Up yours, Restaurant AssociatesCongressional staffers all love Doris, a cashier who has worked in the Longworth Cafeteria since the beginning of time. Rumor has it that she was suspended on Wednesday because her register was $9 short. Some concerned citizens “hope to join in a show of support for Doris by boycotting the cafeterias. Since all the cafeterias are owned by the Restaurant Associates we ask that you avoid all of them that day, but we realize that’s difficult during a day we’re in session. Please, if nothing else avoid Longworth.” Do your part, people! Support Doris and pack a lunch. [Capitolist]

Is she the one who called that weaselly little Republican doofus “sweetie” that one time, and he complained of sexual harassment?

House cafeteria for 30 years? I’ll bet she can serve up some finger-lickin’ goooood stories. Give her a talk show, book contract and lecture tour. Serve ‘em the right stuff.

If your drawer is short by something divisible by 9 then it is the result of a transposition. She basically gave someone the wrong change…a $10 instead of a $1. Things you learn working as a bank teller.

[re=43945]AfghanVet[/re]: Ok. Check the Congressmens pockets. Who came out with an extra $10?

NINE DOLLARS? THAT IS LIKE .02 EUROS THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED IF HILLARY WAS OUR NOMINEE…

VERY LOUD NOISES… YYYYAAAAAAAWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!1!

Suspend the cafeteria lady for being off $9. Other contract workers, such as KBR and Halliburton, misplace a few million here and there, let bygones be bygones.

[re=43962]WIDTAP[/re]: I’d start with the republicrat members to save time.

[re=43945]AfghanVet[/re]: Best trick ever. Do they really not know this one?

My source on the inside tells me that she’s back at work today and that Restaurant Associates sent an apologetic e-mail to everyone who complained.

EnBuenOra July 25, 2008 at 10:33 am

I promise to maintain my lifelong boycott of this cafeteria.

This would never have happened if Mr. Prince’s fine organization had the contract.

[re=43978]pondscum[/re]: Yup…one of the first things they teach you. However, it is more useful when closing a bank drawer because you take deposits and the like and you have to add it all up at the end of the shift. Neat trick, I use it when we are paying out for our poker games.

Lunch Lady Doris? The same one that greased up Groundskeeper Willy?

ReelectTilden July 25, 2008 at 11:37 am

[re=43945]AfghanVet[/re]: I was going to write the same thing (also a former bank teller). Errors involving 9 or 90 are almost always transposition errors — either the wrong change given or the wrong number typed in.

Of course, it could also be that she knew that and secretly plotted for years to use this inside knowledge of cash transaction errors to steal nine dollars and retire to Costa Rica.

smarties!

donner_froh July 25, 2008 at 11:59 am

I will never eat at the cafeteria in the Longworth Building. Since this is the first time I have heard of it my principled boycott will not be difficult to maintain.

Someone was suspended because a register was nine dollars short? What? Huh? And it’s a veteran worker who’s been there forever? What kind of stupid, backwards, dumb, idiotic management is that? The manager who suggested the suspension should be suspended–for a week.

wonk_the_heck July 25, 2008 at 2:37 pm

Obviously the McDonald’s boycott would have been more effective if it had
been organized by an informal group of House staffers.

American Spectator July 25, 2008 at 10:19 pm

I confess. I was goofing around and did the whole short change routine on her. Ha! But alas, I did not want my sweet, sweet Doris to get suspended. She gives great head.

0ldsteel211 July 26, 2008 at 9:29 pm

Her supervisor should have lunch poured into their underbriefs and made to stand in the corner till recess.
Nine bucks…
I know its a cafeteria, but that is not even a good tip.
