HIGH CRITICISM  3:47 pm July 21, 2008

Pat Leahy Is A WHORE

by Jim Newell

Did you spend double-digit money this weekend to see the Most Important Film Of Our Time, Batman Vs. The Dead Gay Cowboy Clown? YEAH YOU DID BECAUSE YOU LIKE HIGH ART. As we’ve mentioned previously, the dead Joker harasses Sen. Patrick Leahy at some fancy Washington cocktail party (Capitol File?) in this Work of Deep Brilliant Cinema, which is based on a comic book for children. And because Pat Leahy is a whore in real life, he has written a review of the film for known modernist film trade publication The Hill. It is an exciting review which you can read in its entirety after the jump.

“The Dark Knight” Was Brilliantly Made (Sen. Patrick Leahy)
July 21st, 2008

This, more than any earlier film, explores the psychotic nature of the Joker, but also the psychological conflicts in the Batman. It was brilliantly filmed, and Heath Ledger’s performance was so good that it shows us what great potential there was in an actor who died much too young.

Yep, that’s it. WHY WON’T HE TELL US MORE ABOUT THE BATMAN AND HIS CONFLICTS.

Hola wonkerados.

To improve site performance, we did a thing. It could be up to three minutes before your comment appears. DON'T KEEP RETRYING, OKAY?

Also, if you are a new commenter, your comment may never appear. This is probably because we hate you.

That animated .gif does clearly show off the brilliance of IMAX. Wait, that’s not from the new movie?

Oh sure, but when Ledger was alive everybody was like “EWWW HE WAS IN BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN.”

I’m told the editors changed that last line from: “… and Pat Leahy’s performance was so good that it shows us what great potential there is in a Senator from Vermont who’s only made one movie in his whole life!”

Jaz Coleman in da face.

The Batman is a wealthy Republican, right? We all know what his conflicts are.

On a side note… there seems to be a lot of erroneous underlining going on in this post… :\

Yes…it’s my favorite movie scene ever!

Isn’t Leahy the one Cheney told to “f*(& off”? I like him for that reason alone! Anyone who can get Dick’s dander up is all right with me!

[re=40536]NotUrEvryDayWEzl[/re]: That very neatly explains Robin then, thank you…

Some days you just can’t get rid of a bomb.

“To the BatCave, Larry…er, I mean, Robin.”

SayItWithWookies July 21, 2008 at 3:58 pm

I was hoping the Leahy review would go beyond the anodyne message of the film trailer — an examination of the “good-evil dichotomy” and strenthening relations between the Bat Cave and City Hall. I’m wondering if Leahy chose the Joker as his antagonist because he intends to make the case for….Jokerism.

[re=40540]Texan Bulldoggette[/re]: Yes, indeed, also:

‘Leahy joked about the incident in 2007 when he escorted Bernie Sanders, Vermont’s newly-elected senator, to the well of the Senate where he was sworn in by Cheney: “When it comes to the vice president, it’s always better to be sworn in than to be sworn at”.’

He gets my vote, too.

[re=40551]pierce bottoms[/re]: I’ve tried, but I never get it to go under all the way.

I’ve come close though! So thanks!

Damit Jim. I did not spend my hard-earned money to see a moody guy in tights this weekend.
But maybe, just maybe, Pat Leahy sees himself as Batman to Dick Cheney’s Joker. And we know how this ends up.

Cape Clod July 21, 2008 at 4:17 pm

Any other actor than Adam West, and that scene just winds up looking fairly silly.

Advocatus_Diaboli July 21, 2008 at 4:35 pm

I like Leahy, too; but it’s a damn shame he’d rather do cameos in a stupid summer schlockbuster than put Rove, Gonzo etc. in jail.

StupidGeek July 21, 2008 at 4:39 pm

Double-digit money? Haha, suckers, I skipped out of work on Friday for ‘lunch’ and caught a matinee for the mere price of $8.

Dr. Tobias Funke July 21, 2008 at 4:44 pm

Leahy cried on the Senate floor when Jerry Garcia died. That alone makes him the best senator thats ever lived.

wheelie July 21, 2008 at 4:48 pm

If Heath ledger does not win two Oscars, a Grammy and a Peabody for his role, I will never take a Batman movie seriously again.

HedonismBot July 21, 2008 at 4:57 pm

The Senator is not intimidated by thugs in real life, either. He just sends them lots of Sternly Worded Letters.

dearest July 21, 2008 at 5:00 pm

I don’t dislike Leahy, but I would think that a senator may have some work to do, aside his media/film/reviewer career.

sanantonerose July 21, 2008 at 5:04 pm

I dunno. I think Gary Oldman could do a dual role as Gordon AND The Joker. Next film! Mark my words.

Leahy wasn’t bad in his role as “the only person to talk back to the joker at Bruce Wayne’s fancy and totes lame party” but all I could think was “that’s the guy that Cheney told…” well you know.

GayInMaine July 21, 2008 at 5:13 pm

Sadly, I saw “Mamma Mia” this weekend instead.

But that’s not too surprising, since I am one of teh gays.

Oh – and Meryl Streep is a godess.

Batman set up us the f-bomb.
