John McCain Says Maybe Gay Adoption Preferable To Child Abandonment

by Sara K. Smith

Pictured here straining to clarifyIt’s Gay Tuesday here on Wonkette, so we bring you this exciting Gay News Update: John McCain said the other day that only man-and-lady-style couples should be allowed to adopt, and now he is saying something different! Of course, because he is a politician, he is obliged to declare that he has been “perfectly clear” on this issue all along.

So here is what he said first, as reported a couple days ago in that racy New York rag (read by many homosexuals):

“I think that we’ve proven that both parents are important in the success of a family so, no, I don’t believe in gay adoption.”

And then here is what Jill Hazelbaker, his Director of Communications, said today via Andrew Sullivan:

McCain could have been clearer in the interview in stating that his position on gay adoption is that it is a state issue, just as he made it clear in the interview that marriage is a state issue. He was not endorsing any federal legislation.

McCain’s expressed his personal preference for children to be raised by a mother and a father wherever possible. However, as an adoptive father himself, McCain believes children deserve loving and caring home environments, and he recognizes that there are many abandoned children who have yet to find homes. McCain believes that in those situations that caring parental figures are better for the child than the alternative.

When will McDonald’s start boycotting John McCain?

So it’s a states’ rights issue? Liking whipping the field hands?

4tehlulz July 15, 2008 at 3:18 pm

ARE YOU QUESTIONING JOHN MCCAIN’S INTEGRITY?

meanfag July 15, 2008 at 3:19 pm

that’s heartwarming.

FMA July 15, 2008 at 3:20 pm

[re=36571]4tehlulz[/re]: John McCain’s what?

Guppy06 July 15, 2008 at 3:21 pm

I know! We can let the queers adopt brown American orphans, while still reserving the import of Chinese fashion accessory orphans to God-fearing breeders!

irisheyes July 15, 2008 at 3:22 pm

Dumb fuck. I know loads of “normal” parents who’ve got no business raising kids.

FindFuckandFlee July 15, 2008 at 3:23 pm

Being raised by wolves myself, I can’t abide this cowardly position. Yet another enemy to eviscerate, and, mind you, my status entitles me to the kidneys.

meanfag July 15, 2008 at 3:23 pm

nothing quite like a morality lecture from someone who leaves their wife after she’s been injured in a car accident for some plastic tramp heiress.

4tehlulz July 15, 2008 at 3:24 pm

JOHN MCCAIN IS A STATE ISSUE. VOTE RON PAUL.

Truculent July 15, 2008 at 3:25 pm

So proposal to shoot geighs down in the streets like dogs is no longer operative? Must have missed that bit of subtlety.

Serolf Divad July 15, 2008 at 3:25 pm

If there aren’t enough straight couples willing to adopt these kids, can’t we take a different route before opening the flood gates to the immorality of Gay adoption? Like perhaps setting up a network of orphanages run by paedophile priests to see to their care?

Paultardville July 15, 2008 at 3:26 pm

Well, you know, when he was a POW he was sleeping one night and Jeebus came to him and whispered “states’ rights” in a dream. So now he is just passing on the word of Jeebus.

By the way, did he mention he’s a former POW?

HomoPolitico July 15, 2008 at 3:27 pm

Hey, somebody has to raise all of JOHN MCCAINS BLACK BABIES. Might as well let us do it.

weirdiowasculpture July 15, 2008 at 3:32 pm

Does McCain have a copy of the homosexual agenda? Could he please post it on his website?

Truculent July 15, 2008 at 3:38 pm

[re=36606]weirdiowasculpture[/re]: Ask for it at McDonalds. They’re behind the counter with the extra ketchup packs.

tunamelt July 15, 2008 at 3:40 pm

[re=36595]Serolf Divad[/re]: We should just euthanize them the way we do unwanted dogs and cats.

shortsshortsshorts July 15, 2008 at 3:41 pm

Clearly the Senator watched I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry on HBO Zone this, and clarified his thoughts and shit for us poof-tastic leftwing bitchasses.
But what does his dry cunt of a second wife have to day?

tunamelt July 15, 2008 at 3:44 pm

[re=36620]shortsshortsshorts[/re]: Did you post that?

Donkey Sauce July 15, 2008 at 3:44 pm

Shouldn’t he travel to San Francisco and talk to actual gays on the ground before developing a position on this?

itgetter July 15, 2008 at 3:45 pm

I believe that my feelings on this can best be summed up by one of the deep thinkers on the McDonalds boycott site. Just substitute “McCain” for “McDonald’s” and “truck nutz” for “cute toys.”

“Gone is that family-friendly atmosphere (more than just cute toys and colorful chairs) that depicts and rejoices in true families, one mother, one father and children, eating together. Now we must have depicted two fathers with their adopted children (sick), and children who don’t morally know their right hand from their left. What have you done, McDonald’s?”

jood42 July 15, 2008 at 3:49 pm

You hear that, fags? You only get leftovers. Take ‘em and be grateful!

Was McCain dropped on his head as an infant?

shortsshortsshorts July 15, 2008 at 3:50 pm

[re=36628]tunamelt[/re]: Yes. Because by golly, nobody else has.

I hope someone responds with “I am looking for your Truck Nutz.” “I will give you 5$ for your Nutz.”

magic titty July 15, 2008 at 3:54 pm

i was gay-adopted, and both my daddies had berginers!

Q2 July 15, 2008 at 3:56 pm

Clearly, gay people are not fit to be parents. In fact, they are barely fit to be human beings. I say we burn them all at the stake. Unfortunately, this will decimate the Repugnantcan party.

iwillsavethispatient July 15, 2008 at 4:14 pm

So, if Presidential candidates can say “I think it should be left to the individual States to decide”, can Gubernatorial candidates say “I think it should be left to the individual Cities to decide” and then can Mayoral candidate say “I think it should be left to the individual to decide”?
If so, McCain supports Gay adoption, but only if you do.

Guppy06 July 15, 2008 at 4:32 pm

“I think it should be left to the individual States to decide… whether or not to ratify this spiffy new No Gay Marriage Amendment!”

Makeithurt July 15, 2008 at 4:33 pm

Did he say anything about Cindy stealing babies from Bengladesh?

shortsshortsshorts July 15, 2008 at 4:42 pm

[re=36705]Makeithurt[/re]: Was she trading them for drugs?

Dairy Queen July 15, 2008 at 4:47 pm

If Cindy can do between popping pills and martinis so can the gays

loquaciousmusic July 15, 2008 at 4:59 pm

I love that McCain’s campaign e-mailed Andrew Sullivan. That’s just funny.

anabellum July 15, 2008 at 5:01 pm

i must say, thats awfully white of McCain…

and what a neat trick too…reassure the bitters that you personally dont support adoptions by gays….then twist the statement around so that you sound vaguely human ie..non-bitter…. but support your non-bitter position by using one of the oldest code phrases for intolerance in the ‘southern strategy’ handbook [ultra bitter]……

dearcatastrophecarlos July 15, 2008 at 5:05 pm

gays and lesbians, the parents of last resort.

WaldoJeffersHead July 15, 2008 at 5:14 pm

[re=36629]Donkey Sauce[/re]: He could walk through the Haight with an armed escort and Hueys providing air cover. “The situation in San Francisco is stable with considerably less gayness…”

Wee Mousie July 15, 2008 at 5:24 pm

Wow!

McCain claims that he believes permitting gays and lesbians to adopt children is better than leaving the kids abandoned in unused building stairwells?

How enlightened of him.

Combover July 15, 2008 at 6:02 pm

[re=36620]shortsshortsshorts[/re]: We should chip in to get one for all the posters on Wonk. It’s better to write about what you know!

masterdebater July 15, 2008 at 8:53 pm

Is Mc Cranky’s point that we are doing a fine job of fucking up the kids without gay people helping us out? Cause, you know, he might have a point there.

trai_dep July 16, 2008 at 2:44 am

[re=36774]WaldoJeffersHead[/re]: Well, to be fair to McCain and his armor-carrying, hard hat-wearing advance team, they’re find when they get to San Francisco that it is, in fact, raining men.
Hallelujah. Amen.
Raining men.

OhFuckThis July 16, 2008 at 3:38 am

Props to McCain. He can adopt my gay baby.
OhFuckThis, he can adopt all my problems, I can’t quite pay my bills…
