President Obama Will Inherit Iranian War

Want to freak yourself out? Watch this nice video with Uncle Sy Hersh, where he gives the condensed run-down on his latest terrifying New Yorker article. The best part is right at the end, where Hersh sort of smiles and shrugs and says, Yeah, if Obama’s elected Bush will bomb Iran before he’s out of office; if McCain’s elected Bush will let the new president bomb Iran whenever he feels like it. Jesus. [YouTube via Informed Comment]

Before we bomb we should make sure all the valuable carpets are in a safe place.

More wars for everyone! I can’t wait for $500 a barrel for oil.

I love the backdrop picture of dubya that makes it look like he’s saying “Ook! Ook!” and about to beat his chest and/or throw fecal matter at his audience.

    Oh, that silly Islamo-media!

you forgot to list the other option.

the one where we don’t bomb Iran.

there is a third option, right?

  5. SayItWithWookies says at 10:44 am, July 2nd, 2008

I heard that on the day we start bombing, all our comments will be underlined. Wait.

  6. scotterl says at 10:47 am, July 2nd, 2008

If one is going to be tried in absentia for war crimes you might as well use the rule of three. No?

Is this underscoring in the post supposed to be symbolic or something? Cause it’s extra servicy!

  8. queeraselvis v 2.0 says at 11:00 am, July 2nd, 2008

Oh great. The Pentagon is saying that Hersh’s article is “riddled with errors.” Translation: it’s 1000% true. Fuck. Fuckity fuck fuck.

Hmph. Seymour always has a theory about the next war. Lord knows he’s missed a few. I’m hoping he’s waaaay off on this nasty little turd of speculation…

  12. rottenart says at 11:03 am, July 2nd, 2008

I think we need to give the Middle East a rest. Can we bomb the shit out of Thailand or Swaziland or something?

  13. SayItWithWookies says at 11:03 am, July 2nd, 2008

Hey if Bush invades Iran it’ll be far more badass than his chickenshit dad invading Somalia. Like who the hell invades Somalia?! Didn’t Mussolini do that way back when? Probably for their rich strategic coco-de-mer reserves or something. Peacock Throne or Bust, I say.

  14. loudmouthredhead says at 11:06 am, July 2nd, 2008

queeraselvis v 2.0: Right. The official Pentagon response:
“Sillies! We’re using SPECIAL FORCES that are already in Iran, not BOMBS. Geeeez. *cough* bombscomelater *COUGH!*”

  15. loudmouthredhead says at 11:07 am, July 2nd, 2008

SayItWithWookies: So, if the underlines are removed, does that mean we’ve already bombed AND won? Hooray evil monkey-president!

  16. festinog says at 11:11 am, July 2nd, 2008

What? You mean Bush is threatening to attack a country in the middle east, with no thought of the consequences or concern for human life?

    How unlike him.

  18. 2goats says at 11:18 am, July 2nd, 2008

You know, it would save a lot of fuel if we just move all those troops and equipment and what not next door, now we got Iraq all pacified, democracized and productive again, instead of schleping them all the way back here where we got no jobs for ‘em anyway, and we are just gonna have to foreclose on their houses. Geo. Bush really will get a special place in history.

  19. queeraselvis v 2.0 says at 11:19 am, July 2nd, 2008

rottenart: Bombing Zimbabwe would be a nice way of bringing sexy back to ‘Murica. But because all Zimbabwe’s got to offer is a bunch of poor, downtrodden black folks, Bush wouldn’t bother. It would be too much like bombing New Orleans.

What’s more, Hersh’s scenario makes complete sense. Bush is probably telling Israel he’ll blow the prime minister in public if the IDF would do the dirty work for us.

    W. snorts a line, finishes his brew, then embraces the rush as he shits on the White House furniture and wipes his ass on the tapestries.

W: Let’s see Barry try to clean this up! Hehehe…

Barry O bursts in, punches W. in the snout, pulls his arms behind his back so his hands cup his dingleberries.

    W. squirms and gives up, unable to break Barry’s black grip of death.

Barry SLAMS W.’s face into the feces covered coffee table as he chastises the outgoing president.

Barry: You like the way that smells, you retarded monkey? Huh?

    W. laughs.

W.: You think you can clean my shit up? I am the master of shit!

    General Petreus enters the room.

Gen. Petreus: Mr. President, we have an issue.

    W. laughs hysterically as he points to a monitor displaying a bomber squadron dropping bombs on Iran.

    W.: Have fun, sucker!

Barry releases W. into a pile of shit, straightens his tie, and walks out with Gen. Petreus. Barry motions to Secret Service who go in and drag out W.

Barry: Use enhanced interrogation techniques to find out what else this motherfucker’s done. It’s not torture, right W.?

Barry unleashes his 10,000 watt smile as he walks away.

    Hope is here.

I don’t see the problem. We just tell Bush that McCain won - it’s not like he really knows what the hell’s going on anyway, right? Now, there might be a little awkwardness on January 20th when Obama steps out of the limo instead, but by then Bush will know there’s a caña chilling for him at the estate in Paraguay, so he’ll probably be eager to forget about it and get going.

  38. JamesMichaelCurley says at 12:00 pm, July 2nd, 2008

scotterl: Somilia was invaded during Operation Rescue Hope on Dec3ember 9, 1992 - by George Herbert Walker Bush under UN resolution 794 authorizing ‘all necessary means to establish as soon as possible a secure environment for humanitarian relief operations in Somalia’ to preserve the position and lives of the UN peace keepers stationed in Somolia since early 1991. Bush, the Elder sent the troops in 31 days before he left office. When Clinton took office, the right started a hue and cry about withdrawing troops. US troops were withdrawn by Clinton on May 4, 1993 only after the US had renegotiated that the command of the UN troops would be under the UN and not the US as Bush had insisted before sending in the troops.

I welcome it. Not out of hatred for Iranians (the average Muhammad Q. Public over there seems likeable enough), but because I would appreciate Dubya’s latest attempt to push the 8-year absurdity envelope.

  40. m_supercomputer says at 12:08 pm, July 2nd, 2008

Advocatus_Diaboli: Aaaand Clinton was inaugurated in January of 1993. So unless you have some special secret math that the rest of us just don’t understand, that means Daddy Bush used his last months in office to launch a new mess for the new guy to clean up. I wish I could be shocked the son’s planning to do the same, only even *more* destructive and fucked up. That’s been pretty much the entirety of the Bush II regime.

rottenart: queeraselvis v 2.0: Well, we can’t bomb Swaziland because the Primate-In-Chief thinks that nation’s king is Patrick Swayze. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, would be a real win-win: on the US-side, it would satisfy (albeit briefly) the Admin’s war lust while having no discernible impact on oil prices; while on the Artist-Formerly-Known-As-Rhodesia front, a massive carpet-bombing campaign is probably the most viable solution to Bobby Mug’s economic ‘downturn.’

  43. WadISay says at 12:14 pm, July 2nd, 2008

What in the hell is going on? I’m spitting mad. The Democratic congressional “leadership” caves on FISA and covert aggression against Iran. Barry goes to the right of the Supremes on the death penalty and the right of Bush on faith based organizations? Which of us is going to have our souls taken over and zombified next by…why yes, I do believe John McCain, an American hero, will show manly resolve against the terrorists of Tehran.

  51. NedPepper says at 1:41 pm, July 2nd, 2008

Accordion-o-rama: We are in the Middle East to prop up the Jews, prior to our complete support of Israel we did business with the Middle East and there was money and oil to be had by all. With our involvement in the political affairs of the Middle East, oil was turned as a weapon against us. It is that simple, if we are going to defend Israel then let us do it or leave them to their own devices. If you want Iran to nuke Israel, then just say it, if you want to support Israel then lets do it. But the price we are paying to straddle the fence with one foot in Israel and one in the rest of the region is not worth the price we are paying now. What would Sy say if N.Y. City vaporized in a nuke fireball and he was still in it?

  52. lumpenprole says at 1:48 pm, July 2nd, 2008

Well, at least approving the money to go ahead with this is sure to keep the Republicans from saying the Democrats are soft-on-terror-surrender-gays. No wait…

  53. Sounds like Sy is pedalling sensationalist shit to me. And, of course, Wonkette is propagating it.

As was mentioned earlier, he *is* talking to Al-Jazeera, one of the great neutral press organizations … not. Just telling them what they want to hear.

  54. Hooray For Anything says at 2:16 pm, July 2nd, 2008

This only confirms my theory that we originally meant to attack Iran but didn’t due to a clerical error by somebody in the White House staff who accidently hit “q” instead of “n” on a report.

And, hey, for those of you who watched Vh-1’s “I Love 2002,” we get to live them again as an ex-CIA official is running around claiming that the CIA purposely ignored all these reports saying that Iran isn’t even close to having the bomb.

  59. Turd Way says at 3:21 pm, July 2nd, 2008

Funny that Hersh, who has more inside information than anyone, still has to make excuses for Bush. The president “uneducatable” about how the operations are going, whether there are WMD in Iraq, if Iran has nuclear capability, etc. It can’t be that Bush/Cheney want to control a increasingly politically powerful part of the world’s biggest oil reserve region.
Bush is just wrong about what will best protect his beloved Americans, maybe clouded in judgement by a misguided love for democracy promotion. Maybe someone like Hersh should remember that “democracy in the Middle East” was the fallback rationale for the Iraq invasion after no WMD were found.
