a number of the kids’ profiles in that community and they are as universally as hilarious and terrifyingly lovesable as all American kids, to be honest.

Sadie (“Mercede”) however seems the most decent one of the lot. She likes getting wasted, cursing, listening to Lil Wayne and wants to marry Allen Iverson (according to her blog). Which means she is 1,000 times more worldly than Sarah Palin. And I bet she’s no secessionist traitor, either.

I say she gets the replacement nod!

Has anything more come out about the political consulting business SP ran in between her mayoral gig and the governor campaign? I believe it had a funny name like “cou rouge”.

ReverendGreen: No currently there is no abstinence only teaching, but she was a big supporter of it when she was running for Gov.

I wish I could see that ad for “Cho” cuz Margaret Cho used
to be pretty funny. But I guess you have to set your screen
    resolution to 2560×1920.

[re=79158]Terry[/re]: Didn’t know that part. She’s becoming shadier by the minute. I think folks up here have let a lot of this crap slide because she isn’t Murkowski and she promised us an additional $1200. They just interviewed someone who ran against her in 1996 for the Mayor of Wasilla. Her entire platform was pro-life. She is clearly pained as a climber.

(if this link doesn’t work, sorry. I’m stoopid with links.)

Why do the Palin’s hate contraception. So much has been said about Bristol, but who gets knocked up at 43?

  • trophy(forparticipation)wife

Of 4.3 million births in the U.S., just over 100,000 are to women over 40.

As if they didn’t already have a good reason to do so, the whole world is laughing at us. We are so fucked.

  • snig

This may have been covered, but it should be said:
If only Bristol and her boyfriend had behaved just a little more like Bill and Monica, they and their families wouldn’t be going through this public spectacle. Who’s the bad role model now?

Sarah Palin and her family are crazy, we know them, hell somebody needs to ask her and Todd snorting some cocaine on that 55 gallon drum on Crosswind Lake – and then ask todd about his affair years ago, then ask todd about his brother JD and all the cocaine he sold as a dealer (and was arrested for it) and then ask somebody about track (their son) being forced to go in the army after his hockey coach kicked him off the team for misbehavior, Sarah is the biggest bitch and he has always sacrificed her family (look was she is doing to Bristol) for her own betterment, hell all the kids were raised by todd – sarah never gave a shit- those kids were only photo ops – hell about 6 months ago the younger one willow was caught getting to busy with some boy at 14. Those kids are left to roam unattended all the time. All true

  • spraklepeapooh

How about this: McCain/Palin ’08 “Country First, Family Last”. I mean, what kind of person abandons their family in a time of crisis in order to get political power? That’s what made Edwards’s affair so icky.

She got on a plane for a 6 hr flight after her amniotic sac ruptured. That can only be some kind of conscious or unconscious desire to abort or miscarry. This was widely reported and confirmed my mainstream press when it happened in April. At least, as even a right wing nut woman that’s had any children would tell you…it doesn’t say much for her judgement. There is some political/national emergency analogy there….
Getting on a 6 hr plane trip after your water broke is like Pres Bush taking time to finish reading the story of My Pet Goat to schoolchildren after two 737’s are flown into the NYC Twin Towers by terrorists. Oh…or flying to California to pick up a guitar while New Orleans drowns or thanking Putin for letting him know that Russia just invaded a democratically elected government before resuming his enjoyment of the olympic opening ceremonies. She’ll fit right in.

[re=79098]NedPepper[/re]: Hey Putz, you’re the only one here whose been TRYING [without success one notes] to “blow up” Barry’s past.

“We have a chance to win this and we’re focused on some knocked up kid. How sad are we getting?”

It ain’t a chance, bub; it’s a fuckin’ certainty, thanks to McCain’s mental incontinence. Don’t be using the royal “we,” ‘coz you’ve NEVER been part of the club.

And, yes, I’m sure you ARE getting “sad,” because you’re a fuckin’ Repub concern troll, so shove it sideways Tonypoo.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled snark….
