Three Cheers For Modern Building Codes

by Sara K. Smith

  • John McCain and his surrogates continue to allege that Barack Obama didn’t visit troops in Germany because he couldn’t take cameras with him, despite the fact that they cannot produce a single piece of evidence supporting this. [Washington Post]
  • Meanwhile, John McCain did have some nice things to say for moronic alcoholic waitress-assaulting sex criminal and Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons. [Wall Street Journal]
  • Georgia provides a test case for Obama’s theory that he can actually tip some red states into the blue column. Says Tucker Bounds, John McCain’s latest mouthpiece: “I cannot begin to analyze or make sense of the political strategy employed by the Obama campaign.” [Politico]
  • The CIA confronted top Pakistani officials with information about how their secret service is colluding with the militants they’re supposed to be helping us “root out.” [New York Times]
  • President Bush signed a housing bill he had threatened to veto. Highlights: a bailout for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, as well as a measure to refinance troubled mortgages into 30-year, government-backed loans. [The Hill]
  • Yesterday’s earthquake in Southern California scared a bunch of people, but the physical damage looks relatively limited. [Los Angeles Times]

esterday’s earthquake in Southern California scared a bunch of people, but the physical damage looks relatively limited.

Was anybody listening to the CNN coverage early yesterday? It was awesome… breathless… you’d have thought the whole of L.A. had been sucked into the gaping crevasse created by the shifting tectonic plates… except when you listened to what they were actually saying it was stuff like “there have been reports of broken dishes, an expensive vase that some guy’s mother in law bought them fell over and cracked, and then this dude I know stubbed his toe jumping out of the tub.”

Can’t wait ’till the Big One hits and these guys have something “actual” to report on.

“I cannot begin to analyze or make sense of the political strategy employed by the Obama campaign.”

It’s really funny to see military Geniuz and war winner McCain not figure out that Barry’s using 4th Generation Warfare aka guerilla warfare translated into more passive politics as an election campaign. By the time, Hilsbot figured it out (with all her political staff minus Fatty Penn) the Obama Minh were already deep in the wire of her Dien Bien Phu. Instead of trying to out O the O, McCain’s decided to use the Lucille Bluth/Chiang Kai-Shek strategy of “if I don’t understand it then I will ignore it.” The end result will be the SEC comes after your ass thanks to information brought by a disgruntled adopted son or fleeing in victory to Arizona. Either way will be hilarious.

I only caught a glimpse.

I’m only surprised they didn’t bring up the Mole People! Fear the Mole people! They will rule over the overworld!

I’m still reeling from the “Crucifix Cheeto” that my local news thought was necessary to report first thing in the morning.

“Says Tucker Bounds, John McCain’s latest mouthpiece: “I cannot begin to analyze or make sense of the political strategy employed by the Obama campaign.”

Yes, we know. And it’s both delicious and painful to watch.

“The CIA confronted top Pakistani officials with information about how their secret service is colluding with the militants they’re supposed to be helping us “root out.”

So, when Bushco. gives bin Laden a pass ["I don't really think about him that much any more"], it’s A-OK. But when Pakistan does the same thing, it’s somehow wrong?

“President Bush signed a housing bill he had threatened to veto. Highlights: a bailout for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, as well as a measure to refinance troubled mortgages into 30-year, government-backed loans.”

Because when government bails out fat cat investors, it’s merely being responsive to the needs of Americans. But when government bails out the people, it’s fucking SOCIALISM! *ptui*

[re=47483]ManchuCandidate[/re]: They didnt have any Mole People, but they did have an interview with this delightful young fellow:

But all he’d go on about was not having enough airtime and that the shake had smashed a jar of applesauce. Poor fellow, seems most put out.

[re=47479]Serolf Divad[/re]: “crevasse” should be the word of the day. Or, our new euphemism for assfucking.

[re=47487]Delicious[/re]: I died from this comment and am posting this from the afterlife. I’ll be back after three days or so.

Also, the title says it all: if LA were India there’d be 20,000 dead at least. We’re quite fortunate that LA is martian, instead.

McCain’s campaign released a statement from retired Sgt. Maj. Craig Layton, who worked as a commander at the hospital, who said: “If Senator Obama isn’t comfortable meeting wounded American troops without his entourage, perhaps he does not have the experience necessary to serve as commander in chief.”

I know what that’s supposed to mean. I mean, I can understand the language and share the same fundamental psychological and cognitive functions of most humans. But. Fuck.

Oooo. BUTTFUCK.

Servo July 30, 2008 at 10:01 am

[re=47511]RuperttheBear[/re]:
Funny, I can’t remember the last time King George or Duke Cheney visited wounded troops.

Baconcat July 30, 2008 at 10:06 am

[re=47511]RuperttheBear[/re]: The key word there is “entourage”. Entourage is a codeword for ‘yong’, which is a codeword for ‘hip’ which is a codeword for ‘urban’ which is a codeword for ‘black’.

Or the statement, loosely translated from old-whitemaleinese:

“OMG he’s black, people! BLACK! I get it, you’re having fun and you’re winding up the olds but this joke has gone far enough! He’s black! Do you understand how close to winning this thing he is?!? Seriously!”

Did you SEE the picture attached to that Politico article? It’s HILARIOUS! “Barry heals sick boy” or something akin. This photo should be used immediately and often on Our Wonkette.

“Three Cheers For Modern Building Codes” totes sounds like the title to a They Might Be Giants b-side.

Serolf Divad July 30, 2008 at 10:42 am

[re=47528]Baconcat[/re]:

Yup… McCain has a “campaign staff” that travels with him, like Reagan. But Obama has an “entourage” like P. Diddy… because he’s black and all.

[re=47553]NoWireHangers[/re]: No no. He’s patting a lawn jockey statue for good luck. My grandmother Harriet has one in West Virginia.

I must say, the text in the link you provided is VERY MISLEADING, VERY MISLEADING INDEED.

[re=47554]obfuscator[/re]: I have everything they’ve ever recorded, I’m pretty sure. It’s not a song, but I understand they’ll take suggestions.

“…despite the fact that they cannot produce a single piece of evidence supporting this.”
Can’t we just take his word for it? He’s a war hero, he wouldn’t lie.

IBelieveInFiatMoney July 30, 2008 at 12:31 pm

[re=47553]NoWireHangers[/re]: Definitely the best part about that picture is the URL. Definitely.

It could be accurate, though — just look at the way Barry seems to be biting his lip, and the look on the kid’s face.

donner_froh July 30, 2008 at 12:32 pm

[re=47488]Canuckledragger[/re]: “The CIA confronted top Pakistani officials with information about how their secret service is colluding with the militants they’re supposed to be helping us “root out.”

Wonderful that the multi-billion dollar secret agent juggernaut is getting around to information that anyone could pick up from Amazon or Barnes and Noble since 1999. Possibly earlier, but that’s when Ahmed Rashid’s was first published.

donner_froh July 30, 2008 at 12:40 pm

“For four days, Sen. John McCain and his allies have accused Sen. Barack Obama of snubbing wounded soldiers by canceling a visit to a military hospital because he could not take reporters with him, despite no evidence that the charge is true.”

It will be nice when the Dems start really pounding McCain for being a doddering old fool.
