Winners Never Quit, And Quitters Never Win

So, the mortgage crisis will lead to a whole new generation of children molested by strangers?

  4. MrAgro says at 9:12 am, July 16th, 2008

Servo: A hilarious Jib Jab video? Impossible.

But Americans’ perceptions of the fall presidential election between Mr. Obama, Democrat of Illinois, and Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona, also underlined the racial discord that the poll found. More than 80 percent of black voters said they had a favorable opinion of Mr. Obama; about 30 percent of white voters said they had a favorable opinion of him.

Nearly 60 percent of black respondents said race relations were generally bad, compared with 34 percent of whites. Four in 10 blacks say that there has been no progress in recent years in eliminating racial discrimination; fewer than 2 in 10 whites say the same thing.

Yup, let’s face it. The notion that racism is no longer a problem in America is as much of a fantasy as the notion that cutting taxes and raising spending leads to lower deficits. And the guys who most strongly push the notion that racism is no longer a problem are probably perhaps the most racist of us all.

Rahm-bo as speaker? But then the Dems might appear to have a sack! Better leave it to the weak-willed and/or crazy-eyed…

From the NYT article: When Barbara Terry fell behind on her mortgage payments earlier this year, she did the previously unthinkable. Through a local housing organization, she and her daughter, Imani, 9, rented part of their single-family house to a stranger.

THIS is “unthinkable”? Taking in a boarder who pays rent in order to help you make ends meet?

The way that NYT article started, I thought she was going to sell her daughter into slavery, or start working as a drug mule. Now THAT would be unthinkable. Renting out a spare room? Not so much.

Phil Gramm is right. We, or at least the New York Times, are a bunch of whiners.

  10. Serolf Divad says at 9:32 am, July 16th, 2008

jagorev: I’m also considering renting out our spare bedroom to a a couple of teenage runaway ex-prostitute/pornographic-actresses, but for some reason my wife will have none of it.

  11. eyesfriedopen says at 9:36 am, July 16th, 2008

jagorev: Hey, if the Cunninghams could take in boarders in the salad days of the sixties (and Fonzie was a hoodlum!), then the suburban Bitter family can do it today.

Difference is, nowadays people are more isolated (fear will do that to you), so maybe they should take in virtual boarders. Or maybe build a boarder fence around the spare room.

  12. jagorev says at 9:41 am, July 16th, 2008

Serolf Divad: What really pissed me off about it is that I’m a boarder, and my landlord loves me for it - I take up the unused upper floor of their huge house, pay far too much in rent, don’t bother them in the least, and give them the equivalent of a third household income. But to go by what the NYT is saying, I’m probably some kind of ax murderer or child rapist. Sheesh.

Why do I get the feeling we’re stuck in a sick version of “It’s a Wonderful Life”?

“Oh honest Mary, I didn’t lose the money! I invested it in good quality sub prime mortgage bonds from Bear Stearns, rated AAAAA+++++ by Moody’s and back up by loans from InMac and Wachovia! Oh Mary, why are you pointing a shotgun at me?”

It seems that each time a bank fails, Cheney gets a new newborn to feast on.

    jagorev: You’re not?

  15. jagorev says at 9:54 am, July 16th, 2008

4tehlulz: God, you slip up with an ax just one time and you’re labelled an ax-murderer for life. It’s very frustrating.

  16. Serolf Divad says at 9:57 am, July 16th, 2008

    jagorev:

Wait… but is it really considered just one slip up if you wound up mutilating five campers? Wouldn’t that count as five slip ups?

  17. jagorev says at 10:03 am, July 16th, 2008

Serolf Divad: They were totally asking for it, what with their campfire songs and their s’mores. Some people just need a good ax-murdering, you know?

  18. DirkLeisure says at 10:07 am, July 16th, 2008

The NYT poll showing 31 percent of white voters having a favorable impression of Obama also shows that McCain only has a 35 percent favorable rating among white voters.

When will John McCain bridge his racial divide with white voters?

  19. Of course, Barry woke up today, brushed his pretty teeth, read the paper, and dashed off a scathing response between swishes of Listerine.

I’m just surprised there wasn’t a run on the banks yesterday when Dubya and Bernanke said they were on top of the problem. Did anyone notice a spike in the sales of Mason jars and shovels?

  24. NoWireHangers says at 12:35 pm, July 16th, 2008

DirkLeisure: Exactly. The burden of solving America’s race problem is Barack Obama’s sole duty. Has anyone ever raised this issue with any of the 43 white male presidents or any of the hundreds of white male candidates that preceded Obama? Obama is also leading in almost all of the national polls.

Sometimes I want to punch the NYT in the typeface.

  25. RuperttheBear says at 2:00 pm, July 16th, 2008
  26. Cicada says at 3:04 pm, July 16th, 2008

DirkLeisure: AxmxZ: That is just amazingly naked spin. Bravo, NYT, for doing such a bang-up job of continuing the “white people hate Barry” narrative.

I can’t wait for the “Hardball” and “Situation Room” discussion of this article. I’m betting for lots of Rev. Wright in a dashiki in the background graphics. Cue the “concerned” pundits and a discussion about how the Bud and TRUCK NUTZ types have been alienated by Barry’s rumored radical mooslem upbringing. Bonus: they can use this to milk another few references to that New Yorker cover.
