Here is a video of an adorable car nerd explaining why properly inflating your tires probably won’t save America. It has to do with math and numbers, YAWN! You see, we mustn’t assume that every single tire in the U.S. is horribly underinflated. However, it is apparently fine to assume that we have some sort of nationalized oil industry that will magically keep all 600,000 barrels of ANWR-produced oil within American confines, instead of selling it on the world market. Silly car hobo! [YouTube]

Why didn’t Barry listen to NAMBLA on this issue? WHY DOES NOT ONE LISTEN TO TEH NAMBLA?
Also: as an avid car enthusiast with no money for said car enthusiasm, Car & Driver can eat a dick.
This is why we have not had a president who was trained as an engineer.
shortsshortsshorts: No, a bag of dicks.
Patriotic Americans wouldn’t let their precious treasure out or foreign garbage in. Wait… I’m thinking of a bug in amber. Never mind.
Hah! Everyone knows our tires are stale, flat, and unprofitable.
if I properly inflated just MY tires, we’d probly save a coupla barrels!
Umm, but McCain doesn’t want to drill in ANWR, so none of the ANWR numbers are relevant. Why can’t idiots get their facts right?
Yeah, this is great but did anyone else notice that American Apparel is holding auditions on Monday in Richmond? I’m imagining hundreds of Wonkettes (tens? me?) showing up in colored cotton undies and tube sox.
Yet ANOTHER car magazine douchebag that refuses to accept that the muscle car era is over.
ANWAR!
OFFSHORE!
TIRE GUAGES!
What brilliant energy strategy will the Republicans come up with next to scream at each other in the dark?
scott_dog: that was comment from the you tube page. Explain that please.McCAin does not want to drill in ANWR? That’s not what I heard, read, saw. Proof please.
whiteasasheet:
My undies’ elasticity is on the wane, so…
RuperttheBear: Wait. I think Jimmy Carter had some engineering. I’m not sure if that’s funny.
I’m a car geek, but I hate, and have always hated these car magazine douchebags who freakout with their awful nerd fury on anything, anything at all, that seems to counter their weird libertarian right wing anti-environmentalist car nuttism.
I, for one, welcome the blow jobs from Barry.
RuperttheBear: Jimmy Carter, but that was nuclear not whatever this douchenozzle is.
Garble: NEW STRATEGY:
Hold a 12 year old boy in front of a group of those horny bastards and put them on an energy producing tread mill. SOLUTION FOUND.
So — with the proper angle and sufficient nitpicking, Obama’s suggestion (which is one facet of his energy plan), while it could save oil, won’t save as much oil as he says. Well — huge win for John “Conserve oil my ass” McCain!
lilblackcorvette: Upon review, that was you that made the comment!
Servo: Suspenders, thought of that?
Oh my god. The republicans are winning. Stupid people are talking about tire gauges while McCain prepares his Hoveround Power Chair for the White House staircase.
Stayed tuned to see what will this tool does with his remaining 11 minutes 20 seconds of fame. I’m sure it will be just as compelling.

FUCK ‘EM, GIT THE OIL.
lilblackcorvette: scott_dog:
For years, McCain has opposed drilling for oil in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR).
But McCain said he’d be willing to reconsider that stance as well.
“I would be more than happy to examine it again,” McCain said.
This is what Barry gets for getting specific with his plans. He should be more like McCain and just promise everybody all the pills Cindy can regurgitate (topless, I think) in order to stop the national bleeding…or whatever the hell it is he’s proposing to do about anything.
Well, Sara is clearly working overtime today. The post on McCain’s brilliant economic surge made me guffaw. When are Ken and Jim planning on moseying on over?
EnBuenOra: I love that you used the phrase “nerd fury.” I want to start a band and call it that.
I understand why he says Obama is wrong at the end of the video, but why does he say McCain is right? Is McCain right to want to drill for oil? Is McCain right to make fun of Obama for talking about tire pressure? Is McCain right to have ditched his fat old wife for a rich young one? I’m confused.
So…has no noticed that this man’s name is pronounced “CHUBBA CHEDDAR”??????
mookworthjwilson: examine it again…obama is open to it too. a major portion of the population is going for it also. I’m gettin nervous. Hopefully it’s all pandering, don’t you think?
mookworthjwilson: Generally he wants to pollute and kill whales and sharks, not moose and polar bears.
whiteasasheet:
My ass eats my undies enough, it doesn’t need to be force-fed.
RuperttheBear: Jimmy Carter had a degree in Physics. Physics isn’t engineering, its a remedy for when your anterior plumbing is blocked.
Delicious: Is McCain right to call his rich younger wife a cunt?
Keeping my inflatable girlfriend at the right pressure has also done wonders for my lovelife. Mr. Pocket Protector would probably sniff at that, too! Hey, where’d everybody go?
Like I’m going to listen to a guy who wacks off to a Shelby — the car, not the porn starlet.
Please.
JamesMichaelCurley: http://www.intelliot.com/blog/archives/2005/04/06/famous-engineers/
I patriotically drove 12 miles yesterday to the auto parts store to buy a tire gauge, and they were SOLD OUT.
Delicious: Let me summarize and condense what our car nerd friend has to say:
“I don’t normally get involved in politics, but regardless, I’m going to attack Senator Obama for spreading the word about a useful thing that people can do to make their cars more efficient. I also want to give McCain props (but remember: I’m not getting involved in politics) for supporting more drilling in ANWR, even though I don’t understand that less than 10% of the ANWR oil wouldn’t be sold in the United States.”
I can be a nerdy douchebag just like this editor can be. Just push me about coin collecting some time. Then you’ll see sparks fly.
his daughter is definitely dating a black guy
Of course, it’s not like Car And Driver is a tool of the Auto Industry and the Oil Industry that buy ads in his magazine or anything. Nope. Not one bit.
I only got 8 seconds into the video. His name is Csaba Csera, which he pronounces “Chubba Share-a.”
I stopped watching because I was ‘fraid he’d start talking about his sex life.
scott_dog: Actually, most things, McCain’s answer on that appears to be randomly generated every time you ask him.
What the hell is “bunker fuel”?
Is that Dick Cheneys portion of oil supply every year?
TGY: Tires? I thought that was a description of Ron Paul.
EnBuenOra: I am totally with you–the only automotive writer who seems to have a brain and a sense of reality is Jamie Kitman at Automobile Magazine. And I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if at some point he ends up being fired for being honest about the end of oil. Every time he writes a piece that is blunt about the state of the auto industry and driving, ass clowns flood the letters column questioning his patriotism, his religion (he is ‘not christian’ if you get my drift), his “Northeast elitism” and the usual stuff they—Republican NeoCon all-about-me morons—use as talking points.
Csaba Csera has always been a pocket-protector tool; as has Car & Driver (as ManchuCandidate said so well). They were huge opponents to air bags for more than 20 years (since the 60’s). They probably hate the idea that cars come equipped with belts and brakes, too (cuts down on the excitement!!! factor). And let’s face it, the only ‘excitement factor’ these guys experience comes from inanimate objects. They wouldn’t have a clue as to what to do with the American Apparel girls (or guys).
every time i hear about drilling i get thrill up my leg
Libbygirl: The better, moderately sane car writers have often been local writers, like Dan Neil and Jean Lindamood from Automobile.
And I’m not even expecting writers with some sort of high-level understanding of the environment or national policy — just less of that hyperactive panic based on completely moronic mental stereotypes of the stinky stupid repressive hippies (maybe complete with stink flies hovering and John Lennon glasses like The Onion’s fake cartoonist always draws) whenever ANY possible automotive limitation or questioning of automotive wisdom is discussed.
A similar thing happens at Popular Science and Popular Mechanics when they breathlessly and swooningly report on each and every exciting potential new military gigantobudget gadget and anyone writes a letter in with even the mildest questioning of its necessity or moral wisdom.
I’m not expecting writers in either group to somehow magically rise above their genre philosophically, just to not be such vicious, petty, pseudo-engineer right wing ‘libertarian’ jerkoffs.
I have had a subscription to C&D for a really, really long time. It used to funny, well-written, irreverent, and depict women with large, pendulous breasts for my occasional viewing pleasure. Now it’s an info-mercial, with pieces by blowhard fascists like Brock Yates and Chubba Cheddar here. Anything more you have to say to, C&D, say it by your November issue.
itgetter: I heart Sara’s snark. It’s so precise and pointy.
Why would Chubba Chedda find the need to make an official statement as Editor-In-Chief. What an irrelevant attention whore. Fuck you, fuck Pat Bedard, John Phillips is cool, I’m out.
glamourdammerung: lilblackcorvette: mookworthjwilson: Rats! I knew I should have prefaced my remark with “Unless McCain has flip flopped yet again.”
I was thinking of this: http://townhall.com/Columnists/AmandaCarpenter/2008/06/17/drill,_but_not_in_anwr_says_mccain
Maybe he just doesn’t remember what his positions are anymore. Is it still considered a flip-flop if it’s brought about by senility, though?
scott_dog: I honestly have no idea how McCain feels about ANWR drilling at the moment. http://www.commentarymagazine.com/blogs/index.php/jpodhoretz/19761
Perhaps this is all part of his master plan to confuse the electorate enough on the positions that we’ll just have to vote on whether we’re “pro-old white dude” or “pro-young black guy who probably mugged me at some point in the past or will mug me at some point in the future”.
I’ve read Car & Driver for like 20 years and I always pronounced that idiot’s name Ces-ba Ces-ra.
Boy do I feel stupid now.
RuperttheBear: Herbert Hoover was an engineer before he got into public service. He’s the reason why there hasn’t been an engineer president since.
RuperttheBear: Nope, not just Hoover, but James Earl (Jones) Carter was an engineer as well, of the Nukular Variety. I watched a Frontline or Nova on the 3 Mile Island Meltdown and picked up that handy dandy factoid.
You do not need a tire gauge to see these guys are full of AIR!!!!They are both truly inflated.
