It keeps you in a job, which is rare these days?
Holy crap — I completely forgot “presumptuous” in a certain now-defunct website’s section called A Children’s Treasury of Euphemisms for ‘Uppity Negro.’
The essence of Milbank’s thesis seems to be that Obama, by meeting people he might have to work with should he win the election, he is conveying to Milbank that he has already won the election. Maybe this wouldn’t be presumptuous if the ship of state hadn’t been steered for the last nearly eight years by a dude who clearly did his homework on the bus to school every morning. Or had his nanny do it for him in the limo, or whatever.
SayItWithWookies: I thought he didn’t even turn in his homework but got a free pass like some richies and athlete-types sometimes do. I mean, he doesn’t even bother to pretend to do his homework now.
NotUrEvryDayWEzl: That’s probably true. I mean, I’ve heard such people exist, but I was led to believe that I would be struck by lightning if I didn’t do my homework, so I didn’t even consider it. O, to be privileged and stupid, and too damn privileged and stupid to even know or care.
Oh, Milbank. Stop the presses: Presidential candidate tries to give off impression to supporters and the like that he is, in fact, presidential.
“This is the moment . . . that the world is waiting for. I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions.”
Barry, shhhhhh. Let Obamatards like me say that stuff for you. Otherwise the geniuses on Morning Joe will talk about how stuck up you are for a half hour and then Joe will bring up Michelle Obama’s “proud” comment and I’ll want to kill myself by swallowing my remote.
SayItWithWookies: Never fear! “Presumptuous” made it in there.
God, that headline just made me feel all warm and fuzzy…as if my insides were all unicorns and sunshine.
itgetter: WE have become .. I meant WE have become.. damn crack!
No, there’s no need to continue coverage of this so you can go back to ass-fucking stories.
The Secret Service coverage is just for show. I mean, is there really anyone out there who’d bother to attempt to harm a presidential candidate? That almost never happens.
It’s only been seven years and some months since the president of the United States paid attention to others and actually listened to what people had to think and say. You’d think Obama could wind it in for another six months, and you’d think the American people could cool their jets already. Aren’t responsive public servants worth waiting for?
SayItWithWookies: You object to the word presumptuous? He said “This is the moment . . . that the world is waiting for.” “I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions.” It only took two posts for someone to play the race card. Labelling any criticism of Obama as racism is getting very grating.
I’m not sure how anyone could have seen Obama addressing “people of the world” in Berlin and not recognize that arrogance. Remember when he lost the last debate and did that wiping dust off his jacket gesture? That is something even Bush wouldn’t be arrogant enough to do.
He is shutting out the press, ducking debates and acting as thnough he is the second coming. This will lose him an easily winnable election.
just because you feel inadequate doesn’t mean everyone has to feel that way.
Canmon (the Inadequate): and calling yourself inadequate does’nt make you adequate
i am hooked on the word adequate now
Obama should go home and spend the next two months clearing brush. That would be really presumptuously presidential.
Vote for Barack- he’s Adequate
The adequate Nominee
Let’s try all caps:
OBAMA -THE ADEQUATE NOMINEE FOR PRESIDENT.
Nope, just not hopey enough for me.
BARACK -THE PRESUMPTIVE NOMINEE OF THE HUBRIS PARTY
I keep telling you people, the press is in love with John McCain, not Hopey.
They trailed behind Hopey in the Middle East and the Euro-stans, hoping and praying for a front page fuck-up, but it didn’t come to pass. So, they had to settle for reaming him for not visiting the wounded. Small potatoes, to be sure, but Hopey didn’t give much else to work with.
Meanwhile, they give a pass to McCain by not covering his Gaffe-Of-The-Day. If they did, the polls wouldn’t even be close.
WAKE UP PEOPLE! [Sorry, but I really can't stop doing that.]
Canmon (the Inadequate): Yes, this is the moment the world has been waiting for - when the sane people who give a crap about the world return to the White House. Not just the president himself (or herself), but the people they put in charge of all those policy decision which affect the world outside of the 50 states.
The (sane)people inside the 50 states have been waiting as well. Seen those approval ratings?
This is the moment!
(Wondering if Canmon has seen even one of those little bumper stickers with the date and time in 2009 that Bush will no longer be President. Waiting, indeed!)
Is this getting violent again? “HE’S ARROGANT!” “HE’S SYMBOLIC!”
WAKE UP PEOPLE: HE’s deliciously chocolaty!
SayItWithWookies: Please let WaHoPo pick this up as Comment of the Day!
NotUrEvryDayWEzl: Yeah, even if the athlete-type is a C average cheerleader.
Canmon (the Inadequate): Welcome to Wonkette, Harriet.
Dana, Dana, Dana. Let me write your column next week for you. here goes.
Barack Obama is presumptuous. Obama is arrogant. Obama thinks he’s already won the election. How dare Obama ask questions of people running major government offices? Obama is arrogant and presumptuous for meeting with world leaders. Obama talks like an arrogant, presumptuous dilletante. The word on the street is that people are getting tired of Obama’s presumptuous arrogance.
there you go. i’ll send you a bill.
This is clearly the new lazy media theme-o-the-week…CNN had a headline the other day saying something like “Obama: do voters find him TOO presidential?” Yes, that’s it! You’ve hit it on the head, CNN. Voters do not like their potential presidents to act all presidenty. It’s offputting. We’d really much rather they act like drunk horny frat boys. Thanks for clearing that up.
Rejected headlines: That Negro Sure is Getting Uppity!
Ok, but I saw this show on TV about this guy that was able to see the future because he got the next days paper in advance. It could be like that, because the show seemed so real.
Canmon (the Inadequate):
Bush would have never been subjected to the ridiculous questions they tossed to Barack in that debate. You know that, right?
Sorry, but I want a president who is smarter than me. That knocks out both Hillary and McNasty.
Obama wins by being exceptional.
McCain wanted to ride the Obama coat tails by having town hall ‘debates’ which would only benefit McCain because people would be ‘interested’ enough to watch.
There are three debates on the schedule so far. Thats not enough for you?
Is McCain a top or a bottom?
Canmon (the Inadequate): But, but that’s the way it works, right? Criticism of McCain - ageism, lack of patriotism.
Hillary - sexism.
Barry - racism, anti-hopism.
So, the press is a pack of ageist, sexist, unpatriotic, racist anti-hopey’s. As are we all.
Having the media’s endorsement is a curse anyways. Everyone keeps bringing up John McCain’s media darling status in the 2000 election. And umm, people, where did that get him?
WALNUTS! is going to win.
