Pictured here straining to clarifyIt’s Gay Tuesday here on Wonkette, so we bring you this exciting Gay News Update: John McCain said the other day that only man-and-lady-style couples should be allowed to adopt, and now he is saying something different! Of course, because he is a politician, he is obliged to declare that he has been “perfectly clear” on this issue all along.

So here is what he said first, as reported a couple days ago in that racy New York rag (read by many homosexuals):

“I think that we’ve proven that both parents are important in the success of a family so, no, I don’t believe in gay adoption.”

And then here is what Jill Hazelbaker, his Director of Communications, said today via Andrew Sullivan:

McCain could have been clearer in the interview in stating that his position on gay adoption is that it is a state issue, just as he made it clear in the interview that marriage is a state issue. He was not endorsing any federal legislation.

McCain’s expressed his personal preference for children to be raised by a mother and a father wherever possible. However, as an adoptive father himself, McCain believes children deserve loving and caring home environments, and he recognizes that there are many abandoned children who have yet to find homes. McCain believes that in those situations that caring parental figures are better for the child than the alternative.

When will McDonald’s start boycotting John McCain?

  1. I know! We can let the queers adopt brown American orphans, while still reserving the import of Chinese fashion accessory orphans to God-fearing breeders!

  2. Being raised by wolves myself, I can’t abide this cowardly position. Yet another enemy to eviscerate, and, mind you, my status entitles me to the kidneys.

  3. nothing quite like a morality lecture from someone who leaves their wife after she’s been injured in a car accident for some plastic tramp heiress.

  4. If there aren’t enough straight couples willing to adopt these kids, can’t we take a different route before opening the flood gates to the immorality of Gay adoption? Like perhaps setting up a network of orphanages run by paedophile priests to see to their care?

  5. Well, you know, when he was a POW he was sleeping one night and Jeebus came to him and whispered “states’ rights” in a dream. So now he is just passing on the word of Jeebus.

By the way, did he mention he’s a former POW?

  6. Clearly the Senator watched I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry on HBO Zone this, and clarified his thoughts and shit for us poof-tastic leftwing bitchasses.
But what does his dry cunt of a second wife have to day?

  7. I believe that my feelings on this can best be summed up by one of the deep thinkers on the McDonalds boycott site. Just substitute “McCain” for “McDonald’s” and “truck nutz” for “cute toys.”

“Gone is that family-friendly atmosphere (more than just cute toys and colorful chairs) that depicts and rejoices in true families, one mother, one father and children, eating together. Now we must have depicted two fathers with their adopted children (sick), and children who don’t morally know their right hand from their left. What have you done, McDonald’s?”

  8. [re=36628]tunamelt[/re]: Yes. Because by golly, nobody else has.

I hope someone responds with “I am looking for your Truck Nutz.” “I will give you 5$ for your Nutz.”

  9. Clearly, gay people are not fit to be parents. In fact, they are barely fit to be human beings. I say we burn them all at the stake. Unfortunately, this will decimate the Repugnantcan party.

  10. So, if Presidential candidates can say “I think it should be left to the individual States to decide”, can Gubernatorial candidates say “I think it should be left to the individual Cities to decide” and then can Mayoral candidate say “I think it should be left to the individual to decide”?
If so, McCain supports Gay adoption, but only if you do.

  11. “I think it should be left to the individual States to decide… whether or not to ratify this spiffy new No Gay Marriage Amendment!”

  12. i must say, thats awfully white of McCain…

and what a neat trick too…reassure the bitters that you personally dont support adoptions by gays….then twist the statement around so that you sound vaguely human ie..non-bitter…. but support your non-bitter position by using one of the oldest code phrases for intolerance in the ‘southern strategy’ handbook [ultra bitter]……

  13. [re=36629]Donkey Sauce[/re]: He could walk through the Haight with an armed escort and Hueys providing air cover. “The situation in San Francisco is stable with considerably less gayness…”

  14. Wow!

McCain claims that he believes permitting gays and lesbians to adopt children is better than leaving the kids abandoned in unused building stairwells?

    How enlightened of him.

  15. [re=36620]shortsshortsshorts[/re]: We should chip in to get one for all the posters on Wonk. It’s better to write about what you know!

  16. Is Mc Cranky’s point that we are doing a fine job of fucking up the kids without gay people helping us out? Cause, you know, he might have a point there.

  17. [re=36774]WaldoJeffersHead[/re]: Well, to be fair to McCain and his armor-carrying, hard hat-wearing advance team, they’re find when they get to San Francisco that it is, in fact, raining men.
    Hallelujah. Amen.
    Raining men.
